  • This is the first part telling us about the Easter Rebellion of 1916 which is often eclipsed by the Great War. Over six days, Dublin was gripped by a rebellion that tore the city apart and left causalities on both sides. But this powerful film does much to remind us of the significance and sacrifice of the soldiers who fought in a place many called home.

Both of my grandparents fought in the GPO, my grandmother was in the cumnah mah (sorry my irish spelling is horrible).
My grandfather was named William Liam McGinley, and when they had the hundred year anniversary in 2016 his name was on the wall as being one of the fighters and I was able to push my mom his daughter in a wheelchair in the parade through Dublin. I am extremely proud of my Irish heritage, and I like to see documentaries like this that are not English propaganda.

My great great grandparents fled from Ireland to Manchester during the rebellion. They were O’Connors but changed their name to Connor to try to hide that they were Irish. My paternal grandmother was a Connor before she was married, my little brother was named Connor after her family and also to incorporate a tradition from my mothers side, my oldest maternal uncle has my maternal grandmother’s maiden name of Donald as his first name, so it took something from both my grandmothers.
