I am beginning to work on my own vehicles, and have been searching for a scan tool that can do a lot, but like you say in your video, there are a ton of options. Your detailed review on this particular tool has convinced me to go a head and purchase this module. Thank you so much for your thorough reporting!
Right on Andrew, Thanks for watching, and the good feedback. Try to use the tool on as much as possible, and on many vehicles as possible within the 30 day return policy. Try it out with smartphones, and tablets. Try to print diagnostic reports & live data etc. Also shoot some emails to tech support to see how quickly they respond to your questions, and needs. When it comes to these tools these tools, firmware updates, and tech support are a big part of customer satisfaction. -Chuck
The XTOOL software (app) on your phone seems to work much smoother and easier to use than the comparable AUTEL phone app. This tool also has WAY more functionality with it's bidirectional control and special service functions than the AUTEL. Not to mention, once you own this tool, there is nothing else to pay for for. Ever. Everything is included in the original purchase price of the tool, with free lifetime updates. It's an excellent value. Nice review video.... good job, Sir!
Right on Brian, Thanks for dropping in. The wireless communication during actuator commands sometimes takes two tries to work. This adds a few seconds to each task. I think you mentioned the wired versions of these Xtool machines don't suffer from that issue. But having the capability to work with any smartphone or tablet can be useful. I imagine replacing a cell phone or that cheap $60 Walmart tablet a lot easier, and cheaper than a D7 unit if it's damaged, or gets a broken screen. Thanks for the kind words. -Chuck
Excellent product review!! I will get the additional tablet just like you said. My question is does this show live misfire data counts on each cylinder?
Thank you for the great details about this scanner. They've now dropped significantly in price on Amazon so I'll finally pull the trigger and pick one up. Hoping to fix electrical issues in my '06 LandRover 🤞
Update on A30M and AnyScan: I had to get a new (to me) phone (Windowsphone Veteran, I despise Android phones but, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do), a Galaxy S9. I was playing around with Microsoft's "Your Phone" in Windows 10, and for giggles I launched AnyScan and IT WORKS great. On my laptop, which I prefer, and in landscape mode on the phone it's full screen on the laptop. Just thought I'd let you know.
Right on TC, Thank you so much for the update, and good feedback. Glad it worked out. Do you have any issues, critiques, or any ideas how to improve the A30M? Also, I have an update of my own. I returned the "fancy to me" $140 Samsung tablet, and replaced it with a $34 Refurbished Walmart ONN tablet. I'm much, much hapier with that device since I only need it to run the scan tool. Here's a video of it in action; ruclips.net/video/r_vK3MJ3O_U/видео.html -Chuck
@@PanzerPlatform Good video. I haven't been able to use the scanner very much. The only real problems I have had are mostly Android related issues. When you contact Xtool again, you might mention making a version of the app for the Microsoft Store. That would open up a whole new ballgame. I've learned that any PC or laptop that could run Windows Vista reasonably will run any later version of Windows well, especially Windows 10. Many older laptops can be picked up for a song and max-ing out the memory and buying (or transferring) a license for Windows 10 is not a huge expense. I personally prefer the Fujitsu Lifebooks and Stylistic tablet PCs, especially the Lifebook. Used or off lease. The things were designed for the medical world, surviving a life in an ambulance, hurried nurses and short tempered, over worked doctors, and keep on working where lives depend on them. New, they are prohibitively expensive for the average Joe. Off Lease or used, that's what I like for operations. It seems that every 3 years there are new batches coming Off Lease. I've paid as little as $25 up to $300 (for an as-new T-902, better than anything new at Wally-World, even at 6 years old) with the average being ~$100. Some older ones are stylus and keyboard, and newer ones have touchscreens, too. It's cool to be able to go from tablet to laptop and back in 2 seconds when you're on the go or in the garage. To get off my soapbox, many older laptops and desktops could bring quality budget diagnostic equipment to within the reach of guys like me. Especially if AnyScan were available in the Microsoft Store. And it could keep a lot of devices out of the scrap piles and landfills. But, it's also very nice to have an app that makes that Android tablet actually DO something besides being a glorified E-reader and collecting dust. Take it Easy, Keith
