Best of luck to your wife...... I think the hardest part for me was coming to grips with the fact that I needed them......and wondering what my husband would think. Good for you for supporting her through this. It makes the whole thing much easier.

@MrMeanderthal You are SO right and I should have mentioned that because that was another discussion we had in humanities. With men it's not so much about appearance, they don't have to worry about makeup, cosmetic surgery, etc-but men are definitely judged by their masculinity and any hint of a soft side isn't received well. Another social stigma that needs to be laid to rest. Thanks for your input!

Very awesome! I own a dental laboratory in Long Beach, CA and am a third generation dental lab owner where we have specialized in only dentures and removable prosthetics for over 60 years. We most of the time aren't able to see the outcome of what we create and its awesome to hear your stories!

Thank You so much for your videos! This is something I have struggled with as long as I can remember. I will be 35 in March and I finally made an appointment. Your vidoes helped me be confident that I am doing the right thing. When I was younger I struggled with not having straight teeth. After bad family genes, 3 kids, smoking, pop and coffee they have got worse. I NEVER SMILE! I started getting a lot of dental work done. Crowns, root canals, fillings and it was falling apart as fast as I was getting it done. I have my first appointment Jan. 20. Im super excited, even more excited after watching your videos. Thank You for giving me the confidence I need to go through with it. I am excited to finally smile, and wear lip stick! Its always been a hard subject for me to talk about too. You really helped this become a lot easier for me.

I just want to say thank you. You helped me feel so much better. I get a full extraction tomorrow and will leave with dentures in my mouth. I'm scared to death.. You nailed everything you talked about. Thanks for keeping it real. You look so beautiful with your dentures. I hope I look half as good. You made me feel less stressed also so thank you for that. I wish you the very best with your new baby coming. Thanks for sharing your views.☺

That's a good perspective. If you watch more of my videos, you will see that I also feel implants (in many cases) are more preferable to dentures. But many people don't have the financial option of getting implants, myself included. I have even entered a contest to win implants. So no, I am not a "denture manufacturer". I am a stay-at-home-mom who had bad teeth that had to go. Dentures were my only option. Please watch more of my videos and learn a little more about me before making assumptions.

Good on you for making and sharing this video.
I have just been through the process of having an upper denture.
I had awful teeth for many years and it affected my diet and my confidence hugely.
I have been a professional singer for many years so that was also another worry when it came to having a denture.
I would like to reassure anyone gong through this process that it is worth it in the end and I'm delighted with the results. I can now eat properly and it has had very little effect on my singing if anything it's slightly improved.
I had the instant denture, yesterday was my last appointment where the denture is "refilled" after the gums have healed and receded. Now the fit is perfect again and I can literally eat anything.
It has changed my life... At first it does feel like a mouth full of lego but you get used to it and it just feels normal.
Thanks again to the brave lady for making this video. There is no shame in having false teeth... It isn't ideal but some people like myself have crappy genetics in the teeth department and no amount of brushing will save you! Good luck to anyone going through this.. It's awful having crappy ugly teeth I had almost 20 years of it ruining my appearance and confidence. Thankfully that's over now.

I really appreciate this video. I am currently on a journey to getting partial dentures. After years of being ashamed of my mouth, afraid to smile around people, I'm actually excited! And I really don't care what people have to say about it. I feel I don't have to disclose such personal information with anyone that I am not close with. I am the only one who can make me happy, no one can do that for me. So I choose not to tell, and that is what will make me happy. Thanks again for this video.

In conclusion, when I was able to talk and eat, Rick always supported me during that time. Our friends really love my new smile, and Rick is still with me. I am very lucky to have Rick in my life......He was my anchor during the dentures adventure! :) Now I can smile, I feel better, I'm back at work as a flight attendant, and life is great. I also have a friend in Colorado that I plan on meeting after a year of texting back and forth.
It's a long story but he has some mental issues that will prevent me from seeking any more than a friendship with him. I am still nervous about telling him and by the time I meet him, I may have the dentures in so will see what happens but you are correct about tell those who are close to you about ones dentures.

it's good to hear the perspective from a young denture wearer. the problem lays more socially than functionally. The last case i had when i extracted 13 teeth from a early 40's lady, she was crying in the chair, not from pain from the extraction but from the fact that she was going to be losing the rest of her remaining teeth due to decay and will now need dentures.

