Battle Before Dawn was the ultimate troll map. All the difficulty, luck based success, and escorting through the fog with a long range boss, JUST TO SAVE A CHARACTER WE KNOW WILL BE THE VILLAIN!!!!
If i be the player Me: perfect now we rescue jaffar and nino Eliwood: what about zephiel? Me: believe me you better let the black fang kill him this is the only time i i allowed the black fang kill someonea so let's get out here
Battle before dawn wasn’t that bad personally. It was the very level after. Hear me out. First of all, I played FE7 before 6, so I didn’t know Zephiel will be the villian, second, I just stayed in place and didn’t care for much beyond that, third, I didn’t care about getting Jaffar and Nino, which I now regret.
16:06 Oh gosh, crit chances on ANYTHING in FE is the absolute worst. I remember a boss fight in FE8, where the enemy hero had a 40% chance to hit and 3% to crit. And it happened. What does Joshua say upon dying? "Looks like my luck finally ran out....heh..." You're darn well right it did!
@KirbyMaster2020 one time, I fought a bloody archer wielding the killer bow, florina was on a visited house and all I heard was, swoosh! swoosh! swoosh! and reset the chapter
So basically, A timed, luck based escort mission, where the escort will usually be dead by turn 8. Let's throw in fog of war, for good measure. Oh, and don't forget that if one character dies, you can't recruit the other! Recruited Nino? Congratulations, have another person to escort! Want both of them? Keep them both alive by the end of the mission! There's also a boss roaming around, and the items are there to troll you. You have 15 turns to do all that and hope you don't get your ass kicked. Oh, and you end up saving the villian for the next game. No wonder you hate this goddamn chapter so f**king much.
Why does being evil automatically make people incredibly strong and powerful beings in these games? The dudes completely consumed by evil are practically gods. I'd like an FE boss for once who just dies of a heart attack the second you try to attack him, and the true final boss turns out to be his shoelaces or something. I just wrote a script for an Uwe Boll directed Fire Emblem movie, didn't I?
Intelligent Systems, we are either fucking with you with our item placement, or fucking with you with enemy placement. Either way, we're fucking with you, and you still buy our games.
Actually, Zephiel turning from a wimp you have to rescue from his father's assassins into a badass villain who murdered his rescuers is pretty good character development and plot twist. that chapter is still bs tho
"Hrrmph!" Support Lv. increased... LOGIC! Also that Rescue staff is just basically dumping all the salt in a McDonalds onto the tissue from a open arm.
Ultimafire1258 well, atleast that salt can be used to kill slugs. Save Zephiel with a High magic sage in the entrance if your thief is full, sends the rescue to merlinus, and the sage retrieves the rescue. Git made a video about this recently.
I get that the level sucks. But it's actually really cool story writing in that you go through this massive amount of pain to save a kid and give him a second chance, just for him to become evil. Not everyone can be saved vibe.
Yea, from a storytelling perspective the level is great at the storytelling job, but gameplay wise... I haven't played FE but git just describing this level gave me a good idea how painful it is.
To be fair, there actually is a very. VERY small hint that you need to level up Nils. During the tutorial, it tells you to "Level up Nils and increase his skill.", something it doesn't say about any other character. Granted, it doesn't really help much, but it's at least a clue, useless as it is.
That's true. But I didn't know about the level 7 thing until after I cleared 19x on Hector's Tale. Upon reaching chapter 21, I realized that Nils was level 6! What I indeed needed was a strategy guide (or the internet). ;)
I removed Fog of War on Chapter 13x. I then was greeted with just how many units I was against. 10. 10 enemies. Just 10. And yet, half of my army was still dying.
I don't really have as much of a problem with fog of war or BBD. Probably because I avoid HHM. Thieves are the way to go though. Make them your main unit to use and they are pretty much unstoppable when I play.
For my playthroughs when I just level up one thief correctly and my other units a fair amount, I don't have too much trouble. Unless I get RNG screwed. Freakin mages >:l
GeneralCane Agreed. As a Dark Souls player, I can say that when a game plays dirty and throws you curveballs, it’s only fair to even the odds. I understand wanting to win the legitimate way, but don’t feel bad about using whatever you must in order to succeed.
Oh my. The memories. I remember my sister made me play FE 7 when I was a kid and, granted, I was playing in Eliwood normal mode and she helped me through some of the chapters, but this damn chapter still gave me nightmares for a while.
Only in Fire Emblem games is the enemy having a 50% hit chance a problem. Why? Because here's how FE RNG works: Enemy: 0%=0% 10%=50% 20%=70% 30%=80% 40%=85% 50%=90% 60%=95% 70%=100% 80%=110% 90%=150% 100%=200% You/NPC: 0%=0% 10%=0% 20%=0% 30%=0% 40%=0% 50%=10% 60%=20% 70%=30% 80%=50% 90%=70% 100%=90%
200%? LOL unnecessary much. More like this (% FE says)/(Player)/(Enemy) 25 / 15 / 40 50 / 30 / 70 75 / 60 / 85 99 / 90 / 99.9 And my luck isn't that good so this is as bad is it's going to get.
@@RenShinomiya121 Well Brave Hector at least, his daughter is a great counter to all the other Hectors since none of them are very good in Res then add color advantage.
If I got to do a Fire Emblem 6 remake,... I would totally have Zephiel be able to speak with Barte. Zephiel: You shall not bar my path! Barte: Funny how it works. I fought to save your life when you were young. Zephiel: ...What? That's impossible! Don't lie to me! Barte: It's the truth, inconsiderate lad. When you were about as old as Roy over there, assassins came to kill you. I and many others came to your rescue. Zephiel: ... Barte: "Do you not remember that? The battle before dawn? Zephiel: So you have come to finish the job then, assassin? Barte: What? No I-wow THIS is the person we fought SO hard to save?!
