I’m falling in love with Chai just in the first 3.5 minutes of this video! She is just staring at you talking and wondering why you aren’t looking at her, LOL. She’s Gorgeous too! And those eyes!! WOW, huge and incredible. You looked away from her and her head whips to the camera. LOL. She seriously needs to be on video more. She/he is just perfect for videos.
Just got my plant in the mail from your shop! It's my first alocasia!! I feel more confident caring for it after watching your videos and learning so much from you. Thank you! ❤❤❤
Omg, ur adorable Chai is melting my heart the way he so sweetly paws at u for love! All my cats have always done this too and I adore it, lol! Great vid by the way. I always feel so relaxed and chilled out watching your vids! ❤❤❤
From one Melissa to another, girl, wave however you like. Life is too short to wave goodbye according to trends or fads. Also I’m dying, not literally of course, for a polyneura.
Hi! Love your videos, plants, and kitties! I’ve been watching for a while but it’s my first time commenting. Just wanted to share the diy plant soap recipe that’s worked for me for mealys, spider mites, and even reduced the fungus gnats. I’ve had the most trouble with pest this spring and this has really helped! I just spray all over the plant, top and bottom, and the top of the soil and let it set at least 10 mins. You can then rinse if you’d like but I usually don’t. It smells great too! Hope this helps! Plant Soap Recipe (Treat once a week x 1 month then every 2/4 weeks as preventative) 2 quarts water 1/4 cup Dr Woods Tea Tree Castile soap 1/4 cup Dr Woods Peppermint Castile soap 1 tbsp 3% hydrogen peroxide 1 cup 70% rubbing alcohol Mix well and spray plant thoroughly.
Loved coming along on this chore video. I love the Polyneura leaves they are so pretty. Fun fact, the name means 'many nerves/veins' in Greek😉 Really enjoy watching your repotting videos. Glad you were able to get rid of the mealies 👏🏼👌🏼
Oooooooo! Chai is spoiled. He hangs around you a lot. I almost don't remember you have another cat. Ittamar, my cat jumps on me in the morning when I take too long to feed him. Or he'll put his rat and roach eating face near mine to wake me up. Yuck! He's a good cat and smart too. He's probably nearly 15 or over 15 yrs now. Last check up he had a couple of years now, doctor said he's in pretty decent shape. He needs another check up I think, now. Ittamar sends hi to Chai and his sibling. Take care. HAPPY PLANT'N!
Hi Melissa, I may have said this already ☺ but if you want to beat mealies once and for all, white oil or horticultural oil is the way to go. My hoyas were ridden with mealies, it's like it happened so quickly. I used white oil, making sure that every little bit of the plant was covered in it, then sprayed again in a fortnight and GOODBYE mealies!! The business of using alcohol doesn't seem to work. Love your videos, Melissa.
Hi! Love Chai! Such a sweet kitty! You need to make some merch with the cats and a few plants! Just popped in here to say that lacunosa rots easily. Also, your poly’s are gorgeous!
Melissa, you sure get a lot done in a day! The only time my Monstera albo got brown was when I unpotted it to bring it home on a plane, so travel does seem to bother them. As for mealies, I use a combination of Castile soap and isopropyl alcohol. I can send you the recipe if you’re interested
So I was watching the part where you didn’t wanna get rid of the leaves and I would just like to say fun fact, you can actually propagate begonia leaves and stick them in water and they’ll grow roots and the grow a whole new plant. Sometimes a little plant will come out from the bottom of the leaf stem where you snipped it or they’ll grow a whole new plant from like, the top where leaf connects to the leaf stem just wanted to share a tip and also I love your content and I’m a really big fan
Hi Melissa, I've just started to use Fluval Stratum after watching some of your videos and I was quite impressed with the results, compared to Perlite, which I normally use. I probably wouldn't have tried it, if I hadn't been following your channel. Thank you 🥰
I was watering my hoya while watching you and I think it's actually going to bloom. 😁 it is the exotica...or at least that's what it was called when I got it 😅 it has been growing a lot this spring. I had to use systemic pesticide to get rid of mealy bugs. They love my haworthias.
