Band: Starts song with drums.
Loudwire: Greatest drum intro of all time.
hahaha
RumpleGeist yep, pretty random, pretty lame.
Yeah , criminally insane was a horrible drum intro.
Yeah most of these were decent
For a better list check out Rick Beato top 20 drum intros
joey jordison’s eyeless intro definitely should have made this list considering what did make the list.
And Disasterpiece
Yess!!
Abso-fucking-lutely! I was waiting for Joey to pop up at any moment and he never did. So disappointed.
Yes dude slipknot's drums definitely deserve to be on this list somewhere. I'm also thinking system of a down chop suey?
Exactly my thoughts
Portnoy's intros are NUTS. I'm legitimately blown away by Mangini being able to go note for note with him.
I respect the shit out of Portnoy. But the second half of your comment is one of the reasons Mangini is my favorite drummer of all time. The guy literally may be the greatest drummer on the planet.
@@chrisbatt-throneofexile9567 you have to remember Portnoy created the parts Mangini plays them. Mangini is still great and one of my favorites but you can’t say he’s better at playing Portnoy’s parts than Portnoy and vice versa.
@@yeetfeet1878 it could be said one way or the other. I think Mangini is just a better drummer in general.
i personally prefer joey, not saying joey is more skilled but its just something about him.
@@Haplessnote9418 As in Jordison?
If I don’t see painkiller
No2
You did
Hey Zeus exactly
Best Drummer JP ever had
FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just came to see where Painkiller was

Territory by sepultura
You could be mine is good
Ausgebombt sodom
United Forces s.o.d.
Prisoner is so much better than wed. Your comment is agreed
Alex Van Halen is seriously a good drummer. Hot for teacher is actually impressive.
@Jurijn Hermans yeah lol
Taken from Simon Phillips' Space Boogie by Jeff Beck. He has good taste.
except it cant be played live....studio tricks!
@@laterallus9158 Yes it can. He plays hertas on a very deadened floor tom and a swung double bass pattern. There's a breakdown lesson of it on the channel Drumeo
@@laterallus9158 how so? He’s played it live, flawlessly
2:01 "grandfather!!" "cow fodder!" "grandfather" "cow fodder!"
"I AM THE ONION!!!!!"
😂😂😂 you killed me
Goddamnit 😂😂
Nailed it
Most people seems to miss the thing that a good drum intro is:
+The beginning of the song with only drums.
+Either simple or difficult. It doesn't matter, as long as...
+That drum intro is instantly recognizable and that intro puts you on the mood of the song.
This said, sure some drum intros are missing. This list isn't THAT BAD tough.
But not THAT GOOD.
Well with your description I think Nightwish - Ghost Love Score is an honorable mention. I would recognise that intro anywhere 😁Even though it's not only drums, the drums are so sticking to your head
But not that good since there were a lot of seriously iconic drum intros missing and some that were not as iconic that made the list
@@paradigmshiftz7 for example? I already aware some aren't really iconic, but I want to know
The first 5 for example are pretty good
Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” and Pink Floyd’s “Time” also have noteworthy drum intros.
Money for nothong is a vocal intro but is great 🔥
Good point, but technically the amazing drum part also introduces the song, it is followed by the electric guitar intro and the start of the song's verses.
I hate Pink Floyd lol
^ No one asked
@@juliangonzalez4038 poor boy
Instead of calling these "X greatest thing of all time!!" you should just call it a compilation.
Exactly, especially considering how subjective music is.
They're never even close to what my choices would be....
This is a video loaded by Loudwire, so these are the best X Things according to Loudwire
That would be a good idea, then they could just do multiple videos on the subject as "part 2, part 3, etc"
While it is better wording, it would not get as many clicks and therefore less money.
has hot for teacher as #1 and doesn't even play the good part of the drum intro lol
first time I heard that song, I thought they recorded a top fuel dragster's engine at idle and THEN kicked in the drums!