Honestly the most useful unit you have for this mission is Merlinus... Yes, fucking Merlinus. He can stand in range of Ursula's Bolting and probably not get hit by it because of his ridiculous avoid. He can take a good bit of the burden off this stupid chapter
Aion:Annoying bolting user Lloyd:fast moving boss in fog of war Pent:rescue mission in fog of war Let's combine it! .... Ursula:annoying moving long range magic user boas on rescue mission in fog of war on horse :v
@@dupecon Wolt with marcus: Wolt: Marcus, make me a good unit (teach me how to use a sword) Marcus: no lol (Archers have many benefits on the battlefield, and at your age learning a new weapon isn't feasible. We wouldn't want a sub-par swordsman holding us back.)
I love Zephiel's animation in FE6. One of my favorite bosses. I mean how badass is it to have a sceptor that turns into a huge ass sword that shoots shockwaves??
I remember playing this game a lot when I was in high school years ago and I must say, Battle before Dawn had me restarting so much due to Jaffar and Nino dying because of bad luck, I literally tossed my gba onto my bed and cried because I thought I would never finish the game. x3;;;
I got REALLY lucky with this chapter. Jaffar basically stayed in a pillar the whole time because the dumb enemies would go so close to him. I saved Nino barely, and used Heath to carry her to jaffar. My emulator stopped working at literally the end of the 29th chapter, which sucks.
What's harder is the FE6 version of Ch. 14, Crumbling League. I mean, would you want a myrmidon that has a Killing Edge in hand, can move once he spawns (spawns on EP Turn 6), and has a couple of companions with him?
I played this on the emulator on my phone so I could always undo my moves. Never missed the bonus chapters nor lost a character. ...but it meant I had to go over and over the same turn a bizillion times urgh
Speaking of worst levels ever, how about those gaiden chapters from shadow dragon? All of them, they fail on principle alone. Who the hell is willingly going to kill all but 5 of their units just to unlock a new map, (and no, the fact that many units have no personality or are cannon fodder is not a good reason)? Every enemy is on par or better then you, have cheat weapons, and is a massive luck-based-game. There is no strategy. All in all it really shows how dated the first game is nowadays huh?
I actually agree it is bullshit. I just needed to play Devil's Advocate and point out that you can't blame outdated practices for the Gaiden chapter crap. And since it's actually new, that makes it worse. It's a practice no game in its right mind would allow to happen.
Saltyoven Well you tend to only train about a dozen units anyway and the whole point of the Gaiden chapters is to help replenish your reserves if you went and got too many units killed. And the enemies in the Gaiden chapters I thought were a bit easier than their standard chapter counterparts. I didn't like them at first, but I enjoyed them on later playthroughs and especially on hard mode. And they're soldiers some of them are going to die so it makes the role of a tactician more meaningful.
SpooniestBard the problem is the game also likes to give you nameless cannon fodder soldiers if you lose too many making it even more annoying to get the gaiden chapters
This video made me appreciate the characters in Fire Emblem Heroes a lot more! Thanks. I started with Shining Force on Sega Genesis, went on to Advance Wars, and then finally made it over to Fire Emblem by playing Awakening. Looks like I missed out on a lot of great backstory.
The rescue staff... I knew the level was bad, but that little tidbit just clinches it. Oh, to have been in the room when they came up with that one. At least you can theoretically use it to save Jaffar within the chapter.
I once played this chapter in a randomized version. I didn't get any good mounted units, so I just could not reach Zephiel in time to save him. The only strategy that worked was rushing to the chest with the rescue staff to rescue Zephiel out of his room.
I recently completed this chapter in HHM, and frankly, I was INCREDIBLY lucky. I sent Marcus, Florina, Raven, Pent and Ninian leftward; and Farina(who wasn't promoted, and couldn't deal with any enemy unit), Heath, Hector, Legault, and Canas rightward. Heath killed Ursula with 4 HP left, and dealt with four mercenaries. Florina was cleaning up the vicinity of Zephiel with 3 HP left, and Raven was ORKOing heroes, generals, mages and archers. In a nutshell, I was so lucky that I finished off EVERY enemy on the map.
Oh my god. All of these chapters I hated on ELIWOOD NORMAL MODE. (I'm a filthy casual so I've never played Hector Hard Mode, and have only beaten Hector's normal mode on a emulator using savestates and arena grinding). Seriously, though, my first playthrough of this game I had no idea how to successfully play a SRPG game, so I would constantly bring my weakest units into battle to ensure that they would level up, so I ended up on Chapter 18x with nobody above Level 10 except maybe Eliwood, but he was super weak at the beginning of the game so I hardly used him. Marcus had died (on Chapter 17 Pirate Ship, I remember vividly), and Lyn was like level 6. So when I got to Battle Before Dawn, I was severely underleveled, had no idea how to actually play this game correctly, and god damn it Nino why do you keep dying before I can get to you? Jaffar died too? What the fuck.
I didnt actually have any problems with Four-Fanged Offense (Lloyd version) and BBD in Eliwood Normal. Killed Lloyd with a promoted Raven and rescued Zephiel with the staff in time, and also recruited Nino and made her talk to Jaffar.
Same kinda casual here, FE7 was my first SRPG when I was 13, so I couldn't imagine NOT using Marcus? Paladins and Sages are obviously the best units because of weapon triangle and multiple ranges, right? Who needs Archers or Lords? Anyways, all my bad practices finally caught up to me in Ch. 24, the Lloyd version of Four-Fanged Offence. I just couldn't beat it. So I restarted, leveled up units much better, and beat the Linus version. Still, Battle Before Dawn required a week of resets...and the Gaiden mission after that had ANOTHER long-range Bolter Boss that could easily surround and kill my characters. (I know I'm responding 3 years later, but I still have STRONG FEELINGS about this game and the anger it brought me.)
Zephiel reminds me of Wheatley from Portal 2, now that I think about it. You help him then he betrays you once he's powerful. JAFFAAR WHY DIDN'T U ASSASSINATE HIM EARLIER?!?
Ale Isshiki #BlameAleIsshikiForFE6 oh sorry, almost forgot that Gingerwood is a horrible lord to most of you guys. He's still quite decent over here, though.
Dunno if anyone else knows, but Omni Blade has a Top 10 Worst maps and number 9 is basically the script for this, nearly word for word. Not sure if credit was given or not.
