Finally... a decent repair vid on a dancing hands piece, I've got a dead V601 and a dead V691 Pulsar and have been hoping someone will shine a guiding light on repairing this particular type 😍

Just a quick comment - there is a TSB on these watches about how to tighten the mode selector on the shaft it mounts on. Apparently this is a common issue with them if they are mishandled a bit - enough so that Seiko did the TSB.
Mine was working fine a few days ago, and then it came to a halt. I replaced the battery and it started working again. For some stupid reason I decided to tidy up some curd on the movement near the one battery retainer screw - and used a little tiny very soft watch brush. Apparently that was too much for that coil - the hour hand no longer works. Looking at it under high magnification I can't see any sign of a break - but the way the wires connecting the coil to the terminal just sort of dangle in mid-air on their way to the terminal is rather frightening. I've been looking for hours for either a used movement for parts, or for replacements for the coils.. zilch so far. I wonder if coils for other Seiko watches are the same? I do have a parts listing which carefully gives PN's for everything BUT the coils. The service manual for it does have resistance spec's so I guess that's the next thing to do if I can do it without completely destroying the coil. An issue is there is no circuit diagram available that I've been able to find, so it's a bit iffy even trying to do a resistance test with the coils in place.

I would suspect they polished the backplate, replaced from stock items the coils and steppers and prob found in some drawer somewhere a new circuit board or had to hand the smd components and just overhauled the circuit board. (sorry didn't mean to bombard your video but I am a real fan of the dancers hehe) Oh and the control switch for the crown control as they can be bought still as can the unique stems.

READ THE INSIDE OF THE CASEBACK... THERE ARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR RESETTING AFTER BATTERY CHANGE!!! I believe you may also reset the watch after closing... download the manual. It is free online!

thank you for the video,I know better about my new collection which is 8M25-6000,
but one question is that the "match" function is to dance by itself, am I right ?

Would love to know how you got Seiko to take it on, I have tried to no avail with all my broken dancers most recently my acquired very early 8V20 Seiko and they were fairly adamant they were not going to take it on :( Got to say am a bit cheesed off with Seiko UK, now because Pulsar is scrapped for Europe I can't even ask questions about my Pulsar's as just get emails back saying "We cannot advise or help you with your Pulsar watch..." which is quite annoying seeing I have about 75 Seiko group watches most of them Pulsar 😱 Was yesterday on the point of buying the recent Lorus automatic and thought to meself why, they don't care about their previous customers, really bad attitude imho.

I didn't do anything special, just found the link to Seiko's service centre and gave them a call. They said I could send it in and they'd take a look, so that's what I did. I was expecting them to say it was unrepairable due to lack of parts, but no, they just fixed it and sent it back.

@@thecarguychannel Sure, this is where I went: www.seikowatches.com/uk-en/contact/servicecenter You can call first and talk to them, they were very helpful. There must be equivalent service centres in other countries too, I assume.

Would you like me to post my watch to you. I have the same watch and changed the battery and it is not working at all. It has some sentimental value to me. But £170 is too much for me in the current climate. Took my backing off and the battery leak is exact same as yours if not slightl worse. It would need to be cleaned on the battery side same as yours for the battery to make contact I think? I do not know how to clean the residue off and not to competent in taking it apart. Thank you 😊

Should have sent it back for Seiko to fix! Get plastic tweezers to avoid shorts and scratching... try avoid touching the dial and movement with bare fingers or wipe them down after. Another 30 years from now the acids in your finger oils may have destroyed the dial and permanently etched the movement. Clean parts should be handled by clean tweezers.

    What did Seiko charge you?
Sorry to beat you up on what I see as obvious no-no's. Very nice video.

It was about £170 for the repair and service. As I said in the video, that's probably more than the watch would be worth, if I was selling it, but I'm not. Thanks for the tips, I'm well aware that I'm not an expert watch repairer :-)

@@ChrisBLong Thanks!!! Costs sound comparable to the US... about $200. I'm no expert, just learning. I have many watches, but the dancing hands are my favorite movements.

Where is the repair part? You sent it away and you call it "repair" when you only remount the hands...?
