I doubt the average copper would've cared back then either outside of a tv show, unlike dogs there's still no legal obligation to report a cat's untimely death.

It's interesting that rooming houses are not really a thing anymore and someone of Mrs Beale's age would not be living in private rented accommodation but in sheltered housing or a council flat. Rooms like this may have been grim but they were affordable and easy to get. Many times as a youngster I arrived in London with one suitcase, bought a copy of the Evening Standard and had a place to live before nightfall, try doing that now!
Yes, I can see that being very, very different today, there is probably a waiting list for a £1,500 a month room the size of a broom cupboard today. This gives me an idea for a video project when I return, so thanks for putting that idea in my head. Merry Christmas Vivienne
In the mid 80's, up from Bristol, we did a lot of work in London (construction). Some of the lads took "lodgings" in Ealing, while the rest of us went for long-term hotel stays: £95 per week in W1 - Marble Arch! A little while later we took a nice 2-bedroom flat in Clapham for £500 a month, all sorted within a single day. It was a great time to be young and enjoying London. Not these days, though.
Another Grange Hill alumni on Rooms, this time Jenny Twigge who played Mrs. Maguire (Zammo's mum). Given what happened to George, slightly ironic that ELO's 'Living Thing' came on the radio but preferable to 'Evil Woman' I suppose.
😭 Why would you upload Getting Old now that the whole world is celebrating? I don’t want to be reminded of that! 😅 With such a Sad sad image! 🤦🏻♀️😄 I won’t watch until it’s at least 15 January. 😑
Well firstly, for the fan base of Mrs Beale who seems to go down quite well with my subscribers and in this episode (and the next) she is the focus of the story, and secondly ask yourself why millions choose to watch a British soap opera over Christmas, not exactly in a party mix tape to have playing around your family turkey dinner 😉✌🎄

Could you imagine a modern-day UK policeman coming to tell you your cat died?
How times really have changed

The old British Bobby, now you'd just get the divxrcity police haranguing you for misgendering or being wasist
PC Rocky was our local Bobby growing up in the 80’s 😉
Wasist? Well as an ethnic minority yeah good to know the law considers this wrong. Easy for you to mock if it’s never happened to you 🙄
