Back again with yet another review! Enjoy! - I've got a lot more reviews coming up soon as I've got an overwhelming amount of videos in the making; Stay tuned!
Is there a homekit compatible camera already? Don’t want to save my videos in China’s server. Apple already can save security videos directly to the iCloud Server.
I'm seeing a lot of people commenting that it can only record 10s, maybe it was like that before, but right now it can record 10s up to 30s and the retrigger interval can be also set between 10s and 60s
Question: do you use iPhone to connect to the ec2 gateway? I can't have any android phones including Xiaomi phone to connect the gateway. Mi Home app on Android phones can't detect the gateway.
Just git my hands on 4x of the cameras. They are working awesome. But I already asked the Imilab team for implementing a NAS upload into the next update. Just like the dome cameras who automatically upload everything to your own nas at home.
Question, I want to buy a couple of these but I also want an alarm like the aqara (not the new mi hub 3 which has no led or speaker), does the EC2 and the aqara hub work on the same ecosystem? Same android app?
I have both the EC2 (in Chinese version) and the XiaoVV. I must say I greatly prefer the XiaoVV. The EC2's motion detection and mobile alert is much worse. Sometimes I walked pass right in front of it, there was no alert triggered, no record at all. And when there is no alert, it means no record even though I have SD Card installed. So with such bad motion detection, I barely have anything to see in my SD card, which means I can benefit from it from live viewing only. When I want to see what happened during the day, I just can't because there was no trigger, so no record. With XiaoVV, most motions are recorded and alerted, and I can also see continuous playback from big capacity 128GB SD Card. Its viewing angle is very wide. So for any outdoor areas where I don't really absolutely ultimately need to go wireless, I will definitely pick XiaoVV over EC2. Also one other note, the EC2 gateway (Chinese version), CANNOT install 4 cameras. It is one camera per one gateway. I wrote to Imilab and they confirmed so, at least for now. I have 2 EC2 cameras and I have to install seperately on 2 EC2 gateways. Another thing that I don't like about EC2 is that on the Mi Home app, EC2 camera is not shown in camera page like other models. I have to dig into each EC2 gateway to see each EC2 camera each time I want to see a live view. I have to click about 3-4 times to view it and go back back back to dig into another camera, and it is really annoying and time consuming. I think security camera should be easy and instant enough for user to see an event at a specific moment. So I recommend those who are considering to buy EC2 to reconsider if these cons are OK for you.
But can the Global version of the EC2 gateway install more than one camera? 1 camera per gateway is really lame. Man, I should have Read your comment before I ordered.
@CHUAH XIN YI Moe Hello, sorry for may late reply. I live in Bangkok, Thailand. I didn't buy these EC2 from Taobao. I bought them from a Chinese seller on "Lazada", a popular shopping platform we use here in Thailand. The seller shipped from China. (But I don't know where the seller bought them from). I can use these two EC2 here in Bangkok without any modification. Just plug in and setup. Anyway, I use Chinese Mainland server on Mi Home. Hope this help.
@@mrt8096 Hello, sorry for my late reply. I'm not sure about Global version because I don't have one. But yeah, 1 camera per 1 gateway is really lame, and weird. I was also surprised.. Anyway, hope your EC2 works decent for you. I'm still using them quite ok.
@@mrt8096 Oh, nice! I think I will try to reinstall on the same gateway too. Maybe they have upgraded the firmware to do that. Thanks for letting me know.
Hello. Would like to know if the EC2 (Global Version) can be connected to Chinese servers? This is because they are only selling global version in Malaysia however my other Xiaomi devices are all connected to China server. Many thanks and await for your reply.
It does not support live feed over IP. As of right now, it's only accessible through the Mi Home APP... I would also love to see a desktop version of the Mijia APP; that would be a great start!
@@xiaomify Good to know, thanks! That is indeed something I miss with a lot of brands, alternative ways to access things. That's where things like Openhab and HA come in handy.
Great video again.Thank you for reviewing this product, I have this on my shopping list for next year and was curious about the product. Keep up the good work ✌.
Hi, my camera battery got empty.. to 0% When im connecting it to charger the camera starting to work, but whe im unplugging the charger its turning off immediately, like the battery is not working at all. What should i do?
I wanted to knows if it is programmable? something like you can Schedule when he should turn on and do his job. let's say you only want him to record and do motion detection at 12noon onward until 8am
It only records upon motion detection by the IR sensor at the front of the camera (i.e. does not do video analytics based motion detection). You can set to any period of time (i.e. 8am to 12pm, 8pm to 4am, etc.) for the camera to go into recording mode. There is no continuous recording mode. Each clip is 10 seconds, there will be a 60 seconds break (shortest) before another clip will be taken (major deal breaker, they better correct this fast.)