CONGRATS TO YOU!!! I liked your video but I want you to know something: In September of 2012, I found out I had a very nasty bad bacteria infection on my upper teeth, and had to have oral surgery w/ dentures put in after that....my Partner Rick has been with me for 25 years, and he was with me when we got the news about the oral surgery.....he was very supportive during that adventure. WHen my face swelled up and had bruises, he didn't leave....he stayed right by my bedside.

At first I thought you were going to be snobby about people wearing dentures. I kept listening though and was pleasantly surprised. I've spent nearly $20,000 in the past 18 years on root canals and caps But they fall off eventually. I have problems due to too much medications when I was a child. I didn't want to give up but I see the improvements since my Mom got her first set of dentures. Thank you for these videos. You're a lovely woman inside and out.

I have to comment on that. My girlfriend is 23 and she will be needing dentures and I accept her 100% whether or not her teeth are real. Advantage or not it's who you are in the inside that makes all the difference. Either you love them for them or you don't. Love doesn't discriminate.

Congrats! Another great video, thank you for taking time out to address these issues :) I am having all of my teeth pulled in 2 surgeries by the end of May and I won't lie, I'm scared. But I spoke to my girlfriend months ago about it and it's just something we both agreed is healthier and better than if I just keep getting root canals and work on teeth that will always be bad. Sometimes dentures are the best option. Cheers to you!

I'm 79 and I feel the same way! I don't have a husband anymore but it was embarrassing when I was. The older you get, the worse you look so if your relationship is that shallow, you are going to be alone. Your spouse gets old too and REAL love grows with age because of your relationship, not your looks. If looks were love's criteria, nobody over 55 would be together!! It's just harder to accept imperfections when you're young and beautiful like most young people are. You are very beautiful not just because you're young but because you're smart, honest and real.

  • @crystalsmith520

Thanks for the video, it was a very good explaination, of dentures, and how they made you feel. You are a very intelligent young lady, and down to earth. It is so true what you said about accepted people for who they are inside and not what they look like. That's why so many people are fooled because everything that looks good is not good for you, and it is about the spirit of who you are. Congrats on your pregnacy, keep smiling girl and love you telling like it is.

i'm sick of the pain, cost and aggravation of always having to deal with my dental issues...
most of what i have to deal with is genetic and has been passed on to me by hereditary.

i did hide this from someone i wa swith for 3 years i actually lived with hi but he was alot younger than me as it was and i he had never seen me before dentures and i had such bad teeth, so for me dentrues was a wonderful blessing, but, at the time i only had the uppers and i cant believe he never noticed , finally i told him, that relationship did finally end, my next partner is my age and i was able to tell him after sometime of dating and he is fine with it, and i had to spend 6 months without lowers because i had to have a secondary surgury on my gums because the gums healed boney and i had to get them shaved down, so all the healing time and the time it took to have them made,i had my bfs support and he never judged me!!

I think it's quite courageous of you to share your experiences as you have. I stumbled upon your video and feel the need to offer a comment. I am a dentist, in practice 23 years, placed hundreds of dentures. My concern given your young age is the future outlook for your ability to function with the denture as you age. The problem stems from the reality that once the teeth are gone the bone resorbs. This effect is more pronounced in the lower arch.

I'm one week into having dentures. I don't wear them much right now because my mouth is so swollen but I can't wait to have them in all day. I have a very important question. How long did it take you to feel "normal" wearing your dentures? And how long did it take you to talk good with your dentures. Your videos are helping me so much and I want to thank you for being a support to us young women with dentures. I'm just starting my journey and my mouth is very painful.

    • @patmelton43
      @patmelton43 10 лет назад

Anne Dempster Although I got my upper plate years ago (like in 1962) I had the dentures put in immediately. I was only 17. At first I told everyone immediately. But since I was so young they kept thinking that I meant I had my teeth "fixed" not pulled. I think after about 6 weeks of wearing them every day - not taking them out except to clean them, I no longer had a lot of pain. Of course, you have to toughen up your gums and eventually the upper teeth feel just like your real teeth. The lower teeth are a different thing. I still take my lower teeth out at night. I think it would be wise to invest in permanent teeth for the lowers. I'm thinking of doing it even though I am very old now.

