Got a couple weeks before I hit the road to McDonough, your videos have been a great help, man! Me and many others really appreciate these
Glad to help Jack! Let me know if you need anything during training👍🏻🚂
When do you start?
Same here. Hoping to get a email with some e-learning links for practice test. Lol. Love the videos. Huge relief on my nerves today man. I've never been more nervous about anything. And I have 3 kids. Ha
When do you go Jack?
I start on the 19th…
Just received my medical exam email. 11/29/2023. I’m on Zoloft for PTSD during military service, and Linsopril for high blood pressure. Hope I pass.
Where did u drug test at? And was it urine. I have video interview
How did this work out for you. I have a lot of guys and girls that have served that have had the same question. Have you heard anything?
Urinalysis only so far. They can return to hair follicle at anytime but currently its just a piss test.
Is bas eyesight and hearing ok?
Both are fine as long as you have corrective lenses or hearing aids. The only killer is colorblindness. That is 100% a no go👍🏻🚂
Did they really stop the hair test? Im trying to get on in 3 months i used to smoke weed. Thats all
@kabren did u get the job?
If I have to go to a local center for the medical because I had to set up an appointment does that mean I will have to take a hair test it would it still be urine
Hey question did they bring back the hair test? Thanks
I have a serious question, I’m 26 I have to see a pain management doc due to having sciatica and some other back issues. I passed everything they didn’t say much of why I was disqualified can I reapply or will they tell me why I didn’t get the job? Im just trying to get some answers from someone, I already work a harder job then this so I’m just a little upset with the way they didn’t give me a chance. If anyone can respond to this that would be great, I have glasses and some pre-existing conditions and just not sure why they didn’t hire me. Maybe it’s because I’m prescribed opioids for pain issues but that’s just for maitenece of the problems.
I asked this question on another video, but lo and behold the answer is here! Thanks for this video, as always man. I had my PE on the 17th, so I am just playing the waiting game as well. I was told I passed everything, and everything looked good, hope NS sees is the same way ha! I'll keep checking the portal, thanks!
Im sure you'll be just fine. Onboarding is just painfully slow sometimes. Best of luck!
Piss test or hair follicle?
So is the bmi different for a different position? I’m going for a mechanical laborer witch is a non safety sensitive position I’m pretty sure
I have a bulging disc and I got an email wanting my doc to explain it. I do have medical notes saying it’s bothered me in the past, and I got rear ended in December 2022 which didn’t help, but it’s not a big deal lately. I’ve always had physical jobs, am I screwed?
Anybody know if they are still doing a urine test for NS or are they back to a hair test? I’m still in the process of my background check so I’m sure my physical and drug test will be sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Just urine as of last week.
Do your physical and background check comes before drug test ?
If my bmi is over 40 should I give up all hope of the job
Does the BMI pertains to Csx ?
Question, I have a start date but haven’t complete any of the hiring process steps. Only thing I did was my interview and background check. They said may 11 they will give me list of things I need to bring. I start may 22. When will I take my medical exam?
Most likely take it down there
Have you heard if they are staying with the urinalysis or going back to hair follicle I have an interview next Friday for ns
Did u find out? Hair follicle or not
My medical exam is going to be scheduled in the next two weeks, to confirm you said that they do not do height/weight? They go straight to the calipers? Is the exam looking for scars etc like they do at MEPS for the military or fully clothed?
What will disqualify me on my driving record, I got the job offer and I’m worried I do have some speeding tickets but that’s about all and I have not had any in the pass two years! I just really want this job! I’m beyond nervous.
They are mainly looking at DUI's but if you've had a stack of speeding tickets in a row that may flag it as "Company Discretion"
@@KurtisCharlton they are from 2020, on my background check is says “eligible”
Don’t know if you’ll see this but as of now what are the requirements still hair follicle, urination? Do they do physical before you go to do training sorry just got questions tried messaging you on Facebook about these things
Are you allowed to wear corrective lenses as long as your vision is 20/40?
Are they still doing the urine test or did they go back to hair follicle?
If you cannot pass the plates for color blindness do they give a backup like Farnesworth hue test to verify your not color blind just can't see the numbers they put in the Ishihara plates?
They usually do not but it depends on whether you test on site in GA or locally. Locally you have a better chance of alternatives but they don’t technically “have” to offer it. The Ishihara is their standard test 👍🏻🚂
Any CSX waiting on to hear back after medical exam results? Wondering how fast this will happen.
usually within 30 days
Has anyone ever been too small?
