He invites journalist Venessa Sheppard and her crew to record everything happening inside the hotel leading up to the performance. Definitely a return to top form after the less apocalyptic second instalment, wrapping things up neatly rather than overstaying its welcome. Certainly among the better of the genre.

LOVED the ending!
I watched HH1 last night. It was not really realistic but it was very creepy. The girl sitting on the bedroom floor was intense.
The plot is amazing, but the effects could be better in all of the series.
In their defense to the first one, it had a really small budget to work with.
No real excuse for that on 2 and 3 though, since they had much larger budgets.

That ending made no sense to me at all. What the heck happened to all of the other people that died in there? Aren't they stuck there too?

At the end the newscaster said that all of the staff and other people were found unharmed in the cornfield. Towards the end when it goes on fire and it’s the next day and they’re still putting out the fire you can hear him say that in the news cast

I loved this trilogy!!
The ending and many other parts of the movie make no sense to me. What is in the box that Russell receives? What does Russell whisper to Vanessa? What does Father Paulis have to do with anything? The people from the second movie are unknowingly haunting the house then turn peaceful once Russell closes the gate? If they are stuck there, where are the people from the first movie? If the people from the third movie die there then turn out okay (the news says they all survive) because Russell closes the gate, why does everyone else not come back to life? If Andrew Tully wants to bring people to the lake of fire, why stab them repeatedly? Why not just throw them into the lake? Furthermore, it is so dumb of these people to not bother watching the previous documentary (or documentaries) before they arrive. They would recognize Andrew Tully immediately if they were prepared.
Question I had was why didn't Russel do this with the first group if he was there? Why wait until multiple parties disappeared?

Re-watched the original trilogy again after watching part 4: The Legend Carmichael Manor. If your a fan of the first three I really recommend that movie. That and When Evil Lurks were the best horror movies i've seen this year.

I really like the actress who played Jane Maloney (the one who kisses the clown)... shes got great energy... seems like a great person to hangout with ... also actor playing Max is funny n chemistry between jeff n harvey is great as well

the funniest parts of this movie are the scene with Max. He looks so let down and just angry after getting told to turn off his spinning machine. Then he says "bought it I own it" in such a happy-go lucky way. funniest parts.

Maybe like he used to be a human being & act as a clown & now he's being punished there for some reason or maybe it's possessed by a demon. But ,Yas,I love this franchise along with House Oktober Built & Grave Encounters........

Disappointing ending....
I love this trilogy ... but had a question if anyone can answer... what kind of play is insomnia suppose to be... i mean a play usually happens on stage inside a hall where the audience usually sits... but here they are moving around in a house like some sort of live action role playing ... like its some kinda interactive video game... are plays like this a thing? What are they called? What kind of category would you put a play like this in... are there real plays like this conducted on live location? Such a fascinating concept.
Yes this concept exists, yo can look up the "Sleep no more" play on Google, it's in New-York. You even have to wear a mask ! :)

I wonder how much the actors (if they were real ) would actually feel. They all act dumb except if you notice will all have something to serious say even the actors who claim to have not seen the documentary ends up being concerned when Vanessa say atleast you guys don't have to sleep there over night...if she had no idea what happened why the concern over them having to sleep there over night.
In the end Russell says i closed the gate y helped opened it... how did the guys from the first movie open the gate.

I've seen a couple of reviews saying this movie was a wash out of the previous 2! I disagree! If no one ever seen the first two this would want them to do so with the background clips of the previous 2! Brilliant marketing strategy!! It'll make you want to! Now I've seen all 3 numerous times in order!!! My fav still being in it's order ..1,2 and 3 in that order! I watch 2 more than the rest though lol but yeah! It was brilliant..kept you in and I love Russell's character because it makes you understand from a distance his purpose once you hear his back story!! Beautifully tragic! Bravo