Can a solar panel be connected to the camera? to avoid charging the batteries? And the other question is that I have the Xiaomi 2k camera inside and I wanted to see if the Xiaomi camera works as a gateway, since it has the way to connect with other Xiaomi devices through Bluetooth
Hello, I have a problem with connecting the EC2 webcam to the gate that was included in the set. After numerous resets of the application for adding gates and resetting the network settings of the phone and the webcam, he gets a message with the gate after uploading 100% in the process of adding the webcam, he receives an error with the name "Connection failed" despite the fact that he is following the instructions included in the set and in the application. Regards
Hi, first of all love your videos. Noticed you mentioned that u have been using for 3months on the first charge. So it doesn't have continues recording but given is outdoor and consistently there are movement so could this be say as the device was consistently use for 3 months?
Had a really disappointing experience with this one, first of all the automatic triggering works horribly, partly it was probably a hardware defect. It only can start recording once (10s) within 70s interval. So anything else is lost. It also killed my Sandisk extreme plus card, and it stopped recording until charged, when it showed 80% battery (within less than a month of usage). Plus the app connectivity sucked really bad. Generally all IP cameras have some sort of delays and drawbacks. But anything this camera tries to solve, is overwhelmed by a even bigger drawback.
I experience the same significant limitations: - Can record only 10 seconds per video with Monitoring Mode and need at least 60 seconds break (interval) to start recording again. Almost everything you need to capture both video and audio is lost in that 70 seconds! No continuous recording like Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360° (MJSXJ02CM). - Wi-Fi connection is very slow (buffering a lot) when compare to other devices because the camera itself has to connect to Wi-Fi through/via Gateway first. However this Camera is more suitable with some situations/environments like outdoor area without wire connection and doesn't need serious consecutive/continuous recording. PS. I am willingly to trade off Battery Life with longer record time, 10 seconds is really too short.
That’s too bad, I wanna try another IP Cam from different brand.. currently I use a cheap YYP2P for outdoor that’s pretty darn good for its price (less than $50) with motion-detection, night-vision, remote control the camera, etc.
Very good review my friend. I have 4 of these cameras, they are fantastic. One question: When you watch live, what is the difference between "HD" and "Speed"? I don't see any difference in the image.. Thank you...
Can the camera record continuously and not just while there is movement? Is it possible to connect the camera to electricity in addition to the battery?
I bought two of this cctv but then I just found out that there is no continuous playback. Can you recommend a wireless outdoor cctv with continuous playback please?
Clip lenght has increased up to 30s, I still find it very short. They should make this avaiable up to 10 minutes. Retrigger interval also should be avaiable from 30 seconds or less. This way the camera could monitor more and cover users demands. I need it recording longer clips and with less intervals.
I'm waiting until Xiaomi comes up with QHD or 4K CCTV cameras that are also wireless. I have the Xiaomi 1080p cam and it works great (though I bricked the other one when I updated it via the Home App) but our house to the street is quite far and the camera can't make out car plate numbers.
How this cameras support the human detection? I have two “old” YI Outdoor cameras and without this function they capture a lot of false movements like car headlights, insects during the night, and so on. Am I the only one?
Does anyone know if you can add two Gateways and therefore 2 cameras on the Chinese server? It still doesn't support multiple cameras on one gateway :(
Do you think it's a better choice than the Yi outdoor cam? Does this also have a feature where you can schedule the time it records and just by motion?
The main difference between this and the Yi is that this one actually works with the Mi Home APP (If that's something that you're looking for) The Yi camera only works with the YI APP. It does have a feature where you can schedule the time it will notify and record on certain days and/or certain times only.

Please test Xiaomi Flood Light Camera (finally a floodlight!) which just appeared in the Mi Home app. However I cannot find any link to this device in the Internet.
I have seen it appear recently as well and would love to review that! Unfortunately I have not seen it in store just yet, so I am guessing it's in the APP for testing purposes. Love to review it whenever it gets released though!
I just found my camera's usb charging port full of ice, as well as every hole under that allegedly waterproof rubber cover... I had to let is sit and defrost to be able to charge the camera... In the meantime, my other camera just decided to not work at all... not charging, not recording when motion triggered, not reseting, not blinking when turned off and on again, and since I removed it from my list in order to try and reconnect it, it is worthlessly sitting in my drawer now... :(
I wonder how was the review after a month or so…mine always having problems with connection….i bought the item after watching enticing reviews from youtube…
Anyone know why is my camera keeps recording all night even there is no movement's??? My battery life is like 10x lower then it should be bcs it record every 2-10min..
I will try to explain it. When there is a movement the camera records a video, if the movement continues, the camera starts to record the next video after 5 (or 10, 20, 30, 60) seconds. So, as I anderstand, "retrigger interval" is the period of time the camera waits to record the next video, when the camera records several videos in a row...