It is YOUR preference
Moron
It's because the dialogue from the video is placed over the good part
@@jeremielesne7715 buuut, there's better, don't be a dick just cuz mate
The lack of "Money For Nothing" hurts a lot
True
and "Cheap Trick - Ain't That A Shame - live Daytona 1988"
The drums came after 2 minutes. It probably goes to "greatest drum fills"
13 Steps To Nowhere by Pantera has such a kickass, groovy drum intro. Vinnie Paul was tragically underrated.
Yes bro!
Underrated yet
Mentioned aton on every metal community
Underrated indeed
how exactly is vinnie underrated?
came to the comments just to make sure this was in here somewhere
You know what is terrible underrated ? Saxon and iced earth , pantera i like them , but the last 3 albums , were ok and the metal scene was , with no competition
Some intros of morbid angel are so sweet 👍🏻✌🏻🤘🏻
>puts Iron Maiden on list
>forgets about Run to the Hills
K.
the drum intro is like less than ten seconds long, though?? the main riff comes in pretty quickly. unless it goes longer live, it's not really much of an intro.
Nah Where Eagles Dare is superior in pretty much all ways, especially the drum intro
Tony Goulart Where eagles dare>Run to the hills
As much as that song gets on my nerves through being overplayed... it is pretty iconic regardless
yeah I thought that was the song they will put on the top 3. I mean, when you hear the drums you know it's run to the hills...
Joey Jordison’s Eyeless intro? Mario Duplantier’s The Art Of Dying Intro?
Probably my favourite drum intros of all time, defo my two fav drummers tho
I came from the best rifts. I didnt see the whales.
I think the intro for The Art of Dying was on bamboo
Only pain intro hits different
Where is our heaviest matter of the universe
Scott Travis is criminally underrated. Painkiller is so iconic, but I always feel like Scott doesn't get enough credit.
Great call including Cozy Powell's Stargazer. It's often overlooked but is so smooth and has so much soul. Could have easily been one of Clyde Stubblefield's.
When The Levee Breaks is a far superior drum intro than Rock N' Roll
Yes
the problem with top anything drums is they can't just make a full bonham list.
agreed
It's also a better song IMO
Yes
"Down with the Sickness" was pretty iconic imho
That’s what I was thinking
yeah but Loudwire doesn’t know what they’re talking about
Exactly why tf wasn't it on there
Oh wa-a-a-ah, uh uh, uh uh
Hot for teacher 100% at the top
RIP Eddie
Song intro sounds like a 10,000HP drag racer ticking over!
I had the great honor of recording Scott Travis very early in his career back in 1985 at a studio in Virginia Beach VA. before he moved to Los Angeles. I knew he only needed a break to prove he was one of the greatest. He actually wanted to be the drummer for Judas Priest way back then \mXm/
Where's Territory by Sepultura?!
Yea i was hoping to see that
I was literally just listening to that song right before watching this song, what a coincidence
in tool's place
16
In the fucking slayer's place
Ticks and Leeches at TWELVE?! Are you high?!
"Must've been"
Ben Thies HIIIIIGHHHHH!
His eyesballs were deep in muddy waters :/
Exactly..
Nice
Watching Mike Portnoy nail that intro with seemingly no effort always gives me goosebumps. Sheeeshhh
richard christy is so criminally underrated as a drummer. his drumming on sound of perseverance is so damn good
6 O CLOCK ON A CHRISTMAS MORNING!!!
Who's with me?
DUDE!! I guess It's more difficult in a certain way, but Honor thy Father is technically superior
I always jam to 6:00 when I play it!!
Yes.. I am with you....6:00 would make a better one.. and put Mike at No.1.
The great debate ? 😄
1000% agree
Gojira - the art of dying
Danny Mousa my thoughts exactly.
Yes.
Cant get a better intro feel than the art of dying
Danny Mousa or this emptiness
While I prefer the art of dying as a whole song I would say the way of all flesh has a better drum intro
I was hoping Stargazer was in here, Awesome it even got in the Top 5. I love Cozy Powell.
Hell yeah bro, Cozy Powell, all day every day, we lost a truly great one...RIP Cozy Powell
@@stevenstrang3605 Exactly
I wish a gojira song was on here, the drumming intro to the way of all flesh is absolutely stunning.
