My band was Quincy. We were managed by Hilly Krystal and played there many times. We were on the bill with XTC, The Plasmatics, Richard Lloyd as well as headlining. We made a single on CBGB Records called "Can't Live In A Dream". It was a very cool scene.
Sounds like you had it going on pretty good, @geraldmixer. XTC is big name band. Richard Lloyd was possibly the worst act I saw a CB's. Totally out of it, probably on junk, barely paying attention and getting booed. Hopefully he played much better on your bill.
Tnx Dennis, seeing these videos make me sad about time passed but also profoundly happy that I was alive to experience them. I do not think there has been as powerful a "revolution" as punk so far in my lifetime.
I just found these two videos about CBGB's and it really brought back a lot of memories. I grew up in the NYC punk and hardcore scenes and went to CB's a lot. My first ever show there was Social Distortion in 1992. Through my time there I saw great bands like Avail, Sick Of It All, Madball, The Casualties, Murphy's Law, Agnostic Front, One Way System, Warzone, and many others. I was at the first night of the Raybeez benefit shows there and I still remember the moment I found out he had passed. Really sad. RIP Raybees.
Well done, and not exaggerated or made to be mystical when it wasn't. CBGB was the first big gig for a lot of bands, and a mandatory stop later on for bigger names. From a tiny dirty dive came much of the music we grew up to and love to this day. Damn shame nothing was done to preserve it.
As an old CBGB Groupie in the late 1970s who went 4 years in a row and met hundreds of Brand even guided the guitarists to play a KIZZ rythem yes that was me Eve sort for Everlyn
@@rocdocs Sure do Blondie handed me her lipstick in the bathroon down stairs after her quitarist un expectectly grabbed me tight and french kissed me as I push him as hard as I could away I didnt know them.. Lol that was way before they were known and they were poor with a broken head light in a beat up old car... Also Dee Dee Ramone took me home in a Taxie once after running into him at Maxes Kansas City late one night by the time we got to Brooklyn it was day light then he climbed up to the secound floor front of the building with shoes on because I lost my key...There are many more expreriences with other well kniw band members through out the years too much to get into..
I watched this awhile ago but forgot to comment. This was great! I love most of the bands you talked about and learning more about them was nice. Thanks, dennis!!!

Me and my cousin Darren in the 80s used to go see bad brains a few times wow you're bringing back memories bro lol Wendy O Williams boy she was something else back in the days LOL I got to see her live once
Great vid, subscribed. Would love to see anything you might have on the DKs. If the Clash was my punk gateway drug the DKs were my political outlet. I was in Boston in the late 70s and early 80s and the Rat and the Channel were the places to be. Unfortunately never saw the clash, but saw the DKs in 1980.
The Cro-Mags DID NOT play the Raybeez benefit shows and those benefit shows took place in October of ‘97, not May. Not sure where you got your information.
Mark thanks for watching and for your comment. Articles about the Cro-Mags were the source. It was really hard to find info on them actually- I almost gave up but a lot of people wanted them mentioned. If I remember right, there were two main articles that seemed solid, and a lot of more dubious short bits here and there. Wikipedia, as well. One article was from right after the reunion show and it was pretty detailed. As for the Raybeez benefit shows, I take your word for it. There was a lot of contradictory information on it actually but I think multiple sources put them there (probably quoting each other- it became a repeated part of their 'story' in a few places, true or not). Have a good one.
@@rocdocsThere were three benefit shows for Raybeez, two at CBGB's and one in Tompkins Square Park. I know the Cro-Mags were not at the first CBGB's show or the TSP show as I was at both.

Very cool- thank you for sharing Gerald! I will look for that 45!

I went to the CBGBs building recently. They kept a bit of the grunge and feel of the original. Loved it
Really? Isn’t it a clothing shop now? What was it like?

Kick ass Eve! You must have some stories!

Lucky I got to go to CBGB a couple times in the 90s. Sad that whole area has lost its character.