I have been offered a job with them for Augusta without an interview, then I was sent to do my physical, I showed the nurse what my eye doctors said about my vision which with glasses read 20/40 left 20/20 with right. The nurse put my left eye at 20/70 until I had to get updated lenses which now I have them. Now I am awaiting to see if my sleep apnea passes on tuesday, but the Augusta application has been closed so now I've put in for Linwood, NC which is only an hour away from here, and also on tuesday I have to do an interview with them. Hopefully Mr. Harris can pull me thru for his section of Linwood and Greensboro.
Best of luck!
How did it go Tony? Hope you got in bud
I got my online interview coming up
Took forever for me to get through the medical part due to previous surgeries! I was just told a few days ago that I’m now awaiting a start date, can’t wait to start working.
Congrats Tyler👍🏻🚂
congrats
@@KurtisCharlton for csx can you give me some answers on the prerecorded interview I'm trying to get pass that
Hey I plan on joining does anyone know if they started hair testing again I stopped smoking but I know weed stays in your hair longer than urine
Does anyone know if they do singular eye exam? For example text just your left eye and then test just your right eye and if so then what are they texting for?
I did my medical exam for NS for in May, Once I got to the training center on my final day of class they told me that they couldn't not find my medical exam paperwork, I went back that Monday at the training center to redo my medical exam and have to wait for another two weeks to start my OJT smh it a pain in the butt
What color test do they do at the training center?
Do you kno if they're back doing the hair follicle test?
I know CSX is. I believe NS is still just urinalysis👍🏻🚂
I had my physical about 3-4 weeks ago. Have an contingent job offer. Haven’t heard anything from them since. Wondering when they will contact me to move forward for start date and training.
Just keep an eye on your application status in the system it will change to awaiting start date or application closed when your results come back.
Just checked. Awaiting start date 8/03/2022
@@cissonc Congrats!
@@cissonc congrats dude! I am in the same boat, the waiting game. Just did my PE on 8/17 though.
@@brenphoto8213 at least it will be nicer weather and not as hot in Georgia.
How long after your physical do you get your start date?
Everyone is different and it depends on how busy your terminal is and what their business needs are. Some guys get a start date within two weeks, others have waited 7 months. I interviewed in August, physical in Sept, didn’t get a start date until December for a January Start Date👍🏻🚂
@@KurtisCharlton I got interviewed in June, exam in July, and I still don’t have a start date. My application still say pending, does this mean more than likely I got the job?
Can I bring my family with at the hotel?
Are they still doing just the urinalysis or are they back to hair follicle
As far as I know it’s still just urine👍🏻🚂
@@KurtisCharlton so I have an interview on December 2nd how long after that is the drug test and have you heard if it is still urine or if they are back to hair
I just finished my medical exam yesterday. How soon after that will you get your start date? And can you pick a date?
did you get your start date yet? my boyfriend did his medical exam 2 weeks ago and we are wondering how long it has been taking people to start after that
Going to NS 1/23/2023
Hey Brother my name is Mike R. I am going thru the onboarding process now for the Conductor position. Already filled out my background info, just waiting for my medical email so I can do my pre employment. So excited! Thank You for the info bud 💯
Happy Thanksgiving to you and the Fam🍁🦃🍽🙏🏽
Just saw this. Hope you had a great holiday as well! Best of luck in training!
Which location were you hired out of? I’m waiting for my medical exam to be scheduled as well. I’ll be working out of Toledo. I’m sure they won’t schedule our training until after the Xmas holiday but I’m not exactly sure.
@@_Matthew_D Hey Maya My name is Mike and I live in Knoxville, TN. but was hired to work out of the Birmingham, AL. Yard.. yeah I’m still waiting to do my Med Exam and Pre Employment … Some of the other guys I’ve talked to already have their Start Dates for Training and that Date is January 16th 2023. From what I understand, there will be another class soon after that one scheduled for early - mid February..
@@EastCoast.80 hey Mike my name is Matt. My pre employment check is already done, just waiting for them to schedule my medical exam. I wonder if I’ll be put into that Jan 16 class if there’s room. I’m hoping to start sooner than later, getting pretty anxious these last few weeks just waiting on emails.
@@EastCoast.80 Hey Mike, I just received my exam date for next week. Hopefully you get yours soon as well.
Hey how long after you come back from Georgia do you go to your home facility to continue training ?
Yes but you get the weekend off first
Hello dear can you give me some tips to pass a train conductor interview
What’s your height and weight?
