Save the next wrecker operator a headache and pull those tow hooks out from under the hood and place them where they can be easily found in your tool box. That bolt can be a real PITA especially if you're on the side of a mountain in bad weather.
This is awesome. Now I have something to look forward to. Also keeps me occupied when it's-5 degrees Fahrenheit in Texas! As for a list: coolant, chains, kitty litter, flares (normal or electric), high visibility hat and jacket, warm gloves, food and water, windshield washer fluid (can help melt snow/ice on windshield, mirrors, lights, etc.) Ice scraper, extra fluids (brake, oil, trans, power steering), snow boots, hand warmers, and tow straps.
I over stock my truck with items to prepare me for any situation. But definitely want winter washer fluid, spare set of quality wiper blades, airline antifreeze, quality chains specific to your tire size, extended life coolant, snow broom, spider bungees, fuel treatment (warmer climate states don’t treat their fuel like the colder climate states.. so if you’re running from let’s say Texas and heading north, you probably want to make sure you have a fuel treatment of your choice to help prevent freezing diesel), also having diesel 911 is safe insurance, extra blankets to stay warm.. with diesel prices being high, you definitely don’t want to run your truck constantly.. plus, running your truck constantly just puts unnecessary wear and tear on the truck that will be problematic later in its life.. can never go wrong with having some assortment sizes of hose clamps and fuses just in case, I carry a propane blow torch to help unfreeze my airline connectors since I have quick connect set up and not your typical glade hands airline setup.. so they are more prone to freeze and not unlatching if any type to water gets inside the connectors, now there’s lots of other items you could carry as well, but I’m just looking at winter specific items that are necessities and shouldn’t be overlooked.
Hey Shelby (and Dakota ofcourse) in my truck I always have some low empty tubs and 3 bags/boxes of clumping catlitter .... useful for containing every spillage .... then spare truck/trailer leads and 2 spares of each airline hands + their rubber rings .... minimum 2 containers of engine oil, 1 break fluid, 3 bottles of -60'C anti-freeze .... clean dry fleece/woolen clothes (I mostly drive in Northern Scandinavia) also why I have heated fuel and break lines, also my oil pan is heated, so no liquid can freeze up Also water & MRE's (military Meals Ready to Eat) for 60 days, because once (due to a snow avalange on a Fjord road in Norway) I got stuck for 36 days and barely survived Greetings from Northern Europe

Lol! Couple gallons antifreeze.... good toolbox with nessisary tools.... chains legal for all states.... ow and most important... CHOCOLATE! JUST SAYIN! BE SAFE DRIVERS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎅 🎄 ❤

Washing the truck is important in the winter, although it seems like a poor use of time, because you need to get the salt and other stuff off the truck. Extra blankets are not a bad idea. Do you have an APU of some kind to minimize the idling? Old engines did ok with idling for heat or A/C, but I am told that the newer engines get messed up by it due to the emission gear. Every once in a while, I think about trucking again after I retire. I'm old and set in my ways (I was grandfathered on my CDL, which is probably older than you 🤪 ) and probably would be driven crazy by a trainer. I'm also a dog person like you, and that would present a problem with a trainer. I'm sure my dog would love to meet Dakota, he's fascinated with other dogs. If you ever have the misfortune to go to Seattle, I'm east of it over the pass.

Speaking of boots last winter you said you needed to get a new pair of boots I do not remember the brand but did you get the boots? That is all I can think of hope it reminds you of something you forgot. 🤗
Considering my truck literally just froze up a few hours ago I can tell you what I wish I had and did have. Chains fuel treatment for both preventing it from freezing and after it does freeze. Extra fuel filters. A battery jump box. Starting fluid. Something to keep your drinks from freezing because all of my water froze solid within 45 minutes of my truck dying. Chargers for your phone. A spare phone incase yours quits working in the cold again like mine did. Ice scraper a hand held torch a flashlight a hammer pliers screw driver. Filter wrench. Kitty litter. Hand warmers. Something to protect your face and eyes from the snow. Plenty of clothes that you can layer up with.
I wonder if I saw you on the I90 in Montana heading the opposite way from me a few weeks ago right after turkeyday. I saw a big ol' puppers and somebody bundled up who looked like you. If it was you, yay! If not, then hi to whomever it was!

Those bottom power steering clamps always loosen up. Just needs a new clamp. The red our and hose rarely go bad.