I noticed something on my unit. You can only access your recorded videos on the cloud ONLY if the Gateway/Hub is ON connected. If the Gateway/Hub is stolen, there is no way to access any recorded videos on the cloud. Do point me in the right direction if I am wrong.
Looks great on paper but compared with the Netgear Arlo cameras, this one is very buggy. You can’t connect more than one camera to the hub so you can’t view all connected cameras on one page. Trying to connect a second or third camera to the hub is an exercise in frustration. Each camera needs its own hub. The Arlo cameras cost 3x more but 4x less frustration. Xiaomi needs to upgrade this firmware. The camera is well made but the software is not. The reviewer didn’t do a good job in checking out stuff like adding more than one cameras. It’s an incomplete review
I tried to add 2 more cameras. Failed. The two additional cameras will only appear randomly but more often than not, only the first camera will show. Adding a new camera to the hub is at best, an exercise in frustration. They really need to fix this
@@casioguy Hi, I have 2 cameras, one of them I configured and it connected me the first time, but the other one does not want to connect me. It gives me an error. I have only one hub. What am I doing wrong ? Do I need another hub for the other camera?
Does that mean I can connect the China version to the global version hub without changing the Mihome region to China? Means I can get 1 global version and then 3 China version and connect them all to the global hub, without changing Mihome region to China. Because I already have a few global version xiaomi products on Mihome and they won't work if I change to region to China.
Radver Lee does not work in usa, i tried changing region yo “Chinese mainland” and other areas and says not available in your area. Is this no good now?
I think it must have been the connection. (The speaker test was not on the same day as I had submerged it in water) I did have some better results with the speaker; but when I was recording the actual audio this was what I got
Great review, thanks! My camera works fine, but just for live feeds. It's connected through European server. I've bought Kingston 64GB MicroSD card (U1/C10 as noted in instructions), but when I check it out in Mi Home app (in Memory management) it shows "No SD card". So first I've put unformatted card, then formatted it to exFAT in Macbook and Windows laptop and in all 3 cases I get "No SD card". Does anyone have any idea what to do? I'll try to switch to China server tomorrow, but besides that I am out of ideas :( EDIT: I was able to fix this by switching Mi Home app to Chinese mainland server. But first I had to update firmware (which was another thing that failed on European server). Micro SD card was detected correctly.
i bought this a few days after watching this (( 14 dec 2019) i just found out it died now it wont charge anymore (15 march 2021) too bad .. its was a nice one. I also bough a second one( without gateway ) after reading that you can attach max 4 on 1 gateway... not if you have the CN version and or use the china server then it wont work only the global version use the non CN server you can attach more than 1 unit on the gateway which it provided . lucky me now i can use the spare one . otherwise it would laying around since my other Mi products using CN server
We are well aware that the camera has a battery. We also know that it loses its capacity for autonomy over time. Have you tested the possibility that the camera is always connected to electricity? Decreases watter proof capacity?
After watching your review I bought the unit it works fine for a few months then died on me it won't charge any more ( I have charge it twice) so I also got a second one and today it also died on me too and this one I didn't get to charge it once .I think they put lousy rechargable battery in it . I don't recommend this for people to buy . Anyone know how to open this unit so that maybe I can put new better rechargable battery in it to try to revive it?
At the moment it does not support onvif or any feed over IP.... Perhaps support might be added in the future, or someone might write code for it? But right now it's only accessible through the Mi Home APP
There are hubless cams out there, with Alexa or Google Assistent integration. This product does record to an SD when inserted though. Video over bluetooth is not possible though because of the bandwith limitations of bluetooth.
Can’t recommend it. I always have to reconnect the gateway and it rarely works. It constantly says “ bring closer to router” but it is 2 inches away from router.
I haven't seen it pop up in the Google Home list and it's not being mentioned that this is being supported. Perhaps in the future they might add support but I wouldn't know for sure.... What would you be interested in setting up that requires google home?
Is this able to work

@@FrostbeatzMusic How is it possible to connect in the program? I have two cameras but i don't find option to activate both cameras for one hub.
What if I buy 3 camera? Am I have to have 3 LAN cable to router?
3 camera only 1 hub....why need 3 lan cable? Just connected the lan to the hub...3 camera will commect to hub wirelessly
Use outdoor?
Will you review the LOOCK CATEYE?
please bro answer me , what its mean retrigger interval ?
If they store it in the cloud instead of direct play from SD card, then this is a bug. Please contact them, so that they fix it in the software.
How long are bangood shipits?
Looks great on paper but compared with the Netgear Arlo cameras, this one is very buggy. You can’t connect more than one camera to the hub so you can’t view all connected cameras on one page. Trying to connect a second or third camera to the hub is an exercise in frustration. Each camera needs its own hub. The Arlo cameras cost 3x more but 4x less frustration. Xiaomi needs to upgrade this firmware. The camera is well made but the software is not. The reviewer didn’t do a good job in checking out stuff like adding more than one cameras. It’s an incomplete review
Can it be used to watch and hear a newborn's voice?
