  • I have always wanted to stop and check the ghost town of Belleville, Nevada. It was not only an excellent way for the pup and I to stretch our legs, but we got to check out some unique ruins. I pass by many ghost towns and cool unique places on my travels.
I want to make an effort to film my adventures outside the truck going forward. They not only bring me so much joy, but they are a main reason I love my job. I feel it is only suitable to let other truckers and travelers in on the great places to stop across America.
Let me know your thoughts. Keep 'er between the mustard and mayonnaise.

Belleville was founded in 1873 or 1874 and its primary industry was the mill processing ore from the Northern Belle Mine at Candelaria. The mill was located just east of the present-day historical marker. Its first bullion bar shipment of $9,200 was made in April 1875. The town was famed for a "Wild West" atmosphere; murders, drunken brawls, and "sporting" practical jokes were commonplace. When the Carson and Colorado Railroad reached the town in 1882 its population was 500, and the town was served by a doctor, assay office, express office, telegraph station, livery stable, school, two hotels, restaurants, and blacksmith shops as well as by seven saloons.
The post office was in operation from December 1874 until 1894.
By 1892 water piped to Candelaria allowed the ore to be milled nearer the mine, and Belleville was deserted except for a brief revival from 1915 until 1918 during which time a post office was in operation.

That is a neat scree pile. Watch for boards or tin over a hole in the ground, harder to see with snow cover. On the cairns or rock stacks in a park it can give someone a little slower the wrong idea of where to go. Doing a small rock stack like that there is not an issue, but now if thousands of people did it then bugs would loose the rocks to hide under. The stacks where used for directions and other things in the past, but you need to know the order to pile the rocks to tell the direction, etc. and the "language" is not the same from place to place. Stay safe and healthy.

Shelby, I echo the concerns of others in regard to not only your safety, but for Dakota's as well. B4 u leave on such adventures, make sure u mark /record your GPS location. Have a GPS tracker of some sort with u., mb with satellite capabilty. What happens if your cellphone battery dies, cold temps reduce battery life. Also, take some bottles of water with u. Granted air was cool, but when Dakota or you start huffing, hydration is needed or needs to be a concern. In warm weather, dogs may overheat and start foaming at mouth.
I think there is available some sort of device that explorers/hikers can carry that sends out an emergency signal. I grew up in 50's/60's, no cellphones/GPS locators. So that's it , Things to think about, mb small backpack b4 u jump out and explore on a whim. Spare batteries, hydration, gps locator, mb emergency flare, depending on your location/remoteness. Not to put a scare in u, just be situation aware. Mb even attach some sort of gps tracker on Shelby as well in case something happens to either of u. Anyway, all my best. Keep trucking, exploring and see ya'll on next video.

Another rock collector, yay! I have river rock from multiple rivers in the West, and granite and other rocks from all over New England. It's a bit weird to literally move a 'box of rocks' when switching houses, but some of the rocks I have are from a couple of decades ago now!
Also, a suggestion - tuck a pair of telescoping trekking poles on your truck for when you're doing these explorations. Even using just one (if you're filming) to steady yourself on trails and loose scree will help prevent a rolled ankle.

You had to know I was going to comment on this one ☺️ Fascinating find and a part of history thousands of people likely pass every day without giving much thought. To think a group of people once lived and worked there at one point in time. Thhose walls and tunnels ate the only evidence they have left of their presence. Sorry to get so deep, but it's very cool that you took the time to check it out. I respect that you left the little pile alone. Good on you, Shelby!
Just a note, if Dakota ever seems uncomfortable or panicky in an old place, you might want to take heed. Just in case
Thanks for sharing this it was very cool and interesting Be safe out there.

Have you seen a new app for truck drivers called Trucker Guide? That app has many valuable features, but the most useful one is live road cameras, which help to check road conditions all over the U.S.

I would say the place that you were exploring was where they made bricks back in the day. The holes that you seen was most likely part of the furnace system, perhaps the air intakes.
The piles of rocks that you came across (from my wilderness experience) are called a "rock cairn". It is used to mark trails in the wilderness and is able to be spoted with the naked eye (or with binoculars) from a distance away..

It gives me a warm fuzzy that someone of your time even notices places like this where people obviously worked thier asses off to survive and hopefully thrive. They all have their own stories from times we could not comprehend.

Be careful walking around on those jagged rocks. Does the plaque by the side of the road explain at all the ruins that you're seeing in that ghost town? You really do get to see some amazing landscapes across this great country of ours, and from a very unique perspective too! You should put together a photographic book of your sightseeing adventures and call it "Adventures With Dakota". It would sell like hotcakes!

I was just thinking I should have taken more still pictures but I think I was caught up in the moment. I like to post pictures for Instagram and I think we could have got some unique ones. Next time though! The plaque does describe the ruins

There’s apparently a Belleville in California, but aside from also being a ghost town, I’m not sure if the one in California and the one in Nevada are related in any way, other than the fact they were apparently mining towns at one point in time (albeit mining two completely different things) before being abandoned and becoming the ghost towns they are now.
