Lexus CPO is probably best way to go and best value. I know someone last year who bought a 2017 ES 350 this way. Fully loaded. 15k, $25,000. First two or maybe four services included? Extended warranty. Luxurious and reliable, still relatively new, but not expensive.

You are spot on with your assessment. I like having a "fun car" and an SUV. Back in 2020, I purchased a low mileage 2016 (lease turn-in) Lexus RX350 (Luxury package) being sold at a Lexus Dealership as a CPO. Fair price after much haggling, I did a trade in plus cash, so I didn't have a payment. In hindsight, this RX has been one of the best, most reliable, comfortable and boring vehicles I've ever owned. It's still like brand new in 2024, with nearly 61K miles on it. I will probably keep it until the wheels fall off.

Compared to German cars, they lack the performance. As in, day and night... Which I guess creates reliability, and is fine in many cases. Their cars are heavy and underpowered compared to the competition. I say that as someone who really likes Lexus. Their cars are beautiful, well made, and extremely comfortable. I did a test drive of the RX and it was smooth like butter, the sound system was excellent too. The car was pretty damn slow though. I'm thinking that if I had another car, less practical, small and fast, that's fun to drive, then the RX could be great as a road trip / daily driver. But it certainly doesn't have everything, it strongly compromises by being sluggish... The ES 350 is a bit more lively, but doesn't come with AWD (I live in the North) and the ground clearance is a bit borderline anyway... I tried the ES250 AWD but while it's nice, it's still a 4 cyl and a bit slow too...

@@MrTresto you can have good performance and still be reliable. Many fast Porsches, the LFA, etc have high performance and relatively good reliability as compared to the Italian supercars. But as for daily reliability a Lexus IS best because why risk a LFA or Porsche 911 being hit on your daily commute, perhaps by a uninsured or underinsured motorist when you can save them for the weekending.

I bought a 2010 350RX Black Pearl and black leather interior and Lexus Chrome wheels. At the time of purchase the RX had 98000 miles and currently has a 116000. I just drove a friend's 2019 RX and I have to say I like the way mine drives better. At the gas station people walk up and comment on how grand the car looks. What kind of problems have I had absolutely none. I also have a 2009 ES350 with a 110000 miles and it is the smoothest driving car I have ever driven and problem free. Just added a 2010 Prius 5 To drive back-and-forth to work at 52 miles per gallon and totally comfortable. When I look at maintenance compared to my sister's newer large Mercedes S UV, My maintenance cost for all 3 cars is what she is paying for one.

I recently purchased a 2015 Lexus ES 350 (luxury, premium pkg) with around 166k miles on it that was selling at $14k. Honestly I didn’t mind paying the money for a vehicle I know can last me to 300k miles if not longer since the majority of my driving is highway miles and what’s been put on it already obviously are highway miles as well. Honestly this car feels very well put together and there is a certain feeling of prestige that Lexus products have that I haven’t felt in other vehicles maybe with the exception of my 2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring (Premium package).

Drove a Toyota for years and was always impressed with the mechanical quality. A hail storm destroyed my Camry and I’m looking for another one stumbled across a Lexus ES 350 at a reasonable price.
I knew that the underpinnings were Toyota and saw the mechanical quality was there.
But I was amazed to discover the amount of difference in ride quality between the Lexus and the Toyota. Both ride itself and the interior noise as well as the fit and finish of the Lexus are far superior. It is well worth the price difference, especially if you plan on driving them until they are dust as I do. Lol

Son used it and got hit and the car was totaled. Insurance payout enabled me to buy a 2010 50k miles ES350. Wife, who had a 2017 Platinum Explored drove the Lexus a few times and traded her Explorer in for a 2018 ES350. There really is nothing I can nitpick on these cars, very solid, dependable and quite nice IMO.

