Forretress and Chespin are based on a walnut and a chestnut respectively, so missed opportunity there by limiting yourself to gen 3.
I think it would be interesting to reattempt this challenge in HeartGold and soulsilver. You could use sunkern, exeggcute and pineco. 3 nuts 😂

I legit did this run myself like 5 months ago on a whim in my old copy of Pokémon emerald because I wanted an excuse to keep seedot adorable and unevolved and see if I could make sunkern decent with heavy ev training. I considered the theme seed Pokémon though. Lol.

If you want to go outside and eat a random acorn, choose wisely. Some oaks are loaded with extra tannins, making their nuts extra bitter.
Find a species that germinates in the fall, like white oak, as their nuts don’t need as much tannin for wintering.
