  • George Carlin is spot-on in regards to the arrogance and self-importance that surrounds the myth about global warming (applies equally to climate change or what my grandparents called "weather".)
    Note: The original video has been edited to be more SFW.

      Yeah, generally what happens is someone learns that the climate changes naturally, and then go "ah so that is it" and think global warming is a myth, because clearly hundreds of scientists over decades never even thought about that one lol... The global warming part is the change FROM said natural change that has us worried, we already did the modelling to figure out what it SHOULD be, and it isn't matching.
      Not to mention, for the conspiracy theorists, the people who popularized/produced the first public scare in this regard was Exxon. Why would Exxon (in the 70s!), an oil company, release the model that industrialization was causing irrevocable damage, when it would have directly ruined their own earnings.

    Carlin is right, the Earth endures. What surprises me is the fact that a good number of humans cite this as a reason to not care about what we humans are doing to our planet that will lead to our own extinction or at least make those of us privileged few who consume like 80% of everything rather less comfortable, i.e., thrown back into the survival mode that dominated our species lifestyles for about 99% of our human history. Carlin's right if you listen to *all* of his rather ironic take on things.

    • @ShabbahCore
      @ShabbahCore 2 года назад +6

      Took the words straight out of my mind when I scrolled down after watching this... The earth endures, so let's cite this as a reason to bring enormous amounts of abuse and suffering upon about every living thing out there and make it's quality of life less, pain, breeding, caged life, scarring, extinction, etc etc...because, the earth endures, so it all doesn't matter right...

    • @kingofsting19
      @kingofsting19 2 года назад +2

      The Earth endures, and that's exactly why humanity needs to step up and stop polluting and overconsuming. The Earth itself doesn't care about OUR future. If we don't protect it ourselves, the Earth isn't going to step in and stop us. It's going to weather whatever we do to it, and wait us out.

      His entire point is that there *is* no point lol
      The truth is we can't put cats back in the bag. And a lot of them have gotten out. We could theoretically *halt* further degradation (if we were somehow magically able to not need things like energy and plastics anymore) but what's already been done, has already been done.
      Even most of the "fixes" are temporary at best. Trees for example vs CO2. In 100 years when that tree dies, it doesn't release just carbon dioxide back into the air, it releases *methane* which is *even worse* in terms of greenhouse.
      But what do they care? Looks good on paper, and makes them feel like they're doing something, and "in their lifetime", they are. What do they care if the situation was ultimately made worse by their actions if they are no longer around to see it when it goes down? 🤷‍♂️

    This is a classic George Carlin tactic that can confuse people: He starts off sounding very conservative and reactionary, but at some point in his rant it becomes more clear he's just holding up a mirror to our own ugliness and self-destructiveness. It's like his bit on public executions, where on the recording you can hear people enthusiastically cheering as though they unironically agree with the sentiment, but eventually it becomes so absurd you realize it's him pointing a finger at a tragic and horrifying flaw in our society: our lust for violence. If you've ever heard him talking outside of the context of a comedy bit, you'd see he's decidedly left of center (especially by today's standards). He's a once-idealist who's been disappointed too many times by his society's inability to deal with the problems it faces.

      Shoulda stuck with just 'reactionary' - assume the intelligence of your audience, especially when it's a comment on a George Carlin video.
      The reason I say it is because Carlin was obviously quite conservative in his own ways, mostly in affective ways (like - "fancy names for men piss me off") but he's also inescapably on the left because of his well-informed anti-authoritarianism. He's the kind of leftist that's conspicuously disappeared from mass media and been replaced by ineffectual liberals.

      @vicv.2720 9 лет назад +1

      +Christine Kristen When you really get down to it... the very things all you alarmist are concerned about are the very things that caused life on Earth in the first place... CO2 bellowing from the center of the Earth (by way of constant volcano activity), and the Sun heating up its surface. These are what effect our climate, not humans, and will until the day the Sun eventually burns the Earth up. So, drive your Prius if you enjoy over paying for an automobile... but your not doing yourself, nor the planet any favors. It's all in your mind... and just like the Earth goes through phases, humans also appear to go through phases. Right now we (or rather "you and those like you") are currently in the "delusional" phase. You are so self absorbed that you actually take credit for how the Earth changes. LOL... "oh please" indeed...!!! This phenomenon probably took root from a combination of the Earth's CO2 and the Suns ultraviolet rays clouding human judgment. So, you see... it is nature that is trying to get rid of humans, not the other way around.
