George Carlin: Earth with Plastic

- George Carlin is spot-on in regards to the arrogance and self-importance that surrounds the myth about global warming (applies equally to climate change or what my grandparents called "weather".)
Note: The original video has been edited to be more SFW.
The "myth" of global warming. Poor take Brainiac, did you miss the bit where Geroge said "after we’re gone" ?
Yeah, generally what happens is someone learns that the climate changes naturally, and then go "ah so that is it" and think global warming is a myth, because clearly hundreds of scientists over decades never even thought about that one lol... The global warming part is the change FROM said natural change that has us worried, we already did the modelling to figure out what it SHOULD be, and it isn't matching.
Not to mention, for the conspiracy theorists, the people who popularized/produced the first public scare in this regard was Exxon. Why would Exxon (in the 70s!), an oil company, release the model that industrialization was causing irrevocable damage, when it would have directly ruined their own earnings.
I want to play this every time a grocery store clerk asks me if I want a bag.... meanwhile there is more plastic and cardboard in the shrink flated items I bought.... what a bunch of BS!!
I throw all of my plastic away and I never recycle just in case the earth needs it.
The irony of not knowing your a part of the problem 😂
Thank you for sharing this - liked and subbed.
The Ants: All right buddies, prepare for our time!
Never fear, the Google gods have responded with a "context" label. I guess George was a little too much over the target.
You can always tell when somebody is saying something useful or entertaining that violates the enforced ideology because they think we will take them as sincere good faith actors with their injected "fact checking" and "context" without recognizing their own hypocrisy, motivations and dishonesty. Misinformation isn't solely owned by unofficial sources, not by a long shot.
I miss this guy so much! He was absurdly funny! Brilliant, razor sharp sarcasm, something we no longer see with all the stooges we have nowadays. Now I finally know why I am here!!!!! Lmao!
When I die I want to be placed in Central Park in a giant mausoleum made out of the least biodegradable materials surrounded by radioactive waste.
Please don't eat my brain when you come back from the grave, it tastes awful.
I love how I have a RUclips disclaimer on this video about climate change. Humans are interfering with the temperature of the earth… hahah… the earth is supposed to get warmer . We are at the end of an ice age . .
2023
funny thing is they are finding 1/100th of the amount of plastic we'd expect in the ocean....one theory Is that plastic eating bacteria developed >_>
Microplastics is entering my blood. I know my purpose 🥲
:D
Bad edit of a brilliant bit. Alters the transitions he made.
Folks, this has been edited down. Suggest you pass on this version.
?
Wow ty RUclips recommends. Great video. I will share this with all those arrogant climate alarmist.
Humans will be long gone, but their "plastic surgery" will survive! 🤣
To the author George does say the planet will be here, but we will be gone!!!
Yeah, that's a rather large, obvious fail/oversight on the part of the OP. I have to wonder if they actually watched the entire clip first.
@Ing: Lol, I don't think you understand what he is actually saying here.
george carlin was right about plastic. 😂
I used the plastic bag analogy in my exam ... and I passed XD
Ah hahahahaha
@Roald-Shabani Hodo 👍👍
made a joke on that on a chat group...also nailed it👍
You realize that he's not saying anything you think he is in regards to Global warming/Climate change right?
Did you even watch the video? Thanks for reading the description, though.
Emperor Ing Haha you don't get it. That's funny.
Emperor Ing You're really a special kind of stupid. The point of the bit in the video is that the Earth is going to be just fine but it's the Human Beings who are going to disappear as a result of the damage we're doing. He's not saying that Climate change is a myth...he's saying then the same thing that Neal Degrasse Tyson is saying now. The Earth will continue to be a planet LONG after we've made it uninhabitable for human life.
Alvin Zeidenfeld Whatever lets you sleep at night, man.
Emperor Ing Thankfully, the planet will shake you-- and the rest of us-- off like a bad case of fleas.
Carlin is right, the Earth endures. What surprises me is the fact that a good number of humans cite this as a reason to not care about what we humans are doing to our planet that will lead to our own extinction or at least make those of us privileged few who consume like 80% of everything rather less comfortable, i.e., thrown back into the survival mode that dominated our species lifestyles for about 99% of our human history. Carlin's right if you listen to *all* of his rather ironic take on things.
Took the words straight out of my mind when I scrolled down after watching this... The earth endures, so let's cite this as a reason to bring enormous amounts of abuse and suffering upon about every living thing out there and make it's quality of life less, pain, breeding, caged life, scarring, extinction, etc etc...because, the earth endures, so it all doesn't matter right...
The Earth endures, and that's exactly why humanity needs to step up and stop polluting and overconsuming. The Earth itself doesn't care about OUR future. If we don't protect it ourselves, the Earth isn't going to step in and stop us. It's going to weather whatever we do to it, and wait us out.
It's funny because if you miss the impact of the punchline "The planet isn't going anywhere.... we are!" it sounds like the opposite argument. I love how he seems to be on one side, but then flips the joke. RIP George.
His entire point is that there *is* no point lol
The truth is we can't put cats back in the bag. And a lot of them have gotten out. We could theoretically *halt* further degradation (if we were somehow magically able to not need things like energy and plastics anymore) but what's already been done, has already been done.
