As awful as the pandemic was, to me the worst thing that happened in 2020 was the loss of Eddie Van Halen and Neil Peart.......both taken away by cancer. They are always in the discussion about the Greatest Of All Time with respect to the instruments they played.
@@jimhardiman3836 Chick Corea once dueled with Herbie Hancock back and forth on the piano, and Chick won hands down. Herbie stopped playing and gave accolades to Chick. Chick Corea on the acoustic piano was by far, the BEST jazz pianist around.

Great commentary after the video. I couldn't agree more. To say the music of Van Halen helped define a generation is an understatement. RIP to the rock god
I saw Van Halen in 1981 @ Madison Square Garden. My favorite Guitar Player of all Time ! Check out more Van Halen "unchained & "so this is love" Oakland coliseum 1981
Great comments. The Van Halen bros. mother was from the Dutch colonies in the far east. Eddies brother Alex plays the drums. Their father Jan, was a jazz musican that played the clarinet. Greetings from Norway! Keep up the good work. Be safe!
As a band, i only liked a few songs, was more into the heavier stuff. But, Eddie Van Halen was special. A game changer!! No matter what music you are into, you have to recognise EVH as one of the best ever. His rhythm playing was also stellar.I am glad you enjoyed this Elok.
I saw them live later on this tour in 1986 in Rockford, Illinois in the states. I was about thirteen at the time and it was the first hard rock concert I ever went to. To this day, after seeing 100's of concerts since then, this is the one that I will always remember more than any else. Eddie was a true legend and I'll always cherish the fact that I saw him live and in his prime!
I thought you would dig this instrumental! Imagine being Tony Iommi in 1978 and having to follow this dude who was playing in the band opening for Black Sabbath on their British tour of that year. To his credit, Iommi didn’t have Van Halen kicked off the tour, which would often happen if the supporting act was regularly upstaging the headliner. I think that what EVH was doing when he appears to be flipping the audience off is throwing guitar picks into the crowd. If you look closely at his guitar, you’ll see that he has a strip of double-sided sticky tape on it where he has attached spare picks. A big influence on EVH was Eric Clapton, especially his work in Cream, so I would be interested in your reaction to Cream’s live version of “Crossroads”, which EVH learnt note-for-note. Another great video Elok! Rock on! 🤘🏻
Eddie Van Halen was one of a kind. Revolutionized guitar playing. He played/lived hard but in the end was a human being with incredible talent. Thank you Eddie....
If anyone hasn't already clarified it yet, "Eruption" from the album Van Halen is an instrumental guitar solo lasting just a couple minutes. This "Eruption", is his live guitar solo in concert that showcases numerous famous instrumentals from various albums, probably also with some new stuff just for the concert tour. It just happens to be called Eruption here. Other solos in this video include Cathedral from Diver Down, and Spanish Fly from Van Halen II. It's a mashup of many of his famous solos.
Hi Elok, yes a true Legend and you have joined millions who have already been touched by this great mans incredible talent. He was one of the kind and is sadly missed. RIP Eddie. Another great reaction and you were on point with your description of this extraordinary Guitarist.
He was so great at guitar, his skills were on a different level and a legend in his own right. He was a badass and he played the hell out of that Frankenstrat or sometimes something similar to it and he did it with heart. And his son Wolfgang Van Halen takes up after his dad too \m/. More Van Halen please 😎
That's not his Frankenstrat, it's the 5150 with single coil pickups, the Frankenstrat used Gibson Humbucker pickups. You can tell by the "5150" on the body.
@@HEAVYMETALmovie1981 After re-checking the stats on the 5150 I have to admit I was wrong about the pickups, they are in fact Seymour Duncan SH-11's, humbuckers. The Kramer 5150 is what Eddie would have created if he could make Frankie all over from scratch except the 5150 has the Kramer Barretta body instead of a Fender Strat. They're close in a lot of ways but they're not the same, Frankie is Frankie, 5150 is 5150, it's like getting twins mixed up and calling them by the wrong names, if they could they'd say "I'm the other one."
Eddie was the first at many things and a true legend . I was lucky enough to catch Van Halen twice live in the 80,s and it is So cool to see the younger generations enjoy this mans talents and could make a guitar come out with sounds that should be illegal in 50 states. You will be missed Sir and RIP .
Good choice! Some of the sounds coming from Eddie's guitar during the solo are incorporated into, or come directly from other VH songs. I hope to see more Van Halen on your channel! 🎸
Pure Magic, I still remember the very first time I saw Van Halen back in 1980 on their women and children first tour still my favorite album to this day. He was a magician on the fretboard and no other could do what he did even to this day no other has even come close to his majesty
Awesome reaction as usual. Your little tiny claps are the best!!!! So much more great music you haven't heard. Literally can't wait for your every post!!!
Yeah, Eddie did thumbs up and loved his fans like we loved him. He had fun partying as a rock star but he preached partying by VH music, not drama like the hair bands gave birth to. VH is timeless and irreplaceable. And Eddie, the God-empowered Beethoven of our time, gave so much in every concert. Your respects is welcome, as Van Halen welcomes you and all who just wanna rock!
Thank you SO much for sharing your reaction to this! Elok, You're young and beautiful and I hope you are enjoying life. You look very happy! I'm old. If there was just ONE thing I've seen in life that I hope never fades into history, it would be Eddie Van Halen in his youth playing this for audiences around the world. It was truly amazing to be at this show and see this solo back in '86. I hope 100 years from now, people are still looking back on this with wonder. It was as amazing as you might think it was.

