I was lucky enough to catch Van Halen twice live in the 80,s and they were SO good ! Just awesome to see younger generations discover this man and his many talents .. RIP Eddie you will be missed Sir ! Great reaction !
Eddie Van Halen was so good that even the Michael Jackson camp came looking for him & invited him to do the solo on Michaels song - Beat it - & he did.🎸🎸 Now you need to hear the Band as a whole & it all started in 1978 ' Ain't talkin bout love -Van Halen (studio version) & i'm sure it will make ur playlist shortly after👍👍 Enjoyed ur reaction
It's awesome that you are both enjoying this. You were listening to a true legend. Mr Eddie Van Halen was to the guitar what Mozart was to the piano. He was an absolute genius. Even though finger tapping had been used for decades at this point, Eddie's use of it is something new entirely. I grew up listening to these great rock and roll songs and I'm glad for it. Thanks for giving it a listen and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Rock on!

1978 was a great time in music. When this came out i just had to see it. Nothing could compair to the music of the 70s and live just made it better. Back in my day when you followed your fav artist you had to literally follow them, this was before computers internet or cable music channels, thats how we got deemed "groupies" (word that refers to a fan of a particular musical group who follows the band around while they are on tour or who attends as many of their public appearances as possible) , just a little fun fact. Thanx for great reaction, Be well, Peace
This was around 1986-87. The song was composed (loosely, its a jam) in 78. Eddie was incredible. Every guitarist in the 80s was doing his best to play like him, and failing. Just like Jimmy Page and Jimmi Hendrix, he influenced a whole generation of players.
@@kenkonwick6660 Yep. And, it evolved. I am old as dirt and lived in Hollywood during the 70s. He has been doing, albeit extremely rough, versions since back then. He did more than influence players, he changed the course or music and the sound of the guitar by the modifications that he made to his guitar and the equipment the he made and used..He wasn't just a virtuoso, he was a musical genius...
This was never written down. The original eruption around 11:24 (intro to You Really Got Me) was a warm up Eddie used before practices and an exec/producer heard it and said they should add it somehow to the album they were working on (1978 Van Halen). The solos in concert were never the same and just Eddie doing Eddie things. Pretty sure this was 1986.
It is always awesome seeing someone seeing this for the first time. He was the greatest of all time. His leads were nuts but his rhythm was even better. I’ve looked up to him my entire life as a guitar player. The thing that stuck out to me? Basically his love of his craft and his smile. He loved it all and I miss him tremendously. Congratulations on your discovery
I was 10 years old when VH One came out in 1978. I had older brothers that were musicians and I was a blooming one. I used to sneak into my older brothers room and listen to the albums I heard them play. My Bro got this new album and I put it on the record player and the second track was Eruption and it blew my mind! Eddie inspired me in my early guitar playing years. One of my favorite solos by him was on Michael Jacksons Beat It from the Thriller album. By 1982 I was playing in a band and emulating his style. He's gone but never forgotten. I also like that you watch the whole video then give your reactions.
Yes, Kamy. He was kinda popular with ladies. He was married to Valerie Bertinelli and they have a son, Wolfie. As you might have guessed, he is also a musician and toured as the bassist in Van Halen. Eddie unfortunately passed in 2020 of a stroke from several complicating factors. So, he is now immortal.
If you like drums, check out his brother’s drum solo from this same concert. Each member would do a solo performance during their shows. His brother Al is one of the best.

Great reaction 👏. Ya know I have mad respect for Jimmy, who passed to soon and Stevie, the greatest blue's rock guitarist but you just watched the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived! RIP Eddie ❤
That's Eddie's brother Alex on drums. Nobody could tap like him. The original eruption didn't all the extra, it was clean and amazing. All my friends and I bought the album when it came out in 1977 I believe...this style was new..
Believe it or not, Eddie was wasted during this performance, and he had said later, that he had no recollection of doing this solo, that's how awesome he was!! RIP Eddie Van Halen.
Dude... I do believe you.. Me and Ed were best friends for a long time.. He got this song from me.. I was so wasted that I don't even remember writing it!!! I do remember trading it to him for a sweet vintage zippo lighter.. siiiiiigh I kept that thing for almost 34 years and lost it on a camping trip in texas... r.i.p. brother.. And.. hahaha I still have your freaky pastel colored motorcycle helmet
Hey King N Kamy! Eddie Van Halen was a classical pianist when he was a kid and his brother Alex played drums in the band. They came over to the US with their father who also played a musical instrument, I think the clarinet which is featured on Van Halen's song Big Bad Bill of their album, Diver Down. He also designed his own guitars, amps and pedals. Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page are great guitarists but Eddie Van Halen is unique, in more than one way, that he made his own guitar gear.
You mentioned Stevie vs. Eddie as who is best...no easy answer at this level...they have different styles and favor different types of music in general. Both incredibly outstanding and possessing their own distinctive tone. When you hear one of their songs for the first time you know who it is. I'd label them both as virtuosos and call it a day.
What Edward did was open the door for hundreds of thousands of guitarist to hit the rock scene in which many were able to score record labels. Not to mention the influence he had on nearly every guitarist in all kinds of music. The county music singers in 80’s90’s and even today were influenced by his music. And what I mean was he opened the door? Rock was on the back burner in the late 70’s. There was pink, disco and the traditional rock bands like Zepplin Aerosmith,Black Sabbath… but what Eddie did bust that door down and Rock nRoll was at the top by the early 80’s. Slash of Guns N Roses said that Eddie busting on the scene made it possible for him and the band to be one what they were. He was a musical phenomenon, Beethoven of our time. He sadly missed but he gave us a lot of material for us to listen to just like this live solo for us to enjoy for generations to come. Thank you Edward Ludwig VanHalen. RIP