@@tinkerscorner54 Right on Keith, Nice to "meet" you. What you are describing is absolutely great feedback XTOOL would love to hear. Your words will carry more weight than mine on this issue since you are a "paying customer". I urge you to copy & paste your comment in a email to them directly. Here is there email address; xtoolofficial@hotmail.com Having these scan tools to be compatible with a "real laptop" would make so much sense. But there are literally none on the market that I can think of. There has to be a good reason why they are not compatible, and I don't know why. Thanks again for the great feedback. -Chuck
@@tinkerscorner54 I have a reman surface pro 3 I bought years ago at work that I use for service info, reprogramming modules, and to run my pico scope. I love that thing especially with the surface pen. I have the dock setup on a cart with a boom for my scope leads and it’s so nice to just undock and go if I need it to program or use as a factory scan tool like GM’s GDS2 or Ford FJDS. I’ve had it for years and if it ever gives out I’ll definitely be getting another one. I think I paid just over $300 for it and it had a fairly recent i5 at the time I got it that has plenty enough power for its purpose.
@@Jpilgrim30 That sounds like a really sweet setup. With the right software I bet it puts many of the "High Dollar" scanners to shame. If you happen to have one of these X30Ms and a Samsung phone, you can use the Surface Pro with either the "My phone" app or, even faster, the Samsung DeX app that uses the phone usb connection to the tablet/laptop. I don't know how the Surface is set up for usb ports, though. I've got a Fujitsu T903 Fujitsu Lifebook with the i7 and do about the same as you with it. (I had to replace my T730 after it got rained on at my parents house.) I just rotate the screen to tablet mode and go for it. I actually use it more as a tablet PC than a laptop. I bet the Surface Pro is a great deal lighter, though. I've drooled over them several times at Office Depot. (My first Lifebook came from some doctors that switched to the Surface Pro and they love them (Once that they learned that they can't just throw them around like you can a Lifebook.) At first I thought I was going to be stuck using an Android Emulator (All of them suck, and they say they use them for gaming. Really?) but Microsoft and Samsung seem to have teamed up to make an Android phone/tablet quite useable with Windows. Using the DeX app, it can be a pain with the usb cord. I carry my phone on my belt and it's not too bad. It is noticeably faster than using the "My Phone" app, not having to go through the Wi-Fi router. The advantage with the "My Phone" app is freedom from cords altogether. The advantage of either one is that you can take the app to full screen and aren't stuck squinting at a little phone screen. Take Care
I might pick up one of these to keep in the car. I’m a diag tech so I have many scan tools at work. I bought a ThinkDiag scan tool to keep in the car that’s half the price but when you purchase the software it’s more expensive. It’s nice to have a decent scan tool in the car for doing side work at the house and not having to remember to bring one home from work. It would go great with the vantage pro I keep at the house too. The lifetime free updates makes this tool a steal and seeing as how it’s just rebranded Launch software getting updates in the future shouldn’t be a problem.
As a network and mobile secure technician guy, I like how you describe the privacy issue that may occur when you use your own phone for these devices and give a very clear and basic way to get rid of that problem easily. Yes, you can be using your older device with all sim or wifi disconnected, or even use a VPN connection on those devices all the time to secure your data. Especially some VPN providers they can make your data hard to trace within a reasonable price for over 2 years plan. Please admit this is the internet century, stay safe and happy internet surfing. Nice touch for this A30m and I am interested in this car scan tool as it is a good deal with a very powerful function and bi-directional testing is a must for me. One thing I like is it because it is just powerful as the normal D7 unit that many garages use but in a pocket-size of adaptor that you can carry all day.
Thank you for showing the actuation function of this tool, Chuck. Perhaps, it will be useful. You mentioned the odometer overwrite, if you will have time, can you please confirm whether it is possible to do with this tool on our cars?
Right on Andrei, To confirm & verify I need the year, make, model, and VIN of your car. Better yet, how about you send the email yourself to xtoolofficial@hotmail . com To see how fast they respond. Keep in mind the time zone difference. -Chuck

