"Expert Judges" 🤡 | Kingdom: Legendary War Episode 5 | Psynergic Reacts
The women have had their time to shine in “Queendom,” and now it’s the guys’ turn!
After some of them were forced to compete in a grueling, televised qualification contest, only six all-male K-pop groups have been left standing - and now BTOB, iKON, SF9, THE BOYZ, Stray Kids, and ATEEZ must pit their talent and wits against one another in a final, decisive contest.
It’s reckoning time: Only one group can emerge as the “kings” of the K-pop ring as all six must go head-to-head in a number of tricky challenges, as well as some possible surprise collaborations!
The action begins with a thrilling 100-second performance of one of their best-loved hits, and after that the challenges will start coming thick and fast, getting trickier and trickier.
The groups will have to vote on one another’s performances, and there are also a few surprise musical cameos in store.
But when push comes to shove, only one group will be able to walk away as champions. Veteran K-pop star Changmin of TVXQ is the host.
“Kingdom: Legendary War” is a 2021 music and variety show that was produced by Jo Wook Hyung.

when this aired LIVE stays everywhere were so upset how they used innie as a plot of drama we voted SO HARD for this round to show skz how much this performance meant to us and you could definitely feel the pained feeling in the fandom at the especially with hyunjin gone it was like we were voting to show them that they're doing well

That was literally one of the best performances Stray kids have ever done and the vocals were out of this world…
The results were just so stupid. That’s not to say that the other groups did bad, but honestly in my opinion SKZ were still in the top 3 at least.
And for Mnet to just capitalize on stuffing that camera in I.N’s crying face when he obviously just wanted to be left alone and even more so to record that conversation between I.N and Chan when they CLEARLY went away from the cameras to not be seen… That’s just plain disgusting to be honest. I get that it’s a reality show of sorts but there still need to be some sort of boundaries. Idols are denied their privacy often enough as it is
I love this episode because everyone did exceptionally well with their performances; creativity and songs chosen. However, I did think that Stray kids' take on the song (vocally, not performance) was the closest to the original and I always thought that that may be why they scored the way they did.
@@lucyyloui agree but I also think that they and BtoB were the only groups that really stepped out of their comfort zone and went another direction from previous performances.
To answer your question about where changsub (Jean jacket) was, he was actually sick during this performance so he was only there for the performance of back door and resting during the other performances. It’s also why he won’t be in some of/ part of the next eps, he was still recovering. I think from what I heard at the time he doing kingdom whilst also being part of a stage play or musical, so he was over worked. The fact that he could perform at this level whilst being unwell and people didn’t even realise from the performance is impressive. I didn’t know he was sick when the ep aired but had a feeling that he was just by his movements and mannerisms before they went on stage (I get sick a lot so I recognised the signs).
I literally cry everytime I see I.N crying in this episode. We can really see how pressure gets to him and how he begins to second-guess his ability because of it. Its really upsetting to see, especially when we love him so much :(

Thank you for loving BTOB performance 💙🙏🏼 Changsub was sick when he performed this song, and need to go to hospital after that. That’s way next episode he not there for the sport day

Actually, Changsub was sick thats why he wasnt with BTOB whole time. He performed, but probably went lay down and rest after. About the results, I think judges didnt appreciate vocal performances and so others who were more flashy they got better score.
Jerks🥲😭I also was craying on that part with IN he was so hard on himself and Chans way of calming him😢 and I think Changbin or Seungmin in 2kids room mentioned that they found IN in the kitchen crying by himself thinking that they will fail because of him🥺
Honestly the entire show was so stressful for all of the groups even though it did get them more exposure, I would never hope for any of them to go through something like this again. At least these groups became closer to each other but kingdom was hell for the fandoms with all the hate and fan wars just because of the way the show evil edited them and the poor managing. I glad we got these performances though and that it’s over. It was painful as an atiny and I know ateez doesn’t like to remember that period when they were juggling so many things without Mingi as well during kingdom
That's why I'm happy I keep out of blue bird Island, like I don't understand thse (fake) fans...like can't they see while they're hating the Fandom of your favourites and support theirs (allegedly) those 2 already made an appointment to grab Soju together if possible whenever both of them are shedule less and around in town...?
this reminds me of how changbin said in 2 kids room that after this performance (probably when they were watching the episode tgt) in the livingroom jeongin was crying alone in the kitchen so they all rushed to him to comfort him and he kept blaming himself 😢
the "expert judges" needed some fuel for drama imo, so people would engage more in the show like maybe expecting some fights between them to catch or simply wants fans to interact more and vote and shit but man this was beyond unfair

I couldn't tell which of the two he was asking about until Psynergetic said he was waiting for him to say something so he could see the name, and then I knew he was asking about Yeosang. 😅
I completely disagreed with the expert judging on this round. Ateez did an amazing job and they deserved their spot. Stray Kids deserved so much better from the experts, though. The complexity of the song and the story line alone should have placed them at least in 3rd. I was so pissed the first time seeing that ranking.
Ateez had a comeback at the same time yet still gave 1000 percent. They devoured Rhythm Ta. The judges were really impressed with them and they deserved the high ranks.
But then fall into the bottom rank because of the fan votes ☺ no matter how high their rank when it comes to expert judge and other group themselves, they keep fall because the lack of fan votes and other fandom avoid to vote for their high rank despite their amazing performance.