I just use neem oil lemon dish soup mix with water to treat mealybugs. I think this happens when soil is contaminated so i tend to repot my plants that i buy from nursery garden centres and online plants too. Also overcrowded plants and no airflow and over fertiliser can get them too. To prevent getting them i use preventative every month also i clean the leaves every time i water my plants.
This is what I use it has worked great against a few pests including mealy bugs 4 Cups water 1/8 Cup (Dr.Woods) peppermint Castile soap 1/8 Cup (Dr.Woods) tea tree Castile soap 1/2 Cup 70% rubbing alcohol 1 1/2 tsp hydrogen peroxide I hope this helps!!!
I love how we all panic with pests. I saw signs of spider mites and went into overdrive. Pretty sure my milsbo got drowned in alcohol from the wipe down. 😅
Hi Melissa! I use the Bonide systemic granules, haven't seen any mealies, thrip, scale or any of those things in several years now. That's for my personal plants though (I know you said you didn't want to use that)... not sure what I would use if I were selling. I use insecticidal soap for spider mites and flat mites.
Chai is the most adorable cat I’ve seen so loving! Sorry to hear about your mealies breakout on your Hoyas. I just don’t understand how or where these things come from.
Oh no!! I got mealies from a string of dolphins that I got at Lowes last year. Id get rid of them, put the plant back in the window, theyd appear again. Luckily they never got anywhere else, but I gave up on that plant. Im not quick to give up on plants usually, but it was hopeless. Never again!
For some reason I'm having trouble getting into your shop to see what plants you have for sale. Do you have a link you could send me? I love watching you and you are such a wonderful motivator.🎉
Colorado doesn’t seem to have the mealy problems but the flatmites on Hoyas is what Ive been battling for awhile and I can’t seem to rid them. My begonia maculata needs to go in a self watering pot so I think I will do that today. I haven’t had great luck with keeping plants in water long term even using superthrive in the water- must be our water here or something I’m doing
Ok a bit bummed that I never received the notification for this video and I keep the bell on for your channel planty frienddd! What the heck? I always watch all your videos and this one never sent me anything! Thanks a lot RUclips! 🤔🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Not to mention I’ve been on RUclips on and off watching things for the last 2 days! Wonder what’s up with that nonsense??? Also I wanted to add i also live in Ga and the mealys outside are insane here around north ga aswell! 🫣
Try putting a lemon, or lime, on top of the soil of that plant. But first stick wooden matches all around into the lemon or lime, with the wooden stick into the fruit and the match head sticking out. It's supposed to get rid of ants. The combination of the matches and lemon or lime, puts off something, that kills the ants. Worth a try anywy.
I really like this concept and don't currently have any moss poles but I have two philos on the way from TheGreenEscape and I think I want to try this method out with them!!
I’m afraid to buy new plants sometimes out of fear of pests, but I now have a few mealies on a couple of my Hoyas. I heard they sometimes piggyback into the house on ants from around the windows. Anyone else heard of that? Pretty easy to treat thankfully
I got them as a set from amazon. I don't think this specific seller is available anymore but if you do a search for 18 quart storage bins there's lots of options. For the aroid mix - I am using it for any plant that isn't in semi hydro. I still have a lot of plants in my old mix but as a repot they're all going into this mix. It's soil free and I don't use peat moss anymore :)
How much water do you add to your stratum? I seem to want to keto it full. Is that too much water. Should I allow the water to wick up or wait till I get roots.
4 seasons! I buy the concentrate then dilute with water. www.amazon.com/dp/B000BX4RNW?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B000BX4RNW&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.2V24W33QL9G3B&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ons_mixed_d_asin
You can clear up the mealies, have none on the plants you treat and not see a mealy for mo the then they pop back up again o a couple different plants.
How could you ignore that sweet Kitty. I hear her purring, so adorable ❤
He‘s the best :) always caressing her face 😂 He’s so sweet 🥹
The kitty purrs and love taps 😂❤❤

