    I started with the GFX system last summer (GFX50S II) with the intention of using that body and GF lenses for a long-term project. I had the 32-64mm but I knew I needed a wider lens. The 20-35mm was promised, but not in time for the next trip. I bought a used 23mm and found it to be an amazing lens -- but there were times when I just needed a little more "wide". When this lens was available for purchase I made the long drive to the camera store, the 23mm going on consignment and me driving home with the 20-35mm.
    I'm very pleased with it. The 23mm has better native optical characteristics, but the ability to zoom and go wider makes the 20-35mm the winner for me. It pairs nicely with the 32-64mm (a little bit of zoom overlap is a good thing when you're walking about), and it also pairs well with my 45-100 (I can work with the 35mm to 45mm "gap"). For studio and tripod work (more technical or more controlled), some might find the 23mm a better option. The three lenses I have all use the same ergonomics, so lens function and muscle memory are compatible.

    Thanks for the review it's a lens that I'm looking at for my camera that I purchased soon I'm going into the gfx line for my landscape photography I've done really well with the Fujifilm xt5 but it is time to expand and this focal length is often a focal length I used for Majestic Australian landscapes and having that zoom range is just perfect

    I would be really interested in a video about your post processing. You seem to be doing subtle modifications which I like, but you do make photos "pop out" nicely.

    Thanks for sharing your views! I have been really interested in this lens, though I have the 23mm currently (which I would then trade in). I feel this lens better complements the 45 - 100mm f4 zoom, and would give a more versatile setup. Maybe somewhere in the future when the first discounts are offered 😚.

    Thanks for the review Dylan. This lens is definitely in my wish list, but I'll wait for Fuji's April announcements 'cause I want to see what happens with the GF 55mm 1.7 and the TS GF lenses.

      Oh yes! The 55mm f1.7 seems really interesting, love the 40-ish mm focal range. Just hope they put linear motors in, and not the coffee grinder motors of 80mm f1.7.

    Hi Dylan, thanks for sharing the test and nice images. I have a question, have you used GF 30mm F3.5 yet , and your opinions on this lense to compare with the GF 23mm and GF 20-35mm ? From your enviroment portrait style and opinions, which GF lenses GF 23mm F4, GF 20-35mmand GF 30mm F3.5 and GF 32-64mm F4 which one is your first choice ?

      If wide and only wide is your thing, for sure! It's been in the back of my mind ever since testing it. I miss having a wide focal length like this.

    Excellent review Dylan. I so want to buy this lens. Only hesitation is the distortion. Not sure what’s going on at 6:09. The buildings look a bit angled. Any thoughts?

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer
      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  Год назад

      20mm happened. Ultra wide is always going to be pulling things in from the side. That's not fault with the lens, but where I placed things in the frame. #mybad

    There are bargains to $300 to consider, the Nikkor 28m f/3,5 tilt and the Zuiko 35mm f/2.8 tilt. Both of them will cover the GFX if you don't use the tilt funksjon in the lens.

    I heard that the light gathering of FStop is the same as in full frame. It gives you a bit more shallow depth of field but amount of light is the same or equivalent number. Is that true? And do you know from the top of your head F4 it's 20 mm would be equivalent to what in full frame and then in super 35 like XT5?

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer
      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  10 месяцев назад +1

      You heard right. Light gathering remains the same across formats. However, depth of field will vary with sensor size. Look up equivalence converters to be able to move between the different formats comparably if that's important to you. That way, you'll be able to convert for all lenses and apertures that you are interested in.

      Dylan, please don’t change! Your videos are some of the most enjoyable out there in the photography circus. I always watch them first when they pop up in my feed. Thanks for posting more regularly again, much appreciated. 😊