11:17 That's interesting that a main story chapter can be altered like that. I thankfully seem to have gotten the 2nd version of this chapter. I hate fog of war levels so the Lloyd version would have been awful for me.
My strategy for this chapter Legault, Sain, Florina to the right Everyone else to the left. Florina rescues Jaffar and flees Lyn talks to Nino Farina rescues Nino and flees Brings them into the hallway that connects the east and west side above Zephiel's room Drop Jaffar Drop Nino Talk next turn
+Corrin The Ship Lord i haven't even finished this FE yet, but i'm playing it to get ready for fates and awakening... anyway. do you think i'm doing fine so far? playing through my first Fire Emblem, i'm at the chapter after the one showcased on this vid, and i've lost... hmm... an archer that i forgot to heal, a cool guy that rides a wyvern on the same chapter i got him, a potential ally that died from a counter, and the axe guy you get early on in the game. so. 3 deaths, and 1 that could've been a buddy. is that aiight? lol. i feel like i'm doing fine for my first FE title.
Yeah. First titles are hard. Those people were pretty hard for me to keep alive too... And I'm gonna take a wild guess and say: Rebecca/Wil Guy Heath Dorcas
Corrin The Ship Lord Rebecca i think... i know Wil is alive so it must've been her. Guy got rekt by a counter from Marcus. Heath died by his boss. :( i wanted him to get the last hit and rek the dude but he got doubled, missed, and wouldn't have killed him anyway. then Dorcas... i forget her name, but the really brutal chick that had Nergals power inside of her whooped his ass while having an archer i had to save with him, luckily she ended up fine, but Dorcas was a good guy, sucks i had to lose him, at least i have Erk. :3 he's BROKEN. i swear no other character can touch him, at least not in my playthrough.
***** I finally beat it about a week ago and it was really good. hopefully my time with it was enough to get me prepared for fates. it's cool to know that Roy is Eliwoods' son too. i wonder if Ike is Hectors' grandson or something. with the last level, man... they rekt me hard for a little bit there, and with the final boss, i had to lure his little buds out to make sure i didn't take on all 3 at once. sadly... a few people died on the last level, but i didn't mind too much since it was the FINAL chapter with no endgame bonus stuff or anything. but man, the old magician guy Athos, he was so OP it wasn't even funny. to beat the dragon at the end, i had to have Nils and a healer looping to heal the guy every time he got hit so he could take on the dragon alone. that thing had like 150 hp. :O
***** I can see how he mistaked Hector for Ike. Hector is the most Op character in Rekka no Ken. Ike is the only main character in the series that can beat his own game by himself.
I think this chapter is better then Fire Emblem 6's desert level. Why? You COULD easily fix this chapter just by moving Nino's position to in the throne room with Zephiel. (Also, maybe buff Zephiel's stats up A LITTLE) It solves the issue of random deaths (at least Nino's and Zephiel's) by giving them some bloody back up! That way, the challenge factor is entirely up how well you can circumnavigate the castle quickly before turn 13 happens and Ursula making a fucking beeline for Zephiel. You COULD fix the Arcadia chapter by making Roy promote sooner, buff the priest's stats, less fucking bandits, give some Roy a dragon-slaying blade, LESS FUCKING BANDITS- *has sudden stroke*
In arcadia. I bring all three thief that we have. Chad, astol and cath. Chad get the talisman and silver card(after dieck finish all the shit) cath find the speedwing idont remember but at the place where the bandit come from (before turn 7) and Astol to pick the rescued/silence (dont remeber again). My astol almost at max lavel so he can run and avoid the attack from the wrynrider. With all the thief. I can collect all the treasure , and my Lilina already promoted, she and lugh is soo good. I also bring ray just to be put in sleep and silence all of the time and annoy his brother (lugh:can u help me instead of sleep?). Milady and Thanny also already promoted which make me easier to bring all the thief to its place.
It's really funny actually... this is by far my faourite level in FE7, has been ever since I first played it. To the point where whenever I start a new playthrough of the game, this is the point I look forward to the most. And it actually shows how different my approach to FE is compared to everyone else. I play it for the story and don't give a crap about "efficiency" or HHM. This chapter is the culmination of the Bern arc of the game. You're racing to stop an assassination attempt and save THREE people. On the lower difficulties, I love how much Jaffar just slaughters everything that comes near him. I like getting Nino to him to unlock the side chapter. The closure it brings to his redemption story. And there's some really good loot in the chests. The only thing I hate is the boss: they make one of the Four Fangs an optional boss who stays out of your range most of the time? Weird. I almost never manage to kill her in my runs. Then again, I usually stay away from HHM on this game, I don't find it fun at all with my playstyle. Eliwood Hard Mode is fine (it's actually probably equal to the NORMAL mode of most FE games) but on HHM I can see why this chapter is so hated: so much luck involved in the NPCs surviving, and someone on the design team was a total scumbag and gave the enemies near Jaffar Swordslayers. On Normal getting to him is pretty doable if you sent a Paladin around the left side.
One of your friends made an actual arson threat: twitter.com/mannymanguy6731/status/1294671411705819138 Another responded by refusing to care: twitter.com/rexaura888/status/1294675910797352960 Explain your clique's bullshit.
When talking about how already scary FE bosses get even scarier when they move, you should have recorded talking to Lloyd on Cog of Destiny with Nino, because after two talks with him, WHERE HE ALMOST JOINS YOUR DAMN ARMY, he refuses a final time and will actually become able to move off his throne after that. That was the worst fucking scare.
I’m interested in this series, but because of the permadeath feature, I am going to learn as much about the games before I jump in. So I am grateful that you posted this video. It’s helpful.
The first time I played that level, I didn't realise that zephiel had a silver sword with him and I thought he managed to beat the crap out of at least one or two of the axemen with his bare hands, which made me respect him a tiny bit, considering he was merely a child. Of course, until I realised that one, he had one of the best weapons in the game with him at that time, and two, he basically killed hector, my favourite unit.