skz did so so well, their performance was amazing, 6th position by EXPERTS makes no sense at all.
also, i have watched that performance more that 15 times and i cry each time ;;
all of them did great, of course, but... idk, that ranking feels weird
We do know now who was on the industry panel. There were well-known producers, choreographers, and sunbaenims, as well as some members of new groups (probably because youth often know about current trends).
I don't think there was any conspiracy on the panel to make the show more interesting by voting to create controversy, nor do I think the groups prioritized self interest when they were voting. I think most of the panel were looking for how the groups worked with the theme (re-born) and how creative and artistic the performance was. Groups who re-made their song ranked well with the panel, while The Boyz probably ranked well for their incorporation of the tango. The panel probably expected 3racha to create a very different version of the I'll Be Your Man rather than perform it similarly to the original. There was an incredible amount of meaning to SKZ's version, but I think it went over their heads. (Stay totally understood.) It may not have fit the panel's expectations, but will always be an excellent example of the range of their talent.
It's also important to remember the groups weren't ranking the performances. They were selecting the three they thought were the best. Order wasn't factored in. This system has it's flaws, one of which is that a performance that would be ranked fourth by all the groups gets less points than a performance that would have been ranked 3rd by one competitor and last by everyone else (former gets 0, latter gets 1 share of the total points for the round).
Nah the “expert judges” were straight up BS! They had people like f Shindong from Super Junior judge Bobby’s rapping? Nah get outta here. The expert judges were not experts at all! Over half of them were FAR from it. Money just had them to add more drama to the show as always.

@@YourGirlKross The 33 guest judges during round 3 are not the same as the "expert judges" during the other rounds. Totally different people. Though it is interesting to note that the "expert judges" included only one person whose expertise was vocals, and the vocal-heavy performances kept getting low scores (like BtoB and Skz in this round).
Ateez always has the highest rank when it come to expert judge but then they will fall into the bottom rank when it add into fandom votes because their fandom is small and despite how they never dissapoint any performances, many people avoid to vote for them because they already on highest rank 😄 it made me really frustation tbh but I'm glad kingdom is over, even atz themselves say it too. Hongjoong said kingdom is fun but it made them anxious and tired by the ranking rules, he don't want to repeat that time again ☺ he must be frustrated too about how they keep fall into the bottom rank no matter how hard they work for the expert judge because the lack of fandom.
But one of the expert judge then coming into their concert after kingdom show, and keep show his positive support to ATEEZ even until now. That's how ATEEZ made their progress for fandom growth. It always slow, but steady. They coming from small company and lack of exposure. They never coming as one big hit, but when u go deeper for them, u will don't have any turnback.
True this... Even people who doesn't want to acknowledge Ateez achievement can't really ignore their talent. They literally proved themselves in that show like who they are to the industry. I really doubt Ateez had a thought of winning though they are competitive. It seems from the beginning their aim was so clear and it's all about exposure and proving them. They are the best in the show. And also after kingdom something greatly shifted in Ateez mindset. We could see their confidence in performance and they just started to ignore industry validation anymore and past 2 years they literally seem not to care much about the industry like "You are not going to show us to the world So we decided to show you the world". They just so focused on music and fans which is really benefiting them than all this stress and dramas. Only 2 good things happened from Kingdom we got all good interaction with other idols and We got Ateez being self aware of their talent and position in industry which they literally turned positive in concert performances later. I really hate that kingdom phase tbh 😭
@@KamaliYuyuThree--we've gotten a lot of new Atiny from those performances, not just during the time it was broadcast. Even now, people stumble across those performances and realize ATEEZ is something special. I rewatched their Kingdom performance of The Real yesterday. There was a recent comment by someone who had watched DKB's cover of The Real on Peaktime. They didn't know anything about ATEEZ, but wanted to see the original. It was one of those where have I been/I didn't know how much I was missing comments. 😊

I said this under the comment of the previous upload but I actually agreed with the judges ranking, for generally the whole show my personal rankings for the performances were the same the expert judges, I think all the groups did great and it’s always sad for whichever group to be at the bottom of the rank but I definitely think it was a fair assessment, it was a BTOB song which is a very vocal heavy group so skz did their best but they have 2 official vocals and other members who can sing but aren’t the vocalists of the group so it kinda put them out of their element in a way but they still did really well. Just wanted to re-comment this bc the judging to me was the only fair thing about kingdom legendary war bc the treatment of the groups wasn’t in aspects as well as the whole fan voting system turned a portion of the show into a popularity contest which put groups like sf9 at a disadvantage
When I was watching this show when it was airing I wasn’t particularly a stan to any group I just knew ateez and skz really well and knew certain members of ikon and btob so I think in that aspect as well I was able to look at the performances more subjectively and rank them as a watcher rather than a particular Stan of any group
I personaly think they put Skz last because it was dedicated to Hyunjin. They put his ring on the statue and it was about how they would sacrifice everything for him to be there with them (he wasn’t because of the bullying controvercy) They weren’t alowed to talk about him and did it in a sneaky way. I think they punished them and blamed I.N

I was absolutely shocked about stray kids ranking .. they defiantly deserved to be higher! although i do think ateez deserved first place and SF9 second but i genuinely thought stray kids would be at least top 3 .. shocking honestly????

