Eventually, you unlock rooms to complete quest and craft equipment, which expand the gameplay even further.
There is a Tabletop version of this game that was much better than I expected. It has really cool clear overlay cards that let you add monsters to your rooms.
I've played quite a bit of this game. It was a lot more fun than I was expecting. My favorite mechanic is sending your survivors out into the wasteland and then when they return they have a trove full of treasure; caps, weapons, armor, and crafting items, sometimes even pets!
I need to keep playing a little longer, then, as the people I sent out never came back! :)
I would love for you to expand on achievements in board games as motivators. I have been writing about how they offer alternatives to linear victory conditions and perhaps open the way to multi-victor outcomes
Multi-victor outcomes have been on my mind a lot lately, so I'll think about this more. As for achievements, I'm particularly intrigued by achievements that make thematic sense--something to work towards that gives you several types of payoffs when complete.
When I saw the title I thought it would be a video about the board game version. Would be interesting to hear your take on it if you play it. I usually only hear people complain about it being a bit too light or having too little variety and hoping for an expansion.
I'm definitely curious about the tabletop version after playing the digital version. :)
I thought this was going to be about the board game. Still interesting though.
I love games with this side profile view, not sure if there is a name for it, in video and board games. It feels more immersive to me. Also, imagine your wasteland is much like the crossroads cards in dead winter just in a much fun and less harmful way :)
I like that perspective too!