Intelligent Systems joke: "Remember that Magic Sword-wielding badass almost-final boss from Binding Blade? Let's make him a weakling and force the player to suffer protecting him!
Ursula: Tell me, are you afraid of seath? Also Ursula: **Completely misses powerful attack to the mounted unit, and got obliretated by same mounted unit** Yes, he/she's so afraid of death, you can't even land a hit on them tho
+Pokéfan Kieran Though, without Nino talking to Jaffar, you can't get to the next gaiden chapter, and in that chapter you can get a Fell Contract to promote your thief if you want.
man Ursula gives me the creeps to this day. I'm pretty new to fire emblem and fe7 is my first game. and after many resets I finally had No one die, recruited Nino and was about to save zephiel, but Ursula come out of no were and asks "tell me...are you afraid to die" and I was like no then I saw 25 attack and i immediately said yes and I lost Raven.
Not nearly as bad as 99% of FE5. But yes, overly luck-reliant stuff in strategy games is never a good thing. I can't bring myself to hate this level though; Jaffar and Nino are two of my favourite characters in any video game and finally getting them on my party was a relief (though I was on ENM, so oh well)
Ah yes FE5, the one game in the franchise that finds a way to screw you even if you grinded yourself up a team of super powerful units. Used your favorite character too much? Fuck you, now you can't use them on the next level which is most likely harder than the last. And don't even get me started on the enemy-exclusive class, Barons, who have the ability to use almost any weapon in the game AND have the massive amounts of defense generals are known for.
I hear a lot of people say FE5 is the best in the series, but from all I've heard about it, I'm starting to think it might be the most unbearable game ever.
whoisthisgit Woah, really? A lot of people say FE5 is the best? It's rare for me to find people who even know FE5 exists. Most people I see who're into Fire Emblem usually say Awakening is the best... Mainly because most of those people haven't played any of the other titles.
7:16 Thankfully, Pent is one of the few pre-promo characters who is actually a hardcore badass. Protecting him is the easy part of this mission. The hard part is making sure he doesn't kill enough enemies to keep you from meeting the EXP threshold to unlock the X chapter that lets you recruit Hawkeye. Axe user luck. Those guys should never be able to land 3 consecutive hits like that lol
Pent has almost no bearing on your ability to unlock the gaiden lol. You can just buy a couple barrier staves in the kinship's bond secret shop and then spam them every turn with priscilla and someone else like serra, plus dancing for someone with ninian every turn, and you'll easily get it. Pent can solo almost the entire map and you'll still get more than enough experience just using staves/dancing to get the experience requirement.
The duality of man in the responses lol. One guy saying Pent has no bearing at all, and the other saying they had to restart several times because of him soloing the map.
Okay, but fair on Zephiel becoming bad in Binding Blade. If my dad tried to kill me twice, forcing me to get buff as fuck in the process of coping with very few, if any friends, i'd be pretty pissed too.
Just recently finished this level on Eliwood normal. I hated it so much. Jaffar died before I could reach him 5 times, so I had to completely change my strategy and use almost all my mounted units. What's worse is that I had to ignore the chests because I was too busy trying to keep everyone alive. There goes my brave lance. Oh and I couldn't get the elysian whip because I had to play so defensively that I couldn't even get to the bishop who was it. RIP Heath, totally worth getting you to level 20 just so that you can't upgrade. Oh and fuck Ursula too. I had to restart four times because I was going for a "no-death run", but Ursula had different plans. I had to use up most of my vulneraries/elixirs to beat that chapter, it's probably my least favorite one in that game. I also hate living legend. It's easy in normal mode but getting that side quest as well as all the hidden items is annoying
***** when i first played that chapter jaffar literally dodged everything and the hardest challenge for me was to get Nino to talk to Jaffar before the chapter ended
The first time I played it, I went after Nino first. She died immediately after I recruited her. Jaffar killed most of the enemies until his weapon broke, and then he died (I thought I could still recruit him, but it didn't even matter). I'm like the worst FE player, but that was so frustrating.
THANK YOU. The first two times I played this level on freaking Eliwood Normal Mode, Jaffar died before I even got close despite moving the maximum amount each turn. Ever since then I have despised this level.
looking back at this i feel like i really miss these kinds of levels. now days it feels like all levels are very straightforward and there isn't any like side quests like these unless you count the child paralogues.
+Xeruon I feel like every chapter in Conquest was a gimmick chapter, it's annoying in the completely opposite way that Awakening's straightforward chapters were annoying.
Yuki Terumi I really wish they brought back no resting between battles. It makes the game so much harder, but so much more enjoyable. Also, can the devs stop putting Arenas and Vendors in the same map? Take a page from FE 8s chapter 10. You could arena grind, but not infinitely, or FE 6's chapter 20A. You could arena abuse, and there is a shop, but there's someone up for recruitment, who could die, and a Gaiden chapter that has to be accessed for the best ending (and access to Karel).
Haha I love this level. Of course I was really frustrated on my first playthrough in Eliwood Normal as a kid, but it certainly is memorable, and very satisfying to play perfectly. That said I can certainly say that the luck necessary on HHM makes it unfun without an emulator and a lil RNG manipulation. That said the other factors that make it annoying, fog and Ursula, do add to the vibe of the chapter where Nino and Zephipel feel confused, abandoned, and vulnerable, and Jafar is this lone badass doing all he can.
Here's my strategy for this level: 1. Leave both Merlinus and a staff user with a high enough staff rank to use the Rescue staff at the start. 2. Either split up or go with you entire army to Nino's side. (Get a thief or someone with a chest key on Nino's side, too.) 3. Get the Rescue staff from the chest. (Make sure the character that gets the staff has full inventory for you to send it to Merlinus.) 4. Send it to Merlinus. 5. Give the Rescue staff from Merlinus to your staff user. (It'll be easier to do this when he promotes and gets a wagon, since you can leave him anywhere.) 6. Use the Rescue staff on Zephiel. I still can't believe my completely untested strategy went into a Whoisthisgit video and worked, though I doubt that it came from a random commenter like me, and he just had the same strategy that I had. I hope it was the former.
