    I just realized I forgot to show the variegated Frydek lol. I moved it to my window ledge front and center to get bright light. I had moved it to be beside my regular Frydek but it dropped a leaf pretty quickly from lack of light. So it's getting a lot of direct sun now. It should perk back up soon. My jacklyn is on the other shelf under a barrina T5 and I have a black velvet I didn't show in my cabinet :)

I’m trying a new spot for momma, 6-8’ from our West window (corms are on that windowsill)… I’ve been scared all day wondering if I did a good job 😂 Then this video posted! Thank you Melissa 🫶🏼

      Thank you so much! I think they take a lot of patience at first because they don't get big right away and they tend drop leaves so it feels like they're never growing. What about Alocasia Jacklyn? Similar care to all other alocasia? Mine is a baby, in a 2in pot and just pushed two new leaves, however, the tips of the leaves are slightly brown (just barely). I have it sitting just a few inches from an east facing window and the humidity is usually 50-68%, temp is 68°-70°. I only water when she's mostly dry only using rain water, so I'm just wondering if I'm missing something here because of the leaf tips and I dont want it to get worse 😅 too much light maybe? I have t5 lights on shelves, should I place it under those? How far from the actual light? Thanks, Melissa! ❤️🌿

    Quick question- so I ended up repotting and upsizing my alocasia poly which had two new growth points… they ended up turning brown right after the upsize and I’m so bummed. Do you just cut these off or is there potential for them to continue growing? It’s been a few weeks..

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Год назад

      oh no I'm sorry! I would cut the leaf off just where it meets the stem and leave the stem intact. They'll produce a new growth from the latest leaf kinda how monstera delicosa does in a way. They also will sprout new leaves from the corms that grow off the roots. It may continue to yellow all the way or not grow but I would wait for it to do it on its own just in case :)

    Alocasia loves 60-80% humidity. Everywhere on the internet is saying that a home or room over 50% humidity causes mold, structural Integrity issues, and potential health issues. How do I keep my Alocasia happy and healthy without over humidifying my room?

    Can someone please explain why she is taking the flowers off? Does it harm the health of the plant to let it bloom, I'm seeing mixed information...

      It can take energy away from the plant so it can yellow off older leaves to keep the bloom alive and it can also cause new growth to be smaller.

      @@plantsbymelissa it’s in my cabinet so I am just very confused 😂 the stem still looks alive and green so fingers crossed it comes back. I was so sad when all the leaves started turning yellow

    Why do you snap off inflo’s? Alocasia’s tend to have the most beautiful flowers. They took all the effort

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Год назад

      I don’t plant on pollinating them right now and they take away so much energy to keep them alive. I had kept blooms on before and the plant yellowed older growth and wouldn’t push a new leaf so after I chopped it it grew better. I like the leaves more 🫶🏻
