    In today's video, we're finally going to repot my 2 new alocasias I purchased since they have now acclimated to my space. One of them had a rapid fungal spread and the other has possible fungal issues too. I removed a death plug and found over 20 corms to root and grow! You can find my Alocasia playlist below as well as the products I used in this video.

    Your Dragon's Breath looks gorgeous now all cleaned up 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Don't know HOW I missed this video!!! So glad I watched cos my Dragon Scale has something funky goin on on one of its leaves too so will get on to it asap. Was super excited for you finding all those corms....it's such a treat when that happens (had that with my Dragon Scale and Bisma Silver yaaaaay!!!) I'm positive they'll thrive in your care and I hope your Azlanii has recovered. She's looking so pretty even with the fungal issue. Thank you for another enjoyable video Melissa...enjoy the rest of your week 😻

    Hi Melissa, nice relaxed and chill video but still informative. I believe the spots come from stress or possibly overwatering. I am jealous of the prices of the “Rare” plants available in the US. I live in Europe and most Alocasia’s are very inexpensive, 15-20€ for an Azlanii with 8 leaves but an Maranta Lemon Lime mature plant costs 70-100€ but in the US they’re 10-20 bucks. The Fluval is also my new rooting/potting substrate and after 9 months of long term testing I believe I will be continuing using it instead of Leca. The corms go crazy in it. Mostly all my 15 various and 8 double Alocasia are in Semi hydro. The Alocasia is a very trying plant until you learn the ticks. After killing a few and starting them from corms it gives you a better understanding of its needs. As long as the watering is consistent, with Semi hydro that’s less of an issue, light should be bright/indirect but depending on the leaf color most can thrive without it too, and nutrients. They love to eat and I feed them at every watering. I don’t let them dry out because it causes the stems to hang, in my opinion. Your plants are beautiful. Keep bringing the knowledge and thanks for sharing.

    Melissa, I have many Streptocarpus on reservoirs, and I noticed if they get too dry, then too wet the leaves will develop bad cases of powdery mildew. When the watering issues are fixed, they’re fine. The Azlanii was so overwatered that it probably had the same issues. Since you fixed the issues and you’re very on top of watering properly, I bet the fungal issues won’t persist

It has some very healthy roots that are at least one inch in length. Will planting it in soil stress it, or do you think it will encourage faster growth? Thank you!

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Год назад

      They’re pretty sensitive to repotting. I try not to mess with the roots too much after the first repot. So when I go to upsize I’ll just plop in a bigger pot and fill up around. I try to let them acclimate first to reduce any shock and the superthrive helps. Every plant is different though and the environment they’re in depends on how they’ll do too. I’ve definitely had some get a little angry with me but they eventually recovered 🙏🏼

    • @plantsbymelissa

      It can get pretty humid here depends on the day I guess. I have a fan on to circulate the air :) the corms could take several weeks or even longer to sprout - it depends a lot of the conditions they're in too!

    • @SuperUsername147
      @SuperUsername147 Год назад +1

      Absolutely. I’ve had them sprout on their own in it’s pot (that how it works in nature) but I think it’s fun to prop them. I also think they have a higher chance of success if you separate them and give them their own space to root and grow. But I could be wrong.

      Yes, you can definitely leave them! A lot of the individual plants in the dragon’s breath I repotted was from the different corms that sprouted in their own time. I think it’s fun to grow them out and then you can gift some away or even repot back in or sell some. If you have more rare varieties then you can definitely grow out the corms to sell, I see a lot of people do that ☺️

    What causes fungal infections in alocasias?

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Год назад +1

      Mostly has to do with a moisture issue. Either coming from a humid place and no airflow (like being shipped) or if water sits on the leaves for too long and doesn’t dry in time it can cause a fungus to form. I try not to have leaves touching and I have a fan in my plant space to circulate air. I also don’t mist because of the risk 🥲