Was acepteded to NS, background check is complete, waiting on med exam. How long is typical wait? Its been a month.
I applied in August, Interviewed in Sept, Did all of my back ground and med exams the following month and I didn't get a start date until the end of December for January. Some guys have waited 8 months, others have gotten expedited start dates two weeks after starting the process and did their medical onsite.
Question: If you're a bigger person but muscular, can the doctor differentiate your body to fat ration while using whatever tools they use? Because I'm 6ft tall and im 320 but muscular...can they tell the difference??
Yes. They will use body calipers during your physical 👍🏻🚂
@The Extra Board thank you brother! I appreciate the response
Did they use the calipers for your exam?
@@MrEricturney no, they jus took your weight and height and put it in this BMI calculator
@@bigfern62 Thank you sir! I appreciate the response!
Do you know the Signal group used for Cincinnati?
Conrail
@@KurtisCharlton thanks buddy
Do you know the signal group used for Fort Wayne Indiana?
Hello, can you please tell me who hits the horn, the engineer or the conductor?
Engineer
When do they do the physical? Before McDonough or after?
Before
@@KurtisCharlton thanks for the reply🤟🏾
Question do have to drive the train like a vehicle or is it automatic?
:) no steering wheel and the throttle and brakes are applied by hand. Take a look at some train simulators online. They are actually pretty accurate
@@KurtisCharlton thank you one more question. I have been seeing practice test online for train conductor. Is those questions online legitimate and also could I start studying the signals before training start
I was offered a job and passed my background check,i then took a medical questioner that was “hq only” that was sent to NS 4 days ago and ive yet to hear back,im very healthy and have no reason to fail a medical,is it common to wait this long?has this happened to anyone else?
Im still awaiting to take the actual exam
YES. unfortunately incredibly normal. Onboarding is PAINFULLY slow some times. Ive had people get sent to school 2 weeks after interviewing and I've had people wait 7 months to get a start date. Its all based on business need at the terminal you applied for, the availability of instructors, and how many people are in the next class.
Hey bud got another question this one always stumps me in an interview. after I speak to these people a question is asked Do I have anything for them? What is the answer they are looking for? I have an interview this morning at 11:20. Thanks.
I’m probably a little late but I always ask about health insurance and other benefits and what they are looking for in an ideal candidate. Best of luck. I’m sure you’ll do great👍🏻🚂
What if you are on prescriptions that would come up on a drug test? Currently trying to get some paperwork from prescribing Dr
As long as you have script you are good, unless it is a schedule 1 drug
@@KurtisCharlton nope no schedule one. The medical questions they ask on the pre paperwork is pretty in depth. I keep it as honest as possible and try not to leave anything out. I’m striving to get this start date
Damn I can pass everything expect the bmi
I have a start date with Norfolk Southern Sept. 5th in McDonough, Georgia but I'm hearing rumors about a strike so Idk bro...
Strikes won’t affect you. You’ll be training during the time frames they are suggesting and strikes are a good thing. That means the union is pushing for better wages and better working conditions. For the next 13 weeks you are going to be a fly on the wall learning all you can. In order to do well in this industry you need to be able to stay safe make your money and go home everyday. If you spend your time scrolling negativity online or participating in conversations about policy, that may or may never happen, you’ll drown out here. For all the bitching these old heads do nobody ever seems to think about leaving 😂 you’ll be alright man. It’s a great time to get the onboarding out of the way👍🏻🚂 Best of luck and congrats on your offer!
Thanks bro,, I'll keep you tuned in & good luck on your journey as well my brother...
What if you have a heart murmur.
How long is the process start to finish?
Depends on the needs of your location but the average start to finish is 13 weeks. 3 at the training center and the rest on your home terminal.
Hello, I am in the pre-employment process. My background and physical is finished and it says that my pre-employment clearance is pending. It's been several weeks now and I have read that it takes weeks to months to hear. Is this true? Thank you for posting great content!
Not recently but it has happened. That status will transfer to “awaiting start date” as soon as you background check clears and you medical results return. The longest part of preemployment is awaiting the start date. Sometimes it can be painfully slow depending on class sizes, terminal needs and the availability of instructors 👍🏻🚂
@@KurtisCharlton I appreciate the feedback! I will continue to check my Profile. Keep up the great work on the channel!
@@KurtisCharlton I just received my start date which is September 26th. I will be on the Louisville Division.
