      Hi, SimCity 2013 reviewer here, chiming in. I absolutely regret that review and I should have been much harder on it. I did have fun with it when it worked and I think a lot of people enjoyed it too, but it was never up to the standards we expect from a city builder. It's definitely a review I learned a lot from when it comes to trusting that things will get smoothed over. Since then I've been a lot more skeptical!

      @DennisHipp Год назад

      I'm with you on this. The graphics definitely lack consistency, especially when you get into the details. The seasonal transitions, like autumn to winter, stretch on with little variation and everything blends together. Zoom in and the illusion breaks further - no grass texture, just dirt-like brown, even on steep terrains that should show rockiness. And don't get me started on the industrial farms, where buildings oddly sit right on top of crops. It all pulls you out of the experience, detracting from what could be a much more immersive game.

      @SuperMickyChow Год назад +23

      Unfortunately the devs are at the mercy of the publishers, who are in turn at the mercy of their investors.
      Money talks, and the money also knows that huge numbers of people will still buy a game that is unfinished, unoptimised and buggy as hell (you only have to read the comments on any cs2 video to see that is true)
      So, the money men want their money = game gets released no matter what.
      They can take their time optimising because they've already got your money. And you got a buggy mess for your 30-40 bucks.

    • @incremental_failure
      @incremental_failure Год назад +1

    • @SuperMickyChow
      @SuperMickyChow Год назад

      @@incremental_failure I'm aware of that.
      However, back in the days of physical media-only games, a studio couldn't release a poorly optimised game because patching wasn't a thing.
      Now we have "always on" Internet service, a game can be released in a poor state because things can be patched out after release. This gave publishers a loop hole to make money off sub-standard products, as is now the case.
      The proportion of games released in unplayable states has risen exponentially in correlation with higher broadband speeds.

    Creating games with todays high standards costs A LOT of money and takes A LOT of time. The studios have set deadlines for when their titles “must be released” .. so they (and their investors) can start making money from it, which they also need to survive.. and I’m guessing that, for them, it is all about finding a sweet spot between this “set deadline” and releasing a fully playable game, without too many delays.
    They probably already have a list of things they know aren’t 100% finished upon release date and those things are addressed in the updates. Meanwhile their hardcore gaming community can start enjoying the game and “help them” test how everything works… and what is not working.. which is then added to this to-do-list.
    So it is a balance between waiting 10+ years between every new release or faster releases and working with updates.
    This game looks very nice so far.