This actually looks pretty legit. Have you tried this yourself? If so, how well did it go for you at first (and how many tries, if this was a theory when you first thought of it)? I haven't really tried HHM yet, just HNM.
Computing Magus I tried it, it does helps but one unit (Lucius) that does not keeps with you almost ends with Jaffar and some units being killed. Good strategy but be fast as the light.
Agitha Insect Princess? Well, your theory is not wrong, but not having one staff unit in the field is not optimal. After all, in this chapter your staff unit are most optimal to be Pent, Lucius or Canas.
I'd like to vouch for the Path of Radiance chapter where you have to mount a boat to Begnion as being a Worst Level Ever. I've had to restart that chapter multiple times because of stuff I had no way of accounting for happening: - Needing to send a Laguz unit towards the myrmidon to recruit him isn't that hard to figure out, but by the time the dialogue that even makes you aware he exists pops up, your Laguz could be halfway across the map. - A recruitable unit spawning right at the start, once Ike has already probably moved halfway across the map. I assumed there were going to be enemies near there due to the Wyverns hanging just out of the map borders, but I didn't assume a recruitable would be among them, and so I couldn't really backpedal on my mistake before Jill suicided on the units i left behind. - Black Knight spawning in the center of the map as an ambush reinforcement... as in, he moves immediately when he spawns, immediately killing a unit i had placed near there to bait Jill closer to Ike during a different attempt. - This map is pretty wide and basically forces you to use your cavaliers and Ike to make any progress, since you need to leave at least one Laguz behind for the myrmidon. However, due to the aforementioned Jill, you have to leave Ike at the start, thus you can't utilize him to help make a dent in the enemy forces. This is a problem because your only other sword units are Mia, who sucks imo, and the aforementioned Myrmidon recruit, who is recruited on the opposite end of the map as the majority of enemies. You also have to ensure Jill doesn't suicide on Ike but also that her other wyvern buddies don't kill Ike either. And on top of that, the Black Knight spawns very soon after Jill does, so... Overall a really obnoxious map in a game i was starting to really enjoy.
This level was bitch for me even in normal mode, but luckily I still recruited Jaffar and Nino, saved Zephiel and kept all my units alive in one piece. Now if you ask me. Fuck FE 4 and 5. I don't know if you played those games but a lot of levels are almost as frustrating as this one. Well first off enemies are smarter and all will attack one of your units. Making it easier to kill down your army in the long run. And I am the kind of player that can't afford to let even one single unit die. If they die then I just restart the level. But that's only if you have standards like I do. And also I first played FE6 and then everything in GBA afterwards, so I wasn't use to FE 4&5 mechanics, but what made me cringe is that sometimes the boss enemies will move " sometimes" and extremely rarely you see bosses in the GBA and Gamecube do that. And bandits normally will get to one village before you do, sometimes it's an item that doesn't matter but like I said, I am the kind of guy who wants everything. But we all know the biggest bull shot of them all and it can be in any FE game! The arena. You try to train one of your weaker units and then bad luck strikes. They find the one unit that can one shit kill yours and you can not exit it out until they hit you. That sucks. I love FE but it can be a serious troll to players.
joao neto That also happened to me too. Except the first time he was unlucky and was killed, so I restarted because I really wanted him on my team. And damn was he worth getting. Killed the dragon with his silencer move. Jaffar is my all time favorite unit.
Iconic video. Just played this level on the nintendo switch online and im so grateful for emulators cuz without save states this map would have made me rip my hair out
And what does Zephiel do for thanks after you go through all this agony to save his butt? Kills Hector, Guy (if Karel didn't kill him), Rath, possibly Lyn depending on who you paired with who, also possibly Heath and Vaida if they refused to harm innocents, and a lot of other characters after he becomes the king of Bern. ....ZEPHIEL, THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS! (in all honesty, though, I had more trouble with the Lloyd version of "Four-Fanged Offense", but this is a close second in my book)
***** In FE6, he invades Sacae and practically wipes out the Kutolah tribe, leaving only a handful of survivors. In Shin's ending, it's mentioned that he becomes the next leader of the tribe after Dayan retires, so that probably means that Rath got killed during one of Zephiel's attacks as well as whoever Sue's mother was. Guy also most likely got killed as well, unfortunately. (THE FAVORITE CHARACTER CURSE STRIKES AGAIN DX)
AsterOrca I give you that. However, Shin became the leader, even though Sue is alive, so that doesnt REALLY prove Rath's fate. Guy's fate is 100% unknown. he did not return to the plains, so he wouldn't of been executed then. He may of died to Karel, but still. Also, there are plenty of characters whos fate is unknown. Such as PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE IN THIS GAME. With exception to a couple such as Karen, Canas, and Rebecca
I agree... you were too light on that level. You just reminded me of all those times I had a near heart attack and cried when I was rushing in, got mobbed and killed, or one of the NPCs got slaughter. Though... you did answer one of my biggest questions that was nagging me constantly... 'Could Ursala Move?' Usually I kill her before turn 11 or 12 comes around with a fully leveled Florinia and (BOSS) Canas. However there were a few times before I thought of just leaving her alone and suddenly... Boom... Dead Zephiel... A real kick to the nads.
Man. This is nothing compared to 'Sophia and The Legendary Weapon Rescue' chapter in FE6. That's like a whole new level of worst compared to this one. Ugh
I have to say, I'm wondering if this chapter was so unbearably frustrating, is it because the dev were so over the game with hard mode that they said "lol what if if we made the players never play again so we don't have to finish it". Because really, this chapter throw everything at you in such a rapid fire that not getting whiplash from it is impossible All of that for rescuing ZEPHIEL. Especially if you played FE6, this is just a salted blade that is shoved in your wound lol
Worst levels in Fire Emblem? Chapter 14, FE6. Jesus CHRIST. Fog of war. Desert. High level flying enemies who can gank you out of nowhere. Staff assholes. TWO liabilities who must be dragged around the map, one of whom is impeded by the desert. Fuckload of reinforcements in the starting area to spite you if you leave them behind. Gaiden requirement - finish the chapter in 25 turns. Difficult if you want all the treasure and the staff assholes keep putting Roy to sleep. Arbitrary Guiding Ring (one of FOUR in the game for EIGHT unpromoted magic users outside of secret shops) that can only be acquired at the other end of the map by Liability #1. Fuck. That. Map.
