    Ha! Looks like "first cab off the comment ranks!" Noticed a Tangara day. Was this during an "Aussie-Made" Rail protest? You had a beautiful day, as a bonus! Thanks for this great trip. I am going this way with my career on my next visit to the Museum. save on transport costs from my "My Aged Care" Funding.
    Working on an Eastern Suburbs-Sydney "up and below" project and will let you know when that is complete.

      No protests that day; the Illawarra line actually has no Waratah service at all (thank goodness); it is properly 100% Tangaras (other than the occasional Waterfall service ran by an OSCAR.)

    I thought it was my imagination the "Red Rattlers" were wider, glad I'm not going crazy...well crazier than I already am :) Interesting that they need to slow down these days, when passing stations, unlike back in the day when they passed at line speed, AFAIK.

      The platforms have been adjusted to reduce the gap to the narrower trains so F1 is slowed down to reduce the chance of it rocking and touching the platform.

      clearly our friends at Hyundai-Rotem are deciding to return to that wider width, given all the works to widen the tunnels on intercity lines :)

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  2 месяца назад +1

      What I wrote earlier was wrong because the width I got was for trains built for another country. In fact the Hyundai Rotem trains are the same width as suburban and interurban trains except the V sets. The only tunnels which need to be widened are on the Blue Mountains as those tunnels were never widened more than was required for the V sets which are narrower than everything else.

      And that’s why you won’t probably see F1 go round the city circle any more due to the circular quay gap fillers and how wide F1 is.

  • @harrygoldun5779
    @harrygoldun5779 2 месяца назад

    I don't get this, F1 can't proceed through a station at speed due to it being to wide, so I take it, the rocking motion could cause the cars to impact the platform. So when were these platforms altered? And if altered for the newer stock, why do they need gap fillers? If they are fitted then F1 is restricted on travelling on those lines.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  2 месяца назад +2

      F1 did not run for a number of years as nobody in the railways was interested in it. Then Howard Collin’s came along… There is no sign of the platforms being widened so it can only be assumed that tracks were moved closer to some stations. This has happened in no particular order, possibly during trackwork. Nevertheless I can assure you that F1 has banged against a platform here and there more than once. Re those fillers, they seem to be added in random order. It’s better than the platform gap being even less which would see the end of F1. W3 which hopefully will be running this year is in the same situation with the double deck trailers probably being another problem. Chatswood consequently is OK northbound, banned southbound. Other stations are iffy. One further complication is that some platforms are low enough for the widest part of each car to actually be high enough to be above the platform.

      @@tressteleg1 they sure do know how to kill the heritage scene in Sydney. Want to make it up there this year and hitch a ride on F1 or W3. Thanks for the heads up on what going on.

      @@harrygoldun5779 Well at least it is allowed to run. But don’t plan any Sydney trips just hoping for a F1 tour. That train is long overdue for major maintenance and its replacement W3 still needs more work done at Flemington and staff availability for it is rather limited.
