As far as these comments you’re complaining about people saying, “Philip should understand that he’s married to the queen and should obey her and know his place.” No one in this comment section has said that?? Nor close, yet your bringing your frustration from what other people are saying over here and assuming that every woman has that same opinion.. Yet again proving your point assuming that every woman craves dominance over a man, and that every woman has the same opinions for the queen and Philips relationship. When in reality most of women just want an EQUAL understanding and respect, as if thats too much to ask. And I can assure you that I do not share the same opinions for that relationship neither, no one should be obeying anyone and his place is her husband not some servant.. Or when people said “fuck yeah” to when she gave the Prime Minister a lecture. Did you not watch the episode lmao? He deliberately lied and kept information from her, not considering the aspect of his country but denying the reality of his own health keeping his strong willed attitude believing he could still run it. Yet your mad that she gave a truthful statement abt his actions, and that people agreed w it?? No man (that isn’t sexist..) would have a problem w what she said or that people agreed w it or call it cringe, and “normal, progressive, egalitarian anti-monarchy beliefs”.. again really lol. As if favoring equality is some sort of crime, and “anti-monarchy beliefs”, wth is wrong w that not everyone believes in the monarchy.. and you say you’re not British that part is really confusing me? If that entire paragraph alone doesn’t prove your sexism then idk what does, but I’ll keep on going to prove my point. Or “Let’s not fool ourselves, “shut up and accept your position as queen consort to the king/you knew what you the deal lady/do your duty by your husband” etc. would never even occur as a thought to you.” When those are my thoughts exactly for Meghan Markle and Catherine Middleton.. Why, BECAUSE THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE GETTING INTO. Especially Meghan coming from no royal background, but Harry was smart enough to get out of that family. The Crown is proving more now than ever how hard it must be, to be in that family or to be the queen, however accurate it may be. And you say you don’t like Philip in the first 2 seasons because he “complains too much and glad he’s calmed down and accepted his duties”, yet here you go on defending him stating “No sympathizing w him for being trapped in this “archaic, outdated” system that “won’t let him be who he wants to be”. Not only are you proving your point AGAIN w the “hypocrisy and double standards”, but you’re not even giving a definite statement.. both contradict each other.. Pick a side lmao. As far as you assuming again, I actually really liked Philip in the first season and sympathized w him all throughout that season and thought Elizabeth should’ve backed off a bit, no a lot, in realizing that she’s not just the queen but also a wife, mother, and sister as Philip stated. Especially w Margaret’s situation, I’m still a bit mad abt that. So yes I did sympathize w him and thought he was rather very compassionate in the beginning, that was until he cheated on her.. All sympathies left the door as soon as that happened regardless of the responsibilities that were thrown on him I don’t think he should’ve responded to that problem by fucking someone else.. instead of talking to his wife, because I for one have no tolerance for that. Unlike most men, and women unfortunately, accepting that that’s just apart of marriage and men will be men. Or am I assuming that for you? Adultery is considered a sin in the Bible yet that was overlooked by the Church when Philip committed it, and were so persistent on keeping Margaret and Townsend from being together just because he was a divorcee avoiding a scandal to arise, yet we see the irony in that. So yes you’re right there seems to be double standards all throughout the Crown, but not in the light you’re shedding. Have you even take account for Elizabeth’s situation? Having to be thrown into that ball game as well, excuse me leading it, right after her father died not knowing what to do at all, and later realizing that she will always be one half a sister/mother/wife/, and one half as queen. So I consider you to also take a look at the women’s perspective instead of the just the men’s. Why, because you have not done that once and yet here you are going on about “double standards”. And not even by legitimate facts or statements that people has said in these comments, but just by assuming.. And I have a feeling you’re going to go on abt my rant calling it misandrist, annoying, or rather long or something along those lines. But I just have a lot to say to people that are proving their own point and don’t realize it, but “I know you’ll deny this” lol. But who knows maybe I assumed that too.. As far as me, I’m not British either, nor a feminist, nor a misandrist. I rather adore men, respectful ones and gentlemen if you will, they are the gems of this earth and we could use a lot more of them. I just don’t care for disrespect ones, and don’t mind calling them out on it.. But I’m still open to the conversation and hope you can prove me otherwise. @@CosmicTeapot It's a very good question. What were Phillip (and his uncle Lord Mountbatten) really thinking? It should have been clear that Phillip would be nothing but an adjunct to his wife -- the Prince Consort. The closest thing was Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, I guess. Albert had some power behind the scenes, but publicly his wife was the face of the monarchy. Problem is, a hundred plus years later, all that was left for the monarchy was ceremonial. When Elizabeth ascended the throne, all the power was in the hands of the government, mainly the PM. That left little for someone like Phillip to do but be an appendage to his wife.
