    Great reaction 👏. I won't even sugarcoat it, you just watched the greatest Rock and Roll guitar player that's ever lived! He had fun when he played, he didn't invent tapping but he mastered it. And come on, he made the guitar sound like a violin or a cello. RIP Eddie. They'll never be another.

    This was the Live without a Net show, filmed in New Haven, Connecticut. This solo is an amalgam of several solos and improv. That man was a god. He was not "vaping", that's called a cigarette.

      @@peterclyon 3:16 as a complete song was released on the "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" album, you'r correct. But this WAS played during the solo for this concert. it's kind of like 'Dee' by Randy Rhoads. Part of it showed up in an earlier live performance, in a different track. It wasn't released as a title until the Tribue album after his death. Dee was never actually finished, but bits of it got sprinkled in as part of the creative process. Believe me, when I watched Live Without a Net on tape back in the day (it's the only VH concert I ever watched), I had rented it after F.U.C.K. was released, I thought it was odd. So, cheers, right back at you.

    You have to remember that Eddie was self taught and had never taken a guitar lesson in his life and after building his first guitar he became the greatest guitarist that has ever lived and not long after this performance GUITAR WORLD MAGAZINE gave him the title of THE GUITAR GOD. And remember at this concert he was totally smashed drunk and had no memory of playing the concert ever. Eddie did more for young people wanting to play the guitar than any other guitarist that has ever lived. For us that grew up listening for his playing our world got extremely dark and we felt a huge loss when he passed away. There will never be another Eddie Van Halen again. Our hearts were broken the day that the world lost the GUITAR GOD!!!

I was 13 when I first saw Edward Van Halen and was mezmerized...I began playing guitar because of what I saw and heard, just like TENS OF MILLIONS of other guitarists at the time. I knew you had beautiful eyes when your video started, but when you saw the force of nature Eddie was, they were big and even more beautiful. Eddie was self-trained, and played piano and drums as well. He was also loaded on alcohol when he did that magic in Eruption. Sadly, we lost him to cancer 2 years ago at the age of 65. His son Wolfgang Van Halen is an incredible guitar player himself, if you shut your eyes when you listen to him you would swear it was Eddie all the way.

  • @alashley29
    @alashley29 2 года назад

    Wow! Watching you react to this sure takes me back. In 1978 I was a sophomore in HS. When VH hit the airwaves, everyone I knew who were die hard rock fans were left just as speechless and amazed. Nobody could understand how he was playing, including my friends who knew how to play guitar. People became fixated and obsessed by the sounds he produced and the speed he produced them. I had the honor of getting to see him close up at 3 different shows, and my mouth was hanging open the whole time. Lol, as a kid in those days if you hadn't seen Van Halen, you hadn't lived. I've never played any kind of instrument so my understanding was zero, and the word amazed just somehow didn't begin to describe how I felt listening. The music world changed. Even the way it was written had to change. They had to incorporate something called "tabs" in music writing so people could "try" to understand how to play the way he did. I'm sure others in here can explain this so much better, but it's what I do know from listening to tons of interviews he did. He was actually trained as a classical pianist as a kid but...he couldn't read music! True fact! He had an incredible ear, and that's how he began. He even described how his piano teacher would play something, and ask him to repeat it. He could flawlessly do it. There's so much about him out there, and it's all incredible. The day he passed I teared up like I lost a friend. Had a hard time listening to him without getting emotional for weeks. He's a music world icon and as kids he was our hero. Great reaction Gracie! Good to see you having the same look of amazement we all have had.

      @patfranks785 2 года назад

      How would you say he compares to Jimmy Hendrix?

    • @alashley29
      @alashley29 2 года назад

      Well I do know the man was every bit as creative as EVH, perhaps even more when you consider many of the effects he used that many try to copy were done without any extra equipment like wammy bars and pedals and such, which only serves to make his playing that much more intriguing. Many of the greats like Clapton, Page, Santana and others struggled to do what he did in a way that complimented their playing. VH had the curiosity and engineering skills to build his own equipment, to his own specifications and expectations, by altering existing components and scabbing together parts of different guitars to achieve his own signature sound. In that respect I think (imo) that he could probably duplicate a recording more closely than Jimi could only because he was utilizing components that were designed to make and replicate sounds more closely and consistantly, where Jimi was limited to his own creativity without all the extras which is impressive as hell. Using a right handed guitar and restringing it for left handed playing changed the tones of the strings right off the start. How he figured out the rest on his own is a mystery because there weren't many if any other guitarists who could help him, or that would try what he did if they didn't think they could incorporate it into their music. Thats about as close of an honest opinion I can give. Not being a musician myself, I find it difficult to critique anybody who can do what I cant. Im just a fan but thanks for asking 😉🎸