Nothing bad happen to BTOB, there are only 3 of them bcs changsub was really sick, he is overwork at that time, to the point that he even go to the hospital after the performance...
Changsub missed most part due to his musical schedule or illness. Cube never did official announcement for that.
I’m trying to remember…but I think that a Changsub was also doing a musical or rehearsals or something, during kingdom, which is why he wasn’t always there.
He was sick at one point.

At that time he is really sick, usy with musicals and kingdom too taking a toll in his body, you can see during interview he look out of place...he was not there bcs he was sick and even go to the hospital..nothing bad happened to their relationship, they are literally family now..
In other live show they explain abt this, minhyuk even said he almost cry when he listen to changsub singing so well despite his condition..they all listening to him carefully with in-ear and all happy changsub did so well...

I think the expert judges looked for who best fit the re-born theme and Skz didn’t quite make it their own even though the covered it well.
Also generally groups that had a very clear, easy to follow story did better with the judges than groups with harder to understand.
The self ranking-if I was in charge would have been every group ranks the other 5 1 to 5 then points assigned to each spot.
Tbh, I thought Tbz's performance had the most confusing storyline, especially with the technical issues clouding some important plot points. I can understand the judges not getting every detail of Skz's storyline, but the basic story was clear. Q certainly understood it just fine 😂 (as did I watching it for the first time when I wasn't even a kpop fan at the time).
I think part of the issue was odd expectations. Some of the judges said they expected Skz to make a rap-heavy version of the song, while Skz wanted to show people who ignored their vocal-heavy songs that they also have vocals.
It's interesting you mention not fitting the "re-born" theme, when Skz's storyline for the performance was literally to have the little boy be "re-born", so they fit the theme not just in terms of a cover in their style, but in terms of story. But everyone has their own opinions...
Edited to add: and BtoB had a very clear storyline and they remade Back Door into a very different, rocky version. So their low scores are also a mystery to me. Unless weird judge expectations were at play again, and they wanted a ballad version?

I will be honest about this round-I felt like Skz’s cover was too much a straight cover. Where other groups took the song and remade it into their own (I think iKon actually met the mission better than anyone else).
I also think this round had the problem that everyone did really well. This left the judges using small differences to choose the winner.
I just know straykids won this round and stays did so well giving SKZ the rank they deserve

As someone mentioned, Changsub was sick, actually he was in a musical too if I'm not mistaken the date.
BTOB Changsub was sick that day, so he just showed for some interview and the performances, and after that was absent for two weeks.
Whatever you do, especially with your reaction to Minhyuk, don't go watch his solo song Boom. You will continue to be concerned for his health. LOL (No really go watch, Boom by HUTA/Minhyuk.)
Also, it's been speculated that the boy in the SKZ performance represented Hyunjin and that the SKZ would do whatever it took to get him back. They'd already been through one leaving. They were determined not to lose Hyunjin. Also, the statue of the boy was wearing Hyunjin's ring that the guys made around its neck. They made 8 rings. I also think this is why the judges scored them lower. They knew the reference and at the time, it was very controversial topic.

Also I agree that the boyz performance was my least favorite this week as well I would keep the same top 3 from the show and then have skz 4 th (personally) then ikon and then the boyz (the performance was very nice but not particularly my favorite from them)

I just finished Kingdom a few weeks ago, so I'm loving your analysis! The "expert" judging really baffled me too, especially since we hadn't even met those experts yet so I didn't understand why that was even a component of the scoring at all. I tried to check my skz bias too, but even then I still think Stray Kids and BTOB had the best performances. Ateez was very entertaining and definitely nailed it, but it was still pretty much exactly what I'd expect from them. Out of all the groups SKZ and BTOB both had the best combo of adding their own flavor to the original while also challenging themselves to step out of their comfort zone. Turning a melancholy romantic ballad into an epic tale of sacrificing your soul for someone you love is sooooo Stray Kids, yet the thing that really establishes the original as a memorable is the intricate vocals, which Stray Kids decided to tackle head-on despite it being way out of their range and usual skill level. Come on, Han alone deserved first for busting out those power notes so perfectly while dancing his ass off for half the song and also throwing in some killer rap lines. Honestly the scoring and judging for this whole series was confusing. But at least it was my intro to BTOB and Ateez, so it's got that going for it, which is nice.

I really agreed with the ranking of the judges, the concept was "reborn" the top 3 practically made another song, they changed its vibe, everything, they made it their own, skz although they were spectacular, the theme of the performance and the vocals were very good (I didn't even realize that I.N had made mistakes because of how well it sounded), but the song seemed more like a cover than a "remake or reborn", of course we all have different opinions and preferences and it was very difficult to choose rankings as a viewer since they all made it really great