I’ve been waiting a little over a week or so now for my results as well mine is for csx hopefully it’s not much longer
@@rg8571 medical results are sporadic. I’ve seen people wait two weeks and others don’t get start dates for months. Just depends on the needs of the terminal you applied to, the availability of instructors, and how many spot are left in the next training class. This part of the process unfortunately can be painfully slow. 👍🏻🚂
How long about did it take to hear back from Norfolk after doing medical exam?
It varies. Some people hear back the same week, others in a month.
I must be the month
Did yours say hq only? If so what does this mean
Did what say headquarters only?
Your questioner for the medical exam
Hey man I start ground school 9/5. Is there a way to get those links sent to me too? I have no social media
For sure. I just need an email address. The only reason I send folks to fb is to use messenger so you don't have to share your email publicly.
@@KurtisCharlton I don't think it will let me post my email
what happens if you fail the color blind test
You’re application will be closed. Colorblindness is the only vision disqualifier, Unfortunately👍🏻🚂
Very simple tests. Just took my BMI, hearing, eye and drug test. Drug test is urinalysis. They didn’t use bmi calipers for my class just simple measurements
Do they still do hair tests or just urine?
2:56 when you take urine test do you go in bathroom alone? Or do they look at you…
Have you heard if they are staying with the urinalysis or going back to hair follicle I have an interview next Friday for ns
Did u take the test in Georgia. I start may 22 but they didn’t say nothing e-mail nothing. I haven’t took my medical exam.
@@lourainey I have my medical next week at 9am just hoping I have 20/40 vision in both my eyes
My last BP was like 145/90. Im not on medichine or been diagnosed with high BP. Is that going to matter?
Shouldn't as long as you are medicated for it. Think of it like needing glasses or a hearing aid.
Just took my physical today. My BP was 142/90. I was really surprised. I have never had high blood pressure in the past. I hope this didn’t mess up my chances of getting the position.
@@jesseferg tell me how it goes
@@jesseferghey can you tell me how it went? Mine was high as well and it has never been!
@@bianca07clark I guess it wasn’t a issue. My status for employment changed to “awaiting start date”. But that was back in September, 4 months ago and I haven’t heard from them since. It’s crazy how long they leave you hanging with no communication.
What’s the most a conductor can make a yr
There were a few conductors at tax time this year turning in stubs for 120-145. That takes a bit of time though. Most first year folks will clear 75K if you stay marked up. Engineers make a good bit more. You app to be a conductor is actually an application to be an engineer. knock out these first few years and get to engine school asap. Best of luck!
Yea I’m just waiting for hr to call I’m ready to go
So are they calling pretty quick lately
So I received my start date of 11/28, but have not been sent for medical. Have you heard of anybody starting and not doing the medical first? Is it possible they will have me do the medical down in GA?

Wow October 31st? I’m scheduling my medical exam now. Wonder if that’d be my start day or further back
@@ImNHTV depends on if you have any preexisting medical conditions that NS will need more information about. You could be starting the same day as me if you are cleared. Keep in touch and let me know.
@John- Did my medical about a week ago. Got an email last night that thanked me for uploading documents to NS health. Do you remember getting that email and if so, how long did it take you to get a start date?
@@dowork3343 yes I received that same email. It will be a few weeks and you should get another email that lets you know you have been cleared to hire. In my situation I received another email stating that it would be October November or December before I would get a hire date. Depending on your hire location you may get a hire/start date after the email saying you are cleared to hire.
Thanks for that information! I’m hired for Toledo. I guess I can stop repeatedly refreshing the portal for a few days. Thanks again!
Hi I loved your videos. You explained the things very concisely and in effective manner. I would like to know from you that, International candidate can apply for train dispatcher/Conductor job? I am from India working as Station Master Cum Yard master same as train dispatcher.
If yes then please provide your precious guidance how can I be in international career.
Thanks
All conductor positions will have a section of the application dedicated to international candidates. Visit the careers page of any class one railroad and apply.
National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has filed 129 labor condition applications for H1B visa and 14 labor certifications for green card from fiscal year 2019 to 2021. Bnsf Railway Company has filed 10 labor condition applications for H1B visa and 10 labor certifications for green card from fiscal year 2019 to 2021. Bnsf Railway Company was ranked 10027 among all visa sponsors. So as you can see it does happen but it is difficult to get approval.

I’m fucking pissed!
Im mad as hell too I dont understand that either man I play football and yes I'm 300 and actually in good shape I dont see how they just say you're unfit from some online calculator they didnt even do a BMI test when I went for my physical I think they should put you through some sort of hands on test or some exercises to actually see if you can perform
