- Bessie Ellen is a classic sailing yacht like no other, and now she's for sale! This is a rare opportunity to own a fine example of a traditional charter vessel.
Bessie Ellen was built in 1904 by W.S Kelly of Plymouth as a trading ketch, one of many similar vessels plying their trade around the coast of the UK and Ireland.
She was refitted as a charter vessel by the current owner, retaining as much of her original charm as possible and has operated very successfully around the UK, northern Europe and the Canary Islands for many years.
Bessie Ellen has a very traditional feel but is equipped with modern electrical, mechanical and domestic systems making her a warm, safe and comfortable sailing yacht to be aboard even in cold northern climates.
She has a large saloon, historically her cargo hold, with 12 single berths for guests and lots of seating. Forward is a crew cabin with separate heads and aft is the owner/skippers cabin. The commercial grade galley is fully equipped for charter sailing.
This wonderful classic sailing yacht for sale is virtually unique due to the level of certification that she carries which would be impossible to obtain if starting afresh with another vessel. Her certification includes:
MCA Category 0 for 12 passengers plus 6 crew
Class VI passenger licence for 60 day passengers
Cargo licence for 50 tons of cargo.
Bessie Ellen is registered under 24m so can be captained with an RYA Yachtmaster commercial licence making her an easy boat to crew.
The classic yacht is fully equipped with all the necessary safety, navigation and general equipment or her certified level of commercial operation.
Constantly maintained by a professional group of experienced craftsmen, this traditional yacht must be one of the best examples of a traditional wooden sailing ship for sale afloat and is in first class condition ready for commercial sailing. Her MCA commercial licence is fully up to date with all necessary gear and equipment.

Grand tour or a living masterpiece...your entire talk walk was darn near perfect..vocabulary terms, pause times, photography, yet your use of the word ' people' as in - you can fit a lot of people in the dining room..leaves me wanting more thought by you to pick better terms..such as - guests- staff, crew, vip's , corporate guests..not a bland word like people It goes without saying..after all..its very likely only people are likely attending supper here🐣ciao!
Even though she has been for sail for two years now it is good to know that Nikki still keeps her in trim shape and she is still earning her way as a charter tour vessel. Making a circumnavigation of the British Isles this year 2024.

Not exactly built for comfort - very much an ex-working boat - which will require a massive investment in time and money to convert to that of a traditional sailing vessel.
A magnificent way of living ! Sadly at 73yo and in poor health my time has run out but I still have a strong emotional attraction to deadeyes and ratlines!
