It did not have a tricycle undercarriage. It was a ' tail dragger'.
Yep just like most of our WWII bombers it gave better and easier access to the up front bombay

unlike the halifax and lanc .....the sterling did the job in its original form .......after the war some were given the extra 16 ft wingspan they required and pilots were amazed at the difference in performance .........Im amazed it could do what it could with such a small wing

My dad did his 4 engined conversion on these and because these planes were 'clapped out' there were plenty of fatalities during training.

A divided bomb bay, unlike the Manchester/Lancaster. i first was aware of this a/c when I saw a picture in the Daily Telegraph of a fairly complete one being pulled out of a bog 'somewhere', c.1955. i think it had overshot a runway.
Not a tricycle undercarriage. Tricycle undercarriages have a nose wheel. The Stirling was a tail-dragger, albeit three point. And what on earth is a "terett"??!
these Short Stirling bombers were effective, but how did they survive attax without side guns or a ball turret?
It was hampered by the partision of its bombbay, limmiting the size of bombs it could carry.
Bombardier and turret are words that people who know about planes can pronounce correctly.