If "greatest drum intro" means getting in the songs' mood, then "You Could Be Mine" should definitely be in the list.
Now that’s a great shout 😎Everyone banging on about that dead slip or not drummer, missing the real talent like G’nR.
0:10 damn I didn't know Mustaine did security for death..
Hahaha does look like him though
Title: top 15 best drum intros
My mind: painkiller?
I was angry that painkiller was at 2, then I realized what I had forgotten
_I was betting my left cheek I'd see The Art Of Dying from Gojira on this list._
Totaly agree but others have other feelings
f a x
Totally agreed! But I would also mention that the intro on “The Heaviest Matter of The Universe” is SICK
Pantera - 13 Steps to Nowhere
Faith No More - Midlife Crisis
Вот правильно говоришь, товарищ. )
13 Steps!!!! Yeah man
13! 13! 13! 13! Steps!
So surprised to see this comment but makes me so happy🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻13 steps is fucking dirty
Midlife crisis all the way
Glad you put Twisted Sister.
Tear it loose would've been more appropriate....
Slayer - Killing Fields (Paul Bostaph) is an amazing intro... leading into even more complex drumming within the body of the song... could be top of your next list!
Bass intros,please
Iron Maiden - Remember Tomorrow, The Clairvoyant
Johnny Lin Sea of Lies - Symphony X
N.I.B.!
around the world RHCP

"15 most popular drum intros" more like
Stargazer deserves it
not even most popular
I’m pretty sure death isn’t as big as aerosmith and they (sadly) wouldn’t even be in the list if it was most popular
I was wondering wtf twisted sister was doing on here lol
Mastodon is popular now?
I would also like to add “We Will Rock You”. So simple, yet great. It can get an arena full of people going “stomp, stomp, clap. Stomp, stomp, clap”. Which sounds awesome to hear live.
The worst drum part of history
Chris Turner from Oceans Ate Alaska is one of the best modern metalcore drummers. He is extremely fast and technical. It is so clean the way he plays it’s incredible
“When the Levee Breaks”
Good selection but failed to include Eyeless by Joey Jordison from Slipknot
That's a good choice! But a better choice would be (sic)!
Unfortunately it's not actually Joey, it's a sample of "Amen Brother" by the Winstons
no, after the sample, he starts playing. Here: ruclips.net/video/z4-EAK0VEV4/видео.html
Oh, and also this ruclips.net/video/dQw4w9WgXcQ/видео.html
Yes thank you
Shitknot
DT's best drum intro is for 6.00am
Yess
Yea it’s great but I do like honor thy father’s intro much better
@@dfrog3572 nah
Where is When The Levee Breaks? What a LOL list! 😂😂
Territory by Sepultura
this!
Cyka Blyat FOR SURE
You goddamn right, ive been all countdown hoping...is it 3? is it 2? is it 1?
when I saw the video I was like territory
Definitely
If this doesn’t have painkiller
Mmmmm yes
th3re4lslimsh4dy N° 2
th3re4lslimsh4dy • I was about to say that
It did
Alot of people aren't paying attention!
"drummer drops stick before song starts" loudwire "PERFECT"
Ones I would Have Included: "You Could Be Mine"(G 'n R), "Run to the Hills"/"Gangland" (Iron Maiden), "Eyeless" (Slipknot), "Down With the Sickness" (Disturbed)
Eyeless????????????
Ryan Heideman No :(
Slipknot's Vendetta also has a nice drum intro.
Ryan Heideman YES
Isn't that Sid on the turntables? Doesn't sound like drums to me
Jacob Sarvathayaparan at the start yes but at around 10 sec joey plays you can search up a video of him playing
Jacob Sarvathayaparan Sid is doing turntables while drums are playing and there is a little bit of guitar as we’ll but the drums steal the show. Good question
Ambitious list, I didn't expect Disturbed's "Down With The Sickness" to take all 15 spots though
it's still one of the best and should have been here though.
