    Although J. Warner seldom says much about his personal testimony, he gets asked about it all the time. Did the evidence persuade you, or were their people in your life who led you to Jesus? In this clip from J. Warner Wallace’s longer talk on the existence of God from the fine-tuning of the universe (based on his book, God’s Crime Scene), J. Warner provides a brief description.

    I was a Muslim that had an experience with Jesus and then I became a follower of Christ. Not in a vacuum. During my process of conversion, a question came to my mind: “What will I tell my parents?” Somebody had given me a Bible prior to my conversion. I opened it and it happened to fall open to Matthew chapter 10. My eyes fell on verse 37: “Anyone who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me.” My faith in Jesus as Messiah is not based entirely on experience but experience was a huge part of it. Prior to the experience, they had piled a huge pile of evidence before me and I didn’t care. My experience with Jesus changed everything.

      I agree, and the longer I live the more I realize it was God who called me, through experiences He allowed, and praise Him, I responded. I pray He calls others and they respond. How much of our salvation is His work in us (I'd say it all is), and how much is us seeking Him (I'm inclined to say 0% because as fallen sinners we are in rebellion), is what I'm figuring out.

      Indeed Zahir....
      Wallace's methodology and contributions are important, significant and and necessarily thoughtful... However they are too reliant on contingent reasoning alone (which is an extension of where a percentage or proportionality of "the regenerate" are connected to... But when metaphysical and transcendent realities are in place wallace's methodology is the opposite of such reality... For it is inference to possible or even best possible scenarios... but is is not experientially grounded with tandem comportment that corroborates the necessity of initiation and succession that can only come "with" contingent reasoning and when it is primarily the connection to belief... then whatever comes along that personally comports even reasonably better... will take precedence to one's self-wrought faith... because it's *not* "just that simple*. And this is definitively overturned in the Scripture even though without question comportment to reality can and will have alignment to such contingent comportment... But by that reasoning Wallace would actually be more clever discerning or intuitive than those who did not believe based upon processes of rationale and reason....
      This as well as other apologetics like it... cannot stand alone as the foundation of belief.
      To compare the two most simplistic responses from 'childhood implication of growing up in the church" or some 'supernatural experience'... Demonstrates that faith is not that simplistic and people who hold to that should be very concerned indeed frightened by their lack of understanding or experience. One doesn't need to get very far into mormonism. studying to realize its complete inversion of biblical, theological, and philosophical comportment that it is woven into. so to compare that to mormon belief is pedophiling the issue and actually not helpful other than to promote his methodology which is important and useful but there are holes in "true belief" (veracity) and the the connection in tandem of saving belief versus differentiation of ascent belief.
      This is the definition of self-wrought xbootstrap" faith and it does not account for but rather dismisses the "noetic effect" of the fall in reasoning.
      This is not to detract from his content and methodology but it is not the whole story and indeed incomplete that is as responsible for many people ..."doubting" in a proportionality of responsibility for involving people's cognitive faculties.
      This is the epitome of humanistic Christianity..(whether unintentional or not).
      Indeed there are sincere individuals of intellectual capability that would refute wallace's perspective with as much success as he has in defending it....
      Your comment provided much insight...
      Blessings

    I WAS raised in a Christian home, but that didn't stop me from just going through the motions to please my parents, Sunday School teachers, pastors, etc. I was 36 or so when God got through to me about my spiritual condition. I was saved then, but it was when I learned about people like Lee Stroebel and you that my faith was grounded further. Between the two of you, I was assured that Christianity - as Jesus taught it - was TRUE.

    I wasn’t raised in any religion growing up, as my family were agnostic. I had a vivid experience with a demon that eventually would bring me to Christ Jesus.
    I understand this contradicts your experience, but had this not occurred, I don’t know that I would have ever picked up a Bible.

      Detective Wallace has a viewpoint based on his job so he approached Christianity from his viewpoint and found Jesus. You have a different viewpoint so you found Jesus by coming from a different direction. .

