Thanks for a very useful video - my 320D is 8 years old and this is the first problem with the washers. In my case flow suddenly stopped! What a palaver to get to that silly little filter, which was clogged as suggested with BLUE sludge, so sludge from the recommended screen wash! I've given up car maintenance but wasn't wanting to fork out £100 odd to have a garage do it. I used to complain about BMC/BL cars not being built for maintenance but this is no different. Unbelievable range of fixings for one panel. All now working so thanks again.

Ahhh this is what's happened on my F30...I tried the blow technique and it's much better and water coming through. But there's also an awful smell which suggests gunk in the tank contaminating water. I'm not 100% confident in taking wheel off so hoping to pop to a friend's garage and that he won't charge too much.
    But good video mate

This happened to mine. Did the blow back, attached a Silicone Sealant nozzle to the hose for some extra oomph. Put a bit Milton Bottle Steriliser in the tank and it's been perfect since.

Thanks for this 👍🏽 Second time mine has clogged. First time cost me £70 at the garage, won’t be paying that again so going to give this a go on the weekend. Already tried blowing down the tube and no luck

blowing down tube is an emergency fix to get you home. Some people use drain cleaner or equivalent to clean the reservoir. Once out just get the hosepipe in there.

Did mine just now. Got one screw left over as you do :D tanks fully secured top/bottom so im thinking it might be trim but that's holding on well too. Got an mot tomorrow so ill take my chances.

Hi, Do you know how to remove, what looks like a load off tiny balls located inside the filler tube? I want to remove them or it so I can pass a tube right down it into the main reservoir. Thanks

Connected a kettle steam washer to the washer hose you just disconnected.
Heat and steam cleans the filters that the pump has to work through. Only works if the pumps are running of course.

Great video! Obviously here because I did run into this problem now with my 2016 BMW 320I after 7 years. One day I went to use the wipers and notice the water was having a hard time shooting up to the windshield like it used to. I would just go to the gas station and add that wiper fluid into the tank when the notifications came on telling me I was low. Aww man! Once i got to the tank, I saw all that nasty sludge just built up in there, it was crazy. So now im not sure what to use. I mean I live in warm climate so im not worried about it freezing but i feel weird just using plain water to remove a bug splat on the windshield. I feel like I need some soapish substances to remove that kind of stuff. So for now, I bought the official BMW concentrate and plan to just dialute it with water. Hopefully that doesnt happen again. Anyone knows the proper stuff to use? I hear some peole say that offical BMW stuff is just same stuff with the brand name slapped on so im confused with life at this point over water for my windshield lol.

The main thing I have learnt is to not mix products. So if your using dilluted concerntrate then continue don't then mix in ready made screen wash.
I would use a concentrate as it will also prevent the water going mouldy I started using the bmw stuff was strong and worked well but was expensive.
You can use something like this
amzn.to/3JOirED concentrate that also adds a layer of protection to the windscreen. I love rainex products. I use the cleaner and hydrophobic glass protection.

Thanks for the response. I will definitely look into the link from Amazon. Says currently unavailable for me but I'll keep an eye on it. I love Rain-X as well as I've used with other cars in the past.
I'm starting to get the feeling, as much as I love my BMW and the way it rides, it has got the weirdest issues coming up I haven't experienced with other cars. Example the interior rubber on my door handle melting from the extreme heat, interior headliner coming off cause adhesive is gone. Molding trims slowly peeling off cause adhesive melted off and now the windshield issue. 😅

How did you attach the filler neck back on to the hose pipe going to the washer bottle? I cannot seem to get mines back on.

    • @mvautomotive7092
      @mvautomotive7092  5 месяцев назад

The easiest way should be to just push it down and twist it round in a screwing motion. I can't remember if the hose is runner or plastic. If its rubber ypu could also leave it in a mug of hot water for a few minutes to soften the rubber making it easier to expand and push on. Will shrink back once cold.

The joys of BMW ownership! This is such a silly thing to have to do. I ran a shop vac in reverse through the reservoir catch and blew out everything. I think i need a new pump... water spills out the line but there is no noise from the jets whatsoever when i pull the stalk. Zzzz... love German engineering, eh?