Yeah, I hate FE6 Ch 14, it's probably one of the reasons it's my least favourite FE game. Combining fog of war and desert was the most horrible idea IS ever had and there's a very good reason they never did it again, not to mention reinforcements and being forced to deploy a character with the defense of wet tissue paper.
There's a lot of horrible levels in 6. There's one chapter where you have to keep a certain ENEMY alive (they don't join until afterwards) to get a sidequest (and you need all the sidequests to get the last 3 chapters of the game), the horrible chapter before the Zephiel one, a huge map with massive wyvern lord reinforcement spam, a time limit to get a sidequest, a character who really seems like he was planned to be recruitable but the devs went "eh, no" at the last minute and a horribly tough boss. Hilariously, the actual final chapter of FE6 is by far the most pathetically easy in the series.
You forgot to mention DRAGONS!!! I was playing it completely blind (minus looking up where the treasure is, of course) when I came across this chapter and my only 2 promoted units are both mounted... uh, yeah. I swear if I knew about this level I would have given Saul my so-far-only Guiding Ring instead of Clarine >_> But I even almost managed the level on my first run somehow! Except Axereaver Miledy, who I sent to distract the Berserker assholes, ended up getting hit by a 20-something% Brigand (on top of a Devil Axe and Halberd hit each) who happened to just about kill her. Although to be fair I would still have had to make Sophia get the Guiding Ring and kill the boss but THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE EASY PART AT THAT POINT!
I've found the best way to do this chapter is to have a Warrior or two with a sage or bishop on the right. They go towards nino, and because they can switch between range and close they can handle pretty much everything while the bulk of your units handle the far harder left side. Preferably the ones going left have some speed. It doesn't work 100% of the time, but I find splitting your forces increases the risk to your own troops (something you actually have some control over) and reduces the risk to the npc units (whose fate is harder to control). Just my 2 cents though.
Felt somehow accomplished when you mentioned this level, but then I realized it was HHM and I merely completed it on Eli's normal mode... Yeah. I struggled to get through it, with nearly 25 people singing behind me, so it was sorta' memorable. XD
Battle Before Dawn was SOOOOOO much bullshit for me. 3 things either happened. 1) Nino dies because she's so WEAK 2) That paladin with the silver lance actually hits Jaffar, so he dies. 3) I accidentally went too close Ursula, so her Bolting got mee.
After several tries, I eventually I managed to save Nino, but Jaffar ended up dying anyway. I still hated him for killing Leina (the Ostian spy who Jaffar kills several chapters back), plus the chapter was so fucking frustrating, I just let him die. Meh.
AMEN. Upon seeing one of your videos, I tried this series. And fell in love with it. And abused save states and the mine glitch heavily. But then this stage happened and I had to put it down for a bit (I've since beaten it and gotten awakening thanks for the intro to the series)
hahahaha, I think I spent 2 weeks restarting this level over and over to get it perfect and not lose any of the important characters. I couldnt get it done in that time, and I didnt wanna continue feeling underpowered for the rest of the game. I just quit at that point. I liked the game, but I hate having to deal with bullshit where your only options were to restart and try again and theres no way to prevent it.
The nice thing about Lyn's hard mode is that you can choose to leave Wallace unpromoted, but to get him you have to keep him alive against mobile Lloyd and it's a nightmare :P
I always try to get into Fire Emblem 7... but after I turn the game on I say... Oh shit there's that really hard luck based Jaffar and Zephiel mission... maybe later.
Don't worry, on Eliwood's Normal mode, (which you have to play through first) I beat it without too much trouble, in fact in ENM, Jaffar just kills half the map, including the miniboss.
I'm making a romhack of fe7 that's basically a rebalance. Every chapter I've altered has had the difficulty increased a bit to compensate. EXCEPT BATTLE BEFORE DAWN. I raised Zephiel's hp and res, put pillars on Nino and Jaffar's starting positions, and gave Nino a unique tome that doesn't weigh her down. And I'm not sure if that's enough! EDIT: The hack also increases bow ranges to 2-3 (2-6 for Longbows), and the thieves now drop their last item. A well trained archer can pick off the thieves once they grab an item with this buff. EDIT 2: On Eliwood mode, Maxime will reach Jaffar first. Knowing this, I gave him a Silver Axe on Eliwood Normal.
whoisthisgit Thank god the game is quite challenging, Chapter 17 was also quite bad, That boss was impossible to hit. Also long time fan of your channel.
DemonDragon43 Chapter 25 is where I had to change Hard Classic to Hard Casual. That bit with the Master of Arms and the Ninjas on the right was pure bullshit. I really dread to think what it'll be like on Lunatic.
An rescue mission. A weak charachter to protect. Easy ways to lose 2 new charachters. A boss with huge range in magic. A rescue staff in a chest deep in the castle to patronize you. Powerful enemies..might be a bit too powerful. Your saving the future scourge of Elibe. So everyone, tell me.. Are you afraid to die?
It's really funny how opinions can vary. This is easily one of my favourite chapters in the game. That being said, I've never played on HHM so I always appreciated the extra difficulty. Your arguments are well founded, if I ever play HHM I will probably hate it just as much
"Got a *Boots*" Am I the only one to find something wrong with that? But yeah, when I played this normally, this took me forever to beat. Maybe it's because I suck a bit on Fire Emblem, but who knows! >.
I'd argue that Ursula is a lot harder in eliwood mode, due to her placement. Sure, nino can't get killed by her here, but jaffar may wander into her range, and her bolting tome will have any unit trying to rescue zeph in the line of fire at least once, perhaps even twice in you're taking the left path.
Hod I want to play this game, I get I'm watching a video about one of the negative aspects, but it still looks so good. I only have Awakening and Fates under my belt, and though I like both, I want to play some of the older games.
