Fantastic videos! The ideas from guys like Curtis Mayfield, etc. were/are some of the most clever, expressive, innovative, adaptable, grooviest playing ideas anyone’s come up with. And truly remarkable in the degree to which they exploit the unique possibilities of the electric guitar as an instrument. Freekin’ luv this stuff.
Greetings from Zambia! I am so much in our African music especially Congolese Soukous and Zambian Kalindula music. But this teaching has got me to subscribe and learn R&B too. You are such a gifted teacher. They don't 'manufacture' your kinds anymore...so many just waffle, Chatterbox for show.
E maj7 to F# m7! If a girl ever asks you to "play me something," PLAY THIS!!!! Ooo Ooo Baby Baby. "I did you wrong, my heart went out to play, but in the game I lost you, what a price to pay, I'm cryin', Ooo Ooo Baby Baby." You play like this, you better take the phone off the hook, know what I'm sayin! Beautiful Rick. I can just hear Smokey now.
This is pretty good R&B lesson, I have seen other R&B yt stuff and they use full chords, but this hits the nail on the head. I have studied your tabs for this, never felt so chilled. But when anybody shouts it is so irritating.... though I practise on acoustic, but till I get it right on acoustic I will try with electric. Thanks for the free pdf, though I only downloaded it for this lesson, it seems like an encyclopedia of gems.
Thank you. I am at the point in my playing where I want to play through the chords and better understand the neck instead of noodling pentatonics along with allman bros jam tracks. You stuff is wonderful.
Beautiful! Also, this showed me how very similar Dmaj7, F#m7 and A really are. Basic stuff, but coming from full bar chord thinking, that opens up possibilities. Thanks!
This is awesome, would love a lesson on bass notes with your thumb in this kind of arrangement. Aside from the root, I never know what to grab in the bass.
I have a set of those joe b’s in my tele. Is that the tele set with a strat in the middle or just a set of strat pickups ?? Really cool either way. Those esp strats and teles u have are unbelievably cool too. I have an old Mij squire strat that I absolutely love. It’s almost the same color blue as yours. 87. Cool how u only play strats and teles primarily. I love it
Extremely cool and necessary funky guitar lesson, Rick!! I can almost see the Pips warming up with Gladys piping out her vocals!! Q: That first quick chord you hit on your Tasty Guitars intros.........is that "Don't Let me Down" by the Ruttles ............I mean Kinks.........or Spenser Davis Group.........one of those one hit wonder British invasion bands from the 60s ???? Jim C.
Always good lesson, when we signup for your monthly lessons. Do we have access to this backing track and tab of this lesson for example. I try replicating with a looper but spend more time setting up. Your YT lesson are always short and explosive in technic and theory. Luv it.
Hi Richard, yes, the lessons come with backing tracks integrated in the Soundslice interactive TAB player, so the TAB scrolls along with the backing track playback.
I love that tele, man. Im such a fuckin dork for a nice custom tele haha. I started out on a shitty knock off Tele-shaped guitar with a 3+3 headstock haha it was horrible. Me continuing to play guitar, thru the awful experience of playing that piece of absolute shit...was a trial of attrition. The only reason it got replaced was because of a guy who worked with my dad whi knew i played guitar (cause my dad would bitch about the noise and how i would 'complain' about the 10$ guitar he got me lol). That coworker of ym dads, came to a party my parents threw and he saw the thing i was wrestling with to squeak out a melody from. He talked to me and found out that i wasnt like clueless and actually liked playing enough that i didn't quit. So that dude, for some incredible and generous reason, came over one night... maybe like 3-4 days after that party. He asks me to come out to his truck to check something out. He put two hardcases on yhe tailgate and popped em open. One a strat and one a Tele. He told me to pick one. I remember thinking he was fuckin with me, cause i was kinda like ignored and not treated well as a kid (my parents would tell me they didnt have 2$ for a new notebook i needed, but they would buy my sister barbies fuckin corvette thw same day lol), so i didnt know if i should take it seriously or if hes gonna say haha sike idiot kid haha. So just looking at them i oicked the tele. He gave me, for free, i was 9yrs old. He fuxkin gave me a USA Lake Placid Blue Fender Tele. For free lol cause he knew my dad was a dick. He then proceeded to ckme over every weekend and play guitar with me and show me cool stuff. He gave me my first pedal and then he gave me my first real amp. He taught me a lot...he taught me that not all grown up men are fucking cold and unloving, passionless zombies. Definitely aweskme. Anywho, been rockin teles ever since. I built 4 and bought 1 custom cause i wanted one made of Koa and a rosewood board (can't get either of those teo woods where i am)
Its F#m7 not Fm7...its all about context, they share the same notes on top, with the bass note playing F# it will sound like F#m7 with the bass on A it will sound like A major. Never think of a chord shape as only 1 possible chord ....that chord could be 10 different things depending on the context the bass note gives.
@@TastyGuitarcom so let me get this straight. I can break seventh chords to my liking to different triads but it all indicates that main chord. Am I right??
Rick, that was both beautiful and brilliant. Love the simplicity. Btw, how do you manage to start looking younger after all these years? 🤣🤣 Cool look. 😎
@@TastyGuitarcom Oh shit! Sorry, I didn't see that. I've had a problem lately with my phone on RUclips showing the wrong publishing time and even the wrong handle from other channels. Weird. Anyway, loved the lesson. 😉
This man is out here doing the lord’s work. Thanks Rick
for real.
Thanks for watching!
I attribute much of my experience to great players like him
it do be like that
Amen to that.
This is great. We need more R&B rhythm lessons. So much lead on you tube very little of this
thanks for checking it out!
And there is such beauty in this.
Great stuff! Echoing other comments, we need to teach this. This R&B and Soul style is what made Jimi Hendrix the player he was.

Yesssss more 70s soul! I’m loving this!
Thanks, Man. I’ve needed this lesson for 40 years! Truly useful content.

Very insightful , reasonable and emotional! Thank you for the post!!!
I found a 80's R&B patch on my fx pedal. I also have a tele, just looking now for the melody, seems like I am in the right place. Emaj7 here I come!
So many great ideas on your channel
That's a sweet looking axe, too. Wow.
Nice lesson...nice touch.
Nashville Tele with 3 double rails.
My kind of guitar.
very fun progression to play. Definitely helps open up a whole new melody to chord world.

Hi guy... Haha what's your guitar it's lovely. It might be Fender telecaster american player series... That's my guess.
Nope this is a Russell Fong custom handmade in USA
sounds liek ugotme by omar apollo. super sick
whoa whoa whoa are my eyes seeing this right... a triple hot rail telly... what. this has to be a personal mod. damn now I must do same 😇
Yes this has 3 Joe Barden puts, noiseless but still twangy
Looks super complicated when you played it in the beginning, but after breaking it down it’s actually very intuitive.
Yep, not that tough when you break it down. Thanks for watching

How did you get the tone man? Jow did you dial it up on your amp? What pedals did you use? What kind of juice did you drink? Lol
lol, I think this was without an amp, just ep booster, flint reverb and tech 21 blonde amp sim pedal
is that F# minor 7 figured like a good old fashion A major chord?
Same shape if you leave out the root on the bottom
Anyone know the chord at 3:32?
that is an Emaj7
@@TastyGuitarcom Thanks, I thought so. Gotta listen to the individual notes more

something more old school, maybe Woolworth's :)
