I’m a 57 year old vocalist and have watched a ton of reviews on Billie Eilish, yours is the best. Explaining correct technique yet accepting her own style. I absolutely love Billie and her brother Finneas! Hard for the youngsters to impress this ole bulldog. But I am a total super fan. And love you reactions and knowledge! Keep up the great work everyone!!
I've watched a bunch of 'vocal coaches react' vids now and so far yours has the most substance to it - instead of just sitting back and going 'wowsogood' you actually talk about how she's doing those things with her voice and how you might learn to do them as well. The technical breakdown you have here is great and a lot of other coaches don't have it!
The man behind that wonderful Orchestra is none other than HANS ZIMMER, one of the most important film composers of our generation - I'm glad everyone's latching onto his work with his collaboration with Billie :D most people know him as the guy who did Pirates of the Carribean, he also for Inception came up with that dramatic/epic/symphonic "BRRRUUUMMMM" sound you see in almost every intense movie trailer now too (which he pokes fun at in interviews lol)
I was born in 81, and I'm not moved by many artists of today, Billie is an exception. I'm a 90's kid at heart and love bands like The Cranberries, Whooty, Sarah McLachlan, Shererl Crow, etc. But Billie's voice just moves me, just love the way she sings.
I’m not generally big on pop singers, especially in this auto tune era (yes, I’m old), but I really like her singing (and even several of her songs). And, hey - no auto tune!
I've been obsessed with this song ince it came out and you've helped me understand what makes it work. The cotrol she has on her voice that timeless feeling and the tension she creates are amazing. She gives me Beth Gibbons feels with this song.
I really enjoy Billie's singing, and her music in general, because she uses subtlety of nuance and silence in her music. As you said, she draws you in and captivates. Very little pop music utilizes the lower dynamic range, and since she requires no auto tune, all those micro-shadings are there.
Absolutely superb analysis. Your clear descriptions and explanations of seemingly 'intangible' and potentially subjective concepts of emotion and connection are a breath of fresh air. Thanks Beth!
You always explain the techniques and details so well. Plus you're v passionate when you describe and pull all kinds of interesting info. Great comments and review!
Ok, I am subscribing. This video was a revelation. I had written her off as just another singer, but hearing you describe what she was doing, I realize she is quite good, and talented. And this does sound like a Bond song. I also realized that Beth Roars seems quite knowledgeable.
Excellent reaction, fair and on the point. I also enjoy all those nuances, which make all the difference. Don't know any other contemporary singer, that has that in her arsenal.
I have watched every vocal coach critic review of No time to die and yours is the best. No only do I agree with you but your own vocalizations of Billie's voice are also amazing! Your pitch is beyond ordinary. Your review is real and so are you. Hanging up on my mind's wall, The memory of this is the frame that hurts me most My pain is to realize that despite all we have done We are still the same as before and live... We are still the same and live as lived our parents Our idols are still the same And the appearances don't disguise it at all You say that after them, no new idols have ever existed You may even say that I'm out-of-date, that I made up all this But it's you the one who loves the past and can't see that new times will always come

Really liked the clarity in breaking down this theme song. I now appreciate more the nuances in the singing. However, as a lifetime Bond fan, I would have preferred to hear more power. I felt it held back when it needed to soar. Alll the great Bond songs had emotional range, this one stays rooted in grief but never really expresses the Bond character for rage. I have the same comment for many of the recent Bond movies. I feel they are using young pop artists to attract a new generation of fans. All part of the evolution of the Bond character or losing its identity - hard to say. Perhaps Bond is killed off in this film and then the theme song will be a swan song and then it will all make sense!
Sean Rafter Yeah. Judging by the title of the song and movie, it sounds like Bond will be given something that is irrepressible. But he completes his last mission while dying a little the whole time.
Would love to see a reaction to Paul McCartney, especially in a song like "Oh! Darling", or "Monkberry Moon Delight", or maybe even, the polemic "Helter Skelter".

You're the first person who echoes my thoughts! I thought of Billie Holiday singing "Strange Fruit" the first time I heard Billie Eilish do one of those low, exaggerated vibratos. I wonder how much classic Billie has had an influence on young Billie. I know her and Finneas have talked about jazz influences.
This song, Adele's 'Skyfall' and Sam Smith's 'Writing's on the Wall' have managed to capture the classic Bond theme vibe of the 60s to a T. Hello, Beth. I respectfully request a reaction to one song written by the great late Mexican songwriter and singer JUAN GABRIEL, but, sung by ANA GABRIEL who took Gabriel as part of her stage name out of admiration for Juan Gabriel. A few voice teachers have reacted to her singing this song but I would love to hear yours. The emotion poured by Ana in this performance is soul shaking and I know you will love her unusual but beautiful voice. Thank you for your time and attention to this request.
Isn't this song in the same key as Writings on the Wall by Sam Smith (for that classic Bond progression of 5, 5#, 6, 5#) but also in the same sort of vocal range? Continuation of a theme I think.
Would it be possible to hear your take on the song with you singing please. Also have you heard the song 25 by the reckless that sounds like a bond theme or should have been

Now people can't call her a whisper singer.
They are still calling her that, you can't prove anything to morons
check out YUNGBLUD - Hope for the underrated youth (Live Orchestral Version)
Isn't this song in the same key as Writings on the Wall by Sam Smith (for that classic Bond progression of 5, 5#, 6, 5#) but also in the same sort of vocal range? Continuation of a theme I think.
I like to listen to you. I like to comment on your fresh way with know how. Have you ever talked about "Puddles Pity Party"?
An exceptional voice!
