I wholeheartedly believe motor gliders are the best birds to start with. You have all the power you need but can learn motorless flyinhg. Gliding teaches a pilot to respect and maneuver with the elements. A glider pilot can better control any airplane in strong gusty winds with nary a crash and smooth sailing. I taught myself using powered gliders so obviously my opinion is biased. But I can fly even little gliders like this in winds of up to 30mph without a crash or too much hassle without the need for massive updraft. My personal favorite is still a polyhedral foamie with a top mounted prop. Makes for near walkable slow flying speeds with long battery time or going straight to speck for a bit of thermalling for good bouts of time. I see them as a good all-around plane that you can enjoy in a multitude of environments. And gliders teach you to FEEL the wind as you pilot. Research famous pilots who safely landed planes with a dusted engine (i.e. Lake Huron). Prior glider pilots, many of them. It's due to their glider training that they knew how to respect and leverage the environment for a safe landing that other pilots could not muster. Yes pilots train for powerless flight but still remain dependent on engine thrust in all things. Prepare for the worst amd hope for the best!
Just flew mine today for the first time, this is my first plane as I usually fly drones, absolutely outstanding bit of kit, worth every penny for a learner plane, yet to try in 3d mode, lol.happy flying guy's 😃
Unfortunately I know him well! I lost mine in a wheat field last Thursday! For the little that I managed to make it fly I had a lot of fun and I was on the first flight, I even came in for a maneuvering error without being damaged (neither I nor the model!) So easy to maneuver even for those who have no experience and totally harmless from a security standpoint. I hope to be able to recover it even if it is a desperate undertaking, I asked a friend to fly over the field with the drone but we didn't see anything, I lost eye contact for a ruined house and I couldn't see exactly where it fell: for his minimum weight I'm sure he didn't break completely, but finding him is another story!
Nice little glider. I wish it was larger though. I loved trying to thermal gliders like this. It’s so small I might lose it after 1000 feet. Beautiful flying airplane. I’m probably gonna get one!
Looks like a nice relaxing glider, capable of 3d like as well in 3d mode.I might get one, cheap enough as well.I am also considering the XK450 VTOL plane, something a bit more interesting to fly.
Hello good video. I have a question I want to start in the hobby of planes but I want to know how to calculate the distance I have to fly it away for example in drones with GPS it tells you when you are flying far away and lose signal. In this airplanes how can you know the distance you can fly it
fherny77 depends what model most planes I have flown give you no warning when you are near out of range, so you pretty much rely on its distance range you are given such as 200 metres and then estimate how far it is. If you fly an FPV it might give you a warning, I know with the hubsan Skyhawk it has failsafe mode so it will auto land
It will go out of view before range. They are not the same as flying drones. Its hands on and looking at it all the time otherwise it will just fly out of control.
Hello, i just bought an AK A800 and just flew it for the first time. However, on my third flight i panicked on a turn near a large tree and turned off the controller power, and then quickly turned it back on - why did i do that i hear you ask !?!?! The plane crash landed, but is Ok. However, now i cant stop the motor from running flat out when i connect the battery, even when the throttle is in the off position. Any auggestions on how i can prevent this problem? Thanks
Me too looking at this or the Sky King, I suppose I like gliders plus you cant beat the control authority of ailerons so I guess the A800 is the fave at the moment. If I can get it for around £40 I will be doing well (I think Aliexpress do it around this price.)
😊❤might buy this my friend, I have a question though: I know this is a speed 400 brushed motor, I usually aim to get brush less in most models😊Has yours proved reliable,?
Hi guys, looking at this model vs the sky king? Any thoughts? I'm just starting out with outdoor RC. Used to indoor heli. Just want something to train on then move on up when the skills increase. Any opinions are appreciated..
1. Can you shut off the motor with tx while it is in flight? 2. I know you are a very experienced rc pilot, but looking at the video, why is a glider fly so jerky and the terrible landing? is it due to the plane handling or maybe it is actually a super windy day?
Hello excellent video, i have a question i have only flown drones, but i want to start with hobby of planes too, the planes are more difficult to fly? As you have to keep moving the elevator so it wont be going down or climbing to high? And the rudder its to turn faster than the ailerons of the wings, because the ailerons of the wings are to turn too right? So it is difficult to fly a plane
It's different, but I wouldn't say it's harder. If you trim the plane correctly and set the center of gravity right you only need the elevator to change the altitude. As rudder goes, you don't need to use it, many RC planes like flying wings don't even have rudders. But it is usefull, the best way to use it is to make coordinated turns - you turn with your rudder and use ailerons to control the bank. It's second nature when you het used to it and not that hard to learn. If you have a PC and a transmitter that can be connected to it, download a free sim (picasim, rc desk pilot, Multiplex sim) and give it a shot
Get RealFlight and practice with that on your laptop. It will definitely save you from crashing your real model. It’s definitely a learning curve. Good luck & have fun!
Hey guys, I've heard or read, depending which advert you find that the Tx is mode 1 or mode 2. Is that true. Can you switch between the two. I am a mode 1 flyer.
Yes you would that's why gliders usually fly longer than other planes you usually go as high as possible and then just cut the throttle and BAM glides forever
I tried to fly mine today. Three or four attempts at takeoff by launching by hand. Exactly as you did in your video. With all three or four attempts, my model flew into the ground. (no damage, no broken propeller - yet). However, it did not fly straight out of my hands and hold a steady course of flight. Which brings me to my next question - is the plane supposed to fly out of your hands with a gentle throw and release action without any further control inputs from the transmitter? Or did you apply some up elevator to keep it on course initially. Not even the auto stabilization was enough to keep it from heading towards the ground. I've seen other vids on this, and now I've seen yours. What am I doing wrong. It should be so easy! If I release the model with a climbing angle, the stabilization takes over and applies down elevator. Should I release the model in a downwards direction so the stabilization applies up elevator? Bit lost at the moment.
Can't remember but is there a way to calibrate the gyro in the manual. From memory for most of these models it is normally plug in the battery, turn on transmitter and then hold both sticks to bottom left or both to inner bottom centre or both to outer bottom corners.
Are you also sure that the elevator is moving correctly. Move the right stick down and the elevator should go up. If not you need to reverse it which is normally done by plug in the battery, turn on the transmitter and hold down the right stick.
Just bought this plane happy with a few others but this one stinks out of the box. Can't get the wings to snap together don't want to wreck it. No luck no luck. This plane sucks.

Great to hear John! Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
john mullen i was thinking of buying it. Im also new, but i have one question - do you need to build the airplane, or does it come pre-build?
@@christofferarthurschier3041 its pretty much built already, just 2 screws and away you go,its well worth the money, hangs in the air for ages 😉
@@christofferarthurschier3041 did you get one. i fly helis but fancy a plane but worried of it flying off into the distance never to be seen again!!
Plane is 1000x easier to fly then helis, we are talking about glider of course which can fly super slow@@roger40000

No problem 👍
How many minutes is the flight time ?
Looks like a nice powered glider, although, maybe a bit underpowered. Perhaps a nice FPV Cruiser ;-) Thanks for the flight demo. See you in the Air!
Super video...❤❤❤. I ordered 1. For fun with my brothers son...
Good choice. These little XK foamies are a great gift for fun down the park.

Yes. Windy day so not best for flying. Throttle is proportional on left stick on radio

No. Would add too much weight.