ORxven no I’ve been on the receiving end of a Prince Phillip comment/joke about my hair when I met him both of the two times I’ve met him, he most likely did say something like this to his wife/The Queen about her hair! He was running late and after he apologised (he apologised to everyone personally because he was nearly two hours late.) he asked me if I had gotten bored waiting? I said no why? He replied it looks like you Raided the colour pen drawer and decided to use your hair as a colouring picture book, couldn’t you decide on one colour? I burst out laughing because he started laughing. At the time I had red, purple, blue and black hair all laying over one another and not the bright pastel colours everyone has now days mine was dark versions of the colours. He was at college to open our brand new performing Arts centre and brand new theatre, Nottingham traffic wasn’t the easiest thing to get through at the time. If you needed to be anywhere you would have been better living close by or leaving a few hours earlier to get to where you needed to be on time. Then I saw him a few years later when I was performing for the RSC and he did remember me he remembered two tattoos I’ve got what they meant and both reasons why I’ve got them in the places I’ve got them and it was almost 7 years since we first met so I was really shocked he actually remembered me, especially my tattoos and the reason I have them. and then I only had half and half coloured hair I had purple on the top and blue/black underneath and he just said to me “you still haven’t decided on just one colour yet?” And spoke to me about other things, and congratulated me for passing my college and university exams and asking how I was getting on working at the RSC etc... so yes I can actually see Phillip saying this. X
River-Phoenix Luna Pavier As Good Bye says, that's amazing. What's most fabulous is that he remembered you as well!! That length of time, he must have met hundreds, if not thousands, of other random people. Not only did he remember your face, but he remembered the comment he made and the meaning of your tattoos :O :)
This joke comes from a currently running joke regarding the Queen: she refuses to wear a helmet when she goes horseback riding, just an Hermes scarf to keep her hair tidy. The joke is the only thing between the Queen and the Heir is her hair.
Even a prince isn’t above mocking his wife’s hair. I showed my mom this scene and she laughed her head off. My dad has mocked her hair their whole marriage and they’ve been together for 36 years.
@@Gaish well they could’ve separated like others did. No need to be divorced. But they were close to each other too. Anyway their mortal selves parted today.
Human Bean You're a guy aren't you!? 🤦🏻♀️😁 So No, she had not, her hair was longer before, and straight! You don't need to be a hair stylist to notice that. 😉 Just watch the episode before... or after this one!
Margaret Neither, just like I said. I'd say the series is surprisingly accurate here. Generally spoken, of course the Queen has changed her haircut every now and then over the years and for example wore it significantly shorter and "rounder" in the late Fifties ... like many women did at the time! 👉🏻 Check out this photo: www.google.de/search?q=elizabeth+hair+1957&tbm=isch&chips=q:elizabeth+hair+1957,online_chips:queen&client=ms-android-samsung&prmd=sinv&hl=de&ved=2ahUKEwjIxfKGgPDcAhWEhaQKHUHFAQIQ4lZ6BAgAECU#imgrc=WJGpT1xZMkOexM
Although her haircut wasn’t the most stylish, this was a pretty lousy thing for Philip to say. But I suppose it’s not as bad as lord snowdon telling Margaret that she looked like a Jewish manicurist (due to the size of her nose).
Margaret Not really. Women can be pretty nasty and even toxic towards each other, even to the point of blackmouthing each other's looks and saying some vile things about each other (especially in arguments on Internet). While men typically don't resort to this, so it's not an accurate statement, I think
If they r so classy tell them to return the things they stole or shall I say looted from the east & other countries ...they forcefully occupied for years.
I rewatch this scene just for his like 30 seconds of contemplation at the beginning 😅 his expression.... too perfect lol. like contemplating how to say it.😂
the actress that played her older was so cold 🥶, she wouldn't have changed that much just because she got older , very grumpy faced most of the time, the older Phillip was pretty good
Same here Just watched all a few weeks ago as summer treat Aimed straight for seasons 3/4 as love both O Colman and Helena B-C but found myself drawn seasons 1/2 more and more
0:59 Claire trying to stay in character but broke the tiniest smile then back to act "im pissed at u Philip". . But oh. This scene is maybe the most *Claire-and-Matt-themselves-banter* we could get! 😍
They definitely softened Philip in season 3. I heard the real Queen complained when she watched it they didn’t show Philip correctly. She thought he was too mean in this than he was in real life. Maybe the writers thought they should soften him for the Queens sake!
