We run legit miles in our shoes and provide honest, no BS reviews of running shoes, running gear, and running races.
That's actually funny because the Mach 4 was the first shoe I ever sold after a few miles because I didn't like it at all. The rebel V2 however is easily my favorite shoe ever ran in. Even though I love your reviews, I'm going to still have to go with the rebel V3. I'm super excited to get my pair.
Mach 4 also fell super flat for me. Also got blisters from narrow forefoot. First shoe I've ever returned.
Hoka rincon 3 got my forefoot thumb blister even after 300km. Guess I have no luck with Hoka.. I like their fashionable design the most in the running shoes industry .
I love the Mach 5 and have the Rebel V2. My only problem with the Mach 5 is the durability, I'm about 320KM (200 miles) in and some of the outsole traction is completely gone. The Rebel V2 I've put about 450KM (280 miles) in and the outsole still looks great
As a bigger runner, I bottom out the Mach 5 softer foam when descending. It's an obvious squish-clunk as it hits the outsole.
None of my other shoes do it and that's the Nimbus/Cumulus/Novablast/MoreFoam, otherwise, the Mach 5 seems fine.
This is good to know. A lot of reviews are done by very lightweight people.
How heavy? I’m 210 and have been looking at the mach 4/5. I don’t have any issues with the rebel v2 bottoming out but I only use it for shorter runs (3-5 miles).
Light and heavy runners do have different shoe needs. Cannot really take such reviews wholesale. Sometimes they can be very biased.
The Rebel line-up is like an amazing hard rock band 🎸 (V1 V2 Rebels) that sold out and made an album of commercial ballads (V3 Rebel) 👟
The Mach 5 is my go-to for long runs, easy runs and tempo efforts. I have taken it on several runs between 26 miles - 32 miles and it felt like the same comfortable shoe at the beginning as it did when I finished the run. The rubberized EVA sole definitely shows wear after 100 miles. I have 291 miles on my pair of Mach 5s and, while the sole shows significant wear, the grip is still there, and I don't have any loss of confidence when rounding a corner or when running on wet trail/pavement. Love them!
Brandon is really going hard on the Rebel v3 over the Mach 5. Thomas being more even over both except the uses. What did the Rebel v3 do to you Brandon to hurt your feelings?? 😂 j/k. Love the Between Two Shoes. Love seeing the channel and the BitR Brand grow!!
For me the Mach 4 bottomed out and hit a hard EVA outsole but the Mach 5 is just about perfect. It’s cushioned, light and has a tiny bit of stability and has some pretty great energy return. Conversely, I loved the Rebel 2 for the same reasons I love the Mach 5 but the Rebel 3 just feels like too much fuel cell make it slightly unstable and sort of a rubbery feel that has ok energy return but also feels like you are going to sink all the way down into the outsole making for an unstable ride. It’s almost like the two shoes switched roles entirely. Anyway LOVING the mach 5 for post-nyc marathon runs. I can’t get enough of this ultra comfortable and lightweight trainer!
I guess looks are subjective because I much prefer the look of the Rebel V3 - even in the green colourway.
Hold the shoes STILL I’M GETTING DIZZY.
Every. Single. Time.
Yes!
The Mach 5's is such a lovely ride. I just want to keep running when I wear my Mach 5's.
I will be getting Rebel 3 and I will be trying my 5km PM sub 18, currently at 18:21
Now is September 2023. Rebel v3 has been for sale from 59$ to 69$ at least since June this year on Joe's outlet online store. And once it was even a sale 100$ for two pairs. Mach 4 or 5 at the same time have never reached the price point lover the 130 $ ever. At least I haven't seen such. Guess what I've bought?
When's the match up between Mach 5 and Novablast 3? 😬
Mach 5 is more stable because of the wider base too. I’m running I’m Rebel v2 after retiring a pair of Mach 4s. Missing that stable platform.
I prefer the stability of the Mach 5 and decided not to update to Rebel V3 :-)
Good evenning believe in the run and all the runners. Great comparison about 2 excellents shoes. Here is my like. My vote goes to....NB Rebell v3. A nice week for everyone. ☀️🏃♂️☀️
I just picked up another pair of the mach 4 for 60 bucks at my local running store so looks like I will not be getting the mach 5 till next year .