Can the audio always be kept open without holding down the microphone button
How add 3 camara on the gateway?
I tried to add 2 more cameras. Failed. The two additional cameras will only appear randomly but more often than not, only the first camera will show. Adding a new camera to the hub is at best, an exercise in frustration. They really need to fix this
@@casioguy Hi, I have 2 cameras, one of them I configured and it connected me the first time, but the other one does not want to connect me. It gives me an error. I have only one hub.
What am I doing wrong ? Do I need another hub for the other camera?
3:08 but it's not intended to be submerge
So let's submerge it.
LOL
Hi..can it record video without wifi connection?
No.
The SD card is in the HUB , so.. the camera has to have wifi.
it is not possible, while watching streaming on the phone to have audio continuosly open, without having tapped on the button?
Does that mean I can connect the China version to the global version hub without changing the Mihome region to China?
Means I can get 1 global version and then 3 China version and connect them all to the global hub, without changing Mihome region to China.
Because I already have a few global version xiaomi products on Mihome and they won't work if I change to region to China.
Radver Lee does not work in usa, i tried changing region yo “Chinese mainland” and other areas and says not available in your area. Is this no good now?
In the end I didn't get EC2, 8 went with the N1 instead. China version and it's working fine so far.
does this work on chinese server yet?
Does it depend on the battery? Or can it run plugged in?
agus2001 you can let it plugged but if so, it will not be waterproof as the cap is removed to access the connector
how long is it to charge it ??
can you setup multiple cameras in one hub ?
Theoretically you can but in practical, NO
I think the global version can setup 4 camera/hub
Wasnt the speaker not sounding great cuz there was water in the speaker? When you submerged it, there came little bubbles out of the speaker...
I think it must have been the connection. (The speaker test was not on the same day as I had submerged it in water)
I did have some better results with the speaker; but when I was recording the actual audio this was what I got
I'll try to switch to China server tomorrow, but besides that I am out of ideas :(
EDIT:
I was able to fix this by switching Mi Home app to Chinese mainland server. But first I had to update firmware (which was another thing that failed on European server). Micro SD card was detected correctly.
Great advise, really needed that info, thanx.
did you get it to work with FAT32?
@@dbhartsock yup, but I also had to switch to Chinese server, ran firmware update as well.
The camera is down because of it's China area ..? How do we become or throw them in the garbage
spyware included?
Do you really think devices from europe which cost twice as much do not spy? ;)
@@tobi7505 too many permissions on Mi Home apps, that's not the answer
Just put it in its own vlan, with no outbound rights.
i bought this a few days after watching this (( 14 dec 2019) i just found out it died now it wont charge anymore (15 march 2021) too bad .. its was a nice one.
Only waterproof if you used standalone with battery only. Once you plug in permanent power you have no waterproof anymore.
I see no videos in how long the battery should be charged, and when charging is done!!!!!
Oh i got you this time! First :)
I purchased the camera 6 months ago.... but suddenly it stop working ... no cotumer service is available.... i would buy this security camera !!!
Does it support onvif?
At the moment it does not support onvif or any feed over IP....
Perhaps support might be added in the future, or someone might write code for it? But right now it's only accessible through the Mi Home APP
I have chains one and not working with app
Charging time?
Awesome
Maybe Wyze-cam using this for their upcoming outdoor camera?
What is the charging time?
Great, thank you 😎
I hope this device is available in Indonesia too.
New update add record for 10/20/30 sec of video.
So it just records 10 second and then start another 10?
@@kurtsam5972 now, the new update there is 10/20/30 sec record.
@@yanir.tzabary oh thanks!
If only it could connect via bluetooth or record to micro sd card, work without hub, it would be the best. Imagine the possibilities :D
then buy dash cam instead of this
There are hubless cams out there, with Alexa or Google Assistent integration. This product does record to an SD when inserted though. Video over bluetooth is not possible though because of the bandwith limitations of bluetooth.
California Love!!!
Can’t recommend it. I always have to reconnect the gateway and it rarely works. It constantly says “ bring closer to router” but it is 2 inches away from router.
Nice one
Is this Google home compatible ?
I haven't seen it pop up in the Google Home list and it's not being mentioned that this is being supported. Perhaps in the future they might add support but I wouldn't know for sure.... What would you be interested in setting up that requires google home?
@@xiaomify I wanted to be able to ask Google home to show the camera feed. I'm using the wyze cams at the moment with mixed success.
@@basdfgwe I have a nest hub and it was a bit disappointing when I found out that it is not compatible. I wish there is a workaround.
hopefully one day, Xiaomi will learn how to make a good video quality camera.