      I think the crux of what he said is that while powerful sermons, or experiences, or testimonies often initially lead people to faith in Jesus, each of those things is not in itself a solid foundation for enduring faith, and each of them is in vain unless it's true that Jesus really did rise from the dead.

    It's very encouraging hearing how Mr. Wallace came to faith. Although many of us came to know Christ in a more experiential way initially, the longer we investigate Christianity, the more the truth of it shapes and develops our beliefs in an intellectual manner. Glory be to God!

    People fall from faith for several reasons, and my list by all means not conclusive. First, they likely never repented, and came to know God incompletely, as in "God loves me" and this is as far as their theology goes. And then when they are faced with having to choose God or sin, they choose sin. Another reason I can think of is they choose not to carry their cross, and bailed. The walk with God is not easy.

      How about getting it straight from Jesus?
      Matthew 13
      The Parable of the Sower
      13 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop-a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
      10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
      11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:
      “Though seeing, they do not see;
      though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
      14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
      “‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
      you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
      15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
      they hardly hear with their ears,
      and they have closed their eyes.
      Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
      hear with their ears,
      understand with their hearts
      and turn, and I would heal them.’[a]
      16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
      18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

    I'm with you. What is of utmost importance is the Truth of the Gospel. Personal experiences are inspiring, but it's not about experiences and feelings. It is about Truth. There has been an emphasis for a long time on the date and testimony of your conversion. That was not the emphasis of the apostles. Experience/feelings is a big part of fake temporary conversions too; the parable of the seed on different types of soil. Solid faith is based on God's Word, not feelings.

    I love how God meets everyone where he/she is. For some, that's irrefutable evidence, for others, an undeniable personal experience. Nevertheless, we should all be well equipped to answer the many objections that come against our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ because the gospel is TRUE and not merely based on feelings, experience or being brought up in church. There are enough false claims based on feelings and experience, and as J Warner rightly says, "It doesn't have to be true for it to be useful." Many would open their own books of 'evidence' as to why we evolved and why there is no God and some will even leave the faith after having believed for many years or fall into error that could cause many weak ones to stumble. We cannot afford to be fickle regarding the ONE thing that determines our eternal destiny and in which our ONLY hope lies.

    Intellectual friend who lived by what he perceived as truth who ran off and jumped into the Catholic churches because of the issues that he saw in the Pentecostal and charismatic and other denominational churches because if wokism only to follow after a woke pope. He exchanged the truth for a lie because he thought he would find more security in what he saw as a verifiable church stemming from original apostles rather than living by experience of the Holy Spirit and pressing into God in such difficult times to be guided by His Spirit and trust in Him alone and His abiding presence. He is trustworthy!

    We should listen to what this guy is saying. So many claim a personal testimony or religious experience that it is worthless.
    All these "Christians" who have received their testimony; had their experience; had their encounter; had their prayers answered etc come from so many different denominations or sects - believe in very different things - and often believe that they have truth on their side and the others are false; deluded; cults or the work of Satan.
    Here is a suggestion. Why not try to actually read and understand the source documents and derive your beliefs from them rather than impose pre-existing beliefs on the source documents.

    • @abcd-ss9rh
      @abcd-ss9rh 3 года назад +1

      Reading the originals (Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic) is a good idea, but you need to take into account with humbleness that your mind can be deceived as to the real meaning behind it. And if you become prideful and say "I know the truth and others are wrong" then it can end badly. God doesn't like pride and it is His will, not your intellectual effort, that will decide whether you understand the source correctly. Best to ask in prayer for God to give you wisdom to understand the Bible correctly and not to completely ignore and disrespect in pride what other people have been given as to the meanings.
      God can allow the warping of your understanding in order to eg. break the pride. It is clearly written that God doesn't always want people to understand, see or hear.

    How I wish that the average Christin would catch the reality of what he is saying! I must vouch for what he is saying! I am an ex-Mormon! Now, a born again Christian & Pastor. The average Christian today can not defend his own faith any differently than a Mormon does theirs. They have a very lazy faith.