Как отличить А30М от других моделей при покупке в китае? Что работает для проверки чего нет в более дешевых моделях? Или можно отличить по серийному номеру как то, может в программе?
what sold me big time was the free subscriptions for all cars.if you got the thinkdiag and wanted to help friend/family member you had to buy a sunscription for that car manufactuer and only for a year which cost around $40. that for me is a no go.the reality is this would almost never be used on other makes because coughing up $40 just to look at scan data is not logical for most diy and we would diag cheapest way possable.
Right on Boosted, Thanks for watching, and the good feedback. I have never been a fan of any scan tool that requires any kind of ongoing subscription fees after the scan tool is purchased. Of course some repair facilities have to go that way because they need top of the line scan tools with every capability. But for the average DIY subscription fees wether annual, or for additional features are cost prohibitive. -Chuck

Right on Capn' Thanks for dropping in. For $220 this thing is value packed to the brim. It has the functionality, and capability of a $500 Scan Tool. I really like the free lifetime software updates. That means it will not loose manufacturer support, and never become obsolete. -Chuck
Yo JDM, Thanks for stopping in. I haven't tested a D7. But from what I gather the A30M has 95%-99% of the functionality of the D7. But the A30M has free lifetime updates. The D7 only has 3 years free updates. So it's a tough call. Lol -Chuck
I've been eyeballing this little gem here for a little bit, but one thing I've been searching for on it is a camshaft position relearn function, I see it has crankshaft relearn so I could only imagine in one of the functions it has it. Could you give a look through the settings on the darn thing and see if it's present somewhere in it's functions? If not I understand, time is money lol but I can't spend money on something that doesn't have the function I need, I'd rather spend a bit more and get the right tool then half ass it and have to end up buying something twice.
Right on David, Thanks for watching. The special functions are manufacturer, and model dependant. That means if your car brand, (toyota, honda, etc.), and model do not support the function neither will this tool. In order for me to check I would have to hook it up to the same YEAR / MAKE / MODEL as the car you're working on. In order to get a definitive, accurate answer you must email the XTOOL tech support. The good news is they are really, really good with their tech support. Here is the email address; xtoolofficial@hotmail.com - If the A30M does not support Camshaft Position Relearn you will most likely need to step up to the XTOOL D7, D8, or D9. Those start around $500. Check out "brianok100" he's going to have a full review on the D9 this month. -Chuck
I bought a brand new tablet to use with the A30M. I hit "update all" and it took 4 minutes, and used up 9.2GB of internal storage. The $10 prepaid cell phone I'm using was made in 2017, and only has 8GB total memory, with only 4.7GB available, so I don't dare hit the update all button with it. Lol -Chuck

Right on H, Thanks for stopping in, and the kind words. The IP819 uses identical software, and receives the same software updates and it only has 32GB. So I would say 32GB is just fine. I tested the A30M with a $150 Samsung Tablet, and Samsung kept sending forced updates filling up the memory so I returned it, and bought a $38 refurbished Walmart ONN tablet, and it works just as fast as the Samsung. Since I only own Fords, I only download the Ford updates. However, sometimes I fix friends, family, neighbor's cars so I need to download the updates for that brand of car they own, and it just takes a few minutes. -Chuck
Does it suggest a solution to fix the trouble code? Your review, so detailed and to the point, finally prompted me to purchase the Xtool A30M today. Thank you very much.
Right on RLC, Thanks for watching, and the great question. Use the tool as much as you can within the 30-day return policy, if it disappoints you in any way, return it for a full refund. No scan tool will tell you which parts are bad, and need to be replaced. A trouble code is never a reason to replace any part, that's not how OBD2 works. A trouble code is a starting point to begin diagnosis. Any scan tool that suggests a solution is simply guessing. In the industry we call this “parts shotgunning” (replacing parts until the problem goes away). This is not diagnosis. It’s up to the technician / user to interpret the data, and determine the next step in diagnosis. There is a reason automotive repair shops charge $180 - $250 per hour for diagnosis. Right on JSS, That is a great question! This device works on all vehicles 1996, and newer "THAT ARE OBD2 CERTIFIED". Keep in mind "Heavy Duty" with a GVWR of 10,000lbs - 14,000lbs are sometimes exempt from OBD2 compliance because they are considered commercial vehicles. That means they must meet Federal emission guidelines, but they are not required to be “OBD2 certified”. You can look at your underhood label called the VECI (Vehicle Emission Control Label), and it will say if it’s OBD2 certified. If you can be more specific with the YEAR / MAKE / MODEL I can look up on on the XTOOL website for vehicle compatibility. Here is the link to check vehicle compatibility; www.xtooltech.com/EN/FnList.html I just did a quick search, and it looks likes it works up to Ford F650/F750 -Chuck
Right on Toby, Thanks for watching, and the great question. No scan tool will tell you which parts are bad, and need to be replaced. Simply pulling a trouble code is never a reason to replace any part, that's not how OBD2 works. A trouble code is simply a starting point to begin your diagnosis. If you have a misfire and suspect its caused by an ignition coil, swap the coil with another cylinder. If the misfire follows the coil, you most likely identified the faulty coil. -Chuck