Everything is perfect on the Rx and the Es has just a few issues, these issues being the "chrome" around the door controls has began to wear off and the passenger seat in particular has cracked and split terribly for some reason? Beyond those things they are incredicly reliable, comfortable and luxurious day in and day out!! keeping these till they die. So maybe 10 more years!? haha

My “fleet“ of vehicles includes the following:
1..A 1985 Ford F-150. It either has 139,000 miles, or 239,000 miles on it. I really don’t know which because I bought it after the original owner died in 2014.
It still starts and runs, uses no oil, and shifts smoothly.
    2. A 1991 Ford mustang “fox body“ convertible. It has 197,000 miles on it and is used primarily on weekends in nice weather. Uses no oil and transmission shift smoothly.
    3. A 2005 Chevy Tahoe, now approaching 200,000 miles. Runs perfectly and ship smoothly; never did anything on it except routine maintenance.
    4. A 2007 Lexus ES 350 with 184,000 miles. This one is definitely in a special category; I fully expected to go at least 300,000 and possibly 400,000 miles.
The total value of all these vehicles is far less than the cost of one of the cheapest new models of any of them. I, or my local mechanic, can do all of the maintenance; parts are readily available and a few “hi Tek“ scan tools are necessary.

The car started hesitating, which would not have been good when driving him to the ER at 2 am. My auto mechanic road tested it and stated it ran fine, but I decided to sell "her"..for $4,000. Someone got a GREAT deal..since then, I've had 2 ES's and 2 RC '300's...Love them...and I've leased all the cars, except the '92 SC-300.. I'd like to know how you rate the RC's...I have always gotten compliments..My favorite color was the Mica Red, but none were available, so I leased a pearly-white..My Lexus dealership gave me a VERY nice deal to purchase my 2017 RC -300. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the ES and RX. Neither of those cars is all that interesting to me, but I'd prob look at an ES first. One of the other principles in getting a good car for the money is buying what the majority of people DON'T want. People want the little SUVs, thus they are off the table for me, and I think they are less desirable than traditional cars anyway. People's desire for the SUVs makes the sedans more affordable.
I went whole hog and bought an 07 LS 460L and am very happy with it. I had all the typical problems. Control arms were replaced before I bought it. Air suspension went out, and I watched your vid on it, and replaced the struts myself with the kit you used. Alternator fried itself, caused some weird errors, but it was replaced at a surprisingly reasonable cost of ~$400 by my mechanic. The car does tend to eat up brakes, as heavy cars do. But I bought the car 4 years ago with 95k miles and have put 45k miles on it. The joy of driving a top of the line auto has far outweighed any issues I've had. The quiet, the stereo, the comfort, the whole package has been a joy.
A guy does roll the dice when buying a used car from a private party, and there is no insurance buying this way, but there's a reason insurance or finance companies make big money -- most of the time, insurance isn't needed. So I will take my $15 or $20k or whatever I want to spend, shop for another used car someday, and do my best to buy it right. The less paperwork the better. It really is surprising how much car can still be bought for relatively small money.
You have $5k? Buy a Prius. You have 10k? Buy an ES. You need a truckster? Buy a 4Runner, even at their inflated values, they'll run a long time. You want a sports car? Don't buy a Lexus. No matter F-sport this or bleah bleah that, it ain't a sports car. Buy a C5 Corvette that no one wants and drive the wheels off.
So ends my diatribe. Your vid on replacing the air suspension on the LS460 really helped me out, and I wouldn't be as happy today without your help. Thanks much, and I'll keep watching to get more opinions and ideas.

Bought a 2015 RX350 in Spring 2020 for $22k with 65k miles. It's the beginning of 2022 and it has 80k miles. I could probably sell it for a profit at this point, but I plan to keep it until it can't go anymore!

Purchase a 2016 rx350 no accidents, 1 owner, 100,000 Super clean. Miles a lil high, but cheapest nationwide

I put 65,000 miles a year on my 2007 ES350 the only thing that bothers me is the drivers side cockpit is to narrow. My right knee presses into the consul the passenger side is plenty wide. Other then that it is a luxury hot rod.

Hardly any 1st and 2nd generation lexus cars for sale in the GTA Toronto anymore and if you find one with decent mileage the prices are high. My 95 GS is extremely rare now and is only driven in the Spring/Summer. The car is still in great shape eventhough I lost the amp this summer.

Great video. Just what I was looking for. I'm helping a single mom by her next Mom mobile. The RX seems to be the way to go