In eliwood mode, she is on the other side in a amazing position to snipe your units. (I believe she's right under the stairs) When your cavalry is rushing to rescue zeph, you have to deal with bolting at least TWICE. One hit is usually enough to whittle your unit down to be killed by the foot soldiers. For me, I lost my Raven and had to deal with it.
Battle Before Dawn was the ultimate troll map. All the difficulty, luck based success, and escorting through the fog with a long range boss, JUST TO SAVE A CHARACTER WE KNOW WILL BE THE VILLAIN!!!!
If i be the player
Me: perfect now we rescue jaffar and nino
Eliwood: what about zephiel?
Me: believe me you better let the black fang kill him this is the only time i i allowed the black fang kill someonea so let's get out here
this is beyond trolling, this is sadomasochism because somebody had to play this
Battle before dawn wasn’t that bad personally. It was the very level after.
Hear me out.
First of all, I played FE7 before 6, so I didn’t know Zephiel will be the villian, second, I just stayed in place and didn’t care for much beyond that, third, I didn’t care about getting Jaffar and Nino, which I now regret.

Why does being evil automatically make people incredibly strong and powerful beings in these games? The dudes completely consumed by evil are practically gods. To be fair, there actually is a very. VERY small hint that you need to level up Nils. During the tutorial, it tells you to "Level up Nils and increase his skill.", something it doesn't say about any other character. Granted, it doesn't really help much, but it's at least a clue, useless as it is.
If you've played other Fire Emblem games and don't know, you'll still probably do that just to get Serra up two levels.
That's true. But I didn't know about the level 7 thing until after I cleared 19x on Hector's Tale. Upon reaching chapter 21, I realized that Nils was level 6! What I indeed needed was a strategy guide (or the internet). ;)

You need to stop apologizing for using cheats to remove fog of war. It's the easiest way for us to understand how bullshit a level is.

Saltyoven The Gaiden Chapters didn't even exist in FE1 OR FE3 Book 1. Only in FE11.
***** whatever, but still You got to admit that's bullshit
24:55 the moment you don't have a gameboy anymore lol
Tell me...
Are you afraid to lose your GameBoy?
I just got into Fire Emblem recently and its funny seeing the nearly 20 years of despair this game has caused from the first forums in 2004 to now.

11:17 That's interesting that a main story chapter can be altered like that. I thankfully seem to have gotten the 2nd version of this chapter. I hate fog of war levels so the Lloyd version would have been awful for me.
My strategy for this chapter
Legault, Sain, Florina to the right
Everyone else to the left.
Florina rescues Jaffar and flees
Lyn talks to Nino
Farina rescues Nino and flees
Brings them into the hallway that connects the east and west side above Zephiel's room
Drop Jaffar
Drop Nino
Talk next turn
And I'm gonna take a wild guess and say:
Rebecca/Wil
Guy
Heath
Dorcas
Corrin The Ship Lord
Rebecca i think... i know Wil is alive so it must've been her.
*****
I finally beat it about a week ago and it was really good. hopefully my time with it was enough to get me prepared for fates. it's cool to know that Roy is Eliwoods' son too. i wonder if Ike is Hectors' grandson or something. with the last level, man... they rekt me hard for a little bit there, and with the final boss, i had to lure his little buds out to make sure i didn't take on all 3 at once. sadly... a few people died on the last level, but i didn't mind too much since it was the FINAL chapter with no endgame bonus stuff or anything. but man, the old magician guy Athos, he was so OP it wasn't even funny. to beat the dragon at the end, i had to have Nils and a healer looping to heal the guy every time he got hit so he could take on the dragon alone. that thing had like 150 hp.
Actually you can get a Wyrmslayer before Arcadia, but you have to preserve it for several chapters

@@MasterKnightDH What the fuck?
If a word was invented to fully describe Git's feelings for this chapter it would be outlawed in 67 countries for its intensity.
26:00 If there’s ever an FE6 remake, I so want Hector to say something like “So… this is how… you repay the man… who once save your life…”.
Intelligent Systems joke: "Remember that Magic Sword-wielding badass almost-final boss from Binding Blade? Let's make him a weakling and force the player to suffer protecting him!
Jaffar litterally destroyed maxime without getting hit at the start of the level lol
that was my Jaffar, he was like, nope, not dealing with you
He only targets him in Eliwood mode because the placement is different
Yeah but Maxine has coked up HHM bonuses
Ursula: Tell me, are you afraid of seath?
Also Ursula: **Completely misses powerful attack to the mounted unit, and got obliretated by same mounted unit**
Yes, he/she's so afraid of death, you can't even land a hit on them tho
What's hilarious is that if Zephiel was smart enough to have a killing edge or iron sword, Ursula wouldn't one-round him.
And Jaffar and Nino are two of the best units in the game if you train them so you're gonna want to recruit them.
Giving Boots to a mounted unit increases movement by 2.. huh.. picturing a horse wearing boots now.
What about Wyverns/Pegasi?
"avoid the lloyd"
***** Still, I rarely ever hear people call Thracia 776 the best FE game. I even rarely hear people mention it.

Pent literally soloed the entire map and I had to reset several times to get the Gaiden chapter
It's easy in normal mode but getting that side quest as well as all the hidden items is annoying
is that the hard version ? because in the normal version its almost impossible for him to get hit (almost= Maxime)
For the living legend side quest I kept on using the barrier staff XD
***** when i first played that chapter jaffar literally dodged everything and the hardest challenge for me was to get Nino to talk to Jaffar before the chapter ended
Daoriond I just let Nino deal with the Heroes, since they usually almost suicide on Priscilla, then Nino can kill them.
Ha.
Fire Emblem Fates Conquest would like to have a word with you.
+Xeruon I feel like every chapter in Conquest was a gimmick chapter, it's annoying in the completely opposite way that Awakening's straightforward chapters were annoying.