Even most of the "fixes" are temporary at best. Trees for example vs CO2. In 100 years when that tree dies, it doesn't release just carbon dioxide back into the air, it releases *methane* which is *even worse* in terms of greenhouse.
But what do they care? Looks good on paper, and makes them feel like they're doing something, and "in their lifetime", they are. What do they care if the situation was ultimately made worse by their actions if they are no longer around to see it when it goes down? 🤷♂️
@@MadScientist267 ty for this. You’re the only one with any god damn sense. It doesn’t matter lol. Earth will endure. Until it’s end. There is no stopping extinction.
This is a classic George Carlin tactic that can confuse people: He starts off sounding very conservative and reactionary, but at some point in his rant it becomes more clear he's just holding up a mirror to our own ugliness and self-destructiveness. It's like his bit on public executions, where on the recording you can hear people enthusiastically cheering as though they unironically agree with the sentiment, but eventually it becomes so absurd you realize it's him pointing a finger at a tragic and horrifying flaw in our society: our lust for violence. If you've ever heard him talking outside of the context of a comedy bit, you'd see he's decidedly left of center (especially by today's standards). He's a once-idealist who's been disappointed too many times by his society's inability to deal with the problems it faces.
He's just smart enough to know that the established power of both sides is completely full of shit, and point that out to all.
Shoulda stuck with just 'reactionary' - assume the intelligence of your audience, especially when it's a comment on a George Carlin video.
The reason I say it is because Carlin was obviously quite conservative in his own ways, mostly in affective ways (like - "fancy names for men piss me off") but he's also inescapably on the left because of his well-informed anti-authoritarianism. He's the kind of leftist that's conspicuously disappeared from mass media and been replaced by ineffectual liberals.
Yep. He literally points out that WE will be gone. It’s not the planet we will be saving. It’s us and our ability to live on it.
He was really just a bitter old man in the end.
I think Carlin was wise enough and savvy enough to see beyond 'left and right' (unlike most people that are distracted by mainstream media) and identify hypocrisy, corruption, absurdity and stupidity, which is evenly distributed among all people and systems of control regardless of the political allegiance. YMMV
It's not the plastic bags that are a threat - it's the plastic people.
Yeah, but ATFER the "interference with nature", humans need to do something that will at least partly repair the damage! Why couldn't Carlin understand that? We can't just sit aside and let it get worse and worse...
scientifically speaking, this guy is 100% accurate... for example when trees first evolved on the planet, they were just like plastic, totally unbiodegradable. but life evolved eventually to degrade them. BTW, coal is the outcome of this period called the Carboniferous.
If the Earth was a calender..Humans would only take 2 hours on the last day of year..
The Earth has been here a long long time before humans..and it will be here a long long time after humans. The Earth doesnt need humans..Humans need the earth.
This guy deserves millions of views on all his videos.
He’s been dead quite a while.
It's all tongue-in-cheek and wonderful satire. The man was a genius.
Is it really satire?
@@Zero01k It's literally exactly true. The Earth was here billions of years before man, it'll be here billions of years after man.
The _EARTH_ is in no danger; man may be, not Earth.
@@Zero01k It is not satire. Don't let that hippy-dippy ponytail fool you. He's not a liberal when it comes to climate change.
@@dorabellar.8326 he told the truth.
“When the earth starts to settle, god throws a stone at it! Trust me, he’s ending up!” -Ultron
That’s means the earth will take care of itself. We aren’t hurting it, we’re only hurting ourselves. Our extinction is inevitable. It’s a no brainer that we are changing the earths climate, but it doesn’t matter. Humanity never stood a chance. EVERYTHING has an end.
@@josephgaviota man is, and always has been in danger. Extinction is inevitable. There is no outcome where human life as we know it survives.
Love george Carlin although the op is definitely projecting his own opinion on global warming being a myth. Which is never said.
That’s kinda The point of a stand up comedy show.... giving your opinions
@@vincentbryan1962 No, this guy was referring to the description of the video being the projected opinion of the guy who posted the video. He was not referring to George Carlin.
Both him a George agree to the same opinion, what's the issue? Perhaps you drank too much of their propaganda programming and it made you feel offended?
@@TheGenericDavis RUclips automatically places those on videos that gain lots of traction and get flagged by its systems as "disinformation" aka anything that opposes RUclips's and Google's corporate agendas.
George’s whole point, that wasn’t missed by anyone with an IQ of at least 80, is that our industrial practices are an extreme threat to humanity and other life on Earth, but not the planet itself. Unless you think George is a genuine misanthropist, it’s safe to say he is not on the side of subhuman conservatives who can’t see more than one step ahead.
This man just won Humanity.
Been telling people for years, we're here to make plastic
Awesome plastic.
I think he may have been right. Hemp Plastic could help the world and not harm it at all
Rip to the great
News flash ... scientists are baffled by a new phenomenon...rocks are fusing with plastic creating a new category of earth substance...Carlin was right again 😅
He is right, the planet will be here, but we could be here for some more years if we do care about pollution. I agree with him in the long run but not in the short.
