I was sent this scanner by Xtool, and I am very pleased with its ease of operation, functionality and overall use.
I would not be opposed to suggesting this to anyone that repairs cars as a hobby or profession.
There are a LOT of options out there, you will most likely find the one that best suits your needs.
I hope this helps you make an educated decision on what will work best for you.
Thank you for watching.
I wish you well.

Awesome, that was really useful for me. I have been trying to work out what to get and this clinched it. Seems good value for what it does - and I like the simple clear layout too. Thank you.
Thank you I appreciate that, and yes so far I love this tool. Hardest part about having all these scanners I reviewed is that I dont have the time to use all of them on each car, but so far im impressed with this one. Hope it suits you!
Thanks Lou. Great review. I am a shadetree mechanic who is updating his game with a bidirectional scanner.
You’re my new favorite tech on RUclips. Thanks again man. The main reason I need this is for my 98 Yukon that’s lifted and sitting on 40s on 24s. Re did the entire brake system, and do not feel like having this animal towed to the dealer for an ABS bleed.

That means so so much to me thank you so much for the kind words!! I truly appreciate you.
Awesome video man! Ive been searching for a nice inexpensive scanner for my work. Im gonna give this one a try!

Great video MTL! I use an OBDII version for my car & love it. Cool that they make one for Mercs! Flashlight part is a cool extra.
Thanks man I appreciate that. Yeah its a handy little inexpensive scanner option for diy’ers.
Great video, been watching videos all frigging day trying to find the right tool for me, just started a mobile repair and diagnostic business in Sheffield, England. Your video has helped me decide to buy this tool as I can use it on my phone and tablet, great starter tool for me.

Great review
I'm a newbie. I have been collecting parts, tools, and detail products for my BMW for about a year now. I completely missed that I would need a scanner. I appreciate the review of the A30M as it appears to be a functionally good value.
Very good master
I bought one after trying several other cheaper OBD 2 diagnostic scanners. This one does everything I was looking for. Only drawback is that my cellphone screen is kinda small. I need to buy a table to make using this easier.
Great review.👍
Thanks so much!
From the Amazon ad's I've seen this on, they insist for people to contact them to confirm if the function they need will work on their car; so that's pretty cool that they are ready to answer questions.

Thanks Lou! I've been researching diagnostic tools for over a month. I was looking at $1K tools and up because they can do so much. But after watching your video I decided I just couldn't justify the cost for the higher dollar tools when the XTool A30M does everything I need it to do. It was very confusing trying to separate paid RUclipsrs from the real deal reviews. . and this video helped me make a decision. And at $200 bucks its a no brainer. Thanks so much for all your help and the time you put into making this educational video. It's much appreciated.
I appreciate that man, I struggled myself with deciding on a scanner. I only bought the autel because I help a ton of people online that use them so I needed to be more educated on how they work. Great scanners but this a30m really does a lot

Great quality video. Superimposing the tablet screen made it easy to see what is happening, rather just pointing the camera at the tablet. Stable camera on a tripod also helps saves your viewers from getting nauseous! One suggestion: try using a collar mike for sound if you can, it's hard to hear what you are saying when you are away from the camera.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely do so! I appreciate you reaching out to me. I appreciate the nice comments!
I have a scan tool and for that price, i can only recommend it. You have old app version, by the way, new version looks better, and have few bugs fixed. Tool is simple great, was few times a life saver.
Very informative video, thank you very much!
Please consider improving video quality to 4k.
For filming handheld consider a gimbal.
Good choice for a videoblogers is Sony a6400 - it is reasonably compact, does 4K, got an external mic input and a flip-screen. It can take power from its USB port, by connecting it to a battery bank you can film continuously several hours.
For gimbal good choice is Weebill-S with WiFi transmission module. At the bottom it got a thread for quick connector - after filming handheld you can click whole gimbal on your tripod! Then with your phone set it to track you and camera will follow you as you move about. Basically you get a 'camera crew'.
Thank you. In my current videos I do my best to make sure they are 4k if I can remember.
love your style. When you see a battery voltage of 11.9V you know you will have those low voltage faults especially in the suspension. Sort out your battery first. Cheers.

Does live data chat? If so, can you show multiple charts side by side? 02 w stft, rpm, map?
Can this tool be used to permanently disable the Eco stop/start function on an E350? Thanks for the excellent video!
Another one you can check that's like the Autel mk808 is the Xtool d7 (or d8), and the icarsoft CR Max.. This seems to compare to those, except it just doesn't come with the pad-- and may have just a few less functions.
Thanks, yeah I think autel is sharing their software. They have to be.
2001 Mercedes’ E 430 W210 The software has a spot for the 210 but it doesn’t work communication error I really wish you would work for that vehicle, that vehicle is the reason why I purchased the A30M works great with all of the vehicles past 2002.
You have to use the round port in the engine bay. It might work if you get the adapter from obd2 to the mercedes round connector.
I purchased an A30M for diagnosing a power sliding door issue for a Chevy Uplander 3.9L - the scanner works great on many of the modules in the car, but as luck would have it, it does not communicate with the Power Sliding door module. Very disappointing as I needed the live data to diagnose a latching issue.
I know the Power Sliding Door is communicating fine as it works for the most part and there are no other DTCs to suggest their are communication problems with the module.
Not sure what to do really!

