  • The windshield washer pump light has been on and fluid leaking under the right (passenger) side fender wing. The reservoir is hard to reach and replace, but the pumps are most likely the cause of the leak and can be replaced with a few hours labor. There are 2 or 3 pumps per car depending on the options package. OEM grommets are sold separately.

Absolutely fantastic video , follow these steps and you cannot go wrong , the only thing I want to mention is when removing the 4 screws ( care these are different size screws ) from the inner door when placing the screws back the 2nd screw from the top or the 3rd from the bottom you will notice the hole will not line up for the screw .This second screw holds the reservoir bottle , so before lining up have someone assist to wiggle the reservoir bottle for the screw to line up . Thereafter you can place the wheel well lining back . Thanks

Unbelievably complicated. I finally got the right side quarter off. Thanks for the vid. My X5 has a step and I could not figure out how to remove. Was able to get the entire tank out. What a mess. BMW gave me a defective? new tank. There is no hole drilled for main pump to seat. Getting it back together is going to be a serious challenge. So many different screws, clips and fasteners. Jeez!

I have leakage too but i can't see where exactly is the leak until i open up. Looks quite abit of works though. Not sure if i want to go for it or do the sack of refilling.
I think mine could be one of the pump leaks or broken because the pressure not as strong as the other side. Thanks. Great effort video anyway.

Great video. BTW is the reservoir level sensor in the front of the tank? I see in the radio there is an electrical harness plugged to the side of the tank, is that the levels sensor? clip around 9:40

I have replaced the first pump without taking the fender off the car. Just the wheel arch and was enough space for one hand to pull the pump up.