Rip eddie van halen - 1955 - 2020 I was shocked and I just found out he died last year, If it were a legend everyone would remember his name EDDIE VAN HALEN
The people Eddie has influenced are countless, you can find them in every genre of rock and metal, even in Slipknot. Mick plays a Fender Super-Strat Soloist with Humbucker pickups and Jim plays Fender Strats, Telecasters and Jazzmasters with Humbucker pickups. Strats used single coil pickups, Eddie was the dude who put Gibson Humbuckers on a Strat and changed rock guitar forever, his custom Frankenstrat model is the Holy Grail of Fender guitars.
This guitar is his 5150 Fender Stratocaster from the Van Hagar era, it used single coil pickups. It has more shimmer as they say, not as dirty as Humbuckers.
To get the sound when the blue lights kick on, that's the song Cathedral. Use the distortion and a delay pedal. You turn the volume on the guitar down, hit the frets and then turn it up. You do it up and down to get that cello effect. It's pretty easy to do. But you have do it in sync of your delay speed to make it sound right.
There are are many great guitarists with out of this world talent but there are only a few who can be labelled as innovators. EVH was one of the few. RIP
I just found out his mother is Indonesian, There was an interview, he said his mother was from Indonesia, if you couldn't believe you could see the interview for yourself
Hi Elok, You won't get any trouble from me! Re: the bio, It is important to note that Eddie did not develop his immense playing prowess by being stoned and drunk. Yes, that was part of the hard rock culture of the time, but Eddie was also an accomplished classical pianist. He would enter competitions as a child and without being able to read the music, and he would best his competition anyway. Eddie was a gifted musician of the the highest order. Most who knew him also praised his genuine good nature. Long live the King in the hearts and minds of many! There is a concert on RUclips from Oakland in 1981 (I believe). React to some of these tunes to get a feel for the powerful performances by this band. Excellent reaction!
That Guitar solo & this song off the 1st Album ' Aint talking bout love-Van Halen (studio version) Eddies guitar tone was sick & every guitar player in the world was soon playing catch-up. Enjoyed ur reaction 😁👍
Hi Elok Hsu. Eddie's Mom is from Indonesia FYI. BTW, guitarists back in the day used to flick their picks to people in the crowd as part of the showmanship.
I enjoyed your review of the legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen. Congratulations on your research. That added a lot to your review. I have to explain about what you thought was flipping off the audience though. Far from disrespecting the audience, he was actually throwing his picks to the audience when he switched from picking to tapping. If you look at his guitar closely you can see several picks attached to the body. Imagine being at that concert and getting one of Eddie's picks as a souvenir. RIP Eddie Van Halen.
Another great review Elok! My God it’s great to see people that listen thoughtfully and eloquently share their responses😄 One of a kind Eddie, 8:21 you see him working his guitar sorcery, and 8:35 is the literal moment that EVH leaves this world and appears as the constellation EVH in the celestial heavens as a rock God🥲
If you can believe it Eddie was completely drunk and doesn't remember anything from this performance at all and he was still able to do THAT most rock people will say that Eddie Van Halen is and will always be THE rock guitar God that will ever live. He was a self taught musician who never let anything set the boundaries of what he was able to do musically with a guitar or piano. And on many of the bands songs he played lead guitar and keyboards at the SAME TIME!!! Absolutely incredible.
Hi Elik, I like the way you show the video and then you reply. Unlike others, they often reply before it ends which at times drives me crazy. But you, you wait until it ends. I also like that you give a bio before showing. Also of note before Eruption he played 516 which was he played during his wife's pregnancy for there baby (Wolfgang Van Halen). One thing Elok, don't lose that smile. RIP Eddie, we still miss you.

