  • In this video we compare the 2024 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy Night Edition and the 2024 Mazda CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus. These two SUV's are two popular options in the midsize 3 row segment and offer good value for the dollar although there are some differences worth noting. The Palisade Calligraphy is arguably one of the best values in the segment with features not found on some other vehicles including the CX-90 all for the mid $50k price point. The CX-90 on the other hand is a semi-luxury option with Mazda trying to bring their brand upscale vs the competition. It has just about everything one would expect although there are a couple features not found on the Mazda that I would expect for the $60k price tag. Regardless both have some pros and cons depending on what your priorities are in this segment of SUV. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and which one you would pick for the money. Huge thanks to Mazda for sending out the CX-90 to review!

Great review! We're Palisade owners and love ours. However I was looking forward to Mazda's turbo inline 6 engine wrapped in a family 3-row SUV. While I think Mazda's styling, both inside and out, are superior it starts to lose its luster on the lack of second and third row space, and automatic folding features. Also, the hidden exhaust pipes are a huge miss. For an ICE vehicle exhaust pipes are an important feature...to me. I find it tacky when auto makers add cheesy, rounded-chrome-rectangle plastic to the rear bumper resembling exhaust pipe tips. It looks cheap and they're not fooling anybody. VW is a big offender of this. At least the CX-90 didn't go this route. They simply hid the exhaust pipes behind the bumper which it's better than what VW does.
One other feature I appreciate a lot about the Palisade is the 40/60 split on the third row. I don't think there are any other SUVs in this segment that offers this feature. I have never seen any review highlighting this on the Palisade. And to us it has been crucial because we have actually sat three people in the third row before. Two adults and one minor. Which it's possible because this 40/60 split includes 3 seatbelts while the 50/50 split only has two seatbelts as it is designed for only two passengers. Not only that, but there have been a couple of instances where we needed more trunk space while at the same time needing at least one more seat for a 5th passenger for a long trip. So folding down the 40% section of the third row allowed for more trunk space, and the 60% section left upright allowed for comfortable seating for that 5 passenger which always ends up being my wife (God bless her!)

I was in the market and had huge hopes for the CX90. My trade in was a Mazda 6 signature. However the space inside, especially the third row broke the deal for me. Also the huge bumpy differential tunnel in the second row. Mazda felt so cramped inside, which is weird because from the outside the suv looks big. Ended up with a 24 Palisade with beige interior. Amazing suv for the money, in fact I can’t believe it doesn’t cost around $70,000. Offers amazing tech and very luxurious. Very quiet, no wind or road noise. Engine is also very quiet and smooth even in the current -8 deg f weather in midwest.

Note: If you choose the Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy sans the night edition package the price difference now becomes almost $8,000.00. Is the CX-90 "Really" worth the price differential. Hmm?

Also keep in mind that cx90 prices are coming down at the dealers. $3,000 less than msrp especially for the turbo s premium plus trim. Nobody wants to pay $61,000 for a mainstream suv when the competition is cheaper and better overall.

@@CarsMadeSimplewell Mazda USA officially dropped the prices down more than $4000. Turbo S Premium Plus is little over $55,000 now. Go figure. It sucks for the existing owners. This suv was never meant to be sold for that high of a price. Fail from the marketing and sales department.

Why does the Palisade have back orders on their canceled trailer hitch paclage?

    • @CarsMadeSimple
      @CarsMadeSimple  7 месяцев назад +3

So Hyundai is still trying to catch up with supply of the wiring harness for recalled vehicles. I believe once they resolve the supply issues with the harness that hitches may become a port installed option again. The hitches themselves are readily available, just not the 7-pin wiring harness.

    • @18729026

Not true. Hitch issue fixed months ago. No supply issue. I easily got a hitch in early March for my 2024. Both 7 and 10-pin available. I had 10 installed but was given a 7-pin as well.

Comparing these two models without talking about the driving dynamics is “not fair” as it is the strength of the Mazda CX-90 compared to its competitors.
For those who care about it, the Mazda is a clear winner.

    • @CarsMadeSimple

I would agree that the Mazda's powertrain is superior for the additional power but the mild hybrid system was not very smooth. I would like to drive the standard turbo model without the 48v Mild Hybrid system to see if it would be my choice in the lineup.

Power folding isn't a plus it's a drawback. That feature causes a 1 second activity to take 20 seconds! How is that better?

    • @jasplat88

Agreed - he WAY over-emphasized that feature as a positive and many of us would prefer a manual or much faster option. Power folding is super slow.

For me, the Mazda CX-90 is the winner as I'm not looking for maximum space and I don't need an electric system to fold the second & third row seats (not old enough yet). To conclude, if I buy the Mazda CX-90, I would choose the base model, the 2024 MAZDA CX-90 MILD HYBRID INLINE 6 TURBO GS (Canada). 🙂