Im thinking to just tether my phone to a tablet to give it internet after downloading the XTool app. I may just get the A30Pro. Although the A30M is great, I would need the IMMO special feature for key fobs.
Yo WB, Thanks for stopping by. Currently the least expensive scan tool with key programming is in the $500-$700 price range. Also, some key programming scan tools require an addition hardware purchase around $200-$300. And ALL of these scan tools only come with 2-3 years of free updates. Right on Dan, Thanks for stopping in, and the great question. No, the phone / tablet does not need an internet connection to use the A30M. The only time you need Wi-Fi is to download an update. -Chuck
Right on AutoCAD, Thanks for stopping in, and the great question. In order to give you a good answer I need to address two things. When it comes to “special functions” like the two you mention generally yes, but it’s dependant on wether the manufacturer of your vehicle has programmed these special functions into the vehicle’s PCM. Think of a scan tool as just a window. It allows you to look into your vehicle's PCM. If certain options, or tests, or data PIDs, etc. don't exist in your vehicles computer then you won't be able to see them (or adjust them, or command them, etc) with your scan tool. In order to confirm & verify with 100% certainty you must email XTOOL with the VIN number of your vehicle, and they will be able to check if the A30M, or other XTOOL scan tools have this capability. Here is XTOOL’s email address; xtoolofficial@hotmail.com -Chuck
There is a "big" difference between the A30M and the D7. The A30M is lifetime updates and the D7 is 3 years then you have to pay annually for updates. The D7 is way faster and has 36 Functions vs the A30M which has 21 Functions. It is obvious that the A30M marketing is aimed at the DIY enthusiast. Where as the D7 is aim at the professional mechanic. The A30M does way more than my BlueDriver.
great review. I have noticed a trend amongst these reviews with this particular tool and that is that nobody ever seems to show data graphing. Can you tell me if the XTOOL A30M is capable of that function? if so, are the graphs accurate?

@@fawzisdudah8511 Get the A30M for $190 ; www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KT9XNML You will be much better off in the long run with free lifetime updates. The Thinkdiag is a subscription service that will cost you $40-$80 per year.
Right on Werner, Thanks for watching. I just checked. The A30M still has free lifetime updates. Their stand alone tablet scan tools like the D7, D8, D9 etc. only have 3 years free updates. Where are you seeing they "dumped" free updates? Can you reply with a link so I can confirm? Thanks again, -Chuck
@@PanzerPlatform Interesting. Maybe it depends on location? I did want to order A30M at Aliexpress yesterday from Germany, there it had been offered with lifelong update 2 month ago, i didn't order then, because the price did rise suddenly, now all i can get is 3 year free update with any seller there. Then i tried all other sellers who deliver this A30M to Germany today and it is either only 3 years free, as stated on Aliexpress - or they just write "free update". BUT, beware!, they don't mention "lifelong" any more. And that's a warning sign. Whenever you purchase a chinese product, you never get more than they write in the offer, often enough not even this. So - they offered "lifelong" two month ago at every dealership, they offer "3 years free" or simply "free" today - If i order now, i cannot expect, that this "free" is meant to be lifelong, i could never claim that sucessfully.
@@werner.x Thank you so much for the clarification. That makes sense. Here in USA aliexpress is NOT a reputable retailer. I would suggest ordering from Amazon US or Amazon UK if possible. -Chuck

Professional and to the point.
Right on Brian,
Thanks for dropping in.