It's not a discussion on the fact that we can somehow influence the environment. It's more of a reflection on the hypocrisy and self-centeredness of people pretending to "save the planet" while if they were honest they should say "we need to save ourselves".
How arrogant is it to say that saving our own petty selves is equivalent to "saving the planet" ?...
Yellowstone will be a good "Earth shower" to wash humans off the planet. Next...
Yellowstone?? Ahh that's cute... Imagine my country Indonesia,, ring of fire right underneath my bedroom🤣🤣
George Carlin, the sage!
"the myth about global warming"
hmmm.....
yeah. ok.
You cut out the best part
2024
This but unironically
And he's still right. We'll be taking care of ourselves, not the planet, by keeping plastics out of the rivers and seas.
"the myth about global warming" - oh please - educate yourself. you might start here: climate.nasa.gov/evidence/
+Christine Kristen When you really get down to it... the very things all you alarmist are concerned about are the very things that caused life on Earth in the first place... CO2 bellowing from the center of the Earth (by way of constant volcano activity), and the Sun heating up its surface. These are what effect our climate, not humans, and will until the day the Sun eventually burns the Earth up. So, drive your Prius if you enjoy over paying for an automobile... but your not doing yourself, nor the planet any favors. It's all in your mind... and just like the Earth goes through phases, humans also appear to go through phases. Right now we (or rather "you and those like you") are currently in the "delusional" phase. You are so self absorbed that you actually take credit for how the Earth changes. LOL... "oh please" indeed...!!! This phenomenon probably took root from a combination of the Earth's CO2 and the Suns ultraviolet rays clouding human judgment. So, you see... it is nature that is trying to get rid of humans, not the other way around.
+Vic V. - Scicheck (a division of factcheck.org) has an excellent short video on exactly this topic: www.factcheck.org/2015/12/video-climate-change-claims/
+Robert Kaussner Nice try... but just because a bunch of paid political hacks create a site called "Factcheck" don't make it so. Sort of like when Obama calls his healthcare "Affordable" Care Act (when costs are skyrocketing). The left have always been great at naming things for exactly what they are the opposite of being. So, more to the point your webpage should be renamed to "Fictioncheck".
"FICTIONCHECK... "HaHaHa... all bought and paid for by a grant from the President of CBS... HAHAHA...!!! There's a "non-partisan" source for sure. What a bone head...!!!

when was the last time on earth there were a billion registered cars?
with some few more billion unregistered cars (That are even less efficient)
and
We also have coal power plants
Fuel power plants
We burn wood to heat homes (or gas)
We strip mine
We destroy forests
Ecosystems
We live on this thin player of Earth
Earth as George says is fine, 4.6 billion years old.....
The biosphere isnt...
its been through hell
Issac Asimov was talking about it in the 80s
and how the scientific community had been stating it for some time (almost a century)
We have records, use them.....
In past and present agrarian societies people loved global warming as their crops were getting more sunlight along with the spring rain creating a boon harvest! I also believe that I recall in the 1980's the complainers were gripping about global cooling!!! Like George says...some people are just always into complaining. Life's short...be happy people, go to the poles and vote or run for office, I guess.
my good friend tree said when George Carlin speaks " why are you laughing " he speaking the truth
They're just shut up your comedian NADA scientist
The greatest of all time! FOREVER.
Save the 🐝 🍯
Global warming isn’t a threat to life on earth, it’s a threat to our life on earth! I love this joke.. don’t save the earth.. fucking save our selves
Look up microplastics in humans.
Pure genius.
Excellent and so true!!

The. Smartest. Guy. On. Earth. Ever.
What a humble way to hide away from one's own ignorance.
He would have loved this CCP virus pandemic. Sorry that he could not see what he predicted coming true.
GROSS
Yeah, C02 my arse!
Boy, was he wrong. Too bad he didn't keep this nonsense to himself.
Rather dated beliefs, but a percentage of it still stands. He'd be singing a different tune nowadays.
George Carlin got it right from beyond the grave. A story just released on April 23, 2023 and the headline is "The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is So Large, Coastal Ecosystems are Thriving on it, Scientists Say."
I wonder how George would feel about RUclips's "disinformation context" notice from the United Nations appearing on his video
xD RIP. Lov3
😭😂😘❤❤❤
"The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic [...]. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us."
- George Carlin
George it the nail on the head… Although, if he were still with us, his routine would undoubtedly include plastic straws, cow farts and gas powered lawnmowers. In my day the panic was the pending ice age, gas shortage and water shortage. The commercial had a small boys asking, “Will there be gas for me when I grow up?” and another commercial said, “Save water… shower with a friend! 😂😂
Not sure I appreciate his humour.
no no the dude has a point.
Aside from his views on Eternity, Carlin might be surprised that he’s more in line with Conservative Americans than he ever would have believed.
Absolutely nothing could be further from the truth. He wasn't shy about what thought about conservatives. What he didn't like then has only gotten worse.
Agree with most but one point here. The planet is not 4 and half billion years old. I am a young earth guy. 7,000 maybe!
So you're a wrong guy?
