Thanks for the mention. I enjoyed seeing you again, and thanks for the Randomland 66 pin. I love it.
Teresa Caldwell That was you he mentioned at 23:42?
'Road of Ghosts' that would be a cool title for a future book Justin...hint hint..nudge nudge
I am absolutely loving living vicariously through you on this trip. I want to do this myself one day.
YES!!! We definitely got a "fun pic." We feel so honored to have made it into one of your vlogs! Hope to see you around town back home.
I remember going through Shamrock, TX in 1976 before the I-40 bypass opened. Busy as hell because all I-40 traffic came straight through town. Those Panhandle towns east of Amarillo, and Tucumcari, NM, were some of the last ones to be bypassed. I think by 1980 they had all been bypassed. Great to see some of the Route 66 history of those towns being preserved.
That ginormous crucifix will surely keep All Vampyres away.
Justin you are making history yourself. This series is destined to be the definitive Route 66 travel log. Outstanding!
Watching in 2023. I am a Texas Route66 Association member and live in Amarillo. The association just restored the Phillips station on McLean this past year. Now we are raising money and working on he Super 66 Kaiser station in Alanreed. If you are ever in the area again. Don’t hesitate to shoot me a message. Thanks for advocating for our small, but amazing and mighty section of Route 66
"This feels wrong" (in the empty tomb). Good decision Justin, good decision! 🙂😊🕆🕇
+G1 Smokescreen I actually don't get it I need some explanation
You just keep getting better and better Justin. You make history, into a fun adventure. Great job!
Love seeing all the inspirations for Cars Land. Makes me wanna go back to DCA lol
I must have JUST missed you when you filmed this, Justin. I can't believe it. We passed that cross only a few hours ago on our way down the panhandle.
Another great history lesson on Route 66!!!
I see that you spray painted a few thing on the cars. Very cool! also the "I heart Ally" one, I'm sure that she would love that
This is a fabulous religious shrine area with so many intrinsic asides n grottos!!! Thank you for showing it!!
After seeing some of the missed takes that were left in while editing...I would love to see someone do a behind the scenes with Justin on one of these travels.
I can't imagine how much effort he puts into these but it is very much appreciated by my family and I.
That cook looks like a Muppet in the Barbed Wire Museum Diner!! Attaboy, for finding the coolest historic places!!! I have never seen an actual pink Phillips 66 Gas ⛽ Station!!! Superbly cool!!!
I have always enjoyed Justin's road trips because of all the homework & effort he puts into each video! Justin is a very unique person & very talented in many areas!
Loved the title card ending! Next stop... Oooooooooooooooooooooklahoma 🎵🎶
I was born in Shamrock, Tx. My mom is from Wellington, tx, about 30 miles from there. They have a parade every year in March for St. Patrick's Day, plus a carnival. It's 😎 for you to put Shamrock on the map!!
More interesting sites, and Ramone's place!! Well, the inspiration, at least. I am learning to appreciate the neon. It was around when I was young; glad it was gone, but now wishing it would return....
Haven't watched since the Florida hurricane.. I'm back baby! You're better than ever.
Awesome video Justin... thank you! Maybe one day I'll get to travel Route 66 and stop by some of the places you mention. Safe travels!
After we met on the Route in Missouri, I've become a fan. We also loved the Conoco in Shamrock but didn't get to see it at night. Thanks for that.
"But something about this... Yeah, that feels wrong" Too funny
Awesome vlog as usual. I agree, why did neon lights ever go out of style. The neon looks so cool, especially against the dark night sky. I can just imagine how things looked back in the day with lots of neon.
Glad to see you made it through to Shamrock. Another great video as well. Be safe!
I've driven past the cross in Effingham so many times and I was really confused about when you decided to ditch Route 66 and head to Illinois haha. It's good to know there's another one and I'd love to go and see it some day!
Loving these Route 66 videos! So much history and awesome adventures to be had out there!
