Chances are he's getting it mostly for his own fleet at first. RUclips allows him to do things a normal business wouldn't be able to justify.

@@randallhoover2410insurance companies don’t care who’s fleet he’s towing the risks, liability on the road are still gonna be the same regardless who’s Truck is hooked to it. The insurance is still going to be high on it, he’ll have to tow some paid work on it to keep from going in the hole. Yeah he’ll save some money towing his own trucks. But he’s still gotta put it to work to offset the costs of The truck, insurance, permits, repairs and other expenses. In a perfect world If he was a very large fleet company he could only use it on his fleet. But it’ll have to go to work to pay for itself & it’s upkeep.
It’s still nice to have his own Tow Rig to offset costs of hiring it out on his own trucks that need towed.

Should also look into a wreck master course. They’ll teach him and that trucks operator how to run it properly and safely. And I wouldn’t move the fuel tanks back either. You’ll want to keep the weight up front on your steer axle for when you’re loaded.

I owned a subaru shop in anchorage. It grew so large that I had to buy more land and get a huge shop up and as of yesterday.... you know exactly when that feeling hits ya. I was heading to a real estate office and seen something that made my knees buckle! Old friend of mine had a sign up "FOR SALE" and it was near center of town with five acres. I caught him walking back to his office and hollered to him to take that sale sign down!! He laughed and said.... Son, you can't afford this shop. I told him to just hear me out. We sat down and parlayed for a good bit and then felt that feeling of putting out all the money I had and some. I really didn't know what land was worth but I did find out that friendship can make a huge difference. He had run a truck rental there for a good thirty years. One of those trucks he had was the only large wrecker in the state of alaska and to top that off, you never seen it on the road. It was a older truck all right but it hadn't seen much highway time. It was in nice shape all right but it had things going against it for my own knowledge of rigs I knew I wouldn't be able to afford fuel for it on distance runs to say fairbanks or even further. Yes it had the dot numbers and all. 1693 Cat motor and it had a five and four transmission. I caught some luck and sold the engine out of it for about the money I bought the truck at as we did figure every rig I got from him for its values. That went a long way towards getting a big thirteen speed in it. I kept the brownie as it was the long over. 1960 something as not sure just what year now. Putting the new doors with handles at the lower corner come at a high dollar as you know they don't just switch over. Ya learn a lot in hindsight. I know now for example that I should of kept those older style doors. Insurance kept me from keeping that truck as a new operator, it just ain't in the cards. It surely was one pretty truck.... big old long nose W900

I ran wreckers for 20 years, everything from 8 tons up to 50 tons. Managed a smaller company for years. Be sure you know what you're getting into with that. Insurance on that unit isn't gonna be cheap at all. The companies i drove and worked management had to have a minimum million dollar policy to cover everything. Depends on the state and who your customers are. When i got out of towing 10 years ago, we were paying 15k a month for a small fleet, just because we had 2 heavys and a rollback. Be sure you know what you're doing with the truck, too. Inexperience can cost a lot more than just money. Good luck tho on this new venture. After 20 years, i retired to just driving full-time. The no sleep days and nights take a toll on ya. Up north, when we'd get a blizzard, my phone would ring, and im gone, for anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks, just running my ass off dam near nonstop.

Tim do yourself a big favor and order new Wire ropes for that wrecker, The ones on there now definitely looked like they needed replacement especially after seeing how the previous owner had the one all bird nested and didn't wrap it properly after getting it untangled. Those cables need to be properly power wrapped after every heavy pull and should never be allowed to get bird nested (tangled) on the winches. You definitely don't want to get someone hurt or killed by a cable breaking during a pull because it is damaged or rusted out.

You can't beat a N.R.C. they are the best in the industry I'm my opinion and they also make one hell of a quick swap for a tractor but you need to have a stretched out tractor in order to get maximum efficiency out of a quick swap and weld a piece of flat stock steel on your under reach so when you suck it all the way in it keeps your T-bar straight instead of flopped to one side or the other that's a good way to eventually loose an attachment even though it has stops from loosing an attachment eventually that will wear out and you will loose an attachment.

Don't move the fuel tanks....you want that weight as far forward so when you load something on the lift you have more steer axle weight

Wow!! What a neat ole tow truck. Another step up for Gentry and Sons. Now you need to turn the guys loose on it and fix it up Gentry style. I can hardly wait to see how it turns out as you fix it up. I think a good name for it is BOB (Big Old Beast). You are doing so well after the disastrous start of this year. God is truly blessing you as your company keeps growing and doing well. I can't hardly believe how well Brax does on so many different things. It sure sounds better and starts better since you put the magic to it. I sure do enjoy your videos keep up the good work in all that you do.

Wow tim, you seem to have gotten a great deal with that t 600. But rather than do random tows, you might find insirance cheaper if you only use it for your company. Something to think about.

Well, Congratulations. I hope you know that NOMAR wreckers were discontinued years ago and you will have a very rough time trying to find replacement parts for it. Last I remember there was a Tow truck parts dealer down in Texas that was able to get Non OEM parts for them for a while but that was several years ago.

I would look into taking record classes for heavy duty. Also in some states you gotta have a document for tow trucks. Would just check it out in your state. Good luck like the truck.

Tim, we love ya buddy, were gonna stay tuned even if you didnt tell us that... once again, good luck with the towing industry my friend. Stay safe out there and if there is ANY ADVICE i could give you, never skimp on safety equipment and keeping your trucks equipment up to date.
