    This video dramatically improved my irons accuracy. I was lifting the club, rather than rotating. Once I used Rick's technique, I started hitting the shots with more loft, straighter, and with more power. I keep coming back to get honed, with the video. Thanks, Rick!

    Hi Rick-- this video single-handedly changed my season. I picked up the game last year and finished the year (in a snowstorm) with a 99. I was elated! My goal was to break 90 this year, and I couldn't get any closer than 94 due to inconsistent ball-striking. But today, implementing primarily the key ideas of turning hips/shoulders at the same time, and getting a little bit of wrist set, to hit confident approach irons and ended up hitting the green from 100-160 yards on almost every single hole. I ended with an 86, and I couldn't be happier. Thanks so much for simplifying the swing so that I could focus on just 2 swing thoughts and trust my swing!

    First I just want to give a "shout out" to Rick for these lessons. They are invaluable and literally saved the game of golf for me. Secondly I want to comment that each of the specifics mentioned in this video are quite important. (You can't really skip any of them without having your swing suffer as a result) And finally, "setting the wrist" seems to be very central in getting your backswing to have the right shape. I start the clubhead motion by slightly starting to move the hips, and then within just a few inches go right into "setting the wrist" in a very deliberate fashion. If you wait too long before adjusting your wrists it's going to put several kinks in the shape of your backswing. (And your downswing can't be any better than your backswing was). Just wanted to pass this along - much gratitude.

    Rick you saved my golf game! I've been playing for 15 years I'm a 10 handicap last year I developed a mean draw/hook I could not figure out what I was doing wrong. I watched this series of videos and your video on how to stop the hook. I was practicing in my living room and I couldn't believe what I was doing wrong. My grip was terrible and I had little to no hinge in my swing and I wasn't coming around enough and I wasn't unwinding properly. I went out to the range today and I couldn't believe the change I actually was starting to hit a light fade and in the process my ball speed jumped up 12mph. I can't wait for the season to start now. You have no idea how excited I am. Thank you so much!

    Unbelievably helpful! I've played for a few years now with multiple lessons and no one ever mentioned the slight wrist hinge. I was always either too around or too steep pulling up with the hands.

    Forever grateful to Rick.

    Superior instruction - these videos have really helped me. What isn't covered in this particular video (but has been in another of Rick's videos), is the club head rotation on the backswing. I had an epiphany at the driving range yesterday, and realized I was unconsciously trying to keep the club-head square to the ball on the backswing! After realizing this, I relaxed my wrists, or I guess my arms rather (rotation axis only) and allowed the club-head to rotate as I drew back, and every shot was cleanly struck on the downswing - and a massive increase in distance. Effortless swings are now possible for me. Thank you Rick for your excellent instructional videos!

      Totally disagree. He doesn't elaborate on the ideal wrist angle at certain positions during the back-swing, which would give golfers valuable help during this complex movement. What angle should the forearms and the ground and the wrists and the forearms form when the club shaft is perfectly vertical? What about when the club shaft is parallel to the ground, earlier in the back-swing? 'Ever so slightly' (which looked like almost 90 degrees) doesn't really help. I also really dislike the cylinder analogy towards the end. Weight transfer is super important, he makes it sound like you shouldn't shift your weight at all. That's just plain wrong, and will severely limit your distances.

    • @Brandon-yf3tz
      @Brandon-yf3tz 5 лет назад

      TheUrbanEpicure pretty much everything you asked isn’t really that relevant. There isn’t a one size fits all answer. And if you think about all those things during a swing it probably won’t go well. What he’s doing is giving more of a feeling. You want to turn, but need to hinge a little to start as well to avoid my most common mistake (pulling the club inside). His cylinder reference isn’t that bad either. Notice the visual is larger than his shoulder width, giving room for some lateral movement. You can move off the ball but you still want to feel tall and centered/balanced. Great advice for the average player. And actually quite useful for a scratch golfer like myself who tends to fall back into bad habits

    • @TheUrbanEpicure
      @TheUrbanEpicure 5 лет назад

      Nonsense. Of course there is a one-size-fits-all approach - there is a CORRECT way to do it. And of course you shouldn't think about this during the swing, you're supposed to build muscle memory and do it right automatically.
      Useless video, omitting the most important aspects.

    Thanks for these videos... I’ve been teaching a friend (friend 1) to golf & he’s been making remarkable steps quickly..l
    Then another friend (friend 2) comes along & after hearing how great friend 1 is doing, friend 2 decides he can’t be outshined from the teaching angle & starts taking friend 1 out to teach, and literally dismantling every single thing I’ve taught friend 1. Now friend 1 is hitting like Helen Keller & getting more frustrated.
    exactly what I’ve taught him is in your videos, including how awkward the golf stance/grip/swing seems at first, but how simple it actually is when you get used to it.

    This helped me so much. The wrist set was the key for me. Hitting pure, far, and noticed I am not plowing big deep divots anymore. Thank you!

    Best explanation and demonstration I've seen so far of the backswing - thanks - i'll be watching more of your stuff!

    I've watched this and been to the range and practiced only once trying this, it's improved my ball striking already, after not being able to hit it properly, long way to go, but definitely changed my mindset on setting up, and swinging the club 👍

    I used to set my wrists at the top of the backswing. Shoulder and back pain have shortened my swing and I could no longer get to the point where the set of the wrist occurs. Setting early is a miracle. It is amazing how much higher and straighter my shots are now!

    I am an 11 handicap, but have been struggling for a few months... I have been feeling that I lost something in my swing. This series was a very nice way to get me back to basics and quit over thinking everything. I enjoy the channel, Keep up the great content!

    Sight wrist hinge in the backswing and pretending to keep the body in a cylinder are the most impactful tips I've ever got in golf