They already started filming season 3 by the time the queen watched the first season and she said she liked it but it didn’t show the accurate representation of Prince Phillip and Prince Charles because it made it seem like he was a bad father to him
He absolutely has the right to be honest about what he finds attractive and if she does something to herself that he doesn't find attractive any spouse has the right to mention that to their spouse. It runs along the same lines as telling your spouse what turns you on and what doesn't. You have to have open communication about that. If they do something to themselves that you don't find attractive it's best to let them know.
I think Philip has always known and was ready for giving up everything to always walk a few step behind the Queen, but not so soon. No one at the time expected King George VI to die that soon after their marriage. George VI was only 56 at the time of death. The Windsor monarchs before him all had pretty long lives. Victoria died at 81, Edward VII at 68, George V at 70. Philip, when he proposed to Elizabeth, probably calculated that by the time that Elizabeth ascend to the throne they would probably be in their 40s or 50s. Given that Philip was already Commander in the navy at the age of 30 and his very good family connections, it was very realistic for him to make vice-admiral if not admiral in another 20 years. And before that the first twenty to thirty years it was always his career first. He was no doubt an ambitious and capable man. And he could well have been one of youngest admirals in English history. He probably thought he could have proven to the world that he is his own man before the Elizabeth even become queen. But then the King George VI suddenly died.
@@carlosg8103 my guy how do you not know he cheated on the queen with that dancer. Here is a direct quote from her « A lady is not normally expected to defend her honor. It is the gentleman who should do that. I would have had a happier and easier life if Prince Philip, instead of coming uninvited to my dressing room, had gone home to his pregnant wife on the night in question." I got it from an article from Distractify. Many people reported him being a cheater. Do a bit of research you will find many stories. They even wanted to divorce but since they were royals they had to work through it and divorce wasnt an option.
when he says "jayne mansfield or rita hayworth" it skeezes me out so much. hes not just teasing her anymore at that point, hes being cutting and he knows it. gross.
@Margaret Gust Philip speaks his mind and in most cases speaks the truth. He was not the only one concerned about Charles. Him becoming king has worried people for a long time and still does to this day. I'm sure one of the reasons the Queen loves him is that he will say what he really thinks to her face unlike everyone else.
@@kapi253 Yeah that part was ok, just really snarky, but it's shitty to tell your wife that she should look better by looking like some celebrities you find attractive.
It all seems funny on surface level, but this is all very nasty, controlling behavior. He's basically implying to his wife that he won't sleep with her if she doesn't do her hair the way he likes it. He's putting her down, insulting her, and making her feel unattractive because of a haircut. I'm sure behavior like this was normal at the time, but there's a reason it's unacceptable today. I certainly hope all this is dramatized and conversations like this never actually happened.
Phillip has, always, been a jerk. One quote from him is that WE are "useless eaters". Another is that he "would like to see the world's population reduced by 90%".
If someone does it all the time to a spouse then sure I agree but if there is complaint once in a blue moon about something they find unattractive then why not say it?
It felt like teasing to me. Like how best friends say stuff to each other. I thought the mood was to tease and show us that even queen can get bad haircuts and that her husband would be the only one who would actually call her out on it.
"I thought you were hoping for more children from me?" Well it's a good enough hairstyle for jumping out of a helicopter at the Olympics, he shouldn't complain.
Honestly prince phillip for me didn't even have the looks to get a women like that. I don't know why she wanted him. but hey the heart wants what the heart wants.
Wow. My husband would never speak to me like that! Any style I choose is my fucking decision and he has no say, he knows it, just as I would never critic his chosen styles.
