I love how this opening captures the hearts of the character when the game begins. Kisara can't face her brother, Law can't face his past, Rinwell trusts no one but Hootle, Alphen is reliant on Zephyr to understand life, Dohalim is alone yet surrounded... and no one can get near Shionne.
After this game, definitely try Tales of Vesperia. Arguably the best installment in the series, next to Symphonia. The story is amazing! I think it originally came out in 2008 so it’s obviously gonna be a step down in graphics and gameplay intricacies but it’s definitely worth a play for any Tales fan or any RPG fan in general.
No multiplayer killed the game for me before I could even try it a bold move for the trails series in a game they really need to succeed as well heh heh

I really love that the combat scenes emphasize their unique mechanics, like Shionnes ray blast or Kisara light shield. Brilliant touch that informs gameplay
That’s a nice touch however this opening is extremely generic and uninspired overall. The Berseria one is a lot superior and had better combat scenes too. Nevertheless I like both Arise openings because they give a very good idea of what the game will be and who the characters are. To the point it has info on the gameplay as the game lacks interesting enemies (with very few exceptions) so you fight repeatedly an army of giant beasts which take a combined effort to kill.
I know right! I feel like a parent that’s watch their kid grow up and they’re graduating from highschool😂. So proud of this series for finally upgrading because these amazing stories deserved better
Tales always had this level of quality. The difference this time is that this is the first game developed for PS4/PS5, since Zestiria and Berseria were PS3 games ported to PS4.

Is this a joke? Arise is a great game and an excellent new entry to the Tales series but the first Nier game is a once-in-a-generation masterpiece. An absolute triumph of story telling and character building rarely seen in video games or any medium of entertainment. It’s breaks tropes and JRPG stereotyped alike and is a singular game that is unlike anything else in its scope of writing and narrative.

@@TheShadowPandora Sure you’re not wrong, Replicants story and characters are master class BUT you can have the best story ever told in history within your game, but if it’s not FUN to play then it’s gonna hurt the overall package way more, and replicant has got to have one of if not the worst sets of side quests I’ve ever played in a rpg. 70 versions of ‘go collect a bunch of rare items for me and then do it again and again and again with different items’ or ‘go find this obscure item 10 losing zones away not marked anywhere on your map’ or ‘go slowly walk this package across every zone of the game without ever jumping, running, or being hit’. There was not a single fun or ingesting side quest in that entire game it was a massive slog that was painfully unfun to play through, carried by an incredible story and characters. ToA isn’t exactly on par with Nier’s story but it’s leaps and bounds ahead in gameplay and fun factor and that’s a lot more important to a game, plus the characters and story while not AS great, ARE still fantastic.

Not in the sense of the actual plot, but the way the characters develop around it. What I mean is that the character interactions and their development only get better and better as time goes on.

Everytime I finish a section of the game I save and return to the title screen to listen to this. Love how the song starts playing instantly. It’s like they know I’m playing this game like it’s an anime
I like diving into games faster than ever before, but i have noticed that standbye modes and quick resumes are ruining that intro vibe. When I dive into retro consoles, such as the Playstation 1, all the intros (including the bios) really get me deeper into the game. Video games should draw people in, and an awesome opening is crucial to that.
Oh she's getting a LOT of recognition from me, believe me. This game basically stars a bunch of hotties, to be honest. Even the two MCs, whom I wasn't so fond of so far, look pretty great thanks to this OP.

Given to how well the game was received I do hope it picks up. But I'm not far in, I just beat Balseph. For now it's by far the most boring Tales game so far both in terms of narrative and character interactions. Fingers crossed it gets better. A lot better...

