- Since buying this camera, more than 2 years have passed. In the process I've learned many things not only about the x100v but about photography itself. Today I'll give some thoughts about my experiences and also touch on the camera's performance and usability.
Taking this camera out every day and everywhere, I've garnered a collection of images from all over. Sharing photos from Paris to Prague to my home state California and more, I hope to show what I love about photography and the world.

The way I describe the X100v is the ultimate story telling machine
I had the 100f but it never felt ‘natural’ or intuitive in my hands. I felt limited by it. I traded it for the V when it was released and all the changes were what made it perfect for me. As a pro I want a camera to almost disappear in my hands and let me just concentrate on images. Almost more than any camera I’ve ever used this one does that. It is truly the best ‘walking around’ camera. It really is great for what it’s meant for. If you want it to do much more then you need a bigger heavier camera that requires more $ and more of your attention. This one is just an extension of my eye. It’s so easy to have with me all the time where I would not carry my Canon with me all the time. But it still gives me the quality and look I prefer so much over my iPhone.
I love your sincere and honest comments on the x100v. I haven't shot for a long time, and I just got one recently (very lucky). I will fall in love with photography again!

Interesting video, I have not bothered upgrading from my original X100 yet. It does what I need from a walk about camera, zone focussing helps. I have had hundreds of environmental portraits published from it over the years. I am still using my X-t1 as well.

Bought mine in 2022 for retail price (maybe the last person ever to do so).
I don't think this camera will ever be traded for less than it's retail price. I was interested in the X100 series since the original "Mk1". It took me over a decade to finally decide to buy into it.
My interest has been "Street Photography" before I ever heard the term, so I knew the concept was perfect for me. The addition of a weatherproof body and new lens was what clinched the deal for me.
It's everything I hoped it would be. It lives in a tiny 3Litre Peak Design Sling bag (next to my phone, wallet and car keys... perfect minimalism).
I can see me selling all my Canon DSLRs over time, to consolidate into a Mirrorless Canon system, but I can also see me shooting this camera for ever.
It's so much more than the Olympus Trip 35 and yet it's so much the same. I truly believe the Olympus Trip 35 was a pinnacle of "everyday carry" camera design. The X100V experience is so similar, and yet I have the option to use 21st century technology if I want.
More often than not though, I turn off both LCD displays, set it to Auto/Auto/Auto, and just shoot without "chimping". There's a real forgotten joy of seeing your images later, when you get home. Not exactly like waiting 2 weeks for your 35mm film prints, but still a special, underrated, deferred joy nonetheless.
It was a "Classic" camera the day it was launched.
Great video (as always)! One point I would add to this '23mm is too wide' discussion: Use the digital teleconverter and you have also a 35mm with this tiny lens! Of course you lose quality if you print your photos, but most people only share them on smartphones anyway.
As an 11-year x100s shooter I agree 35mm is the focal length Fuji had to go with, but I at the same time I would absolutely love a 28mm version.

I have one and love it.
It’s a great camera
X100V + X-E4 + XF35 f/1.4 + XF16 f/2.8 = my minimalist setup. 16mm(24mmFF) for v-logging, mostly. 23mm(35mmFF) is wide enough for environment-priority purposes. 35mm(52mmFF) with large aperture for close-up or portrait.

*subbed* much love from vancouver canada, I've been using 35mm focal length for a while but I'm now pushing myself to shoot in 50mm but before I loved 24mm and 85mm combo, but 35mm is like the sweet spot its not too wide not too tight, its very strange but I'm glad you are happy with it, I'm gonna try the 22mm today (35mm FF equivalent) and see how I like it and see how it goes
I love this camera and I also use the 28mm conversion lens. It's very sharp and gives me a different view.
I'd really love to see Fuji find a way to add some kinda of focus confirmation to the x100v while shooting with the OVF in manual. A focus patch would be cool.

Tbh I have a Canon 70-200 MM / Sigma 18-35 MM focal lengths attached to my Canon EOS R and I hate how it’s heavy. I love this because it’s convenient and will allow me to show a different perspective of photography.

Thanks for the insight..I have considered this as everyone else has or have already done..for my everyday camera..when not shooting any professional work environment..I have my Sony's..but at this point I choose not to pay the "resell" prices that people are asking for or camera sites..its been this long already and at this time I would rather just wait for an upcoming x100VI or whatever they call the new model next..lol
Have the original x100 and if not for a shutter issue that hampers efficient use these days it’s still such a solid camera, so sure the x100v is right up there. Some great observations too. Random question, what’s the camera strap you’ve got on it?