This is how we ran across your video's and i must say, my wife has been very nervous about this journey but she has become more relaxed since watching your videos. thanks for posting this video. if my significant other needs denture, i don't see any issues with that. I think it's very important to have rotten teeth removed and dentures can be a very good way to replace them. there should be no shame in wearing dentures tho it might be unexpected for someone younger. but even though it's not expected, dentures is nonetheless a good solution for some people. most issues i have with people wear dentures is it not fitting or can't eat right.

If a woman has a problem with your denture, she is not the kind of woman you should be dating. As long as you are a good guy with a good attitude and know how to treat people, your denture shouldn't create problems for you in the dating world. If the tables were turned and I found out my husband wore dentures, I would have still dated him because he is a great guy with a great personality. If a woman has a problem with your dentures, keep moving.

I could not imagine lying or hiding who I am/what I'm made of to anyone. I can understand not mentioning it in the very early stages of getting to know someone, but once you enter into a relationship if you cant be honest, than you're not even giving the person the chance to accept you for who you are.
Congrats on the 4th! Which makes me wonder, did your experience help to shape you as a diligent mom when it comes to teaching your kids about dental hygiene?

Been watching your vids and your journey. I am impressed with your courage to share your experiences. I agree 100% that it should never be a secret about anything health wise you suffer from you hide from your spouse. I'm just curious as to how you hid the condition of your teeth from the man you married. Did you never open your mouth at all even when dating? That aside to me as a man I wouldn't care if the woman I married had a double mastectomy, a glass eye or couldn't have kids. Our journey simply takes a different path. Happily, orthodontic problems are a cosmetic one that has a relatively small fix in the big scheme of life. You happen to be an extremely attractive woman and your new smile is an inspiration to anyone who watches also in need of dental work. Feel confident that your husband is one lucky man!

I know so many beautiful women with low self-esteem and struggle that I do not wish for myself at all. so yes, beauty is inner state. I got it after 45, sadly. However we all exist in the time and place where we suppose to be. this very message took off a heavy load of my own"lost years" and "failed relationships". Now I, for the first time in a long time thinking about meeting the guy. Except now I have much better view of what kind he has to be. Turn out : I become less judgmental.

I would STRONGLY suggest you find a way to have 2 implants placed in the lower jaw in the canine position if possible. The presence of the implants will preserve and support the bone in this area and prevent the resorptive phenomenon. The denture can be made to snap in place over the implants and will significantly improve the function of the denture. Long term you will prevent some serious potential future issues. DO IT now why you are young and have the bone available! Cost can be less than 4K

I was raised by parents to do not believe in dental care. When I turned 18 years old I went to the dentist for cleaning, he said I would have dentures by the time I was 24 because of a lack of dental care of the child. I'm 42 now I tried to save him as long as I could. There's no getting around it I'm going in for dentures on October 1. I am scared to death, did you have any problems getting used to your dentures such as gagging?. Congratulations on the new baby on the way.

Hi Kristi, am I correct in recalling that you went to Coast Dental for your tooth extractions and dentures? My brother, at 28, went to Coast Dental in Orlando 3 yrs ago and is THRILLED with their work and I have an appt with Coast Dental next week in Boynton Beach for a consult to discuss removing all my teeth (what I have left) and getting upper and lower dentures (I'm 46). Also, this video helped my husband come to grips with my decision, of which I thank you with all my heart! Susy K.

Agree with you 100% . I have had mine for than 25 years since I was young. I use this issue as a test of the relationship. I don't say this on a fist date naturally. But if I feel it may go somewhere, then I reveal. If they don't except it, I know that person does not accept the whole me. I have never have had anyone react negatively. I Don't let this define you and how lovable you are. I am to the point, I don't even care anymore. Yeah! I am partially fake and plastic")

@stanley526 Thank you! Have you been practicing speaking to yourself? In your spare time you should read things out loud and focus on the sounds you are having problems with and keep practicing until you get used to saying it properly. I said the same thing about wishing I had done it sooner but hey, better late than never!