If they were just some random couple I would read this as casual teasing but if you're the king and queen of england and your job is to keep the monarchy alive this feels weirdly ominous
@Lady Seashell Bikini A queen's job is to be sensible and conservative. A wife's job is to be sexy for her husband. The two are not incompatible. Most men prefer their wife to have long hair. Most such men interpret a short haircut on a woman as a sign that reads: "DON'T TOUCH ME I'M NOT INTERESTED IN ATTRACTING YOU!" Many women don't get this. Many women, including both of my grandmothers (one born 1899 the other born 1912) had very long hair and both kept it up in a sensible conservative bun outside the bedroom. I never saw either with their hair down by my one grandfather told me that that grandmother had hair over 6 feet long which explains why he always called her "my sweet Rapunzel" Those grandparents had 8 children and they remained married for 70 years. That was the only thing my grandfather asked of her and he was absolutely devoted and loyal to her from day one. She once told me he treated her like gold, like a movie star right to the end. He never raised a hand to her and that in an age when half of all husbands physically abused their wives. He helped out in the home at a time when that was considered "women's work." He took her to Europe and Hawaii more than once. He made it so she never had to get a job if she didn't want to. And he took care of her hair as well. She told my mother once that my grandfather would spend an hour every evening just brushing her hair. He did that for the last time when she was 86 years old the day before she died.
@@RichARock It was too far in the way that he compared her to other women, especially when there were rumours going around of Philip being unfaithful to her. @@RichARock People are different, you know? Just because you need worse things to annoy you doesn't mean everyone is gonna be the same. You have to respect other people's boundaries. Just because Philip didn't say outstraight that her hair was awful, doesn't mean it wasn't insulting. Ok, you don't find it cool, but the other person likes it and is trying to feel good with itself, you gotta respect that. Tbf, during those times, that hair was extremely common and is actually sophisticated/fashionable among young married women. If you look at old interviews like “should husband be present during the birth of the child” on youtube, majority of the women has that hairstyle
I see you guys don't casually roast your friends or significant others He did take it too far after he mentioned actresses with hairstyles he liked and skeezed out on Rita Hayworth tho lol
Little moments like these truly make me despise Philip as a character. He is needlessly nasty and cruel here. What's worse, he seems to actually enjoy being such an awful person to her. There is a mean, pettiness to him that's considerably more unattractive than Elizabeth's unflattering hair style. If this is actually what their relationship is like irl I'm surprised she put up with him for so long.
That woman has had pretty much one hairstyle her entire life ever since the early 50s, and her early 20s in the years up until her wedding she had a little bit longer, but other than that it’s been pretty much the same
What makes it even worse is that with someone like Philip, musing about Jayne Mansfield or Rita Hayworth wouldn't just be a husbandly fantasy; he actually could have gotten either to sleep with him as a famous, wealthy, handsome prince. JFK slept with Mansfield.
Like Helen Mirren said when she won Oscar: Elizabeth Windsor has maintain her dignity, her sense of duty and her hairstyle. So this is the beginning of the last one.

Son Of Montreal 😂😂😂😂
Wow, her voice sounds like Queen Elizabeth's
I admire her for that! Throughout the series she has the Queens voice tone and speech pattern down to an art. Perfection.

ORxven Was fuck Matt Smith
River-Phoenix Luna Pavier that’s amazing
River-Phoenix Luna Pavier As Good Bye says, that's amazing. What's most fabulous is that he remembered you as well!! That length of time, he must have met hundreds, if not thousands, of other random people. Margaret Neither, just like I said. I'd say the series is surprisingly accurate here. Although her haircut wasn’t the most stylish, this was a pretty lousy thing for Philip to say. But I suppose it’s not as bad as lord snowdon telling Margaret that she looked like a Jewish manicurist (due to the size of her nose).
Men can be really tough. IMO women do not blatantly insult men's physicality like that. We are kinder and gentler.
Margaret agreed!
Margaret Not really. Women can be pretty nasty and even toxic towards each other, even to the point of blackmouthing each other's looks and saying some vile things about each other (especially in arguments on Internet). While men typically don't resort to this, so it's not an accurate statement, I think
I have seen it towards their own sex; not really with men. Women are much gentler towards bald men and would never make fun of one.
Margaret Women are inherently nurturing... men are the ones who set the standard for vulgarity.

They already started filming season 3 by the time the queen watched the first season and she said she liked it but it didn’t show the accurate representation of Prince Phillip and Prince Charles because it made it seem like he was a bad father to him
things that Philip has: the audacity.

yes yes and yes

It all seems funny on surface level, but this is all very nasty, controlling behavior. He's basically implying to his wife that he won't sleep with her if she doesn't do her hair the way he likes it. Well that was mean. I think Her Majesty's hair looks pretty. It suits her.
Pretty is not the same as sexy and men prefer sexy in bed.
@Lady Seashell Bikini That is true. it does go both ways.