I hope we get a Tales of Arise 2, I finished the main game and the DLC a few days ago and quite frankly, these characters and their story are too good to just move on to the project. I really enjoyed the constant banter and skits between the characters and watching them bond and grow.
I do love this crew, and I do feel Alphen and Shionnes teased final, final ending was cut short just a little too soon (without spoiling too much). But that having said, I think the DLC has shown that the general character arc growth has come to a relatively full conclusion, with nowhere to expand into. The group of Arise are now a very merry chummy group of close friends. I personally think main characters are more interesting when the character arcs are still unestablished, growing, or aren't finished yet. So I think we need a new group of protagonists with distrust, hidden agendas, and quibbles. Something to flesh out more. Vengeance? Redemption? And so on.
This was my first tales game, and I absolutely loved it. Engaging story, characters, artwork, etc. Really enjoyed it. I know they already said they won't have dlc or anything else and that's totally fine. I felt pretty satisfied with the ending and all the character arcs.

there are some things you expect in a "Tales" game. You expect the story will start out with 2 waring countries. You expect that the battle system will be fast and complex as you need it to be. You expect lots of customization options, for a JRPG. You expect that the story will have head turning revelations that change the way you perceive the in game world and people. Have fun!
It’s still a while until Arise comes out, why not try out a few while you wait? Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Berseria are a good picks right on the PS4, especially Vesperia which I can give a full recommendation as that’s the first one I beat when I first started out Just a suggestion
Remember, once you played one, go play them all... cuz that what I did... my first tales game was Berseria, but after I done that, I went back and got the old ones once they're on sale
This is only the second one I've played since Tales of Graces F. I enjoyed that one and I'm enjoying this one so far. I really should get into the others by some point.

Not in the sense of the actual plot, but the way the characters develop around it. What I mean is that the character interactions and their development only get better and better as time goes on.

Everytime I finish a section of the game I save and return to the title screen to listen to this. Love how the song starts playing instantly. It’s like they know I’m playing this game like it’s an anime
I like diving into games faster than ever before, but i have noticed that standbye modes and quick resumes are ruining that intro vibe.
When I dive into retro consoles, such as the Playstation 1, all the intros (including the bios) really get me deeper into the game. Video games should draw people in, and an awesome opening is crucial to that.

This game basically stars a bunch of hotties, to be honest. Even the two MCs, whom I wasn't so fond of so far, look pretty great thanks to this OP.

I hope we get a Tales of Arise 2, I finished the main game and the DLC a few days ago and quite frankly, these characters and their story are too good to just move on to the project. I really enjoyed the constant banter and skits between the characters and watching them bond and grow.
I do love this crew, and I do feel Alphen and Shionnes teased final, final ending was cut short just a little too soon (without spoiling too much).
But that having said, I think the DLC has shown that the general character arc growth has come to a relatively full conclusion, with nowhere to expand into. The group of Arise are now a very merry chummy group of close friends.
I personally think main characters are more interesting when the character arcs are still unestablished, growing, or aren't finished yet. So I think we need a new group of protagonists with distrust, hidden agendas, and quibbles. Something to flesh out more. Vengeance? Redemption? And so on.
What is with the 'Tales of' series having openers that are absolute bangers?
Such a creative and exciting intro, really gets you pumped for the game, lol.

This was my first tales game, and I absolutely loved it. Engaging story, characters, artwork, etc. Really enjoyed it. I know they already said they won't have dlc or anything else and that's totally fine. I felt pretty satisfied with the ending and all the character arcs.
If you ever get the chance try other Tales of, is one of the best franchise imo.

I have never played a Tales of game before, but this game is the first game in a while to get me hyped! Definitely buying day one!
there are some things you expect in a "Tales" game. You expect the story will start out with 2 waring countries. You expect that the battle system will be fast and complex as you need it to be. You expect lots of customization options, for a JRPG. You expect that the story will have head turning revelations that change the way you perceive the in game world and people. Have fun!
It’s still a while until Arise comes out, why not try out a few while you wait? Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Berseria are a good picks right on the PS4, especially Vesperia which I can give a full recommendation as that’s the first one I beat when I first started out

Remember, once you played one, go play them all... cuz that what I did... my first tales game was Berseria, but after I done that, I went back and got the old ones once they're on sale
This is only the second one I've played since Tales of Graces F. I enjoyed that one and I'm enjoying this one so far. I really should get into the others by some point.