When you play a guitar, there are 3 types of notes, Panatonic's, Diatonics, and Val Halenonics, also known as hammer on hammer off notes. He didn't invent it, but he perfected it. Just like Michael Jackson didn't invent the Moonwalk, he perfected it. Just amazing the different sounds Eddie he was able to get from a guitar. There will never be another Eddie Van Halen.
Hi guys. There is an amazing a capella group called, Home Free. You will swear you hear musical instruments, but there are none. It is all vocal. Check out their cover of the Doobie Brothers, Listen To The Music. It is awesome. Great reaction,
Comparing EVH and SRV is like comparing apple pie to pork chops. Completely different styles and ways to play and both are awesome. SRV is probably the best blues guitarist to ever live and Eddie was an innovator of unique sounds. Now the big man upstairs is jamming with them both.
His brother plays the drums behind him, and is a great drummer! Ironically, their parents, both musically gifted, bought the first guitar for Alex, and the drums for Eddie! But Eddie kept playing Alex's guitar, so Alex was like, "Fine! I'ma play ur drums then!"
Eddie Van Halen was a wizard on the guitar. Another song with great guitar work is Pink Floyd performing COMFORTABLY NUMB live at the PULSE CONCERT (1994). It includes a spectacular light show as well.
He had an unusual playing style, in that he didn't brace his hand or wrist anywhere on the guitar. Every time I try that, I feel so out of control, like I'm gonna start knocking stuff off the shelves. Ha ha, he was such a beast. But apparently a cool dude. At NAMM my buddy stood in line to get an autograph and t-shirt but they ran out of shirts. So Eddie took the shirt off his back and gave it to Dave... how cool is THAT?!
That is a weird song for a 1st reaction to a new found band ,but it is from their debut album .. .Ain't Talkin' bout Love is from the 1st also. , that is a good start ..

If u ever heard of the actress Valeri Bertinelli, that's her ex husband. They were still married when this was made. I was actually at this concert. The last show of the tour in New Have conn.
Hey Guys!!! If you're Not familiar with This, it all Started with a Solo called "Eruption", from their 1st album in 1978, that goes directly into the Cover of the song, "You really got me", originally done by "The Kinks". Here's the Audio of that Solo and the Cover Song > ruclips.net/video/zTY8s12OXS8/видео.html
Incorrect on loosely 78, it's a piece together of Eruption, Cathedral, Spanish Fly n a violin piece by a German composer. This is from Live Without A Net, saw them on this tour n multiple others
Eddie plays guitar on the soundtrack of Michael Jackson's..Beat It. Listen to the guitar and solo, you'll recognize his style. Good job hope to see more.
I have a theory on how Eddie could play each distinctive note so fast...His fingers have to go super-sonic just to get so many notes in sequence. Okay, I'm deliberately exaggerating here, but not by much. 😏 Back then, they didn't have auto-tuners or sequencers. Some bands had foot pedals for modulating their sounds but full-out electronic synthesizers were still very much in the experimental stage in music performances (check out Edgar Winter Group for an example). You may have also noticed that Eddie wasn't even using foot pedals...What you heard is what he played, right from the guitar itself. Another thing that's noticable is how the audience is dead silent when Eddie plays but waits until he's pausing to go wild...They wanted to hear every single note. Eddie had a profound effect on guitar players in his time & his experimentation with instruments, music & sound broke a lot of ceilings & raised the bar across the whole industry. He proved that there is no cap on guitar skills.
Beginning guitarists see this and get excited and enthused, or watch this and get disgusted with themselves because they can't play like that in a couple of months and quit. This was Ed in his prime. His vices hadn't caught up with him, health wise, at the time. They ruined his marriage, at or around this time, which led to him getting clean, but unfortunately his health wasn't so good after years of smokin', drinkin', and God knows "what else'in'!"!!

Nice reaction. New subscriber 🤘❤️rock on. Ther is only about 50 years of modern rock to get thru🤣 led zeppelin, AC/DC. And the Beatles would keep you busy for months. And bring in tons of subs
Eddie Van Halen before Areosmith and Run DMC collaborated with Michael Jackson on the song beat it his solo.
KING EDWARD 👑 RIP
He was a musical genius and couldn't read music
It's the BOMB!! We all know that Eddie fans.

Eddie does the guitar solo on Beat It
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
His brother on the drums Alex was just as good on drums as Eddie was on guitar.
his sound came in 1977
I have a theory on how Eddie could play each distinctive note so fast...His fingers have to go super-sonic just to get so many notes in sequence.
Okay, I'm deliberately exaggerating here, but not by much. 😏
Back then, they didn't have auto-tuners or sequencers.
Please react to these I’d appreciate it a lot
