I agree with you emgo. This one, with the fake hood body looks WAAAAAAY better than the official MP version. Who cares if it is a bit gappy, no-one ever really looks at it from those angles anyway.

General consensus.
Takara: better vehicle mode and articulation, as well as easier transformation process.
FT: Better overall robot mode and shelf presence, but worse and more limited articulation.
What's the point in fighting over which is better anyways? Noice reeview.
I was just thinking of something. That being, right before you transform the arms, the thrusters could be construed as ion blasters.

I don't mind Falls parts but it needed a head that can look UP and DOWN for me.
Looks good as long as its facing forward. Couldn't it have been covered up by panels. The target master has great articulation, though.
I definitely like this one over the official version because it seems to be more accurate to the cartoon
I don't know why but the vehicle mode makes me think of a stubby dragon fly with a really wide and thin tail fin

my mp hotrod also cant stand up, but my KO one can, but now that i have FT hoodlum i have it for BOT mode as i feel it looks better for my collection

They’re coming out with a new masterpiece prime. Mp-45, i think. I dunno the exact masterpiece number, but from the leaked pictures, it looks cool, better than mp-10, in terms of show accuracy. I’d recommend reviewing him when he’s released.

Emgo, I also have one as well. I like mine too, but please be careful with that chest piece. I put my repro labels on him. With the front part mine also has the paint chipped too. I’m a Hot Rod fan no matter what, from my g1 to Fanstoys. I have waited for to get this one to review. Thanks for that.

Did anyone notice how Vehicle mode Hot Rod with the Flames on his hood is sort of like a Pontiac Trans-Am? he’s a Transformer that looks like a Trans-Am! I’m wondering if the designers were trying to make that association.
If they reveal Hot Rod in the future Bumblebee styled Transformers movies, I wonder what his updated retro design would be done.

Love the look of this figure, but the backpack is not well engineered. On mine, the chest piece that goes over the head doesn't hook on to the backpack. So it feels loose, and the only thing holding it all in place is the tab under the head. Looks fine on display, but doesn't feel solid in the hand...

I have not quite forgiven Takara for the horror that was the MP Rodimus / Hot rod combo. It was great they tried to do both in one figure but boy was it fragile. Just got the FT hotrod and both modes are great!. Has to watch the transform vid tho as the instructions are grim. Head movement was a silly oversight tho. Looks great next to FT Kup.
Is buying third party a good experience? Never done it before but this and the dream factory wreckers look amazing so i might but the fact its not officially made kinda draws me away

My MP-28 stands fine, I think MP looks crisper, but I do prefer the size, I always thought Hotrod was noticeably larger than regular car bots. FT isn't too big, but not too small, I think MP is just slightly too small.
I think its kinda dumb that they went with a backpack and hid away those parts of the hood instead of making use of those pieces to fill out the body more. From what Ive seen they dont usually slack like that.
Another great review. Not gonna pick this one up myself. The whole neck area looks crappy and cheap, and the chest emblem/forearms just look too(for lack of a better term) "chubby"
Wow, the official Hot Rod looks like even more hot garbage now that it's compared to this third party one.
What was the last actual Hasbro bot that compared to the 3rd party ones? They're all cheap plastic and even then they tend to be more hollow than anything.

Both might be inferior to the Studio Series 86 Voyager Hot Rod and Kingdom Commander Rodimus Prime. I don’t own these MP-scale ones, but the 86 and Commander ones are excellent.
Is actually love to see .rodimus prime get some similar weaponry and upgrades that our beloved optimus got. Such as a battle "Trailer", axes, shields, swords, guns, the works. Even the jet pack upgrades would be amazing! I have to say Rodimus prime has always been my favorite prime of all of them out there. Lets give Rodimus some love too!

The official can be hot rod.. and this on can be rodimus prime because of the optional face. But then the scale with mp10 or mp44...... Well... Not in scale as a new prime😅
I decided to have him with Rodimus face on, since he is displayed carrying MP-10's matrix as if he was in the middle of his "transformation/evolution" (turning into Rodimus Prime). Yup, I regard him as a half-evolved Hot Rodimus semi Prime as seen on Transformers the Movie lol

The arms on the official look a bit better to me, but otherwise I like Hoodlum's proportions, body shape and legs better. And the smaller backpack. Official looks better in car mode so I could display him that way and Hoodlum in robot mode.
You nailed quite well the pros and cons of this figure and the official Masterpiece version... which is exactly why I cannot decide which one to get if I will buy a Hot Rod figure one day. Buying both is not an option for me.

This is a 9.9 out of 10 only flaw I found was compared to the original MP his little shirt collar lookin pieces at his neck isn’t as accurate as the original mp, and the shading on his head crest couldve been a little better
