SHARP is an excellent organization. Not only do they conduct more punishing testing but they actually use store-bought helmets, so no hand picked units sent for testing.
I actually love your honest review. Scripted reviews at times seem robotic and non-authentic, so I appreciated your authenticity. Although my head is a little more rounded, I'm gonna give an Icon a try and add it to my collection. I'll just order a size up from my other helmets. Thanks again for your review.
Pros to mine I've noticed Great air flow Helmet gets lots of compliments Lots of features for the money Cons The visor makes it very difficult to ride with it open and the drop down visor directs wind directly into your eyes Difficult to mount a go pro Loud Side note I got into an accident with mine and it definitely saved my head. All four sides of the helmet were scrapped up and i got knocked out but all I had was a concussion. Also in terms of the visor does it get dirty easy and make you think it's damaged, yes. However it looks good as new when cleaned. Aslong as you keep the rst visors clean it looks very good.
@@jaredcompton158 thanks man, and yup I tested it out myself and 10/10 didn't die 🤣. I do have the mips one which I would strongly recommend to anyone interested in the helmet. Did the mips make a difference I honestly have no idea but I'm definitely glad I had it anyways.
Sharp can be useful, but ECE certification should be enough to give you confidence that the helmet will protect you in a crash. DOT is useless, even though US law enforcement is anal about having that DOT sticker on the lid. I wish Sharp would test more helmets and brands sold in the US. Look at the model numbers, most are those sold in Europe. there may be a correlation to those sold in the US, but there is nothing indicating that o their site. Good review. Ride safe.
it´s so counterintuitive that a helmet so aerodynamically designed (seemingly) is so noisy. It´s either this or the Ruroc Atlas 2.0 that I am getting. Only disadvantage with Ruroc Atlas 2.0 is the missing internal sun visor. Very handy with these! Helmets without internal visors is always bugging!
Thanks for watching! As an update, I have to say that when I stand up and the air is only passing over the helmet, it is much quieter than when I sit behind my bike's windscreen. There is something about the way the wind hits the helmet behind the wake of the windscreen that amplifies the noise way beyond what is bearable.
@@jaredcompton158 interesting. But I have experienced that to. The windscreens need to ensure you sit outside of the turbulence, not in it. So some screens actually makes its worse.
I have always fit a Medium, and this Medium fits once it is on, but putting it on squeezed the sides of my head until well worn in (a couple months). I'd say it is close to chart, but the on and off transition is rough in the beginning.
I’m actually surprised that there are negative comments. I was looking for an in depth review of the helmet and I think this is great. A plus that there’s another helmet to compare to. Great job
Thanks for the positive feedback! I too like having context and comparison, but have a tendency to be long winded, so I see the other commenter's points. Let me know if you have any specific questions that went unanswered.
Us your head an intermediate oval or an oblong oval? I was curious about sizing. If I might need a size up since the helmet is oblong and I'm intermediate, and I also wear glasses
Remember when buying helmets you can purchase different size cheek and liners to make the helmet fit best for you. I sized down my cheek pads and liner and the fit is spot on. I have an XXL helmet. Qb1 airflite black and silver. I have a sena slim sf4 com unit. Works great. I have customized my spoiler and visor.
very good in depth review, maybe a bit of too much blablabla talk around the point, but there are really good points overall. Hint for future vids, add timemarkers/sections ;)
thanks for the criticism! I have put so many more miles on this helmet and am planning on doing a long-term review with a new thoughts! I will definitely use a script to put more info in less time.
Sharp only tests a flat impact not a glancing blow as most are on a motorcycle accident. If you hit anything at speed flat you are going to be in trouble with pretty much any helmet. Icon now has the MIPSsystem and should still be a really good helmet. Trust the safety ratings of ece.
It's been a few weeks and it is now not painful at all. Turned out to be extremely comfortable after a few weeks brake in. The noise level is quite high. I taped over the selector for the drop down visor and the noise level dropped significantly.
@@sspradley11 after putting it on on and off the past week multiple times a day it still takes a tad bit of force to get it on and off but its no longer painful os getting pretty comfortable and stopped trying to rip my ears off when removing it
In the end, you are paying for the style and design of the Icon. The other helmet is generic looking so half the cost. Aside from both having the same safety ratings, it’s all coming down to style and customization. If you are fine with that understanding, then you can see the value you are paying over the other. That’s just my two cents on the cost topic. I just received my Icon, and went with the green/black/white in the same style. I definitely agree that it fits perfectly, but a royal pain to put on and take off. Otherwise it’s pretty much what I expected aside from my matte black Shoei GT Air 2 that’s my primary. I got this to add some color to my gear and match the color of my Kawasaki Z400. I have no need to add Bluetooth as I have the Shoei for that with the integrated Sena system. So I’ll use my AirPods Pro if they can withstand the ear ripping feeling of putting this on and off. Otherwise, the helmet stands out and I get a LOT of compliments on it. Pictures and video doesn’t do it justice. Especially when you get your choice of reflective color face shield. I might order a back up or two just in case a rock leaves a permanent crack or scratch. I like to keep things clean and uniform at all times.
Very well said! I agree about paying for the name and style points. After a while, you forget the cost, but having something you can love is great and worth it in the end. Glad you got one, you'll enjoy it! The on/off troubles seem to be less noticable now that the helmet is a bit broken in.
I think you may have swayed me away from buying one of these. I have Energica Ego electric motorbike,it's futuristic and I wanted a helmet to go with it. Was looking at the "Blockchain",but not sure if I could live with the downsides? BTW,I also have an Agrius helmet that is quiet, comfortable, has 4star sharp rating and cost £29!!!!
At the time I did this review, my windscreen was throwing all the wind turbulence at the Icon in all the worst ways. Now that I have adjusted the windscreen height, everything is quiet. But when the helmet takes air straight on ( no windscreen blocking or redirecting air) it is still not on the quiet side of helmets, but it is not hardly as bad as I make it out to be in the video.
Sorry for the unwanted content. most of my viewers, however, know me and my riding history so I was telling them why I upgraded. also, the previous helmet gives me a base for comparison.

Just got mine and after 1 day I can say the only con so far is the ears folding when I put it on. After that it is amazing.

This is less brutally honest and more brutally longwinded. Good info but you should consider a script, you'd get this done in a third of the time.
