TastyGuitar.com Please I’m trying to incorporate those awesome fills in a 6/8 song but I don’t understand the timing for doing this... The song is i don’t wanna be you anymore from Billy Eilish. Hope you can help....
I can't tell you how helpful these R & B fills lessons have been for me. Been playing for 45 years, grew up listening to Jimi and not knowing where his chops came from. This is the Holy Grail. When he was known as Jimmy James backing up Curtis Mayfield, LIttle Richard, Sam Cooke, etc., he used these licks as a foundation for his inimitable style. You hear Earl Klugh, George Benson, Larry Carlton in these licks, too. Well done......
Bring it back. How did we ever move out of that sweet soul music. The word soul always seemed to capture my feelings when describing this music. Thanks Rick.
Rick, thanks for posting this. I love double stops and your lesson here encourages me to get more of them under my fingers. I usually go from a given chord, straight to an octave and then back to full chord. This lesson certainly compliments and/or dovetails with playing octaves. Again, thank you very much for posting this Rick!!
I know I'm tardy to the party, but this video and your Soul licks video are both AWESOME! And I agree with the poster below, these are GREAT for inspiring new riffs, licks, songs, and ideas! Much love from Music City, USA!
Great stuff! After playing 47 years there is still room for improvement! I never went into this kind of light soul and traditional R & B stuff but i love it! Thanks! It took me an hour to refresh my skills thanks to your excellent video's!
What this proves to me, and I guess I already knew what just how important articulation, rhythm, syncopation etc are. The notes are just 12 simple notes but what makes a style is all that other ‘feel’.
Yup! Just what everybody said below! This is the second of your must know licks lessons I've looked at and these are some of the best lessons I've seen in 50 years of messing around with guitar!
Absolutely amazing, I just discovered your video tutorials and oh my god they are just what I was looking for. I love teddy pendergrass and these licks could not be more perfect for what I want to play. Thank you very much.
I love your videos, could you please make a lesson with a whole progression and some fill licks? I am a bit of a novice but trying to keep up! Thanks for all your hard work in creating these excellent videos.
I can't believe I finally learnt all these licks in one week... This after being afraid (rightfully so) over a year ago of first seeing this video of which, I first had to learn and drum some more theory into my brain and be more comfortable with fretboard intervals and CAGED patterns in relation to their root positions and surprisingly learning these licks went like a dream - just gotta get my dexterity up to the correct speed and tempos, but so far I am overly joyed - I cannot thank you enough sir, you're the best!!
Not only your best lesson IMHO, it is my my favorite lesson of all time. I love this stuff, exactly as presented. Hyperlinks to the time of each lick would be appreciated but that is the worst I can say. Thanks for not boring us with the theory, the ones that know it, don't need it, the ones that don't, don't wanna know, or can look it up themselves.Knowledge of the thirds in E from the d string down going up and down the neck is all they need to look up or figure out for themselves.
Great stuff man! So refreshing to see this kind of musical and insightful content on such an iconic yet overlooked (these days) genre of music. Taught and executed with great taste and feel. Bravo!
Thanks so much for putting up these videos, I am following all your videos and the content is really rich. I am really learning a lot and the lessons are really easy to follow, digestible and immediately useful. You couldn't have chosen a better name for the page !!
I'm about to shed so hard on your videos. Just what I was looking for for taking the next step. Beautiful work and beautiful playing, thank you so much.
this is the best demonstration I have seen so far....im am now a following fan...thank you sooooo much I play a lot of these chords and have trouble with the fills thank you
Yes Bobby Womack - this is right up his street. BTW I met Bobby in London a few years ago - soul legend. I love your RUclips channel and I am just about to invest in some eLessons. Many thanks M
Can you do a lesson of the the fills/licks you do in between the fills that you're actually teaching?! The little improv lead guitar bits are equally as great as the actual fills you're teaching!
@@TastyGuitarcom ah amazing! I have leaened a lot of them but some of the subtlies you do can be hard to get right. Also, really love your videos. Thanks so much for all the incredible lessons. You teach by far my favorite style of guitar and its pure joy learning your lessons.
Fantastic stuff. Playing for 23 years and there is so little instruction in this style. So fresh sounding. Definitely hear John Mayer incorporate this in his style. More!
Amazing soul lessons, only got an acoustic guitar but still sounds good. Best lessons on RUclips, you explain and show how it should be done brilliantly. Looking forward to more soul and RnB. Stay safe.
actually there wasn't really any guitar player that inspired me to pick up the guitar. I was just always into music from a very young age. I started playing in '85 at the height of the spandex metal days so like every teenager at that time that is what was I was listening to. But I joined a giggin oldies cover band playing while still in high school which really exposed me to a lot of styles, blues, classic rock, motown, funk etc. While most of the guitarists of my generation went in the grunge direction in the early 90's, I was listening to Robben Ford, Tower of Power, Danny Gatton, The Hellecasters, George Benson etc
this channel is honestly superb, the playing always has serious SOUL! These guitar lessons are by far the most relevant to my playing I've ever found, thanks man really appreciate it!
Youre really good guitar guru on youtube, thankyou so much. I've been searching a lesson from chord embellishment on stevie wonder - close to you (live with david frost). I hope someday you can teach us about this embellisment..
I have been on a rock n roll odessy for a band gig ...its been awile .good to be back ...like a cool drink of crystal clear water....as compared to soda pop...i know you get that..time to patron up Rick

@@TastyGuitarcom It is my next challenge :-) I just started to play traditional jazz, George Benson and Stevie Wander on my uke. Billy Cobham is the step father of my son and I was growing up on his and his friends music. I thought it would be easier for me to start with baritone ukulele first but I was wrong - to play it the way Feng Е does it takes rug and bones ) I hope one day I'll be able to show you my progress though. Thank you for your lessons a lot! They are healing and lifting up!
Dear Rick, than you very, very much for this inspiring lesson - and for your very empathic, engaging and motivating style. Keep on! King regards (from Germany), Marco - PS.: Your teaching units are really outstanding compared to other offers!
Wow, Rick! So glad I just discovered this great channel! You are a super player, and I can't wait to dig in to this stuff! Question: Is it necessary to play with one's fingers instead of a pick? I hope not, 'cause I have zero experience with fingerstyle playing. Thanks again!
You don't have to play it finger style, in fact most people would play this stuff with a pick.....but for me I prefer the sound I get with fingers, good luck!
I am a intermediate guitarist however I would really like to use this style doing chord melody solos. I am a gospel guitarist and this would be applicable to hymns etc. What do you recommend ?