I wish you could do electronic zoom and even electronic image stabilization without the over heating, and this would be the ideal device.

1.) Have you tried shooting video on the x100v with a gimbal mount to compensate for the lack of IBIS?
2.) Do I need a lens hood for the x100v?

After shooting 35mm for two weeks straight on a trip, I found the focal length to be a bit of a bore. I think I'm back to a 50mm or 24mm because it's just a bit different.
Love you video btw. Love my x100f and find it has much better sooc and white balancing algorithms than my Sony a7iii lol
Watched your video today after ordered for the x100vi, almost all the things you listed out have been improved by them!! Will you get one?
This will be a good camera for a while but my wish list for the next one is IBIS, the 40mp sensor that's in the xt5, and maybe a 1.4 or 1.6 lens. Not sure if they can keep the size of lens if they upgrade it though
Lucky for you, two of your wishes have been heard. I think 1.8 would be somewhat possible, but 1.4 or 1.6 would make the camera considerably bigger.
35mm is right in the middle of everything thats versatile! Adding IBIS would be fantastic!
It is a really tempting camera, one to take everywhere. But... I really hope Fuji makes it with image stabilization. Something the brand is failing in all its small cameras.
But that’s why these cameras are small…
For still in my opinion, for such wide angle, there’s no need for ibis.
Cuz in time with some practice it’s possible to handle very slow SS, like 1/10, cuz physically it’s 23mm (at least on 100v)..
so I hope they won’t do it and make it even smaller
@@aurimaspovilionis3304 Try photographing with almost no light. With the mobile phone I go as far as 1 second handheld. It is a lot smaller, and includes OIS. And I'm using it for editorial photography, in a certain genre of course.
Besides sharp images, Image Stabilization gives another great advantage - comfort and success when we're trying to frame accurately.

@@aurimaspovilionis3304 i use Leica Q2. I can shoot down to 1/4 SS handheld because of OIS and that helps me keep my nighttime city scape photos at a very low ISO. OIS is underrated and when cameras like the GRIII have it , there’s no reason why Fuji shouldn’t include it in their X100 and XPro lines. I had an X100F and sold it before the V came out. I’d love to pick up the next generation. Waiting for them to add IBIS.

The 2024 upgrade, in about six months, should be good. I'm on a dealer's waiting list. I predict lens, weather-seal and stabilization improvements.

I've made the mistake of selling X100s before. It's never a good idea (unless you have a newer one). Inevitably, you'll buy it back, usually at a premium
One version, X100V lite, for stills (no video at all for 2/3 price) and one full version with video specs. That will be interesting.
If I could build my dream EDC camera, Id take the x100v, add IBIS, boost the lens to f/1.4 (I know it would make it bigger, but thats okay by me), make the screen swivel, and 4k 60 & 1080p 240 and a full size audio jack.
Leica Q3 will likely be right up your alley then. Currently I have a Q2 which ticks a lot of your boxes (not so much video) I’m waiting to see what the Q3 brings to the table.
XT4?
I would say xt5’s AF and film sims but xh2s’ sensor to keep it fast and the files small.
I use the wide angle attachment for 28mm.
Make the lens less noisy maybe.
Also make a monochrom variant: the x100M!

Please tell me how you shoot video on x100v? I don't understand why, but when I turn on video mode, I can't change aperture or shutter speed or ISO. It's like everything is in auto mode but it's not. Please help me.
x100v is my best purchase of 2022
Do you use any additional light source ? any speed light ?
I owned the T version for about 5 years and it's the only camera I ever truly loved BUT I eventually sold it as the focus chattering and missed shots just got too annoying when the light dropped. I was dead set on getting the V but was sure they would add an internal focusing lens with linear motor. Unfortunately, I think the awesome leaf shutter design makes this impossible. I'm not sure they needed to add the weather sealing or bump up the video specs in a camera like this. I don't think they will be able to add IBIS nor do I need it.
I ended up with an XT3 and trinity of f2's which was initially cheaper, faster and more rugged by doesn't quite have the same feels.
I'm keen to get another X100 but would prefer a tougher version which is stripped down. For me I would love the screen and video specs to be removed (just use the EVF), have the ISO dial on the back like the Leica, have a single shutter speed dial on the top and twin card slots.
Make it a little bit more rugged such as putting the extra expense into more robust body materials and give it the larger battery. Then you have an pure photographers camera that I would ditch all other cameras for..
what strap do you have on your camera?
I have a Fujifilm XT4, a Fujifilm 23 mm f1.4 (35mm equivalent), and a variable ND filter. Should I in theory be able to take the exact same kind of photos as the x100v, or is there something else that makes the x100v’s images unique? I’m talking strictly in terms of image quality. I ask because I don’t want to drop another $2k+ if I don’t have to!