What’s this, a fantano video?
they never make any of Loudwire’s lists. proof that Loudwire almost always doesn’t know what they’re talking about
‘When The Levee Breaks’ and ‘Scentless Apprentice’ should be on here.
#15 is my faaaaaaaaavorite.
If Indians isn’t on here I probably won’t do anything cause there’s nothing I can do and I also respect people’s opinions
Garrett Praznik I was worried it wouldn’t be on here but I got to it just as I was reading your comment!
Wholesome comment
Surprise Suprise. It’s on here
That intro is massive
I think the art of dying should've been on this list for sure
An honorable mention
Mouth for War. RIP Dime and Vinnie
Solid list..... sooooooooo many more but it's your channel... no bad vibes in any way!
Over the Mountain is nowhere to be found? Ozzy Osbourne STARTED the ENTIRE album, Diary of a Madman with this amazing piece of drum work from the legendary Carmine Appice, and it set the tone for the entire set of songs compiled on that masterpiece of an album. Definitely in my top 5 drum intros of all time.
Is carmine related to vinny appice from sabbath?
@@britishnerd3919 They are brothers, to be sure, but I was incorrect. Lee Kerslake is the drummer on Over the Mountain. Carmine only played with Ozzy for a little while. Mea culpa. Dunno what I was thinking.
Lee Kerslake was definitely the drummer on Over the Mountain, my guy. 👍🏻
I didn’t realize you actually corrected yourself. I apologize. Lol
@@chrisbatt-throneofexile9567 what a sad loss, but at least he got his credit before he died
Pantera - 13 steps to nowhere
Fuck yes!!
One of my favorites
That intro sucked me right into that song and made it a fave.
thought about the same
Oh hell yeas
The fact that eyeless is not here is pure comedy 😂
sepultura's territory is my favorite.
PAIN.... PAIN.... KILLAA... KILLAA... PAIN...PAIN... KILAA....KILAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Ruben Lodewijk this. Is. The pain killah
HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa...... waste of 4 minutes that song is
PAIN KILAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sepultura-Territory
Trivium-Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr
King Diamond-Welcome Home
Death-Zero Tolerance
Deftones-Around The Fur
Around the Fuuuuuuuuuuuur Yes!
im so surprised they didnt do zero tolerance
Can't complain, list is perfect.
The intro to 'Light My Fire' by the Doors (1967). Bet most drummers today couldn't play it.
Painkiller should have been #1. Scott Travis is an absolute monster on the drums.
I'm absoloutly AGREE with you bro
I AGREE
Better than John Bonham?
agree
YES
Whoever made this was not a drummer
Not a vegan they don't need to be. all they know is it sounds awsome
Anyone could play number 14 after a fuckin half hour of practice
On point, MFDOTI
And thank God! Drummers wouldn’t know good music if it bit them on the ass
True
When "when the levee breaks" doesnt make it but another zep song does
Rock and roll at number 6? It should be number one at my opinion, it’s probably the most iconic drum intro.
What are the requirements? Start a song with drums and it's immediately the best drum intro of all time? A lot of these were so lame.
What would you have put (I agree that some of them didn’t deserve to be here but most of them are great)
@Jacob Hill lol, yep that seems to be the criteria for this list!!!
agreed only a couple actually lead into the rest of the piece. Most were just mini solos. to me that does not fit the definition of intro.
What about “song for the dead” of Queens of the stone age???
Joaquín Ortega Castellanos exactlyyyy Dave is a monster on that one
The only real drum intro is the hi hat clicking, the guitar does most of the intro.
I agree it’s underrated but doesn’t fit the list I think
THANK YOU.
I've been obsesed with that drum intro all day and i couldn't think of the name of the song.
You saved my life
4:15 the guy she tells you not to worry about
Addicted to Chaos deserves at least an honorable mention...Maybe not the fastest, but certainly memorable. Nick was an exceptional drummer...
