  • In this video I review the H-shaped floor plan including its historical roots in the medieval double-ended hall house. I illustrate the advantages and design options with modern residential examples and floor plans.

I have thoroughly enjoyed and have been completely immersed in these videos. As someone who has been in Construction for many years, it is a transition into design and architecture that seems to spur me on into the later years of my career to develop more in my trade. Thanks.

I'm really happy I ran across this video, I've always invisioned building an H house layout, now I have the opportunity to do so using shipping containers. This video is the start of my design process.
    Thank you

It's also a wonderful floor plan for a restaurant. Then later it's real easy to in close more and more of the center area. You can keep adding as you can afford to.

This is just superb, I been tryin to find out about "open a pool hall business analyst" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Fensaiah Conavid Review - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my colleague got cool success with it.

The "H" makes for a grand design, but for the insides of the H to provide reasonable courtyard outdoor spaces, you need a large lot to build on. You also use a LOT of exterior wall area (expensive in cladding and insulation) relative to the amount of floor space. On the other hand, the H makes possible relatively short roof and floor spans without interior load bearing walls. Maybe best for rural areas with large lots and temperate climate.

In areas of the country that are vulnerable to hurricanes and storms with high winds, the H-shape plan would be good to consider. The central hall would be the durable concrete core, which serves to anchor the side wings. A family could take refuge in this area in an emergency. That concrete core can still have small wall openings that allow for natural lighting.

I like U-shape and H-shape house design s. Does it make sense to have bedrooms and bathrooms on the upper floor above kitchen and dining area?

It´s exactly what i´m doing! :o I´m not an arquitect studant yet but i propose to myself a chalenge with imaginary clients and landscape (that is small and has many trees) and i was trying to resolve it with an H shape. :) Now i've found this old video.

This is my dream. I actually want to get two 16x40 sheds and attach them with an H. I wish I could get flat roofs like shown here, but I will most likely get lofted barn style. Want to draw up a plan for it on your youtube channel? I thought one shed could have a small living room, kitchen with 4 barstool island, bathroom and utility room, family closet, and 1 bedroom. The other building could be 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and a small open playroom. The H could be an entry and formal living room with no tv.

16x40 is a nice long proportion for sure, very cool. It's funny how frightened of flat roofs contractors here are... have you seen this video of mine? ruclips.net/video/TpN5ibrud-o/видео.html
We do flat roofs all the time with problem...as long as they're detailed and constructed correctly, they're every bit as watertight as a pitched roof. cheers...

Greater surface area per volume makes for much higher heating and cooling costs.

This is marginal with a super-insulated structure.

Yes, maybe, yes, brilliant and maybe. Have a simple cottage being built. I prefer a detached garage. Love the H plan concept. You would need to have 5 to 10 acres to do either where we are building. Especially with the breezeway in-between. Building codes are not as creative as even centuries old concepts.

Phrased the question poorly. Are there any books out there that overview the history/ design purpose of various architectural elements? For example. 0:24 - 0:32