In theory you would have similar images to the x100v with the combo you stated above. This is because of the same sensor, focal length, etc. The only problem you may run into would be the lens quality (I've never used the 23mm 1.4, but it'll probably differ from the x100v's lens in some ways) and the quality of the nd filter (which brand you get). Overall it probably wouldn't matter too much unless you're a really technical shooter, or care about size (because it will be heavier). I think you'd be fine with that combo :)
did you ever get tired of the 35mm focal length or did you force yourself to compose the frame and now you see the world in 35mm FF equivalent ?
it's always felt like the most natural focal length to me :)
Nice review. I was very interested to buy this camera two years ago, mostly because i am shooting travel photos and i wanted something compact but capable. My only problem is the lens: a fixed 23mm (35 equivalent) just isn't useful for a "one camera, one lens" photography. Granted, this focal is very handy for almost everything but, at the same time, is also very mediocre on anything! For landscapes is too tight for wide shots and too wide for far subjects. For portraits too wide and without compression. For macros isn't that impressive without an extra attachment. Travel photography incorporates all of the above, so this camera can't make it. My solution is the Sony a6000 with the 18-105 f4 G lens. Slower aperture for sure but its zoom capabilities are outstanding and the size, though bigger than X100V, isn't much of a problem.
In my opinion the X100V is only great for street photography or as a smartphone replacement. For all the other uses is too expensive and too limited.
I wish I'd find one for a reasonable price
I have a X-T30II which is probablly the same size, similar specs and half of the price and I can't see one little thing this camera can offer that the X-T30II can't.
Is it light?
Fuji are amazing, coming from Nikon. I can see me selling all my Nikon gear and moving to Fuji xpro3
I'm doing the opposite. Shitty software, bad support. Oh and the biggest problem AF is just trash. It is soo unreliable. Even if it gets it, pics are still softer than on a nikon for example. If you like the film simulations, just download the presets.
My wish list for the X100V would be image stabilization and better color management when shooting in artificial light. I've noticed that it may be difficult to get sharp images indoors without a flash, and under light from a fluorescent lamp a human may look way too green. My middle class phone has no such issues despite its small sensor. A dedicated $1500 camera should outperform a $500 phone cam in all situations. Apart from these the X100V is pretty capable camera. I'd like to see a firmware update that would improve performance of the face detection, though.

I just want to see the app improved so you can download raw and video like on my olympus and lumix cameras and more than just 115 photos, very frustrating. I'll finish a shoot get in my car turn on the app and by the time I'm home all my photos are on lightroom with my m4/3 cameras. Otherwise the last 3 months I don't even touch my cameras unless it's a paid job.
I bought a usb3 SD card dongle and it's waaaaay easier and faster than using the app. I had to pay for a specific android app (USB media explorer) though but it's been great to pull jpegs to my phone. It also works incredible for GoPro. The GoPro app is sooooo bad it takes 24 hours to transfer 10 videos but 30 seconds with a dongle. Look into it.
This camera is been released 2 years ago and still out of stock?
I bought this camera as an upgrade from my iPhone, primarily to take still photos. I wasn’t sure how I would adapt to the slightly tighter field of view compared to the iPhone but so far so good. Actually overall, it’s really good … it does everything I was expecting and then some. Just for fun I took the camera on a sailing adventure and even managed to capture some nice video!

It's a great camera but the focal length gets old real quick. There's so many interesting lenses out there, especially affordable classic manual focus lens out there that you can play around with.
Weather sealing also doesnt matter that much to me, I've carried the XE1 across the world for almost 10 years now and its still fine.

They storing issue when you have clarity on is extremely annoying!
OVF/EFV on this camera is not what people want. They will eventually get rid of it.
Put back the buttons on the back, get rid of the foolish "articulated" screen and put a real lens similar to what's on the Q2 by then you might have a true street photography camera.....
What they 100% need to improve is the weak EVF...