1.- Make a list claiming "Greatest X of all time"
2.- Use popularity as the only criteria
3.- Get tons of interaction on your video when people slam you for not including lesser known but objectively more interesting drum intros
4.- Optional (in this case you went for it): Do never under any circumstance give any time in the spotlight to Power Metal bands (which happen to have a plethora of hype drum intros)
5 - make another top X list with genre included on the title based on the tons of interactions of the first video
6 - Make another list and so on... So you never have to work or think about producing any content.
Or like, anything new
No... Run to the Hills?
Jesus.
You just forgot St Anger...
At most 5 of those deserve to be on that list.
I'm surprised "Iron Man" wasn't on here.
Yeah
YES
That’s would be better on the best guitar intros list
Does it start with drums?? nope.
@@generalknowledge9899 It does. There are "stomps" before the guitar and the "I Am Iron Man" start;
Trivium-Pull harder on the strings, Sepultura- Territory
deep in the rabbit hole of loudlists, i gotta see all them all
Loudwire, masters of compiling lists of random things someone told them about
Neil Peart is conspicuous by his absence. One Little Victory, perhaps?
Or yyz
I came here to say that. One Little Victory has a blistering drum intro.
yes of course what about Spirit of Radio! Neil has not one by many he easily occupy the list tbh. Rush digital man is in my humble opinion the mother of all drum intros.
Animate. Fucking rocks the shit outta this fucking video anyway.
The fact that One Little Victory was not here, but "We're not gonna take it" was make this list quite pathetic
3:55.....That intro is one of the reasons why I started playing drums
When I first heard Hot for Teacher, I thought the intro was a motorcycle.
How the hell isn’t raining blood on this list.
Instantly recognisable, instantly gets you ready to bang your head.
I would make a comment praising metal drummers, but last time I did, there was a 300+ reply flame war with some snobby jazz drummer :(
Egochip, you said an interesting thing! If metal drummers put Jazz influence into their drumming would be awesome!
Gar Samuelson was a jazz drummer before plying in Megadth and his drum skills were amazing at the time!
Sein Reinert, Gene hoglan (he study to Dom Famularo) ecc...
hahahaha fuck me man!! John Vincent, remember that nutter?!!!
i had to get counselling after that shitstorm lol!!
I hate both genres but yeah jazz musicians think they’re the best just because they’re technical
Actually most metal drummer's are jazz drummer's
GoldNinja Vlogspot not tryna come at you or anything, but how’d you come across this video if you hate the genre? Just wonderin lol
Theory: they leave out great bands to have us riot with comments = money
And here’s another one for you loudwire, you’re welcome
Haha! I was really hoping for van halen to be on here but didn’t expect it to be number one! Good surprise
Each one could teach a master class.
Putting Hot for Teacher was a good call!
MJR!!!!
I honestly was thought Painkiller was gonna be number 1. That’s actually surprising.
MetalJesusRocks this list feels lopsided, like some of these are iconic, and some are actually really great. No 6:00 from Dream Theater?
Yeaaah MetalJesus!!!!
As a drummer since I was 5, I could master Painkiller within' five minutes, but mastered Hit For Teacher in months.
I don't know if it counts as a drum intro, but... Queens of the Stone Age's "A Song for the Dead" is a great one.
Cezar Zanotto YES! Dave Grohl!
that one's the best!!
this one is my favorite
Grohl's work on that whole album is amazing.
Greatest drum intros of all time... proceeds to only use audio that sounds like someone dropped a bunch of cardboard boxed down a stairwell...
ALL 15 OF THEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN SLAYER
needs more cowbell
The fact that King Diamond Welcome Home wasn't on this list, voids the whole thing.
fuck yea some love for the king !
but at least mikkey dee is on here with motorhead!
Subscribe
That transition at 0:59 was perfect!
I'm so happy ticks and leeches is in there I really love that whole lateralus album!
It would be funny if they put Ulrich as the tumbnail for the video
Motorbreath
Sandi Gagic Ulrich is a clown!
Cliff Burton he cant be trash bc of the legendary status of the band but he could step his game up bc he's got the skills
Sandi Gagic Dafuq did you say?
Anki Hansen can you spell