You should hear his dad play ukelele ...you can tell where Eddie got some inspiration for some of his signature licks. His dad was a beast too, not quite the same, but awesome. Eddie was clearly the attraction, the outerspace talent, but Alex and Michael were really awesome as well. Great video.
If you are referring to the RUclips video floating around the internet, that isn't Jan Van Halen. He never played a ukulele in his life. He was a professional Saxophonist and Clarinetist who made a living supporting his family in big Jazz bands. Also, the guy in your RUclips video looks absolutely nothing like him. Hate to break the news to you but the guy who uploaded it put the title that way to get clicks.

And am really really liking your reaction they are truly becoming LEGENDARY EPICNESS FIRENESS GREATNESS STATUS PERIOD (:. You Are AMAZINGNESS (:.
Just FYI that you may find interesting, Eddie and Alex Van Halen's mother is from Indonesia. Her name was Eugenia Van Beers. She met her future husband, Jan Van Halen after he moved to Indonesia shortly after World War 2 as the Netherlands was becoming a hostile place to live. It was there he met and fell in love with Eugenia. They left Indonesia in the early 1950's and moved back to the Netherlands for a brief time before boarding a ship and moving the entire family to the United States. Eddie, and Alex are 2 extremely talented and gifted musicians. Their father was a jazz musician for many years and both Eddie and Alex grew up in a home full of music and even getting to play with their father sometimes to make extra money. Their life story is unique, especially from the musical background they came from. I'm glad you have discovered the greatness of what Van Halen is and became as musicians and rock icons. Eddie Van Halen was one of a kind. Not sure he will EVER be replaced. Loved your reaction.
Hi beautiful! To make the guitar sound like a violine you (better He! hahaha) have to manouvre the guitar volume control rising it and lowering it when you hit the note, plus he has the delay (echo) which helps the sound to seem like a violine. This is on paper, now I'm a guitarist and when I try I get stuck after three notes hahahahahha..... Eddie was a master in anyway with a guitar in his hands!!!! The Michael Jackson song "Beat It" guitar solo and everything was played by Eddie, to give you an example; check it out!!!! You can try to react also to Steve Vai "Tender Surrender" , if you like guitar so much. Take care!!!!

@@MetalMcfly i was. Thanks for letting me know.
Did you know Eddie and Alex mother was Indonesian and their dad Dutch
Apa Khabar

Well you have said it all everything I could have possibly said about The Legend GOAT himself and more (:. Eddie was everything you describe too the letter (:. And I Absolutely Agree A Billion %. (:.
Try some Steve vai to also he is also on amazing level as Eddie
Thank You!!!
You should react to Jimi Hendrix. He revolutionized guitar playing years before Van Halen.
Noted!!
Eddie actually incorporates some of his other instrumentals into this. It's not just Eruption.
React to somebody to love live trust me one of the best live performances of queen 🥶😂