Cool! I stayed at the Western Motel in Shamrock too, when I drove Route 66 last autumn (Chicago to Santa Monica)! Not that I expected it to, but looks like my inscription at the Bug Ranch must not have survived -- my tagging at the Cadillac Ranch didn't even make it 10 minutes.… One of these days, if I can ever make the opportunity happen, I want to make the drive again.
I have to hand it to you Justin you really do your home that's what makes your videos
Love when you do the Route 66 videos I really enjoy see what the old mother road looks like now compared to what it was absolutely amazing!!!
At 9:17, the roof and garage door were still in place (though caving in) when I visited in March of 2016. Apparently they got bad enough that someone decided to remove them.
Having kissed the real Blarney Stone - I am remind of the revelation that - the tourists kiss the Blarney Stone during the day - the locals piss on it at night. Thanks for doing an intelligent, thoughtful and well-produced (as in containing actual production values) vlog!
As recall, last time I was there... the giant cross contains within in...a garden shed... fancy...
Nomadic Fanatic just stumbled across your "Route 66" painting on that VW bug and touched it up. :)
My husband and I own a house built exactly in 1930 and the red brick was not painted over like other houses in our historic district.
It's great to see there are other "neon freaks" like myself in this world 🌎!! Fell in love 💕 with neon signs as a kid riding home at night from our Grandma's house in Detroit watching all the cool neon signs everywhere!!! Especially sweet sign on a bar called Joe D's on Ford Rd in Garden City outside of Detroit near our house 🏠 in Inkster, Michigan - it was a champagne glass with bubbles in blue 💙 n pink neon. I remember it to this day n I am 66 yrs old. It was the catalyst that made me a total night person n neon freak!!!
Thank you! I will never need to drive to the Northern end of my state to see all these incredible structures myself! Imagine how discouraging it is to spend hours and hours of driving only to realize you are still in the same state! The most tedious part is that there is almost nothing to see or do along the way.
Justin, every time I've been to Graceland i always touch the doorknobs. because I'm sure Elvis touched them too ;). so i understand you sitting on the entire booth just to make sure! amazing vlog today!!! thanks so much and be safe 😊💕👌
You seem to be recovering well, good skills with the spray can, and a whoppling 32 "Route 66" mentions, keep it up!!!
during the beginning of depression my grandparent had a sheep ranch north of belle fourche sd (11,000 acres). and during that time they sold off all the sheep and headed to calif. for a few months they came back to the ranch and bought cows.. ever since then it was a cattle ranch I read the dairies that was wrote by my grandmother and she talked about all the grasshoppers that covered the fence/
X amount of videos into the road trip and I miss Ally. I love these road trip videos though.
My son and I went from where we live in Apache Junction AZ on Superstition Mountain 👍 through Groom Texas Several years ago and also saw the big Cross, gift shop etc... Pretty Cool!!!
Never thought I'd be so interested in Barbed Wire. Great video!
Justin you're Awesome! thanks for the randomland pin!
Even though the OKC Bombing Memorial isn't on Rt. 66, you need to check it out. Also the Round Barn, and Soda Pops, both in Rt. 66.
My grandpa was in the CCC as well back in the early 50s to early 80s
Great blog today that sure is a lot of birb wire in that place look for you tomorrow.
Great vlog justin. That conoco is so amazing.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you but be sure to stop at the Round Barn and Pops in Arcadia and The Blue Whale in Catoosa. Also be on the lookout for an abandoned decaying rock gas station building between Arcadia and Luther. It's a tiny one room building, not much left but the walls, but makes for some good photos and there's a plaque (of sorts) with a bit of interesting history to read (murder and criminality, etc.).
"I feel that the story about the bra factory was a little bit more uplifting "
Also ab fab Texas rest area n Route 66 Museum!!! What a cool find!!!
I got to see some of that stuff while driving back home to Florida from Colorado, it awesome that you saw the same things I did. To be honest tho the drive is miserable and boring until you get to the road side attractions.