Excellent product review!! I will get the additional tablet just like you said. My question is does this show live misfire data counts on each cylinder?

Update on A30M and AnyScan: I had to get a new (to me) phone (Windowsphone Veteran, I despise Android phones but, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do), a Galaxy S9. I was playing around with Microsoft's "Your Phone" in Windows 10, and for giggles I launched AnyScan and IT WORKS great. On my laptop, which I prefer, and in landscape mode on the phone it's full screen on the laptop. Just thought I'd let you know.
Right on TC,
Thank you so much for the update, and good feedback.
Here's a video of it in action; ruclips.net/video/r_vK3MJ3O_U/видео.html

Take it Easy,
Keith

Having these scan tools to be compatible with a "real laptop" would make so much sense.
But there are literally none on the market that I can think of.
There has to be a good reason why they are not compatible, and I don't know why.
Thanks again for the great feedback.

(My first Lifebook came from some doctors that switched to the Surface Pro and they love them (Once that they learned that they can't just throw them around like you can a Lifebook.)
At first I thought I was going to be stuck using an Android Emulator (All of them suck, and they say they use them for gaming.
Right on John,
Thanks for watching.

I've been eyeballing this little gem here for a little bit, but one thing I've been searching for on it is a camshaft position relearn function, I see it has crankshaft relearn so I could only imagine in one of the functions it has it. The special functions are manufacturer, and model dependant.
That means if your car brand, (toyota, honda, etc.), and model do not support the function neither will this tool.

If you are an average DIY, there is no need to download all the updates for every single manufacturer, (ford, checy, dodge, honda, toyota, nissian, mazda, kia, etc).
Since I only own Fords, I only download the Ford updates.
However, sometimes I fix friends, family, neighbor's cars so I need to download the updates for that brand of car they own, and it just takes a few minutes.

Does it suggest a solution to fix the trouble code? Your review, so detailed and to the point, finally prompted me to purchase the Xtool A30M today. Thank you very much.
Right on RLC,
Thanks for watching, and the great question.
This video might help with an introduction to OBD2; ruclips.net/video/p4A_KP0k0hI/видео.html

No scan tool will tell you which part is “bad”. That’s not how OBD2 works.
A Diagnostic Trouble Code alone is NEVER a reason to replace a part, it’s simply a starting point to begin your diagnosis of testing components, wiring, and other associated items in the affected sub-system. Replacing a part, or making a repair based solely on a DTC is simply guessing. Having access to Manufacturer Service Literature goes hand in hand with OBD2 diagnosis. Here’s how to get it for free; ruclips.net/video/cCxHk1PNBuo/видео.html

That is a great question!

If you have a bad ignition coil will the A30M identify and tell you exactly which one. Thank you.
Right on Toby,
Thanks for watching, and the great question.

Would be nice if its still useable if you are out on the street with no internet connection
Right on Dan,
Thanks for stopping in, and the great question.
No, the phone / tablet does not need an internet connection to use the A30M.
The only time you need Wi-Fi is to download an update.
-Chuck
Does it read the Clutch Volume Index and the trans re-learn?
Right on AutoCAD,
Thanks for stopping in, and the great question.
In order to confirm & verify with 100% certainty you must email XTOOL with the VIN number of your vehicle, and they will be able to check if the A30M, or other XTOOL scan tools have this capability. Here is XTOOL’s email address;
xtoolofficial@hotmail.com

There is a "big" difference between the A30M and the D7. The A30M is lifetime updates and the D7 is 3 years then you have to pay annually for updates. The D7 is way faster and has 36 Functions vs the A30M which has 21 Functions. It is obvious that the A30M marketing is aimed at the DIY enthusiast. Where as the D7 is aim at the professional mechanic. The A30M does way more than my BlueDriver.
Right on John,
Thanks for stopping in.
Have you seen the new IP819?
I just reviewed it Sunday;
ruclips.net/video/WglUhlMIs8k/видео.html
-Chuck
great review. I have noticed a trend amongst these reviews with this particular tool and that is that nobody ever seems to show data graphing. Can you tell me if the XTOOL A30M is capable of that function? if so, are the graphs accurate?
Right on Sean,
Thanks for stopping in.
Yes, it can perform rudimentary data graphing.
But it's not ideal on a tiny cell phone screen.
I beleive XTOOL puts their best data graphing on their higher end scan tools like the D7, D8, D9 etc.

