Great and informative video. I have just got my first alocasia. So thank for letting me know things I love you attitude regarding the plants. Keep up the good work 😊
Why did you have to go and make me want a Maharani like that? Hahahaha. I have the Frydek, Black Velvet, and Silver Dragon. I love them all. My silver dragon is also from Costa Farms and I immediately repotted it and noticed it was planted in those mesh netting things. I would repot yours whenever you can. I also want the Dragon Scale... and now the Maharani. :D
Hahaha my bad! 😂 omg I want a dragon scale so bad too! Oh good thinking with the repot. I kind of feel like I already did but I'll have to check n make sure. Those mesh things are killers!
Well thanks for the video. I believe you have a pest problem and the soil seems to be too dense? The Black Velvet isn’t struggling because of “Overwatering “, which is basically impossible to do. It’s dying from being eaten alive and lack of humidity? I would suggest cutting it back, ridding it of pests and watch her grow. Also the Polly is a good project for air layering. Then you won’t have so much of the trunk showing? The Frydek is Gorgeous!! It’s my favorite Alocasia. The spots on the leaves are from pest. Which I don’t know. I had a leaf come out with them all over. After treatment keep the humidity higher since Spider mites don’t like moisture. The Melo and Maharani are basically the same plant. Due to the thickness of the leaves they have NO problems. If all else falls try misting them occasionally. Things will work out.
I'm not sure about the brown spots, but have you taken it out of its pot and checked for plastic or fabric around the roots? That nursery is notorious for that. I've learned to take them out and look if it's from them
Your silver dragon flowering and browning sounds like drought stress. Inconsistent watering did the same to mine. Not much of a Alocasia guy but stumbled upon an Imperialis Nebula locally and think it'll be my next purchase.
Knock on wood. No problem with spider mites with either my Alocasias or Calatheas, I have had them for over a year now and have average humidity in my rooms. Because everyone kept saying that Alocasias and Calatheas are spider mite magnets, I order predatory mites every six to eight weeks and put the little satchels into the plants. Never had any problems with mites. If they were there, they were eaten up before becoming a problem. Best is: you don't notice the predatory mites anywhere
I do have a video on how I treat for pests! I treat all of my plants for pests the same way. I don't personally do anything different for velvety alocasia leaves! I hope my pest prevention video is somewhat helpful for ya!!
My local home depot had alocasia azlanii for $8 got two! I do have the ivory coast, it was in kinda rough shape when I bought it....it was sold in a prop vessel in water, but it was only the 2nd time I had seen one, so I grabbed it....and it is doing great in soil....I hope you find one....they almost look frosted :) my latest alocasua is the Ninjia! It came in a ceramic pot at the home depot for $20! And I did get a Safarii...a big one.....it is like the pink dragon but...dark purple on the back side and more ruffly leaves....
Great plants, Thanks for sharing. I would like to point out that Amazonica and Poly (correct spelling) are not the same plant. Amazonica is the original plant and Poly is a smaller growing cultivar of Amazonica.
Hmmm….what do you do to save an overwatered Silver Dragon? I lost all of my leaves even after I dried it out. They went limp and shriveled up and died. Hoping my corms survive.
I'm so sorry to hear that! I would check the corm and see if it's mushy or not. If it's not, you have a great chance at keeping it alive! I'd just keep potted in a small pot and keep a watchful eye on it!
I think they’re petioles on Alocasia you’re referring to. 😉 The stem is the woody, trunky part at the bottom, like on your Amazonica, where you chopped it off and it sprouted again. That’s the ‘main’ stem, I think. Then the petioles come from the leaf nodes on that.. Plus, also I love how the _lauterbachiana_ looks like a Philodendron 'Ring of Fire' or 'Jungle Boogie'… at least, since they’re all aroids, if one Alocasia fails, there’s likely always a Philodendron species or hybrid available that gives the same look! With half the stress! 🤣
Knock on wood, but I never seem to get spider mites on my Alocasia, even the ones in regular room humidity. Now my Dieffenbachia, that's another story. They own the monopoly on spider mites in my house 😂 I do feel like my jewel Alocasia with the more cardboard feeling leaves are more resistant to spider mites, I've had 2 Frydek though that had spider mites more often than they didn't have them
That's so lucky!! Haha I feel like my house is just full of Spider mites...I can't think about it too much lol. Omg yess I had 1 dieffenbachia and it dies within a matter of weeks because of spidermites!
I first seen the dragon tooth last year and of course I fell in love with it. I’m not big with alocasia's in general but something about the dragon tooth I had to have it. Anyways last year I paid $85 for a 6inch then it rotted within days. I reached out to the company and they replaced but that one didn't last long either. So after buying it, replacing & 2 shipping cost I'm like not again at that price but its nice to see the price came down maybe I’ll finally get to have one. And not buy from the original seller. Haha. Btw great collection you have
Knock on wood...no spider mites problems. I use neem oil spray from concentrated oil. Humidity of 55%. Touch and feel daily. Seven varieties of Alocasia. 6 black velvet, 4 pink princess, 2 low riders, 2 stingrays, Ninja, dragon scale and 2 African Mask Polly. The never get dry. Moist soil, not wet. SerenityGardenAviary
@@parkerdiaz6213 I do not. The Leca Queen seemed to be having problems with Alocasia in leca so I stopped using it. All my Alocasia are grown in chucky well draining soil mix.
@@serenitycarlos2 I highly recommend it! I have an alocasia collection of about 26 species and going strong 😂 all in semi hydro/ leca. They THRIVE in leca.
Yesss. I'm slowly but surely coming to realization that alocasias really enjoy humidity. All of the alocasia I have living in really high humidity are always looking good but I can't say the same for the others! 😅
@@planttherapiiyes, Alocasias are all tropical. In my experience the humidity has to be constant and I would recommend greater than 60%. They do well in a mix of super aerated substrate almost like that of orchids
So many plant crazy people! What is this thing about plants that just "gets us"? They're so expensive, and such a pain in the ass! Wouldn't artificials be so much better? Of course they would! Weird, man.
I personally love caring for my plants. It brings me joy. While fake plants are of course easier to care for as they don't need anything, it's not as fulfilling for me!
I can not WAIT for my Maharani to get this big!! Like hooowwww?!!✨️😍😍
Time and patience lol mostly time!