Do you know if this will display the PID of live data being displayed? eg if looking at the transmission temperature can you see the PID to be able to import it to a digital gauge like Torque or ScanGauge?
Hmm thats out of my realm of experience, after a quick google my gut tells me no. But I could be wrong.
Does it tell transmission temperature? How about VIN number of the car?
Er....the dark projectile in the shop that you felt honoured to have there, you didn't get around to mentioning what issue(s) it taxied in for ?
Not reaching its desired altitude?
Thrust reversers not engaging?
Wonderful review. Thanks.
Can you also kindly shed some light on difference between A30M, A30D and A30 Pro?
Based on reading Amazon Q&As here's what I found: A30D comes with 11 special functions, and A30M comes with 21 special functions. A30 Pro just has 16 Special Functions.
So the A30M seems like the most capable unit.
I loved my blue drive obd , until I got the xtools A30 and I love it it fixed my bmw issues it’s the best so far love it

I just wonder about the speed of the A30M on your ipad. is it fast when scan code or take 15 to 30 minute to scan all the module? can you cancel it in middle of scan code if it take too long? did you try on the Android version?
Im doing a speed test video between the scanners I have.

big lou, how does it compare to the autel mx808 bidirectional (entry level) scanner?
As for comparison im not sure, I can say I really am impressed with this A30m. Xtool has some good stuff. I have a D7 Im working on reviewing and explaining.
Just ordered one of these for $175 and picked up a fire hd 8 10th gen for $53. Put the play store on the tablet. Now I got a dedicated tablet for the tool box and a decent scan tool all under $250.
To make it more budget friendly I printed a case for the tablet which only cost about $4 in filament.
I typically use an autel but that one was the shop I used to work for. I was going to buy one myself but it seemed the much cheaper xtool and fire tablet would do.
Quick question, can you "relarn" a battery to say a VW or BMW with this scanner?
Hope you like this tool. Its been good to me so far. I cant say it will do all models but I have been able to reset the battery data in one BMW I did. Can’t remember the model or year. But I think this will do that for you.

Can this run tests on fuel injectors a specific bank? I’m getting a p0174 code on my old 2002 Expedition I’m fixing up, and before I get into throwing parts at it, I want to test out the injectors on that side, followed by the fuel pump pressure. Can this bidirectional scanner perform such tests? Thanks!
If the oem scanner can do fuel injector cut out then I imagine this will. Not sure what kinda test you think can be done with a scanner vs fuel injectors. We usually pull the rail and see if any injectors drip when pressurized. Sometimes the issue can be both sides but the other bank had just yet to throw a code so it’s important to watch the fuel trim data.
Nice video, does it do air conditioners and active tests?
Yes it seems to access all modules.

Great video Lou! Thanks! I’ve watched 5-6 videos on the xtool A30M and every RUclips producer is paranoid about covering up their serial number and activation code. What gives? Could that information actually be used to scam someone?
I believe so, lets say I paid for 1 year of subscription, they might be smart enough to wipe their internal serial number and place mine in there to get my updates. I dont think its that much of a worry with this tool, but when it comes to bigger brands like autel and such, yeah, you dont want to give that information out.

Took a little longer than normal. What I realized is that it cannot distinguish what modules should be in what cars. So it searched for everyone possible. But I think the mercedes was the longest with 85 modules possible as a brand. Not as a model if that makes sense. Might have taken 5’min total? So a tad longer then it should but in all honesty it was still faster then the oem star diagnosis for Mercedes 😂💫
@@MasterTechLou Ok, that's not bad at all. I'm going to order one right now. I was thinking about getting the Autel MP808 or Xtool D8 *but*! since I'm now starting our, I'll get this one...then later one I will uPgrade.
Oh! On the 25th, I'm going to be starting out where you probably went for some of your training - in Alabama. My son's there now, so I'll get to see how they are made.
I'm excited
@@patbaptiste9510 started in Chicago. And hope this works out for you!
@@MasterTechLou Oh...I'm going to Mercedes manufacturing plant in Vance AL. . I hope it works out too...hence the reason I watch all your videos and other videos on Mercedes
Looks like the scanner runs slower than dial up jeeze for 200 cash you would think the thing would run quicker.
you have to understand why it runs so slow
its looking for every available module. where some scanners know what modules should be in the car. it is very good for the money.
Elm327 is only 3$, plus torque is free, or pro is couple$.
thank you for adding that, however those only read the check engine light aka the engine module.
In my line of work, those are not that helpful to most newer car issues.
Those don't have live data or bi-directional control, or any of the special functions.
I bought the A30M, I needed A bi-directional Scanner with the special function of Electric Parking Brake. When I receive it It would not do the job (failure to communicate). My car is a 2015 Subaru Outback. After several communication with Amazon the engineer told it would not work for my car. I took the refund. Whas not impress.
🤨
Sorry to hear, thats the risk you run with any scanner thats not oem. It does have a few glitches ive noticed but so far pretty good for the price.
@@MasterTechLou with moré and moré car coming out with Electric Parking Brake That spécial fonction should be taking care off (software issue)
@@pierregravel910 I agree, but as long as you make them aware of the issue they can hopefully fix it on their end, thats all you can do.
Every scan tool has these types of issues. There is no such thing as a scan tool that does everything on every car
Why not mustibushi
Does it change mileage on vw
no, it will not change mileage that I am aware of.