Thomas right arm looking deeezed💪🏼
Looks truly are subjective, because I despise the aesthetics of just about every Hoka shoe I’ve seen, including this one. While I don’t love the Nb green, I much prefer the design to the Hoka.
I feel like the consensus from alot of reciews is that the rebel is just as good as last year (which it got TONS of hype for) if not better with the added stack/fuelcell foam - but because of the cosmetics is getting basically zero hype... its not a banger but it's not THAT bad to get as many of the 'meh' reviews as it's been getting (in my opinion ofncourse). As far as performance did it get worse?
The shoe got “democratized” a bit so they seem to be a little less fun than last year version.
@@Izlude99 The lack of stability of my V2s was no fun to me. I’m looking forward to that “democratization”. Less work for the legs means more control on workout and better results in tempo.
@@tzalan1 Yes I can agree. I have pronation too on my left foot so these days I tend to use the Hoka Mach 5 more for that extra stability to fill in the role of the Rebel.
This was great. I tried both shoes and also prefer the feel of the Mach 5. It was hard for me to put my finger on what was bothering me about the general “cheaper” feel of the Rebel but Thomas nailed it. Just wish I didn’t have to cinch the upper down so much to get a good lockdown #narrowfootgang
Ah man, I'm a little worried then bc I have narrow feet as well. I pre-ordered mine and they are still on the way.
@@SofaKingA it’s not real bad. Just a bit closer than I normally would expect. Lockdown is fine and I tend to like a really cinched down fit.
@@brandontom6230 Yup, typical of us narrow footed people lol. I'll try them out and if they are too loose I'll return them. Thanks for the feedback.
FOR ME: it's Between 2 Sizes. 11 or 11.5 size D or 2EE
Did the Rebel loose the asymmetrical lacing that the V2’s had? That was a nice feature.
White shoes does'nt stay white for very long. Perhaps that should be a factor when judging looks?
Thanks for doing a thoughtful and fairly serious comparison review. I use both these brands and it helped me zero in on what I want from an «up tempo» shoe. The humor and kidding around on some of the other reviews does not always help or cross to other cultires very well 👍🏻
Think about running the strolling jim 40 miler on the road is what shoe would you recommend for that ?
Hoka Mach 5 is really overpriced for a shoe lacking in both having an outsole and in foam technology. Rebel v3 is a technological superior shoe. A lot of very cheap, outsole-less shoes runs just like Mach 5. You guys don't review because they are cheap and people can be dumb buying pricey shoes thinking that they are good.
I agree! The mach 5 is also less stable. Folks at Believe in the run should test better.
Definitely,
I guess an economic point of view, I suspect that there may even be commission from various manufacturers
Can anyone comment on the sizing of the mach vs the rebel? I'm a 13 in the rebel and haven't run in hoka in years
Mach 5 has a roomier toebox than the Rebel V2. My real size is around 9.5+ with slightly wide toes. I’m 10 in the Mach 5, 10.5 in the Rebel v2.
Narrow foot here. I had to go half size up when trying on the Rebel v3. Ended up going half size down with Mach 5.
Thanks guys, sounds like a 12.5 might work for me
I could care less how a shoe looks if it performs great.
And what's more annoying (and lazy reviewing) is they're only comparing the colors they got for free in their samples. The black looks great this year on rebel v3, and other colors too.
Once again, l love your reviews but fashion and style is weighted way too heavy by y'all.
When it comes down to between two shoes that are very similar, we have to go off the package. Both these shoes are fantastic. So, little things tip the scale. In this case, the aesthetic plays into our choice.
I'm sorry to put the comment in Spanish. The hoka mach 4 was a shoe, the 5 would be better for sure, YOU DON'T TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT THE DURABILITY, THE OUTER SOLE FOR A LOT OF LAYER... GIVE IT SO THAT IT HOLDS LONGER, THE WEAR IS DISASTROUS, KMS AND I SAY KMS BECAUSE IN SPAIN WE MAKE KMS........150 KMS IS EQUIVALENT TO 12 TRAINING RUNS OF APPROXIMATELY 12 KMS........AND THE SOLE IS VERY WORN TO THE POINT OF LOSING EVEN 2MM THICK.
SHOES FOR ME......BUT IT CAN'T LAST 12 WORKOUTS....AHHHHH MY WEIGHT IS 63 KG
Wohooo mach 5 takes all
Hoka shoes feel great to begin with but after a 100 miles or so they start feeling flatter and deader.