***** just played that game, still wasn't enough. there needs to be more secret chapters that only gets unlocked during specific conditions
Here's my strategy for this level:
1. Leave both Merlinus and a staff user with a high enough staff rank to use the Rescue staff at the start.
2. Either split up or go with you entire army to Nino's side. (Get a thief or someone with a chest key on Nino's side, too.)
3. Get the Rescue staff from the chest. (Make sure the character that gets the staff has full inventory for you to send it to Merlinus.)
4. Send it to Merlinus.
5. Give the Rescue staff from Merlinus to your staff user. (It'll be easier to do this when he promotes and gets a wagon, since you can leave him anywhere.)
To be honest, this was just a theory.
I've had to restart that chapter multiple times because of stuff I had no way of accounting for happening:
- Needing to send a Laguz unit towards the myrmidon to recruit him isn't that hard to figure out, but by the time the dialogue that even makes you aware he exists pops up, your Laguz could be halfway across the map.
+]-)ΣΔ†]-[ for me it was quite easy in normal mode the hardest thing i had to do was get nino to talk to jaffar before the turn limit ended
joao neto
That also happened to me too. Except the first time he was unlucky and was killed, so I restarted because I really wanted him on my team. And damn was he worth getting. Killed the dragon with his silencer move. Jaffar is my all time favorite unit.
him and nino are probably my favorite side units (units who arent from lyn s tale or from pherae)
joao neto
Side units? I make them my main units because they're just too good.
i meant in character not like in gameplay unit
i meant personality wise
(in all honesty, though, I had more trouble with the Lloyd version of "Four-Fanged Offense", but this is a close second in my book)
who said he killed Guy, Rath, and Lyn?
*****
In FE6, he invades Sacae and practically wipes out the Kutolah tribe, leaving only a handful of survivors.
*****
Hmm....good point.
AsterOrca Dorcus, Oswin, Harken, and MANY more. Plenty of people have unknown fate
I agree... you were too light on that level. A real kick to the nads.
i really like that chapter but i do agree its hard version is really annoyng (on the normal dificulty its way easier )
+Mark Torres in my first playthought canas got rng screwed and killed on the same chapter i promoted him in :(
that fucking "rescue" staff oh god
It's such a troll. You can tell the devs had fun with that.
Man. This is nothing compared to 'Sophia and The Legendary Weapon Rescue' chapter in FE6. That's like a whole new level of worst compared to this one. Ugh
I actually prefer to split the Group in two. Therefore can I cover more ground and move faster for both.
That wimpy kid Zephiel eventually wrecked so much shit.
I have to say, I'm wondering if this chapter was so unbearably frustrating, is it because the dev were so over the game with hard mode that they said "lol what if if we made the players never play again so we don't have to finish it". Because really, this chapter throw everything at you in such a rapid fire that not getting whiplash from it is impossible
All of that for rescuing ZEPHIEL. Especially if you played FE6, this is just a salted blade that is shoved in your wound lol
The sheer amount of hidden content I missed from my playthrough of FE 7 scares me.... I came for the nostalgia damnit, not to get anxiety!
I saw the thumbnail and knew what it would be
I had to retry Battle Before Dawn 5 times because of the RNG. There's nothing worse than having a game over because of something beyond your control.
Fuck. That. Map.
Have fun. Probably won't make you want to break whatever you're playing it on at all.
"Arcadia", right? *shudders* Yeah, check out Git's 13th 'worst levels ever' for that train wreck of a FE chapter.
You forgot to mention DRAGONS!!!
I was playing it completely blind (minus looking up where the treasure is, of course) when I came across this chapter and my only 2 promoted units are both mounted... uh, yeah. I swear if I knew about this level I would have given Saul my so-far-only Guiding Ring instead of Clarine >_>
But I even almost managed the level on my first run somehow!
You know a level is really bad, if you absolutely have to enable a cheat, in order to stand a chance to win
Im pretty sure it was used to show how BS the level is.
But the level is still completable without cheats.
1) Nino dies because she's so WEAK
2) That paladin with the silver lance actually hits Jaffar, so he dies.
3) I accidentally went too close Ursula, so her Bolting got mee.
PKSlowpoke the first time I played I didn't know Ursula had bolting so nino died after talking to jafar
12Metatron Moments like that happen to me all the time XD
After several tries, I eventually I managed to save Nino, but Jaffar ended up dying anyway. I still hated him for killing Leina (the Ostian spy who Jaffar kills several chapters back), plus the chapter was so fucking frustrating, I just let him die. Meh.
Wishyut Pitawanik jaffar is so badass tho. also that means you missed the secret chapter for letting both survive where you kill sonia
I did. I watched it online later and felt bad about myself. Nino is so fucking badass in that chapter.
Don't worry. The mission only becomes a luck based thing on Hector's Hard Mode. In normal mode it's quite passable.
Don't worry, on Eliwood's Normal mode, (which you have to play through first) I beat it without too much trouble, in fact in ENM, Jaffar just kills half the map, including the miniboss.
ew275x use emulators, save states, and maybe cheats.
Mr. ShinyUmbreon i actually didn't know the miniboss existed because of ENM. :)
Is it as bad as conquest chapter 10 hard mode?
I finished that chapter first try, but it was a close thing. I dread to think what it'll be like on Lunatic mode.
whoisthisgit Thank god the game is quite challenging, Chapter 17 was also quite bad, That boss was impossible to hit. Also long time fan of your channel.
Chapter 10 of Conquest Lunatic is a cakewalk. Chapter 25 of Conquest Lunatic is the worst chapter in the series, imo.
DemonDragon43
Chapter 25 is where I had to change Hard Classic to Hard Casual. That bit with the Master of Arms and the Ninjas on the right was pure bullshit. I really dread to think what it'll be like on Lunatic.

It's really funny how opinions can vary. This is easily one of my favourite chapters in the game. That being said, I've never played on HHM so I always appreciated the extra difficulty. Your arguments are well founded, if I ever play HHM I will probably hate it just as much
"Got a *Boots*"
Am I the only one to find something wrong with that?
But yeah, when I played this normally, this took me forever to beat. Maybe it's because I suck a bit on Fire Emblem, but who knows!