Love it. But I’ve read the first Phillips 66 station in Tx is Turkey Tx by a year. They have a Tx historical plaque honoring it, also have a newspaper from that year advertising it
You actually filled in a few pieces of western expansion I have not thought about, pharmacy product development. I have a bottle, with fluid, from the 1920's of liniment oil. Those pesky liniment's -you know. I keep it next to my Back to the Future trinkets. I think I'm going to study a bit on apothecary. That was a good "stear" and that's no bull. Sure was a fun video. "What's that doing here?" LOL
Europe is older than the states but why we don't have a historic road with all his glory like the route 66
That's America for you lol
Watched this the day after St. Patrick's Day.
Have you ever voiced any cartoons. You would be great!! ;)
The dust bowl exhibit had some of it's text in comic sans
12:48 looks like Phoenix, AZ in the summer
....people took turns taking pictures lying down in there? Um....Yeah I wouldn't feel very comfortable witnessing that hahah.
The helicopter bit was awesome! My (late) boyfriend actually took a ride to the nearest cancer centre on a helicopter. He was crying all the way, haha. He hated heights.
Phillips 66 was adorable! I can definitely see why they were called dollhouses. I would have loved to see what the outfits of the gas station servicemen looked like! I know that might sound weird but these are old-timer outfits so there had to something cool and different about 'em! Stripes? Checkers? Hats?
Those dust/sand/dirt storms must have been terrifying. Definitely "end of the world" material, yikes.
"What's gluten" LOL.
Yeah! That's what I was thinking! There is an incredible amount of types of barbed wire, is it because the previous type iddn't work for one specific need? That's really cool! To think something so common was such a big deal back then. I wouldn't be surprised they had to make medicines for it! Bet there were a lot of accidents involving the Devil's Rope.
A BRA FACTORY? Who would have even guessed that? Not I. "A little more uplifting" get out of here hahah. Puns for days in your videos :p
Those neon lights are absolutely magical! it must look so much better up in person.
Thanks for another upload! Lots of new stuff that I learned about. Lookin' forward to the next adventure.
That bra pun made my entire week. XD
Auto-laundry does not mean "car wash." It was not long after automatic clothes washers were made popular (not invented...made popular) and many were coin operated.
The "auto" refers to the fact that rock and washboards were no longer needed, not the Chevy you brought the clothes in when you came to the auto-laundry.
Was prowrestling mentioned in the barbed wired museum? They use to have barbed wired matches back in the day.
20:00 Well,... at least she`s keeping abreast of matters......
Awesome video ...
'The Leaning Waterrower of.... here'
Literally rolled my eyes at the "uplifting" comment 😂😂😂
I like this channel!
The Devil's Rope Museum was awesome 👍!!! I didn't know people actually collected it!!??!! The bra factory 🏭 story was hilarious. I love how you narrate your videos!!! Attaboy 2, Justin Scarred!!
The "oooooooooooooooooooooooooold wessssshht". Lololololololololololololo
My grandpa was in the CCC as well!
COOL my Dad was in the CCC - have you ever visited your Grandfathers camp - when I was a kid we sed to go back to the ruins of his camp every year I even have his footlocker from the CCC camp in Lee Massachusetts
The weirdest part is... I WANT IT!
I hope you come by Weatherford, OK!
Very cool today
Awesome!
The Indiana town coveted their neighbor's cross.
Wow! I did a vid at this place a year ago....not many views....this vid is much better!!
in re: Phillips 66 station - I guess not everything is bigger in Texas!
Yes
love the leaning tower. weird
Hey Justin! Are u gonna ride that new Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout ride at Disney's California Adventure that replaced The Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror?
Can you do your next big road trip on Route 6 from California to Massachusetts
One day I'd like to go down route 66
The bra factory story was more "uplifting"? Ha, you crack me up, Thanks for giving me a good laugh today Justin..
Smite Me Almighty Smiter!!!
HOLD ON! You can spray paint? or is it thag easy
I can't believe you kissed that!
I wonder??? Should I take my 66 Mustang and 9.4 year old cat down route 66 on my 66th birthday.
WEIRD!
*uplifting*...hahahaha
Say "barbed wire" again! I dare ya!