Just rescued a drowning Maharani from Lowe's for 11 bux! I didn't realize what a cool find it was. Thank you for telling me what the new baby is!
That's awesome!! 👏 I hope it grows well for you too!!
Love your beautiful Alocasia’s!!Alocasia’s are definitely on my favorites list!! 🙌🪴❣️
Thanks girl!! They're too cool! 😎

The Maharani looks very much like the Melo....great info and thank you for sharing
I know!! I've never seen a melo in person but I'd love to see what the real differences are
@@planttherapii I guess the main diff is that the Maharani has white veining whereas the Melo is monochromatic 🤷🏻♀
Thank you for your videos!! You're so positive and you make the end of my workday so lovely. I appreciate your content.
Omg thank you so much!! That makes me so happy. Thank you for hanging out with me! 🥰
The spider mites are in love with my purple sword....yours is so big and looks so pretty :) great price too!
I know it! Damn spidermites! I don't let that plant get too close to any others to be safe!
Your Maharani is perfect! So so amazing!

I bet you're right! I have been suuuper inconsistent with watering in the room that plant is in.
Ohh dang those are beautiful!!
I just bought what I thought was a dragon scale. But the undersides are pink! Thank you!! It’s an Alocasia Maharani!! $12 Lowes!

My costa silver dragon had death plugs on the roots.....yours I bet does too!
I saw plants by Melissa have some around hers too! I'm definitely going to have to check mine now

Do you water them with distilled water? Tap water could be the cause of the browning?
I haven't ever watered with distilled water before. I think you're right tho lol some plants are a little too picky for me!
just purchased 2 pink dragons and could split into 4...so far so good..love em

Diatomaceous earth try that and it will help prevent the spider mites look at our bits amazing
Hey! By chance are you watering these guys with tap or RO water
Hey! I don't ever water with anything but tap water 😳
The yellow spotting on your frydek is most probably extrafloral nectaries
Oo thank you!! Do you think its from some of the philos that are near it or do alocasia get extrafloral nectaries too??
@@planttherapii Alocasias get extrafloral nectaries too. Philos, alocasias & colocasias are the only genera in the family araceae that get it