Its so cute lol
You're amazing to watch while I'm on maternity leave, just a relaxing voice around the chaos 💚 motivates me to water some plants 🤣

I just love Chai! He’s like…hey hey hey.
Chai stealing the show as always! I watched your video whilst gardening today, I love having 'company' during planty chores :)
Hey xx the begonia will root from the bottom of the stem not just the node. You can even put the leafs in water and they’ll grow.
the new drop list 🥰🥰🥰

your cats are just soooooo adorable! i love them so much. i’m mostly a dog person but my goodness….so precious! ❤❤❤
Love the shirt. Mine should arrive tomorrow, so adorable. Great choice. 😅

Is Chai your favorite? Because her total adoration of you is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen🖤🌸
Chai loves both of us haha. Luna is attached to me while Star loves my husband more ❤️
I just got a reg polynuera and just love it. I love the Hoya that hang like ferns

I got my panda galaxy and aurea Syngonium for Rare Plant Fairy. Great shop, I just can’t afford much there.

You're welcome! It's amazing stuff and props seem to take to it really well. Glad you gave it a go ❤️
@@plantsbymelissa I sent a message through your Patreon site, but I'm not sure if I've done it correctly lol.
Same I have never used fluval stratum but Melissa convinced me and I just bought my first bag last week.
I really struggle with fluval i find everything rots? Maybe im doing something wrong. I always have the best success with mose and perlite miced.
I was watering my hoya while watching you and I think it's actually going to bloom. 😁 it is the exotica...or at least that's what it was called when I got it 😅 it has been growing a lot this spring. I had to use systemic pesticide to get rid of mealy bugs. They love my haworthias.
Bright indirect light for the micans. The east window would be great.
I just use neem oil lemon dish soup mix with water to treat mealybugs. I haven't. I have videos where I've shown certain pests when I had them but not an all in one video.
Chai!❤❤❤
Florists use the tape trick when making big arrangements
I know this may be random but you should do a video on your Alocasia Jacklyn 😍
Good afternoon Melissa
Hi Lisa!! ❤
I’ll buy your begonias!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
I’d love to see an unboxing live or not!
A plant I’d love to see in your shop is your silver snake plant 🥲
Aw I might could separate part of it one day to have some props. I can cut it because it reverts to all green :(
Chai is the most adorable cat I’ve seen so loving! Sorry to hear about your mealies breakout on your Hoyas. I just don’t understand how or where these things come from.

Wow that begonia looks beautiful! She’s just in water? How often do you change it and do you fertilize?
Yes, plants in hydroponics need fertilizer :) I use my nutrient solution and I try to change the water monthly.
For some reason I'm having trouble getting into your shop to see what plants you have for sale. Do you have a link you could send me? I love watching you and you are such a wonderful motivator.🎉
What type of soil mix do you currently use for hoyas and syngoniums? Thank you for sharing as always. 🌿
I would agree all my Hoya by windows get mealys and my others on grow lights far from a window don’t really get them
I'll be moving all my hoyas back from windows 🫡
Your tuxedo cat is like mine. When Juju wants attention she taps me with her paws. She doesn’t like being picked up though.
Colorado doesn’t seem to have the mealy problems but the flatmites on Hoyas is what Ive been battling for awhile and I can’t seem to rid them. What do you spray the plants with when you get bugs?
hi! can you do a video on how to propagate and use stratum? I would love to see this to use in my collection
How are you liking doing the sphagnum moss and coco husk poles??
So far I like it but it still dries out quickly in my space. I feel like watering them has been a little easier to saturate through.
I really like this concept and don't currently have any moss poles but I have two philos on the way from TheGreenEscape and I think I want to try this method out with them!!

oh gosh eww haha. I have not heard of that but I can see that happening!! Sorry about finding some on your hoyas :(
Where is the bin from that you have your stratum in?
The aeroid mix that you use now,.would you use that for all your plants?

Poor Melano 😢 they can be a bit finicky. I think they like humidity but need a lot of air flow, like Verrucosum and most anthuriums.
It’s been a challenging one for me!
❤
Why do you prefer not to use soil? Chai is so cute 🥰
Too dense and I prefer not to use peat moss.
@@plantsbymelissa thanks :)
Hi Melissa. Wow. I’m n love with your Begonia. She is stunning. Will you be selling those Begonias next sale? I. WANT ONE.
I just propagated them Saturday so it will be some time before they're ready. They need to grow roots first. Probably sometime next month!
When will the polynura go on the site? I would die😍
Whenever they root enough and I know the pests are for sure gone. I imagine it will be some time maybe a month or two 🫶
My Melanochrysum did exactly the same thing 😔
😢 I'm sorry!
