I like the fact that the whole cab is used in the transformation so he can scale to MP10 size
I agree. Might as well use the entire thing for the transformation instead of just part of it.
I really like that transformation because it incorporates the whole camper section into the transformation. The robot mode brings him up to the proper scale rather than leaving him hot rod sized in robot mode.
I appreciate how they handled the fins on the back. They could've tried to come up with some way to hide the flames, or parts form another piece over them, but nope. They want you to look at him from behind and see those awesome flames. That's a pretty ballsy artistic liberty.

I dunno, man. The placement of the pipes on the back of the fins, as if the flame decals are shooting out of them, look at the very least a little bit intentional... like it just sorta started to work out that way and they rolled with it to make it cool. Maybe it's just me.

Put 2 layers of black ducktape on the handles of the gun and Carry should be able to hold it ok.

Love this review and it made a lot more practical sense as a guide to transform carry than the manual. Hilarious bit with prime at the end - "who got the matrix?" hahaha! Looking forward to more of your reviews.
omg, that final skit was hilarious! thanks for making it. My Carry is en route and with the way the target master just sits on top of Carry in the box i'm dreading how much the target master is going to scratch up the top of Carry.

I really wish they would have engineered a shoulder transformation ala MP28 where the fenders can swivel around the wheels to hide them from the front.

Heh... while I didn't see MP Rodimus (or should I say MP Hot Rod, as we only got the trailerless one with targetmaster over here... no wingscratches for us ;> ) as a QC Nightmare... he is just not that fun to transform (and some parts constantly fall off). He is fiddly and pieces don't stay together that well.
Carry on the other hand does look like a fun toy in general... :>
Will have to see if I can get him for a decent price at a (more) local shop. The shipping from BBTS over here is just a bit too steep for my taste, sadly.
It's strange that they even decided to make the index finger a free joint at all. It's not like the gun had a trigger to set it on; it was just a cylindrical handle.

This same transformation could be done with a semi-truck instead of that traditional front bit. A few small tweaks of course, but it could be done.

never been a big fan of the weird truck thing rodimus, but this is still a pretty cool toy.
the vehicle mode is about classics or generations scale where as the robot is basically a masterpiece
that target master looks like he just spat out his dentures
I only got Carry a few weeks ago. I think the third restock did something to fix how well he holds his gun. The post is still as short in the video, but if the hand is fully closed, he seems to be holding the gun fairly well.

Best/better are subjective. If, like me, you're a massive fan of the G1 aesthetic and want your collection to reflect that, MP-09 is clearly the best option. I'm not a fan of the Studio Ox look, so Carry was out for me, regardless of the relative merits of the engineering quality.
GREAT ENGINEERING! THE CAB AND THE SPACE TRUCK ARE ONE. NOT LIKE THE MASTERPIECE ONE THAT WERE SEPARATED.
I keep thinking about WHY Carry's Face works for me better the the tradition Rodimus face and I think it comes down to that big honking superhero chin he has. I'm just in awe of it. Looks like he should have a Smolder like Dr. Bravestone lol.

My first roddy did explode (the left arm) but I forgot to put the rifle back in when exchanged it so I have 2 and now a really good use for them.
As always, great review. I've always liked Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime, but never cared much for "reimagined" G1 figures. I'm not knocking this, it's just not for me. Neither is the Fansproject armor. Takara got it right on the vehicle mode, but the QC issues ruined what would have been my favorite Masterpiece. For display, it was great, but it wasn't something I felt safe taking off the shelf and messing with, so I sold it. Since Hot Rod got another shot with MP-28, I'm hoping for a new MP Rodimus Prime someday.

When i see a Review of this toy, i Always Think of Europé and their song Carrie, it just seems to fit just right
I like him, he looks awesome. His head sculpted is very nice. His wings are awesome because their so big and I like that. He needs a autobot symbol on his chest though, he kinda looks weird without it. Optimus is such a jerk, one of these days, the other autobot are going to rally up and throw him out because they will be so sick of him, or worse. You better watch it Prime, your asking for it. Anyway great review emgo keep up the good work.

Glad you did this review cause I'm expecting mine this week cause I ordered it on Ebay from China. I will likely replace my Takara Rodimus with this guy on my display. We really need a Masterpiece Springer to happen soon!
The only flaw with carry is that it's still a bit too small. He doesn't have presence, neither robot mode on the masterpiece shelf nor alt mode in a fleet

I have to admit Its the best looking version of the king slayer I have ever seen but I'm concerned about sales for it with the new takara one coming out and all but I'm glad you like it. I personally am probably going to get the official though so wish me luck man
+ToyboxStudios I don't think it'll hurt sales because from my understanding Takara is doing hot rod not rodimus. So I think there is still a place for this figure
He shines so much more in robot mode, his alt mode does need work done to it

The skit was awesome
Apart from the issues with the weapon and his hands, he looks like an interesting transformer, better than most of the "official" Hasbro figures lately, why cant the official companies take on the designs of the quality 3rd party products and if necessary, improve minor flaws, such as this ones hands.
I would prefer the G1 model since that is closer to the movie and subsequent cartoons