@@PanzerPlatform thanks for the quick reply. I ended up buying it and a generic android tablet to run the software. This video helped convince me that it is good value for the money. This video also reminded me of how much I miss my panthers. I had a 98 P71 which I replaced with an 01 Grand Marquis LS. When I get back stateside, I'll have to complete the package with a town car. Anyways, thanks again for the info and keep up the great work.

The both run the A30M just as fast, and snappy.

Hey this Xtool Brand is Looking like a Winner for Me. I've been researching a all round one to buy. And out of all this A30 line of scanners seem like the best bargain for Me. But they have A30M, A30C and A30D. Please do you know the Difference Between them?
Right on Nedu,
Thanks for watching, and the great question.
A30 ($130) 5 Service Resets
A30D ($160) 11 Service Resets
A30M ($220) 21 Service Resets
The A30 series of scan tools are all using the same hardware & software.
The difference in model, and price is how many service resets you will have access to.
For the basic DIY the A30 for $130 is very capable, and powerful because it has the same full Bi-Directional control as the higher model A30M.
However, for a technician working in industry he may need access to all the 21 service resets for all the cars that may come through the door.
Let me know if you need more help.
-Chuck
@@PanzerPlatform that's really helpful, thanks. By service resets, do you mean it can reset a fault code, or tell the car computer to record that a service item has been done?
@@The_Macaroon
Right on Macaroon,
Thanks for watching.
The service resets are things like resetting maintenance lights like oil change, or similar.

Can this tool do dpf regeneration?

Im planing to buy one but wanna know if it is capable of disable injector to test for misfiring cylinders ???
Can it show live data whitout lags like MAF and Trotlebody Pos etc ??? has too litle info about these functions ...
I have a Grand Cherokee 2000 that turns but wont start and i have to check why , maybe a sensor or a burn pcm mosfet anyway I need a good one to work with
Yo Dark,
Thanks for stopping in.
If you are concerned about lag, or latency do not buy the A30M, or any wireless scan tool, (Bluetooth & Wi-Fi). You will be much better off with a hardwired connection. I tested this with the A30M vs. the all new XTOOL IP819. Here is my IP819 review; ruclips.net/video/WglUhlMIs8k/видео.html
As far as specific vehicle functions;
If the manufacturer of your vehicle (Jeep) programmed the capability into the PCM, any Bi-Directional scan tool should be able to send commands to actuate / enable / disable, etc.
The only way to find out if the tool has the capability of your specific need is you must email your VIN Number to XTOOL customer service / tech support. They will answer your question in 24 hours. Here is the their email address; xtoolofficial@hotmail.com

I'm in two minds whether to buy A30M or Thinkdiag. The difference in price is 30% of the price of the cheaper of the two. If A30 doesn't support injector actuation, then I'll buy Thinkdiag, missing the free updates of Xtool.

They dumped the lifetime upgrades. Just 3 years now.
Right on Werner,
Thanks for watching.
I just checked.
The A30M still has free lifetime updates.
Their stand alone tablet scan tools like the D7, D8, D9 etc. only have 3 years free updates.
Where are you seeing they "dumped" free updates?
Can you reply with a link so I can confirm?
Thanks again,
-Chuck
@@werner.x
Thank you so much for the clarification. That makes sense. Here in USA aliexpress is NOT a reputable retailer.
I would suggest ordering from Amazon US or Amazon UK if possible.

Right off the bat the;
M is $220
Pro is $330
Pro comes with 4” tablet / control interface.
M you’ll have to supply your own smartphone, or tablet, I’m currently using mine with a $40 7” Walmart tablet, and it works just as fast as the Samsung I tested here; ruclips.net/video/anQMGMOaTU4/видео.html
